AB - A project called 'Cleaner Production' is conducted in the organization of the Cleaner Production Centre of Serbia at the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, University of Belgrade and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The goal of the project is to perceive critical places in a company and define measures which would achieve significant financial savings and, at the same time, protect and improve the condition of the environment with minimal investment, by saving resources and energy. Complete results of the project demonstrate that the means invested are, on average, returned within a year, whereas savings achieved reduce the emission of CO2 by the total of 4,000 t/year, the amount of solid waste by 1,000 t/year and the amount of energy and water consumption in some companies will be reduced by as much as 10%. On the example of the 'Hipol' AD company, it will be demonstrated that there is a large number of cleaner production options precisely in the energy efficiency section and that very significant savings were achieved there. The plant is one of major consumers of heat and electric energy and the team paid most attention precisely to energetics, as the area with the highest saving potential. The present state is mostly affected by the inability to transfer from a liquid fossil fuel (fuel oil) to a gas fuel, considering that there is no natural gas distribution nearby. Out of suggested options, more than 60% refer to energy savings most of which were realized during the project. Effects of cleaner production options realization are especially visible through the reduction of specific consumption of energy sources and water - since 2008 savings have accumulated to over (sic) 120,000.

AB - The approach proposed in this paper emphasizes the methodology of examining the possibility of increasing energy efficiency in the case of industry, such as a petrochemical complex, which is at the same time marked as the major pollutant of the environment. The improved cleaner production methodology was used based on the conditions and needs of the major Serbian petrochemical company. This paper presents results obtained by steam system optimization and modifications. The implemented measures lead to a decrease in total energy consumption by 6% and a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions by 9 t CO(2)e.

AB - The aim of this paper was to present the energy flows in the life cycle of biogas utilization systems (cogeneration and transportation), as well as their mutual relations, starting from providing the feedstock for digestion through to end-of-life management of biogas system as fertilizer on agricultural land. This study was carried out through the energy analysis of two scenarios (biogas in cogeneration and biogas in transportation) using performance of Mirotin biogas plant (1 MW) in Serbia. Results obtained in this study have shown that the analyzed scenario (biogas in cogeneration and biogas in transportation) have positive energy balances (52,114 and 53,585 GJ) and these scenarios are sustainable from energetic point of view.

AB - Electricity generation using carbon-based fuels is responsible for a large fraction of carbon dioxide emissions worldwide. In Serbia, 70% of the electricity is produced from coal-fired power plants. The aim of this investigation was to identify the retrofitting opportunities to reduce the carbon intensity of power generation. Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production assessment was performed in a coal thermal power plant of the public company "Thermal Power Plants Nikola Tesla", which operates within the Electric Power Industry of Serbia. Assessment of the thermal power plant operation was supported by experimentally measured data (fresh water pressures and temperatures, steam temperatures and pressures, condensing pressure, water flowrate, make-up water flowrate, steam flowrate, coal composition, emissions, etc), emission factor determinations and by using data obtained during unit balancing and simulation of the system's performance. The data collected and analyzed during power plant operation were used for the development of a new general approach with comprehensive analysis of the system, using the following plant eco-efficiency indicators: energy consumption, climate change, acidification, and waste generation. Indicators were used to present decoupling after implementation of the described measures. The analysis of two units showed that the nominal power could be increased by 60 MWe, with an increase of the unit gross efficiency of 0.4%, and a reduction of coal, water and electricity consumption. The implementation of RECP measures in this study enabled analysis of the overall performance of the system as evidenced by the eco-efficiency indicators: energy consumption (decreased by 3%), CO2 emission (decreased by 3%), and SO2 emission (decreased by 39%). Consequently, it may be concluded that the proposed RECP approach, tested on thermal power plants, and presented as eco-efficiency indicators show that the described methodology may be successfully implemented in the energy sector and for the improvement in power plants.

AB - Livestock farming is a significant part of agricultural market in Serbia. However, a descending trend of livestock species has been recorded recently, despite its potential for meat export. Application of new technologies could improve competitiveness of livestock farming. In this paper, energy efficient energy supply technologies and potentials for their application in livestock farms have been analyzed. A methodology for pinpointing profitable energy supply options which also provides significant energy and CO2 savings has been proposed. A case study of a pig farm was used to perform an energy balance and allocation of energy supply costs. Potentials for application of energy supply technologies based on local resources have been estimated in the study. The effects of integration of proposed technologies were also estimated. The suggested methodology was used to analyze the feasibility of proposed energy supply options. Investment in a biogas cogeneration plant showed best profitability. An integrated option which envisages the application of heat pump for heat supply and photovoltaic solar collectors for production of electricity showed best energetic and environmental performance while managing to maintain financial feasibility.
Sagledani su i efekti primene integrisanih tehnoloških rešenja.Upotrebom predložene metodologije, izvršena je analiza finansijske izvodljivosti predloženih opcija snabdevanja energijom. Investicija u biogasno kogeneraciono postrojenje je pokazala najveće parametre profitabilnosti. Integrisano rešenje gde se za snabdevanje toplotom koristi toplotna pumpa, a za proizvodnju električne energije sistem fotonaponskih solarnih prijemnika, je pokazalo najbolje energetske i ekološke efekte i finansijsku rentabilnost.

AB - Biogas is a sustainable and renewable energy source that can provide green energy, a better environment and new jobs. The aim of this paper is to present potentials for biogas production in the Republic of Serbia from different sources (agricultural crops directly provided for energy, livestock residues, municipal solid waste, slaughterhouse waste and wastewater from milk processing industry) and to analyze the current situation in this sector in Serbia. The barriers that limit the wider production of biogas are considered. Results have shown that there is a great potential for biogas production in Serbia. The yearly potentials were calculated as follows: biogas production potential from agricultural crops directly cultivated for energy is 0.85 Mega tons of oil equivalent (Mtoe); potential from livestock residues amounts to 94.13 ktoe; potential from municipal solid waste (MSW) is 49.72 ktoe; potential from slaughterhouse waste is 9.94 ktoe and potential from milk processing industry is 3.21 ktoe. The analysis of incentives, barriers and status of biogas technologies presented in this paper represents a contribution for the further improvement and analysis of the biogas sector in the Republic of Serbia.
