spectroscopy, and multinuclear (

H, 13C and 119Sn) NMR spectroscopy. Crystal structure of ligand precursor,
2-(4-methyl-2-oxoquinolinyl-1-(2H)-yl)acetic acid (HL2), has been determined by X-ray diffraction studies.
Asymmetric bidentate coordination of the carboxylato ligands and skew trapezoidal structures are assumed for
the synthesized complexes. In vitro anticancer activity of the synthesized diphenyltin(IV) complexes was evaluated against three human: MCF-7 (breast adenocarcinoma), A375 (melanoma), HCT116 (colorectal carcinoma),
and three mouse tumor cell lines: 4T1 (breast carcinoma), B16 (melanoma), CT26 (colon carcinoma) using MTT
and CV assays. The IC50 values fall in the range from 0.1 to 3.7 μM. Flow cytometric analysis and fluorescent
microscopy suggest that complex 1 induces caspase-dependent apoptosis followed with strong blockade of cell
division in HCT116 cells. Since complex 1 showed ROS/RNS scavenging potential mentioned cytotoxicity was
not connected with oxidative stress.

AB  - Three newly synthesized triphenyltin(iv) compounds, Ph3SnL1 (L1− = 3-(4-methyl-2-oxoquinolin-1(2H)-yl)propanoato), Ph3SnL2 (L2− = 2-(4-methyl-2-oxoquinolin-1(2H)-yl)ethanoato), and Ph3SnL3 (L3− = 2-(4-hydroxy-2-oxoquinolin-1(2H)-yl)ethanoato), were characterized by elemental microanalysis, FT-IR spectroscopy and multinuclear (1H, 13C and 119Sn) NMR spectroscopy. A single X-ray diffraction study indicates that compounds Ph3SnL1 and Ph3SnL2 exhibit a 1D zig-zag chain polymeric structure, which in the case of Ph3SnL2 is additionally stabilized by π-interactions. In addition, the synthesized compounds were further examined using density functional theory and natural bond orbital analysis. The compounds have been evaluated for their in vitro anticancer activity against three human cell lines: MCF-7 (breast adenocarcinoma), A375 (melanoma), HCT116 (colorectal carcinoma), and three murine cell lines: 4T1 (breast carcinoma), B16 (melanoma), CT26 (colon carcinoma) using MTT and CV assays. The IC50 values fall in the nanomolar range, indicating that these compounds possess better anticancer activity than cisplatin. The study of the effect of the newly developed drug Ph3SnL1 showed its plasticity in achieving an antitumor effect in vitro, which depends on the specificity of the phenotype and the redox status of the malignant cell line and ranges from the initiation of apoptotic cell death to the induction of differentiation to a more mature cell form. In the syngeneic model of murine melanoma, Ph3SnL1 showed the potential to reduce the tumor volume similar to cisplatin, but in a well-tolerated form and with low systemic toxicity, representing a significant advantage over the conventional drug.

The impact of sodium periodate oxidation and alginate coating on the capillarity of jute fabric

AB  - This study explores the impact of sodium periodate oxidation time (30min, 60min, or 120min) and alginate coating on the capillarity of jute fabrics. Raw jute fabric exhibits a rapid increase in capillary rise height (h) over time, reaching 72mm at 1200s. Fabrics oxidized for 30, 60, and 120min show significantly lower h values of 19, 18, and 28mm at 1200s, respectively, which can be ascribed to the oxidation process itself. Precisely, oxidation-induced conversion of hydroxyl
groups of cellulose (the main constituent of jute fiber) to aldehyde groups contributed to the fabric reduced affinity for water, hence negatively affecting its capillarity. Approximately 47% and 55% lower h values of fabrics oxidized for 30 and 60min compared to that oxidized for 120min can be explained by their lower weight loss after oxidation as well as less pronounced liberation of elementary fibers. Oxidized fabrics characterized by low capillarity can be used for the manufacturing of packaging materials, outdoor gear, and protective covers for crops. To expand jute fabric applications in biocarpet engineering, that is, to obtain polysaccharide-based supports, raw and oxidized jute fabrics were treated with a 1% sodium alginate solution. At 1200s, oxidized fabrics coated with alginate exhibited 4.3–5.8 times higher h values compared to solely oxidized counterparts. The diffusion coefficients of oxidized fabrics coated with alginate increase up to 35% with prolonged oxidation, emphasizing the oxidation impact on alginate binding.

AB  - This study presents an innovative approach for the reuse and recycling of waste material, brewer’s spent grain (BSG) for
creating a novel green biocatalyst. The same BSG was utilized in several consecutive steps: initially, it served as a substrate
for the cultivation and production of laccase by a novel isolated fungal strain, Coriolopsis trogii 2SMKN, then, it was reused
as a carrier for laccase immobilization, aiding in the process of azo dye decolorization and fnally, reused as recycled BSG
for the second successful laccase immobilization for six guaiacol oxidation, contributing to a zero-waste strategy. The novel
fungal strain produced laccase with a maximum activity of 171.4 U/g after 6 days of solid-state fermentation using BSG
as a substrate. The obtained laccase exhibited excellent performance in the decolorization of azo dyes, both as a free and
immobilized, at high temperatures, without addition of harmful mediators, achieving maximum decolorization efciencies
of 99.0%, 71.2%, and 61.0% for Orange G (OG), Congo Red, and Eriochrome Black T (EBT), respectively. The immobilized

creating a novel green biocatalyst. The same BSG was utilized in several consecutive steps: initially, it served as a substrate
for the cultivation and production of laccase by a novel isolated fungal strain, Coriolopsis trogii 2SMKN, then, it was reused
as a carrier for laccase immobilization, aiding in the process of azo dye decolorization and fnally, reused as recycled BSG
for the second successful laccase immobilization for six guaiacol oxidation, contributing to a zero-waste strategy. The novel
fungal strain produced laccase with a maximum activity of 171.4 U/g after 6 days of solid-state fermentation using BSG
as a substrate. The obtained laccase exhibited excellent performance in the decolorization of azo dyes, both as a free and
immobilized, at high temperatures, without addition of harmful mediators, achieving maximum decolorization efciencies
of 99.0%, 71.2%, and 61.0% for Orange G (OG), Congo Red, and Eriochrome Black T (EBT), respectively. The immobilized

AB  - This study aimed to evaluate the physical (particle size and ζ-potential) and techno-functional properties (emulsifying and foaming) of goat milk powders enriched with grape pomace seed extract (TME), as promising food ingredients in the formulation of functional food. Attenuated Total Reflectance Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR-FTIR) and Raman spectroscopies, along with advanced chemometric tools were employed as well as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) for analyzing TME powders. All powders exhibited a unimodal particle size distribution and ζ-potential values more negative than −36 mV. ATR-FTIR and Raman spectroscopies combined with principal component analysis (PCA) demonstrated distinct separation among skimmed goat milk (M), thermally treated skimmed goat milk (TM), and TME powders in different spectral regions (amide I, II, III, and fingerprint region). This separation resulted from the applied thermal treatment, the presence of phenolic compounds and their complexes with goat milk proteins, and the formation of Maillard reaction products. SEM analysis confirmed the different morphology and shapes of M, TM and TME powders. The 0.1% solutions of M, TM and TME exhibited good emulsifying properties (emulsion activity index and emulsion stability index) but showed poor foaming properties, except for the M sample. Solution concentrations higher than 0.1% for all samples (0.5% and 1.0%) displayed poor techno-functional properties. In summary, a schematic representation of the arrangement of casein micelles in 0.1% M, TM and TME samples, on oil/water and air/water surfaces was provided. The production of TME powders represents an innovative strategy for waste recovery in the production of functional food ingredients with good emulsifying properties.

New copper (II) complexes derived from azo pyridone dyes: Structure characterization, thermal properties, and molecular docking studies

AB  - Two azo dye ligands, bearing different substituents (chlorine atom or methoxy group) in the para-position of the phenyl ring, were employed for the synthesis of two Cu(II) chelates. Full structural affirmation of complexes was assessed. X-ray diffraction measurements revealed that the coordination geometry for Cu atoms in both complexes is square-pyramidal with a ligand:metal ratio of 2:1 where dyes behave as monobasic bidentate ligands. Thermogravimetric analyses of the complexes and their starting dyes were performed to study their thermal stabilities and decomposition behavior confirming the thermal stability of both dyes and complexes. Antioxidative activity of the complexes has been assigned and compared with their parent ligands revealing that the presence of the electron–donor, methoxy group, in the phenyl ring, in both dye and complex, is responsible for the activity (IC50 values of 1.54 for the dye and 1.30 mM for the complex). It should be stated that the complexation of the methoxy-substituted dye leads to enhanced antioxidative activity concurrent to a standard antioxidant molecule of ascorbic acid, making this molecule a promising antioxidant agent. Docking study with vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 and Aurora kinase A proteins indicate that complexes exhibit higher binding affinities to proteins than the starting ligand dyes. The most promising structure exhibiting the best docking potential toward both proteins is the complex-bearing methoxy group. The presented results represent a promising start for further investigations of these compounds as potential therapeutic candidates for the treatment of various types of cancer.

abstract = "Two azo dye ligands, bearing different substituents (chlorine atom or methoxy group) in the para-position of the phenyl ring, were employed for the synthesis of two Cu(II) chelates. Full structural affirmation of complexes was assessed. X-ray diffraction measurements revealed that the coordination geometry for Cu atoms in both complexes is square-pyramidal with a ligand:metal ratio of 2:1 where dyes behave as monobasic bidentate ligands. Thermogravimetric analyses of the complexes and their starting dyes were performed to study their thermal stabilities and decomposition behavior confirming the thermal stability of both dyes and complexes. Antioxidative activity of the complexes has been assigned and compared with their parent ligands revealing that the presence of the electron–donor, methoxy group, in the phenyl ring, in both dye and complex, is responsible for the activity (IC50 values of 1.54 for the dye and 1.30 mM for the complex). It should be stated that the complexation of the methoxy-substituted dye leads to enhanced antioxidative activity concurrent to a standard antioxidant molecule of ascorbic acid, making this molecule a promising antioxidant agent. Docking study with vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 and Aurora kinase A proteins indicate that complexes exhibit higher binding affinities to proteins than the starting ligand dyes. The most promising structure exhibiting the best docking potential toward both proteins is the complex-bearing methoxy group. The presented results represent a promising start for further investigations of these compounds as potential therapeutic candidates for the treatment of various types of cancer.",

U reakciji deprotonovanog liganda i ekvimolarne količine Bu3SnCl dobijen je kompleks u obliku belog taloga. Sintetisana jedinjenja su okarakterisana standardnim analitičkim metodama. Ligand prekursor i odgovarajući kompleks tributilkalaja(IV) biće testirani na antitumorsku aktivnost prema raznim tumorskim ćelijskim linijama.
AB  - Synthesis of 2-(4-methyl-2-oxoquinolinyl)propanoic acid and its tributyltin(IV) complex has been performed. The ligand precursor has been obtained by the hydrolysis of methyl ester synthesized in the reaction between 4-hydroxy-2-quinolone and methyl 2- bromopropanoate. In the reaction of deprotonated ligand with equimolar amount of Bu3SnCl, the desired complex was precipitated as a white solid. The synthesized compounds have been characterized using standard analytical methods. The following research of ligand precursor and corresponding tributyltin(IV) complex will be focused on examining their antitumor activity against various cancer cell lines.

AB  - Azo boje ce poslednjih decenija primenjuju u različitim oblastima zbog izuzetnih svojstava. Njihova primena je u velikoj meri povezana sa fenomenom azo- hidrazon tautomerije. Naime, određivanje strukturnog oblika azo boja je značajno kako sa teorijskog stanovišta, tako i iz tehničke perspektive jer azo i hidrazon tautomeri poseduju različita fizička i hemijska svojstva.
U ovom radu, sintetisana je azo boja (5-(2-hlorfenilazo)-3-cijano-1-etil-6- hidrokci-4-metil-2-piridon) i okarakterisana elementalnom analizom, NMR i ATR-FTIR spektroskopijom i rendgenskom strukturnom analizom (slika). Solvatohromna svojstva boje ispitana su UV-Vis spektroskopijom u različitim rastvaračima kako bi se utvrdio dominantan strukturni oblik boje. Kristalna struktura je pokazala da boja kristališe u obliku hidrzon tautomera. Stabilizacija kristalnog pakovanja ostvarena je posredstvom različitih nekovalentnih interakcija kao što cu C–H···O/N, π-π, slobodan elektronski par-π i Cl···O.

AB  - Tremendous progress in the application of azo dyes in various fields has been achieved over the past few decades due to their intriguing properties. Their application is closely related to the phenomenon of azo-hydrazone tautomerism. Determination of the structural isomer of the azo dyes is not only important from the theoretical standpoint but also from the technical perspective since azo and hydrazone tautomers have distinctive physical and chemical properties.
In this work, azo pyridone dye (5-(2-chlorophenylazo)-3-cyano-1-ethyl-6-hydroxy-4- methyl-2-pyridone) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, NMR and ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray analysis (Figure). Solvatochromic properties of the dye have been investigated using UV-Vis spectroscopy in solvents of
different polarity in order to determine the dominant form in solvents.
The crystal structure of the dye shows that the dye crystallizes in the hydrazone form. The stabilization of the crystal packing is achieved by weak non- covalent interactions: C–H···O/N, π-π, lone pair-π and Cl O.

AB  - Reakcija azo kuplovanja omogućava laku sintezu niza molekula sa različitim svojstvima, što čini azo boje najrasprostranjenijim kolorantima. Pored primene azo boja u tekstilnoj industriji, primenjuju se i kod proizvoda naprednih tehnologija. Takođe, poznata su i po svojoj izvanrednoj biološkoj aktivnosti. Prisustvo jezgra piridina značajno poboljšava obojenje i postojanost boja. Supramolekulskim pristupom objašnjavaju se intra- i inter-molekulske interakcije, što omogućava bolje razumevanje interakcija između boja i tekstilnog vlakna [1].
U ovom radu dobijen je 5'-(2-(2,6-dihlorfenil)hidrazon)-4'-metil-2',6'-diokso- 1',2',5',6'-tetrahidro-[1,3'-bipiridin]-1-ium-hlorid (slika). Struktura jedinjenja potvrđena je NMR, ATR-FTIR, UV-Vis spektroskopijama i rendgenskom strukturnom analizom. Supramolekulsko umrežavanje postignuto je vodoničnim vezama, π-interakcijama, interakcijama atoma hlora vezanih za fenilno jezgro kao i interakcijama Cl–-jona koji se nalazi u kristalnoj rešetki. Ovim interakcijama objašnjena je i sposobnost vezivanja boje za tekstilno vlakno. Kristalografski podaci: C34H26Cl6N8O4,

c = 13,254(3) Å, α = 103,29(3), β = 105,71(3), γ = 106,11(3) °,  V = 887,5(4) Å3,  Z = 1, F(000) = 420,	ρx = 1,541 g cm–3,
µ(MoKα) = 0,537 mm–1. Utačnjavanje sa F2 (236 parametara) dalo je R1 = 0,0561 i S = 1,063 za 3247 primećenih refleksija sa I ≥ 2σ(I).
AB  - The reaction of azo coupling easily provides access to a wide range of different molecules with numerous material properties, therefore making azo dyes most widely used colorants. Their use is not limited only on textile dyeing as it expands on usage in advanced technology products. On the other hand, these compounds are known for their remarkable biologial activities. Inclusion of a pyridine ring into the molecular architecture leads to a better color properties. Supramolecular organization of azo dyes provides details on the molecular conformation, including intra- and inter-molecular interactions in the solid state. This information assists towards understanding of molecular properties as well as dye–fibre interactions [1].
In this work azo coupling reaction was employed to obtain 5'-(2-(2,6- dichlorophenyl)hydrazono)-4'-methyl-2',6'-dioxo-1',2',5',6'-tetrahydro-[1,3'-bipyridin]-1- ium chloride (Figure). The molecular structure was confirmed by 1H, 13C NMR, ATR- FTIR,	UV-Vis	spectroscopies	and	by single-crystal X-Ray diffraction. Various hydrogen bonds, π-stacking interactions and interactions involving chlorine substituents, as well as the chloride ion are responsible for supramolecular organization. Furthermore these interactions were used to explain dye- fiber afinities. Crystal data: C34H26Cl6N8O4, Mr = 823.33,

abstract = "Reakcija azo kuplovanja omogućava laku sintezu niza molekula sa različitim svojstvima, što čini azo boje najrasprostranjenijim kolorantima. Pored primene azo boja u tekstilnoj industriji, primenjuju se i kod proizvoda naprednih tehnologija. Takođe, poznata su i po svojoj izvanrednoj biološkoj aktivnosti. Prisustvo jezgra piridina značajno poboljšava obojenje i postojanost boja. Supramolekulskim pristupom objašnjavaju se intra- i inter-molekulske interakcije, što omogućava bolje razumevanje interakcija između boja i tekstilnog vlakna [1].
U ovom radu dobijen je 5'-(2-(2,6-dihlorfenil)hidrazon)-4'-metil-2',6'-diokso- 1',2',5',6'-tetrahidro-[1,3'-bipiridin]-1-ium-hlorid (slika). Struktura jedinjenja potvrđena je NMR, ATR-FTIR, UV-Vis spektroskopijama i rendgenskom strukturnom analizom. Supramolekulsko umrežavanje postignuto je vodoničnim vezama, π-interakcijama, interakcijama atoma hlora vezanih za fenilno jezgro kao i interakcijama Cl–-jona koji se nalazi u kristalnoj rešetki. Ovim interakcijama objašnjena je i sposobnost vezivanja boje za tekstilno vlakno. Kristalografski podaci: C34H26Cl6N8O4,
Mr = 823,33, P–1, a = 7,3784(15), b = 10,394(2),
c = 13,254(3) Å, α = 103,29(3), β = 105,71(3), γ = 106,11(3) °,  V = 887,5(4) Å3,  Z = 1, F(000) = 420,	ρx = 1,541 g cm–3,
µ(MoKα) = 0,537 mm–1. Utačnjavanje sa F2 (236 parametara) dalo je R1 = 0,0561 i S = 1,063 za 3247 primećenih refleksija sa I ≥ 2σ(I)., The reaction of azo coupling easily provides access to a wide range of different molecules with numerous material properties, therefore making azo dyes most widely used colorants. Their use is not limited only on textile dyeing as it expands on usage in advanced technology products. On the other hand, these compounds are known for their remarkable biologial activities. Inclusion of a pyridine ring into the molecular architecture leads to a better color properties. Supramolecular organization of azo dyes provides details on the molecular conformation, including intra- and inter-molecular interactions in the solid state. This information assists towards understanding of molecular properties as well as dye–fibre interactions [1].
In this work azo coupling reaction was employed to obtain 5'-(2-(2,6- dichlorophenyl)hydrazono)-4'-methyl-2',6'-dioxo-1',2',5',6'-tetrahydro-[1,3'-bipyridin]-1- ium chloride (Figure). The molecular structure was confirmed by 1H, 13C NMR, ATR- FTIR,	UV-Vis	spectroscopies	and	by single-crystal X-Ray diffraction. Various hydrogen bonds, π-stacking interactions and interactions involving chlorine substituents, as well as the chloride ion are responsible for supramolecular organization. Furthermore these interactions were used to explain dye- fiber afinities. Crystal data: C34H26Cl6N8O4, Mr = 823.33,

AB  - Pet novih jedinjenja na bazi stilbazolijum-soli, D-π-A strukture, sintetizovano je i detaljno
okarakterisano. Solvatohromizam sintetizovanih jedinjenja ispitan je korišćenjem četiri
rastvarača različite prirode pomoću UV-Vis spektroskopije. Takođe, ispitan je uticaj
različitih elektron-donorskih grupa na solvatohromna svojstva molekula. Zahvaljujući
prirodi kvaternarnog atoma azota, piridinijumov prsten u ovim jedinjenjima ispoljava jak
elektron-akceptorski karakter, promovišući intramolekulski transfer naelektrisanja.
Zahvaljujući ovom svojstvu, jedinjenja na bazi stilbazolijum-soli su primenu našla u
brojnim granama industrije i nauke.
AB  - Five novel dyes derived from stilbazolium salts, bearing D-π-A structure, were synthesized and completely characterized. The solvatochromism of the synthesized dyes was investigated using four different solvents by means of UV-Vis spectroscopy. Also, the influence of different electron-donor groups on the solvatochromic properties of dyes was examined. Due to the nature of the quaternary nitrogen atom, the pyridinium ring in these compounds exhibits a strong electron-accepting character, promoting intramolecular charge transfer. This property has enabled compounds derived from stilbazolium salts to find applications in numerous branches of industry and science.

AB  - Aryl azo pyridone dyes belong to a very important class of organic compounds. World annual
production of synthetic dyes is over 60 % based on the azo derivatives. They are mostly used as
coloring agents for textiles, paper, leather, rubber, polymer, and many other materials. With the
development of high technology, these structures also found their application as components of
lasers and nonlinear optical systems, LCD (liquid crystal display) screens, and thermal printers.
Lately, increasing attention has been directed to the biological activity of azo compounds. It has
been proven that they have anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, and antituberculosis activity, while certain derivatives are used for therapeutic purposes. Aryl azo dyes
are widely used due to their excellent physicochemical properties (primarily high value of the
molar extinction coefficient and great resistance to light and wet processing) and the fact that
can be obtained in a simple method of diazotization and coupling. In this paper, three new dyes
of 6-hydroxy-5-(hydroxy substituted phenylazo)-4-methyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-
carbonitriles were synthesized by a diazo coupling reaction starting from aminophenols (2-, 3-
and 4-substituted) and 6-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carbonitrile as coupling
components. The obtained dyes were characterized by melting point, IR, NMR, and UV-Vis
spectroscopy. Given the fact that the structure of the molecule and interactions obtained with the
surrounding medium can affect its activity, the possibility of azo hydrazo tautomerism has been
studied, as the influence of the position of the substituent present (orto-, meta- and para
position). In addition, the effect of the solvent used was determined by applying a solvatochromic
model using the LSER method (linear solvation energy relationship). Obtaining information
about the inter- and intramolecular relationships that newly synthesized compounds can achieve
may be of great importance for all further investigations and their potential application as
biologically active compounds.

AB  - Green, black, rooibos, and hibiscus tea (GT, BT, RT, and HT) aqueous extracts were prepared and
characterized in terms of total flavonoids (TFC) and total phenolic (TPC) contents and antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. BT has the highest, while HT has the lowest TFC (1213 vs. 415 mg l–1), while the extracts’ TPCs (2283 – 7251 mg l–1) decreased in the following order: BT > GT > RT > HT. Their antioxidant activities of 78.1 – 93.1% and 97.8 – 100% were determined according to DPPH and ABTS methods, respectively. BT and especially GT aqueous extracts possessed mild effects against several microorganisms. All examined extracts have an affinity for dyeing wool, cellulose acetate, polyamide, and cotton, which is proven by the color strength values of 1.65–19.12. Wool, polyacrylonitrile, polyester, polyamide, cotton, and cellulose acetate functionalized with GT aqueous extract inhibited the growth of S. aureus and E. coli, while polyacrylonitrile and cotton also inhibited the growth of E. faecalis, and C. albicans, respectively. Wide inhibition zones for S. aureus were observed for fabrics functionalized with BT aqueous extract. Generally, the investigated fabrics showed very high (81.60 – 100%) ABTS radical scavenging ability independent of the extract used. TPCs have good linear correlations with the antioxidant activities of wool and polyacrylonitrile determined by the DPPH method. Fabrics with different chemical compositions dyed and/or functionalized with GT or BT aqueous extracts can be used to produce high-valueadded medical textiles with therapeutic, prophylactic, and protective functions. They can find potential applications in wound treatment, especially in skin wounds that are susceptible to infection with S. aureus. Moreover, wool and cotton functionalized with GT or BT aqueous extract can also be considered for use in disposable medical textiles like bandages and gauze used in the wound-healing process.

AB  - Aryl azo dyes are widely used due to their excellent physicochemical properties (primarily high value of the molar extinction coefficient and great resistance to light and wet processing) and the fact that can be obtained in a simple method of diazotization and coupling. In this paper, three new dyes of 5-(hydroxy substituted phenylazo)-3-cyano-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-pyridone were synthesized by a diazo coupling reaction. The obtained dyes were characterized by melting point, IR, NMR, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Given the fact that the structure of the molecule and interactions obtained with the surrounding medium can affect its activity, the possibility of azo hydrazo tautomerism has been studied, as the influence of the position of the substituent present (orto-, meta- and para position). In addition, the effect of the solvent used was determined by applying a solvatochromic model using the LSER method (linear solvation energy relationship). Obtaining information about the inter- and intramolecular relationships that newly synthesized compounds can achieve may be of great importance for all further investigations and their potential application as biologically active compounds.
AB  - Aril azo boje imaju široku primenu zbog svojih odličnih fizičko-hemijskih svojstava (prvenstveno visoke vrednosti molarnog ekstinkcionog koeficijenta i velike otpornosti na svetlost i vlagu) i činjenice da se mogu dobiti jednostavnom metodom diazotizacije i kuplovanja. U ovom radu susintetisane tri boje 5-(hidroksi supstituisane fenilazo)-3-cijano-6-hidroksi-4-metil-2-piridona reakcijom diazo kuplovanja. Dobijene boje su okarakterisane tačkom topljenja, IR, NMR i UV-Vis spektroskopijom. S obzirom na to da struktura molekula i ostvarene interakcije sa okolnim medijumom mogu uticati na aktivnost ispitivanih jedinjenja, proučavan je solvatohromizam i moguććnost azo-hidrazon tautomerije, kao i uticaj položaja prisutnog supstituenta (orto-, meta- i para pozicija ) u strukturi ispitivanih jedinjenja. Pored toga, kvantitatifikovan je efekat korišććenih rastvarača primenom dva solvatohromna modela koristeći LSER metodu (linear solvation energy relationship). Dobijanje informacija o inter- i intra-molekulskim interakcijama koje sintetizovana jedinjenja mogu da ostvare su od velike važnosti za sva dalja istraživanja i njihovu potencijalnu primenu kao biološki aktivnih jedinjenja.

Revalorization of Cotton and Cotton/Elastane Knitted Fabric Waste

AB  - The present paper demonstrates a simple way for revalorization of differently softened cotton and cotton/elastane knitted fabric waste collected from the textile industry. Such waste was used as an adsorbent for Congo Red (CR) dye, whereby up to 96% removal efficiency was reached. The CR adsorption process onto cationic and silicone softened fabrics is in conformity with Langmuir (with maximum adsorption capacity of 12.533 mg/g) and Freundlich isotherms, respectively. Different adsorption of CR onto cationic and silicone softened fabrics is ascribed to the different softeners’ fixation to them, while the adsorption of CR operates in the same manner, via hydrophobic interactions. The adsorption kinetic data follow the pseudo-second-order model, while the equilibrium was reached after 90 min. Additionally, this study proposed a new circular economy solution for the disposal of fabric waste with adsorbed CR generating additional revenues. The volume electrical resistivity measurements confirmed that the knitted fabric wastes with adsorbed CR have 169–737 times lower resistivities (0.008–0.037 GΩ·cm) than before the adsorption. The inversely proportional correlation between fabrics’ adsorption efficiencies and their volume electrical resistivities after CR adsorption was found. Such knitted fabric waste with adsorbed CR could be defined as dissipative materials and could be used for providing antistatic protection.

AB  - Five novel D-π-A structured pyridinium based compounds, bearing different electron-donating units were synthesized, minutely characterized, and their solvatochromic and electronic properties were investigated. Subsequently, these compounds were added to a liquid electrolyte in order to enhance the photovoltaic performance of the N719-sensitized solar cell. It was demonstrated that the utilization of all compounds improved the conversion efficiency, compared to the reference solar cell comprised of plain liquid electrolyte. The photovoltaic performance of the fabricated DSSC depended of the electron-donating moiety of the synthesized compound. The highest photovoltaic conversion efficiency of 4.11% was obtained for DSSC with the compound bearing the 4-(N,N-dimethylamino)phenyl group.

AB  - This study aimed to characterize mixtures of goat milk proteins and Agaricus blazei Murrill (ABM) extracts (aqueous, AE and polysaccharides, PE). The mixtures showed stable particles with ζ-potential more negative than −41.1 mV. The addition of AMB extracts to goat milk did not result in a significant particle size change, whereas their addition to heated goat milk significantly increased mean particle diameter (from 194 nm to 225 nm). Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) showed that ABM extracts provoked changes in the secondary structure of goat milk proteins and interactions between polysaccharides and milk proteins predominantly via hydrogen and/or glycoside bonds and hydrophobic interactions. The milk protein profiles revealed proteolytic activity in mixtures with AE resulting in the formation of five new polypeptides. The different microstructures of mixtures with AE and PE were found by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). A schematic representation of possible milk proteins-ABM extracts interactions has been given.

abstract = "This study aimed to characterize mixtures of goat milk proteins and Agaricus blazei Murrill (ABM) extracts (aqueous, AE and polysaccharides, PE). The mixtures showed stable particles with ζ-potential more negative than −41.1 mV. The addition of AMB extracts to goat milk did not result in a significant particle size change, whereas their addition to heated goat milk significantly increased mean particle diameter (from 194 nm to 225 nm). Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) showed that ABM extracts provoked changes in the secondary structure of goat milk proteins and interactions between polysaccharides and milk proteins predominantly via hydrogen and/or glycoside bonds and hydrophobic interactions. The milk protein profiles revealed proteolytic activity in mixtures with AE resulting in the formation of five new polypeptides. The different microstructures of mixtures with AE and PE were found by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). A schematic representation of possible milk proteins-ABM extracts interactions has been given.",

AB  - Wide commercial application of azo pyridone dyes rests on the cost-effectiveness of their preparation and almost innumerable possibilities for the synthesis by combining various diazo and coupling pyridone components that enable tuning of targeted properties. The great significance of these dyes in the last few decades is due to their outstanding properties, such as vivid colors and good color fastness properties. Azo pyridone dyes are also applicable in different coloration related processes such as inkjet printing and liquid crystal displays. On the other hand, they are recognized as valuable compounds in biological studies, as they possess antioxidant, antimicrobial and antiproliferative properties. In this work, three novel 6-hydroxy-4-methyl-1-pyridinium-2-pyridone based dyes bearing three bioactive heterocyclic rings in their structures are synthesized, wherein thiazole based anilines (2-aminothiazole, 2-aminobenzothiazole, 6-methoxy-2-aminobenzothiazole) are used as diazo components. The compounds are characterized by melting points, NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. The solvatochromic properties are investigated in solvents of different properties. Furthermore, the antioxidant capacities of the compounds are evaluated by ABTS (2,2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) assay, while antimicrobial activity is determined by broth microdilution method against five bacterial strains (S. aureus, E. faecalis, B. subtilis, E. coli and K. pneumoniae) and one fungal strain (C. albicans).
AB  - Široka komercijalna upotreba piridonskih azo boja zasniva se na njihovoj relativno jeftinoj i jednostavnoj pripremi, kao i činjenici da se veliki broj kuplujućih i diazo komponenti mogu međusobno kombinovati kako bi se dobile boje odgovarajućih svojstava. Veliki značaj ovih boja poslednjih nekoliko decenija, ogleda se u njihovim istaknutim svojstvima kao što su živopisna obojenja i dobra postojanost. Ove boje, takođe, nalaze primenu u ink-džet štampi i LCD ekranima. Sa druge strane, ove boje predstavljaju značajna jedinjenja u biološkim studijama, jer poseduju antioksidativnu, antimikrobnu i antiproliferativnu aktivnost. U ovom radu, sintetisane su tri boje koje u svojoj strukturi obuhvataju tri bioakativna heterociklična jezgra, pri čemu je kao kuplujuća komponenta korišćen 6-hidroksi-4-metil-1-piridinijum-2-piridon, a kao diazo komponente anilini na bazi tiazola (2-aminotiazol, 2-aminobenzotiazol i 6-metoksi-2-aminobenzotiazol). AB  - In this work, the electrooxidation ability of nine pyridones was evaluated using cyclic(CV) and square-wave voltammetry (SWV) in Britton–Robinson (BR) aqueous buffer solutions on aglassy carbon electrode (GC). The dependence of electrochemical activity on pyridone structure waselucidated by means of experimentally obtained spectra and quantum chemical calculations. Firstly, itwas shown that electrochemical activity is determined by the –OH group as a substituent in position6 of the pyridone ring. By coupling the experimentally obtained UV-Vis spectra and DFT calculations,the most stable forms, both protonated and deprotonated, were defined. The calculated values areconsistent with the electrochemical behavior observed, indicating that the deprotonated anionic formwas the most electrochemically active. Moreover, the impact of the substituent in position 3 of thepyridone scaffold was discussed

AB  - Azo boje predstavljaju veoma značajnu grupu jedinjenja budući da više od 50% sintetičkih boja pripada upravo ovim strukturama. Zahvaljujući jednostavnoj i ekonomičnoj sintezi, kao i velikoj otpornosti prema svetlosti i pranju lako su pronašle primenu u raznim granama industrije. Pored uobičajene upotrebe u tekstilnoj, kozmetičkoj i prehrambenoj industriji, azo boje se koriste i za izradu solarnih ćelija, LCD ekrana, fotografskih, itd. Neka jedinjenja iz ove grupe su pokazala i dobru biološku aktivnost, a po najnovijim istraživanjima mogu se primeniti u lečenju tumora. U ovom radu je ispitan uticaj rastvarača na apsorpcione spektre odabranih arilazo piridonskih boja radi dobijanja informacija o solvatohromnim osobinama koje mogu imati veliki uticaj na potencijalnu biološku aktivnost. Spektri sedam derivata 5-(disupstituisanih fenilazo)-3-cijano-6-hidroksi-4-metil-2-piridona snimljeni su u deset rastvarača različitih svojstava u opsegu talasnih dužina 300-600 nm. Kvantitativna analiza interakcija između odabranih azo boja i okolnog medijuma je urađena primenom odgovarajućeg solvatohromnog modela metodom višestruke linerane korelacije solvatohromnih energija (LSER metoda).

more than 50% of synthetic dyes belong to these structures. Because of their
economic synthesis, as well as great light and washing resistance, they have
easily found applications in industry. In addition to the use in textile, cosmetic, and food industries, azo dyes are also used for making solar cells, LCD
screens, photographic systems, etc. Some derivatives have shown good biological activity, and they can be used in the treatment of tumors. In this paper, the
influence of solvents on the absorption spectra of selected aryl azo pyridone
dyes was investigated to obtain information on solvatochromic properties that
can have a great influence on potential biological activity. Spectra of seven
5-(disubstituted phenyl azo)-3-cyano-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-pyridones were
recorded in ten solvents of different properties in the wavelength range 300-
600 nm. Quantitative analysis of interactions between selected azo dyes and
the surrounding medium was performed using the corresponding solvatochromic model by the method of multiple linear correlations of solvatochromic
energies.

AB  - Polymeric materials are widely used in the chemical and optical industries, the packaging materials industry, and biomedicine. New technologies and the search for innovative and sustainable solutions have contributed to the development of polymer sensors and smart materials. Poly(vinyl-alcohol) (PVA) is a thermoplastic polymer soluble in water. It belongs to the group of non-toxic and completely biodegradable polymers, with excellent thermal and mechanical properties. Polymer-colored films have great potential as sensor systems, primarily due to their visual color change, which makes them easy to use. Azo dyes, which are used for coloring polymer films, represent the most important class of synthetic dyes, and their exceptional properties are reflected in high extinction coefficients, as well as excellent fastness to light and wet processing. Traditionally, azo dyes are used in the food and cosmetic industries, and are also used as pH indicators.
In this work, in addition to the synthesis of azo pyridone dyes, polymeric films were also synthesized. The first series of films were synthesized based on PVA and newly synthesized azo dyes, and the sensory properties of the new films were tested. The second series of films were synthesized in order to test the films as dosimeters for γ-radiation, and for this reason, TTC was added to their synthesis. The dye used in the experiments were characterized by ATR-FTIR, NMR and UV-Vis spectra. The chemical structure of the synthesized films was analyzed by ATR-FTIR spectroscopy. The sensory properties of the film were tested in solutions of different pH values, while the possibility for application in dosimetry was tested at different doses of γ-radiation at the 60Co source. Changes in the color of the films were monitored spectrophotometrically by recording reflection spectra.

AB  - The reduction of water pollution represents one of the priority topics of the EU’s goal to achieve
climate neutrality by 2050. Considering this, the concept of reusing the same dyebath for
multiple dyeing cycles is proposed. For this purpose, two pyridinium-based azo pyridone dyes
with improved solubility and affinity towards different fibers, are used for dyeing wool fabric.
It is demonstrated that the dye concentration in wastewater could be reduced up to four times
by recirculation of the same dyebath 5 times. The dyed fabrics obtained in each cycle are further
characterized regarding color strength (K/S) and ultraviolet protection factor (UPF), while their
antioxidant potential is evaluated by ABTS (2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic
acid)) test. The results revealed that the proposed concept could be used for obtaining
multifunctional wool fabrics by following the principles of sustainable development of reducing
the effluent load in wastewater.

AB  - The reduction of water pollution represents one of the priority topics of the EU’s goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. Herby textile industry is focused on developments in numerous environmental and social issues, including high emissions, high water and/or energy consumption and heavy pollution [1]. Coloured effluents from this industry disposed into natural ecosystems are responsible for about 20% of global clean water pollution [2]. The European Union aims to reduce textile waste and increase the life cycle and recycling of textiles as part of the plan to achieve a circular economy by 2050 by sustainable products and empowering consumers to participate in the green transition [2]. One of the main research topics connecting textile industry and waste water reduction is found in synthesis of eco-friendly dyes which are superior to their natural analogues due to the excellent dyeing capabilities and colour fastness properties. Among these, azo pyridine dyes gained attention for the simplicity of their preparation, good colour fastness, high tinctorial strength, thermal and optical stability [3]. Traditionally, applied as disperse dyes, they have low water solubility and are used for colouring mostly synthetic fibres. Recent findings showed that the introduction of the pyridinium ring into pyridone molecule resulted in enhanced water solubility of the dyes and improved affinity towards various natural and synthetic fibres, especially wool and cellulose diacetate fibres [4].
For the purpose of addressing environmental issues in the textile industry, in this work, two pyridinium-based azo pyridone dyes with improved solubility and affinity towards different fibres, are used for dyeing wool fabric. The results show that the same dyebath can be efficiently used multiple times, therefore reducing waste in the water while securing the optimizing dying. The obtained fabrics from different cycles are further characterized by K/S values while the residue of the dye in the wastewater was recorded using UV-Vis spectra.
