AB - The state of the tautomeric equilibria of eleven arylazo pyridone dyes was evaluated from UV-Vis absorption spectra with the aid of the quantum mechanical modeling. NMR analysis and theoretical calculations, by using PCM/omega B97X-D/6-311G(d,p) method, confirmed that prepared compounds exist mainly in Hydrazo form. Internal hydrogen bonding in Hydrazo tautomer, analyzed by AIM topological analysis and total electron density at the bond critical point (BCP), confirmed a presence of strong hydrogen bond which contributes to higher stability of Hydrazo form. Linear solvation energy relationships (LSERs) rationalized solvent influence on solvatochromism of all compounds in Hydrazo form and K-T by using Kamlet-Taft model. Linear free energy relationships (LFERs) were applied to the substituent-inducedNMR chemical shifts (SCS) using SSP (single substituent parameter) and DSP (dual substituent parameter) model. Density plots over the highest occupied (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals (LUMO) energy surface provide information on the charge transfer during excitation. The molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) surface map was plotted over the optimized geometry of the molecules in order to visualize electron density distribution and explain origin of solvent/solute interactions.

AB - The structural characteristics of polymer nanocomposites with functionalized multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in poly(methyl methacrylate) matrix have been studied in relation to nanofiller loading and surface functionality. Different functional groups have been covalently attached on the MWCNTs sidewalls in order to induce interfacial interactions at nanofiller/polymer interface, which resulted in an improved nanomechanical features. Structural properties of nanocomposites, studied with XRD and Raman analysis, indicated the most pronounced decrease in a degree of amorphousness for samples containing 0.5 and 1 wt% of MWCNTs functionalized with dapsone (dapson-MWCNT) and diethyl malonate (dem-MWCNT). SEM and TEM micrographs confirmed improved dispersibility of the MWCNTs modified with aromatic structure of dapsone inside PMMA matrix. A significant increase in a glass transition temperature of over 60 degrees C has been found for the 1 wt% dapson-MWCNT nanocomposite. Additional modification of dapson-MWCNT by further increasing aromaticity and voluminosity of attached moiety (fid-MWCNT), showed 30 degrees C increases in a glass transition temperature at 4 wt% of nanofiller loading, which is similar to shift of 37 degrees C with loading of MWCNTs modified with ester terminal group. A maximum increase of 56% of reduced modulus and 86% of hardness was obtained for 1 wt% loading of dapson-MWCNT nanofiller.

AB - Linear free energy relationships (LFER) were applied to the kinetic data for the reaction of 5-substituted orotic acids, series 1, with diazodiphenylmethane (DDM) in N,N-dimethylformamide and compared with results obtained for 2-substituted benzoic acids, series 2. The correlation analysis of the kinetic data with sigma substituent parameters was carried out using SSP (single substituent parameter) methods. From the sign and value of proportinality constant rho, lower sensitivity to the substituent effect was obtained in series 1, 0.876, than in the series 2, 1.877. Evaluation of substituent "ortho-effect" was performed using the Charton model, which includes the steric substituent parameter, and Fujita and Nishioka's model, which describes the total ortho-effect as contribution of ordinary polar effect, the ortho-steric and ortho-polar effects. Results of correlations, obtained by using the Charton model, showed highest contribution of the polar effect, 0.861 vs. 2.101, whereas the steric effect is of lowest significance, 0.117 vs. 0.055, for series 1 and 2, respectively. Also, a low negative value of coefficient with the steric effect, -0.08, obtained from the Fujita-Nishioka model indicated low steric effect, influencing a decrease of the reaction rate in series 1. The structural and substituent effects were also studied by using the density functional theory method, and together with kinetic data, it gave a better insight into the influence of the effect of both geometry and substituent on the pi-electron density shift induced reactivity of investigated acids. geometry and substituent on the pi-electron density shift induced reactivity of investigated acids.

AB - The morphological, thermal and barrier properties of low-density polyethylene/polycaprolactone-modified nanocellulose hybrid materials were investigated in this study. Nanocellulose/magnetite (NC-Fe3O4) nanocomposite and maleic acid functionalized NC/magnetite (NCMA-Fe3O4) nanocomposite were prepared and used as fillers at various concentrations (5, 10 and 15 wt. %) in the polycaprolactone (PCL) layer. PE was coated with a PCL/NC//magnetite layer. The addition of the filler did not unfavorably affect the inherent properties of the polymer, especially its barrier properties. Oxygen permeation measurements showed that the oxygen barrier properties of magnetite enriched PCL film were improved due to the chemical activity of the added material. The highest level of the barrier capacity was observed for PE samples coated with a PCL-based composite with NCMA-Fe3O4 micro/nanofiller, which implies a significant contribution of the surface modification of the nanocellulose with maleic anhydride residue to the improved barrier properties.

AB - Covalent sidewall functionalization of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) has been performed using two approaches, direct and indirect cycloaddition through diethyl malonate, based on the Bingel reaction. The results revealed that functionalized MWCNTs demonstrated enhanced electrical properties and significantly lower sheet resistance, especially after electric field thermal assisted annealing at 80 degrees C was performed. The presence of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds caused the surface of MWCNTs to be more hydrophilic, approachable for the electrolyte and improved the capacitance performance of Au/MWCNTs electrodes. The modified MWCNTs have been incorporated into nanocomposites by using solution mixing method with polyaniline and drop-casting resulting mixture on the paper substrate. The reduction in the sheet resistance with increasing the content of MWCNTs in the prepared nanocomposite films has been achieved.

AB - Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) have been functionalized by dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) in air. The extent of functionalization of MWCNTs and GNPs reaches a maximum at the delivered discharge energy of 720 and 240J mg(-1), respectively. Further exposure to plasma leads to reduction of functional groups from the surface of the treated nanomaterials. It has also been demonstrated that DBD plasma does not produce dramatic structural changes in MWCNTs, while flakes of the treated GNPs become thinner and smaller in the lateral size. Conductive thin films, obtained by drop casting a solution of the treated nanomaterials in N-methyl-1-pyrrolidone on poly(methyl methacrylate) substrate, show significantly lower sheet resistance.

abstract = "Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) have been functionalized by dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) in air. Conductive thin films, obtained by drop casting a solution of the treated nanomaterials in N-methyl-1-pyrrolidone on poly(methyl methacrylate) substrate, show significantly lower sheet resistance.",

AB - 2-Pyridones are important heterocyclic compounds that are widely used in medical chemistry, and their various derivatives have significant biological and medical applications. In this paper, the synthesis of 2-pyridones as well as 2-pyridone-based compounds, such as 2-quinolones, using microwave assisted organic chemistry is reviewed. The review is divided in three parts. In the first part, microwave synthesis of 2-pyridones according to the type of condensation is discussed. In the second part, microwave assisted synthesis of 2-quionolones is listed. At the end of the review several examples of microwave synthesis of other 2-pyridone based compounds (ring fused W-substituted 2-pyridones) are given.
AB - Aromatična heterociklična jedinjenja predstavljaju veoma značajnu grupu jedinjenja zbog svoje biološke i medicinske primene.

AB - In this study, we have performed functionalization of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) via Bingel reaction and investigated influence on the addition of covalently functionalized GPNs on the structural changes of the poly(methyl methacrylate). Preparation of poly(methyl methacrylate) nanocomposites with functionalized GNPs has been accomplished by drop casting method of dissolved PMMA mixed with modified graphene nanoplatelets dispersed in a N-methyl-1-pyrrolidone. Functionalizaton of graphene has been achieved under the conditions of Bingel reaction, which implies introduction of diethyl malonate on the graphene surfaces through the cyclopropane ring formation. Introduction of the cyclopropane ring on to the surface of graphene does not significantly affect the initial structural properties of graphene nanoplatelets, allowing better dispersible properties due to interaction of covalently attached diethyl malonate groups with the polymer chains. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and elemental analysis confirmed the effectiveness of the addition of diethyl malonate via Bingel reaction on the surface of GNPs. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) has been used to provide information on the morphology of functionalized GNPs. Prepared nanocomposites have been characterized by Raman and FTIR spectroscopy. The changes regarding glass transition temperature have been monitored with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).

AB - A new optimized laboratory synthesis of tetraalkylthiuram disulfides, starting from dialkyl amines and carbon disulfide in presence of three oxidants (hydrogen peroxide, potassium peroxodisulfate and sodium hypochlorite) and appropriate reaction media (two mixtures of isopropyl alcohol-water used in two consecutive syntheses) was presented in this work. The first synthesis was performed in a recycled azeotropic mixture of isopropyl alcohol-water 87.7%-12.3%, and second in a filtrate obtained after first synthesis, which was a mixture of isopropyl alcohol-water 70.4%-29.6%. After the second synthesis and filtration, recycled azeotropic mixture isopropyl alcohol-water 87.7%-12.3% was regenerated from the filtrate by rectification. Considering this, the technology for beneficial use of recycling isopropyl alcohol-water mixture as a reaction medium for tetraalkylthiuram disulfides synthesis was developed. This concept could contribute to extraordinary economical benefit of implemented optimal laboratory synthesis at semi-industrial level. High yields of tetraalkylthiuram disulfides were obtained at both laboratory and semi-industrial level. Structure and purity of synthesized compounds were confirmed by elemental analysis, as well as FTIR, 1H- and 13C-NMR, and MS spectral data.
AB - U ovom radu je prikazan nov optimizovani laboratorijski postupak sinteza tetraalkiltiuramdisulfida, polazeći od dialkilamina i ugljendisulfida u prisustvu oksidacionih sredstava (vodonik-peroksid, kalijum-peroksodisulfat i natrijum-hipohlorit), u odgovarajućem reakcionom medijumu: dve smeše izopropil alkohol-voda korišćene u dve uzastopne sinteze. Prva sinteza se izvodi u reciklovanoj azeotropskoj smeši izopropil-alkohola-voda sastava 87,7%-12,3%. Struktura i čistoća sintetisanih jedinjenja: tetrametiltiuram-disulfid (TMTD), tetraetiltiuram-disulfid (TETD), tetrapropiltiuram-disulfid (TPTD), tetraizopropiltiuram-disulfid (TiPTD), tetrabutiltiuramdisulfid (TBTD), tetraizobutiltiuram-disulfid (TiBTD), su potvrđene FTIR, 1H- i 13C-NMR spektroskopijom, MS spektrometrijom i elementalnom analizom. Struktura i čistoća sintetisanih jedinjenja: tetrametiltiuram-disulfid (TMTD), tetraetiltiuram-disulfid (TETD), tetrapropiltiuram-disulfid (TPTD), tetraizopropiltiuram-disulfid (TiPTD), tetrabutiltiuramdisulfid (TBTD), tetraizobutiltiuram-disulfid (TiBTD), su potvrđene FTIR, 1H- i 13C-NMR spektroskopijom, MS spektrometrijom i elementalnom analizom. AB - An optimized synthesis of N-alkyl, N,N-dialkyl- and N-cycloalkyl-O-isobutyl thioncarbamates by aminolysis of sodium isobutylxanthogenic acid (NaiBXAc) and primary, secondary and cycloalkyl amines was developed at laboratory scale and applied at semi-industrial level. Studies on dependence of N-n-propyl-O-isopropylthiocarbamate yield and purity with respect to reaction parameters: reaction time and molar ratio of n-propylamine and NaiBXAc, were performed. In such way, optimal reaction conditions for synthesis of N-alkyl, N,N-dialkyl- and N-cycloalkyl- O-isobutyl thioncarbamates, by aminolysis of NaiBXAc, were established. Also, comparative results of thioncarbamates synthesis starting from potassium isobutyl xanthate (KiBX) and corresponding amines in presence of different oxidants (hydrogen peroxide, sodium hypochlorite and new oxidative agent potassium peroxodisulfate) were evaluated. The synthesized compounds have been fully characterized by FTIR, 1H- and 13C-NMR and MS data, elemental analysis and purity have been determined by gas chromatographic method (GC). To our knowledge, ten synthesized thioncarbamates are here characterized for the first time. The synthesized compounds could be used as selective reagents for flotation of copper and zinc ores. The presented methods offer several benefits, namely, high product yields and purity, simple operation, mild reaction conditions without use of hazardous organic solvents, while some of them could be implemented on industrial scale production.
AB - U radu je prikazana optimizovana sinteza N-alkil-, N,N-dialkil- i N-cikloalkil-O-izobutiltionkarbamata reakcijom aminolize natrijum-izobutilksantogenacetata (NaiBXAc) i primarnih, sekundarnih i cikloalkilamina. Takođe, dat je pregled uporednih postupaka sinteze tionkarbamata polazeći od kalijum-izobutilksantata (KiBX) i odgovarajućih amina u prisustvu različitih oksidacionih sredstava: vodonik-peroksida, natrijum-hipohlorita i kalijum-peroksodisulfata kao novog oksidacionog sredstva. Struktura sintetisanih jedinjenja potvrđena je FTIR, 1H- i 13C-NMR i MS instrumentalnim metodama i elementarnom analizom, a čistoća je određena gasnom hromatografskom metodom. Deset sintetisanih tionkarbamata su prvi put okarakterisani i predstavljaju nova jedinjenja. Sintetisana jedinjenja mogu naći primenu kao selektivni reagensi za flotaciju rude bakra i cinka. Opisane postupke karakteriše visok stepen konverzije i čistoća proizvoda, blagi reakcioni uslovi bez upotrebe organskih rastvarača kao reakcionog medijuma, a neki su tehnološki primenljivi na industrijskom nivou proizvodnje.

AB - Phencyclidine (PCP) or 1-phenyl-cyclohexylpiperidine is the best-known representative drug from the compound class of arylcyclohexylamines. On a pharmacological activities basis, it belongs to the family of drugs known as dissociative anesthetics. In recent years, great attention has been paid to the investigation of substances that have been abused, including PCP. PCP is a synthetic drug with stimulating and hallucinogenic effects (street name 'angel dust'), and it is included in the Schedule Substances List in Serbia and worldwide. In the beginning, PCP has been sold in pharmacies as a local anesthetic, but very quickly it was withdrawn from sale because of unwanted effects on consumer health causing psychoactive addiction. Taking into account that great attention is being given nowadays to substances that are subject of abuse, biological and pharmacological effects of PCP and its derivative, which depend on their structure and methods for synthesis, is described in this paper. It is shown that PCP is antagonist of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) and that it causes antiglutamatergic hallucinations, unlike BTCP whose agonist is an NMDA receptor and is obtained by modifying the structure of PCP. This paper presents a PCP metabolism and provides an overview of the methods for their identification and quantification in biological samples. Immunological tests of PCP in biological samples can provide a quick but wrong result because of the possible interference with the other substances of abuse as opposed to instrumental methods. Based on the presented method and the results it was concluded that the method of choice for the examinations of biological samples for the presence of PCP is gas chromatography in combination with mass spectroscopy.
