AB - Hydropower plants need to develop means of protection of turbine and hydromechanical equipment from undesirable occurrences, such as degradation of parent material and/or weld metal of parts and structures caused by stresses and unpredictable influence of vibrations, fatigue, corrosion, erosion and cavitation. Results of tests that refer to the cavitation resistance of turbine runner blades made of cast steel 08X15H4 pi M pi, in accordance with GOST standard are presented in this paper. For the testing of cavitation resistance, the ultrasonic vibration test method is used (with the stationary sample), for which it is necessary to measure the mass loss during specified time intervals, while the cavitation resistance of the material is being defined, taking into account the incubation period and cavitation rate. Scanning electron microscope analysis is carried out to study the morphology of sample damage due to cavitation. The obtained results show that the tested steel has a good cavitation resistance and that fatigue is the main failure mechanism.

AB - In order to reduce the testing costs for structural welded joints and production losses due to excavator standstill, a new method for integrity and reliability assessment of welded joints during exploitation of bucket wheel excavators has been developed. In this paper, a part of non-destructive testing results for the butt welded joints on bucket wheel boom, counterweight boom and discharging boom is presented, prior to the repair of the collapsed bucket wheel excavator SchRs 1760x32/5. It has been in operational mode for 17 years prior to the collapse, in other words it has been subjected to aproximatelly 2 125.000 cycles of variable loading. Hypergeometric distribution has been used for calculation of probability that x welded joints, which comprise n welded joints with defects, would be selected for testing out of overall number of joints Q. The integrity assessment for welded structures of bucket wheel excavators has been performed on the basis of defect analysis and probabilistic assessment of the fatigue crack growth in welded joints. By using this method, the testing costs have been reduced by 70 % through optimized scope of the inspections and time periods between them.

AB - The bucket wheel boom tie-rods are vital structural parts of the bucket wheel excavators (BWE) Their failures inevitably cause BWE collapse and are followed among other things by a substantial financial loss (millions of E) Non-destructive testing revealed a flaw in the butt welded Joint of the body and eye-plate of the bucket wheel tie-rod Its size exceeds the level allowed by current technical regulations An integrity assessment of the bucket wheel tie-rod has been carried out i e the remaining fatigue life has been determined based on the stress-state characteristics in the welded Joint and defined by experimental research in real working conditions The calculation results show that despite the excessive size of the internal flaw the welded Joint integrity is not compromised During periodical inspections of the welded joint in the past two years (BWE was put into operation in December 2007) changes that could compromise the structural integrity were not observed In this way by using a fail-safe philosophy design a considerable financial saving (ca 1 600 000 (sic)) was achieved while at the same time there was no threat to the worker s safety and life the safety of the machine and the production process in the open pit mine

AB - A residual strength degradation model for two orientations of fibers of carbon-epoxy composite is proposed. The model is constructed on the basis of an analysis of a gradual decrease in the residual strength of the composite and an increase in loading cycles. Two groups of specimens were subjected to tensile tests under static and dynamic loading. It was necessary to determine the relationship between static and dynamic properties of the composite to predict the residual strength for different numbers of loading cycles. On the basis of initial experimental results, the values of the parameters obtained by using the model were computed numerically. The statistical distributions of the corresponding ultimate strengths obtained by using the model were compared with the distributions of experimental results, and their good correlation is demonstrated.

AB - The aim of this paper is to present the influence of high and low temperatures on the impact properties glass-epoxy composites. The impact strength an is presented for four different glass-epoxy composite structures at three different temperatures, i.e., at room temperature t=20°C, at an elevated temperature t=+50°C and at a low temperature t=-50°C. Standard mechanical testing was carried out on the composite materials with specific masses of reinforcement of 210 g m-2 and 550 g m-2 and orientations 0°/90° and ±45°. Micromechanical analysis of the failure was performed in order to determine real models and mechanisms of crack and temperature influence on the impact properties. .

AB - Pipes made of composites glass fiber/epoxy resin are predominantly used in the chemical industry, construction, infrastructure and war technique. The pipes made for this purpose are in their use exposed to static and dynamic loading. Depending on the purpose, the pipes, especially those in complex structures, can be loaded by torsion. In that case, exceeding allowed tensions can cause damages such as cracking the fibers and matrix delamination. These damages can lead to the appearance of cracks on the pipes and in many cases to complete breakage of the pipe. Because of this, it is very important to evaluate composite pipes exposed to torsion and find out in which way the construction is weakened, what actually is the main goal of this paper.

AB - Pressure vessels during the usage are exposed under very bad working conditions which make very high tension. In this work the calculation of all the elements of vertical cylindrical pressure vessel for the storage of beer which is now in usage can influence safe work and experimenting (cylinder, torispherical heads, holes, blind flanges, cover plates and flanges). Calculation of the tension condition was done according to the standards and rules about the pressure vessels. The addition to this calculation as wall as the contribution of this work is the calculation by the usage of the Finite Element Method by usage of finite element of the thin shell type. The results we got and their analysis allow the whole approach to the mark of safety of pressure vessel in usage.
Dobijeni rezultati i njihova analiza omogućavaju sveobuhvatni pristup oceni sigurnosti posude u eksploataciji.

AB - The aim of this paper was to present the determination of tensile strength Rm and modulus of elasticity Et of glass-epoxy composites at two different temperatures (at room temperature t=20°C, and at t =-50°C). Standard mechanical testing was carried out on glass woven-epoxy composite material with different structures (two specific weights of reinforcement, 210 g/m2 and 550 g/m2) and orientations (0°/90° and ±45°). Micromechanical analysis of failure was performed on a stereo microscope and SEM in order to determine real models and mechanisms of crack.
AB - Predmet i cilj ispitivanja prikazanih u ovom radu predstavlja određivanje zatezne čvrstoće (Rm) i modula elastičnosti (EJ staklo-epoksi kompozitnih materijala ispitivanjem na zatezanje na dve različite temperature (t=20°S i t=-50°S). Ispitivanja su izvedena prema standardu na staklo-epoksi kompozitnom materijalu različitih struktura (dve specifične težine ojačanja 210 g/m2H 550 g/m2) i orijentacija ojačanja (0°/90° i ±45°). Doprinos predstavlja i mikromehanička analiza na prelomnim površinama izvedena na stereo i elektronskom mikroskopu kojom se došlo do stvarnih modela nastanka i razvoja oštećenja pri izvedenim ispitivanjima.

AB - Mechanical loading of pressure vessels mainly comes from pressure (inner and outer) under which is vessel subjected. Tension which appears changes according to the thickness of the wall. Thanks to the its specific structure, by the usage of composite materials in pressure vessels a lot of advantages are got in the field of technology of making, and during the usage, in comparison to some other constructive materials. Their shaping by the need makes it possible to optimize the structure along the thickness. The subject and aim of this work represents calculation and description of numeric model with which the different cases of the work of inner and outer pressure were simulated, for the different thickness of the wall of the pressure vessel of glass epoxy composite. In that way we come to optimal structure of material for different working pressures under which the vessels can be submitted during the usage.
