AB - The aim of this study was a characterization of the crystals of gold complexes based on mercaptotrazole, obtained from solutions with different pH values (2, 4, 7, and 9), using the methods of infrared (IR) and Raman spectroscopy. Both methods provided very useful information on the investigated systems and signalized existence of the Au-S bond in the complexes obtained at pH = 2 and 9. Recorded spectra clearly illustrated the changes that occur in the systems as a consequence of pH change. At the same time, the results also showed that the pyrrole nitrogen atoms stay protonated at pH = 9, which is not in favor of the assumption evolved from the previous UV-vis analysis of possible additional coordination between Au and possible deprotonated nitrogen atoms at this particular pH.

AB - The aim of this work was to investigate the effect of current density on thickness, surface roughness, visual
appearance and morphology of electrochemically deposited gold decorative coating obtained from
conventional cyanide electrolyte (AUROCIN DPB) and organic electrolyte, based on merkaptotriasole (AuMT). Mechanically and chemically prepared brass samples are first nickeled from acidic electrolyte. Nickel
was a substrate deposit and, then the decorative gold coatings were deposited from two types of electrolytes
at different current densities, at room temperature. Increase of current density has a positive effect on
thickness of decorative gold coatings obtained from both electrolytes, for cyanide electrolyte (at D=0.1
A/dm2
 b=0.080.12m, at D=0.4 A/dm2
 b=0.040.11m and at D=1 A/dm2
 b=0.080.12 m) and for
electrolyte based on merkaptotriasole (at D=0.1 A/dm2
 b=0.030.11m, at D=0.5 A/dm2
 b=0.040.11m,
D=0.83 A/dm2
 b=0.050.11 m, D=1 A/dm2
 b=0.080.12 m and at D=1.7 A/dm2
 b=0.040.11m). In
cyanide electrolyte, the surface roughness of gold coating is smallest for gold coating obtained at D=1 A/dm2
(Ra=0.082 m at 0.1 A/dm2
, Ra =0.628 m at 0.4 A/dm2
 and Ra=0.052 m at 0.1 A/dm2
). Increasing the
current density of Au-MT results in increasing of the surface roughness of gold coating (Ra =0.076 m at 0.1
A/dm2
, Ra=0.581 m at 0.5 A/dm2
, Ra=0.100 m at 0.83A/dm2
, Ra=0.066 m at 1 A/dm2
 and Ra=0.053 m
at 1.7 /dm2
). The best coating roughness profiles are obtained at current density of 1 A/dm2
 for both types of
electrolyte. The coating thickness is measured using the apparatus type UPA XRF 200 A by X-rays
reflection from gold atoms. Surface roughness is measured with a device TR 200 Surface Roughness Tester.
Roughness parameters were computer readings. This was done using software :TR 200 Time Data View.
Roughness is measured over a distance of 3.98 mm. The morphology of gold deposits, obtained from both
electrolytes, was studied using the scanning electron microscope (SEM model: JOEL JSM-6610LV).
