AB - In this work, a series of iron-containing zeolitic materials has been tested as heterogeneous catalysts for decomposition of H2O2 and for oxidation of the cationic dye Methylene Blue with H2O2 in aqueous solutions. FeAPO and FeBEA zeolites, synthesized through hydrothermal crystallization of basic hydrogels, and FeY and FeZSM-5 zeolites, prepared by ion-exchange procedures, have been studied. The ion exchange with Fe(III) cations was performed from different salt solutions. Fe-exchange procedure carried out in Fe-citrate solution has been identified as an attractive option for the preparation of highly effective FeZSM-5 catalysts in wet oxidation processes. It has been shown that both tetrahedral, framework Fe, and octahedral, extra-framework Fe species incorporated into zeolite structure are catalytically active in wet oxidation reactions.

AB - Manganese-containing silicalite-1 (MnS-1) was synthesized hydrothermally in the presence of the structure-directing agent (template) tetraethylammonium hydroxide (TEAOH) for the first time. The highly crystalline MnS-1 crystallized from a gel with a molar composition of 2:1:1:50:25:935 Na2O:K2O:MnO:SiO2:TEAOH:H2O at 175 degreesC after 3 days. The product was thermally stable up to 700 degreesC in air. The template-free MnS-1 was prepared by calcination at 550 degreesC in an oxygen flow. The incorporation of manganese into the framework sites of silicalite-1 was suggested by elemental, thermogravimetric, and cation exchange analyses. The X-ray absorption spectroscopic methods XANES and EXAFS confirmed the incorporation of Mn3+ into a silicalite-1 framework. FT-IR spectroscopic studies of CO adsorption at 100 K on the MnS-1 revealed the Lewis acidity of the sample and the presence of both Mn3+ and Mn2+ cations in the structure.

AB - Hydrothermal synthesis of chabazite-like AlPO4 in a fluoride medium, using piperidine as the structure directing agent, is also successful in the preparation of transition-metal-modified AlPO products. The transition metal (Co, Mn, and Ni) has no influence on the triclinic deformation of the chabazite framework, formed by an interaction of fluoride ions with the AlPO framework. Upon calcination, successive destruction of piperidine and fluoride bridges occurs. The calcined chabazite-like products exhibit a particular sensitivity for humidity resulting in a new triclinic deformation of the chabazite framework The deformation is completely reversible and can be removed by dehydration. The transition-metal incorporation exerts an influence on the dehydration process.
