The Effect of Acrylate on the Properties and Machinability of Alumina Ceramics

AB  - Effect of methyl methacrylate (MMA) as a binder and heating treatment were investigated to improve green alumina compacts machinability. Properties of green compacts and their corresponding sintered samples prepared with and without MMA were compared. Investigation of green and sintered properties was performed on samples compacted at applied pressures up to 150 MPa. After pressing, samples with MMA were thermally treated at 115oC. The intention was to enhance the polymerization of MMA at a temperature a little higher than the glass transition temperature (Tg = 103°C) of poly (methyl methacrylate). Green compacts with MMA had higher green density values than those without MMA. Sintered samples with MMA had lower values of sintered density and higher values of total porosity; after sintering, relative linear shrinkage was around 15 % for the whole range of applied pressures. The possibility of easily machining the green compacts with MMA produces great possibilities for application in many fields.
AB  - Испитиван je утицај метил метакрилата (ММА) као везива као и утицај термичког третманана машинску обрадивост испресака од алумине. Упоређена су својства како код испресака од алумине припремљених са и без ММА тако и код њима одговарајућих синтерованих узорака. Испитивање особина испресака и синтерованих узоракаизведено је на узорцима који су испресовани на притисцима до 150 МРа. Након пресовања, узорци са ММА су термички третирани на 115о С са намером да ММА полимеризује на нешто вишој температури од температуре стакластог прелаза (Тg = 103°C) поли(метил метакрилата. Испресци са ММА имали су веће густине од испресака без ММА. Синтеровани узорци припремљени са ММА имали су ниже синтероване густине и већу укупну порозност, aнакон синтеровања, релативно линеарно скупљање је било око 15 % за цео опсег примењених притисака пресовања. Пробе машинске обрадљивости показале су да машинска обрада испресака са ММА има велике могућности за комерцијалну примену.

AB  - U radu je dat pregled evropske i naše regulative u oblasti
ambalaže i ambalažnog otpada kao i posebnih zahteva za ispitivanjem
četiri teška metala i opasnih supstanci u ambalaži. Postupak
ocenjivanja usaglašenosti ambalaže sa bitnim zahtevima Direktive EU
94/62/ES nalaže uvođenje odgovarajućih hemijskih analiza i postupaka
procene sadržaja opasnih supstanci na osnovu sigurnosnih lista.
Korišćenjem postojeće opreme moguće je da se u Institutu Vinča obezbede
svi preduslovi za sprovođenje kompletnog postupka ocenjivanja
usaglašenosti u oblasti ambalaže i ambalažnog otpada.
AB  - Overview of EU and our legislative in the area of packaging and
packaging waste is presented and some aspects of analysis of four heavy metals
and dangerous substances as well. Conformity assessment procedure for
packaging, according to EU Directive 94/62/EC, requires the introduction of
chemical analysis and methods for calculation of quantity of dangerous substances
on the basis of safety data sheets for components and materials used. Existing
equipment in the VINCA Institute is the good basis for providing complete
conformity assessment procedure in the area of packaging and packaging waste in
VINCA Institute.

AB  - The influence of the deposition parameters on the porosity of thin alumina films electrophoretically deposited on steel from aqueous suspensions was investigated. The effects of the applied voltage, deposition time, suspension temperature and the solid content of the aqueous suspension on the porosity of the obtained alumina films have been determined using optical microscopy coupled with image analysis. It was shown that the lowest film porosity was obtained from a suspension containing 20 wt.% alumina powder at the lowest applied voltage (30 V), for a longer deposition time (10 min) using a suspension temperature of 30 ºC. This behavior can be explained by the smaller amount of hydrogen evolved on the cathode during the electrophoretic deposition process.
AB  - Ispitivan je uticaj parametara taloženja, i to napona taloženja, vremena talo ženja, temperature suspenzije i koncentracije čvrste faze u suspenziji, na poroznost kataforetski taloženih tankih filmova iz vodene suspenzije praha aluminijum-oksida na čeliku.Poroznost dobijenih filmova određivana je primenom metode optičke mikroskopije uz analizu slike. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata pokazano je da je najmanja poroznost prevlake aluminijum-oksida na čeliku dobijena pri taloženju iz vodene suspenzije koncentracije 20 mas%, pri naponu taloženja 30 V, za vreme taloženja 10 minuta i pri temperaturi suspenzije 30 °C.Ovakvo ponašanje moguće je objasniti manjom količinom izdvojenog vodonika na katodi tokom elektroforetskog taloženja.

Electrophoretic deposition of thin alumina films from water suspension

AB  - Alumina water suspensions have been prepared for thin alumina film deposition on steel. The type and quantity of deflocculant have been determined using zeta potential and viscosimetric measurements. The deposition was performed under the constant deposition voltage between 30 and 250 V. The morphology of electrodeposited alumina films was investigated using the optical microscopy coupled with image analysis, which enables the determination of pore number, percentage of film surface covered by pores and mean pore diameter, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was shown that alumina films of the highest thickness and the lowest porosity can be formed at lower applied voltage and for longer deposition time. The minimum of alumina films porosity, obtained at the lowest deposition voltage of 30 V, can be explained by smaller amount of evolved hydrogen on the cathode during electrodeposition process.
