AB - Paper presents a thermodynamic analysis of chemical reactions occurring during chlorination with and without additives for both nickel oxides and nickel ferrites, which are component parts of nickel ore. The experimental research investigated the influence of temperature in the range from 600 up to 1000 °C and time (up to 3 h) on the chlorination degree of nickel ores with and without additives. It was found that the introduction of additives such as C, S, BaS and NaCl intensified the chlorination of nickel ore. The results can be applied and may help determine the optimal conditions for the chlorination of low-grade ferrous nickel ores.

AB - The paper shows: (a) the results of pyrite oxidation by gaseous oxygen in water suspension at high temperatures in an autoclave and (b) the results of simultaneous leaching of Mn4+ from pyrolusite ore by H2SO4 and FeSO4, the products of pyrite oxidation. It was shown that both processes occurred successfully with almost complete pyrite oxidation and a high degree of leaching of manganese. Both processes occur according to the laws of first-order reactions compared to the quantities of FeS 2 and MnO2 in suspension, with activation energies of 65±0.8 kJ/mol and 97±0.5 kJ/mol, respectively.

AB - Finely grained samples of copper(I) sulphide were leached by CaCl2·2H2O solution with added HCl and the introduction of gaseous oxygen. The occurrence probability of chemical reactions was analyzed based on literature and products, which were formed during the process, and the overall leaching reaction was defined. The effect of temperature, concentration of CaCl2·2H2O, HCl and total chloride ions, stirring speed, phase ratio and time, on the leaching degree of copper was studied. The quantity of copper dissolved increases with the increase of the values of all the parameters. The role of chloride ions is to disrupt the passivating sulphur layer on the particle surface, by promoting the formation of crystalline sulphur rather than a crypto-crystalline or amorphous product. It was concluded that the leaching reaction is second order, with respect to the concentration of total chloride ions. Experimental results show that the leaching mechanism is very complex. By using appropriate mathematical kinetic models, it is found that the leaching rate is diffusion-controlled.
