AB - Wrought Al-Mg alloys are important and promising material for application in transportation industry primarily due to favorable strength to weight ratio. As a result of their usage in the field of transportation, the weight of vehicle constructions become reduced, resulting in a decrease of fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. In addition to these advantages, one of the important demands on the application of Al-Mg alloys as a light weight structural material, is providing a high strength, corrosion resistance and good surface quality without relief caused by yield point phenomena and serrated flow. Such a good combination of properties can be achieved by a variation and optimization of thermomechanical processing parameters including a degree of deformation and annealing conditions.
In this study we investigated the effect of cold rolling reductions and different annealing conditions, on the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of an AA5182 type Al-Mg alloy. Material was industrially produced and supplied by Impol-Seval Aluminium Rolling Mill, Sevojno, Serbia, as hot rolled 12 mm thick plates. Further lab-processing of hot rolled plates included cold rolling with 40-85% reduction in thickness, and annealing in the range of temperatures 280-350°C, in a different period of time. Annealed specimens were used for room temperature tensile testing while corrosion testing was performed on the annealed and sensitized specimens. Intergranular corrosion (IGC) susceptibility was determined by nitric acid mass loss test (NAMLT) for the selected states.
The results showed that corrosion resistance, tensile strength and yield point elongation were mostly affected by a degree of cold deformation. It was found that increasing in cold rolling reduction from 40-85% before annealing causes an improved strength level due to grain size refinement. However, yield point elongation became more pronounced and a tendency towards Lüdering as undesirable surface appearance was increased. NAMLT testing showed that the material was corrosion resistant in as-annealed condition while it became susceptible to intergranular corrosion after sensitization treatment. IGC susceptibility of sensitized specimens increases with cold rolling reduction and a raise of annealing temperature.

AB - The Fe-bearing intermetallic phases present in the as-cast AA6026 alloy and their evolution during homogenization treatments at 480-550°C were investigated using optical microscopy, SEM, and TEM techniques in combination with EDS analysis. In addition to the α-Al(Fe,Mn)Si phase with dendritic morphology, two types of plate-like Fe-bearing microconstituents were revealed in the microstructure of the as-cast alloy. The EDS microanalysis and electron diffraction showed that one set of platelets represented thin sections of α-Al(Fe,Mn)Si microconstituent. The other set of plate-like microconstituents was identified as a tetragonal, silicon-rich δ-Al4(Fe,Mn)Si2 phase. The formation of the δ-Al4(Fe,Mn)Si2 phase was attributed to the chemical composition of the alloy. During homogenization, the metastable δ-Al4(Fe,Mn)Si2 transformed into the α-Al(Fe,Mn)Si phase and fragmented. The dendritic α-Al(Fe,Mn)Si microconstituents underwent fragmentation. However, while the α-Al(Fe,Mn)Si microconstituents preserved a b.c.c. crystal lattice throughout the process, the product of the transformation of the δ-Al4(Fe,Mn)Si2 phase exhibited primitive cubic lattice.

AB - In this work, we investigate the role of crystallographic texture on the onset of abnormal grain growth
(AGG) in AA5182 alloy. TMP included 65% cold-rolling reduction and isothermal annealing at 480°C at
various times. The microstructure characterization by optical microscopy in polarized light revealed that
AGG starts after holding for 5 min at 480°C. Further investigation of the sample with incipient abnormal
grains was conducted by an SEM equipped with an EBSD detector. The incipient abnormal grains appear
to have an orientation of minor texture components, i.e. different cube variants, most likely due to the
enhanced grain boundary mobility. However, texture fails to explain the difference in the propensity toward
AGG in the region close to the sheet surface and its center, which is likely caused by the non-uniform
distribution of the intermetallic particles.

AGG in the region close to the sheet surface and its center, which is likely caused by the non-uniform
distribution of the intermetallic particles.",

AB - Studies of recrystallization and grain growth phenomena have a long history, but the causes of abnormal grain growth (AGG) are not well understood. We report on the results of the study of the occurrence of AGG in Al-Mg alloy AA5182. The industrially produced hot band underwent various routes of thermo-mechanical processing: inter-annealing, cold rolling with reductions ranging from 40-85% followed by isochronal anneal (1h) in the temperature range 350-520°C or isothermal treatment at 480°C for various times. The microstructural characterization was conducted by optical microscopy in polarized light and FEG SEM, while the EBSD technique was used for microtexture analysis of the selected states. The results showed that the temperature for the onset of the AGG decreases as the degree of cold reduction increases. The abnormal grains start to appear in the regions close to the surface, i.e., within 1.5 mm from it in the inter-annealed 12 mm thick hot band or 700 μm in the case of cold rolled sheet with 64% reduction. Initially equiaxed, abnormal grains show strong growth anisotropy with much faster growth in the rolling than in the normal direction. Growth anisotropy was attributed to the rod-like shape and alignment of Al6Mn dispersoids through Zener pinning. With extended annealing, bands of abnormal grains form parallel to the surfaces. Microtexture analysis of the sample with incipient abnormal grains showed the presence of retained rolling texture components in the form of R-fibre. In contrast, the incipient abnormal grains appear to have orientations of cube variants, the texture components which are at or below random level. Since the texture is similar throughout the sheet, it is likely that the AGG starts first in the surface region due to the non-uniform deformation and distribution of the intermetallic particles.

AB - Since additive technologies in dentistry are gradually replacing metal casting technology, it is necessary to evaluate new dental constructions intended for the development of removable partial denture frameworks. The aim of this research was to evaluate the microstructure and mechanical properties of 3D-printed, laser-melted and -sintered Co–Cr alloys, and perform a comparative study with Co–Cr castings for the same dental purposes. The experiments were divided into two groups. The first group consisted of samples produced by conventional casting of the Co–Cr alloy. The second group consisted of 3D-printed, laser-melted and -sintered specimens produced from a Co–Cr alloy powder divided into three subgroups, depending on the technological parameters chosen for manufacturing (angle, location and heat treatment). Examination of the microstructure was carried out by classical metallographic sample preparation, using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis. A structural phase analysis was also performed by XRD. The mechanical properties were determined using a standard tensile test. The microstructure observation showed a dendritic character in the case of castings, while in the case of 3D-printed, laser-melted and -sintered Co–Cr alloys, the microstructure was typical for additive technologies. The XRD phase analysis confirmed the presence of Co–Cr phases (ε and γ). The results of the tensile test showed remarkably higher yield and tensile strength values and slightly lower elongation of the 3D-printed, laser-melted and -sintered samples than those produced by conventional casting.

AB - U završnoj fazi prerade Al-Mg legura, pojava abnormalnih zrna (AGG) u strukturi je
nepoželjna, jer dovodi do pogoršanja mehaničkih osobina. Medjutim, postoji veliki interes
za proučavanjem uticaja AGG, koja nastaju u toku medjužarenja, na razvoj mikrostrukture
i teksture tokom dalje prerade. Naime, odredjene teksturne komponente i tipovi granica
zrna imaju pozitivan uticaj na deformaciono i koroziono ponašanje.U ovom radu je opisan
efekat uslova medjužarenja i hemijskog sastava na mikrostrukturu Al-Mg legura. Uzorci,
AB - During final annealing of Al-Mg alloys, abnormal grain growth (AGG) is undesirableasit
deteriorates mechanical properties. However, there is interest to investigate how the
introduction of the AGG during intermediate annealing affects microstructure and texture
development upon further processing. It is known that certain texture components and grain
boundary types can affect formabilityand IGC susceptibility. In this study, the effect of
intermediate annealing conditions andchemical composition on the microstructure of of
Al-Mg alloysis reported. The specimens, annealed isochronally at temperatures of 350-
550°C or isothermally at 520°C for various times, were examined by optical microscopy in
polarized light. It is found that the AGG is confined to a band near the surface. There is
astrong anisotropy in grains shape and initially rapid grain growth stagnates with
furtherannealing. The influence of the chemical composition on the AGG was investigated
in four alloys and the results showed that the decrease in the alloying elementscontent
promoted AGG.

AB - To evaluate the effect of homogenization conditions on the possible loss of low-melting-point Pb and Bi to the surface in the free-cutting AA6026 alloy, three homogenization regimes were applied: 480 degrees C/12 h, 530 degrees C/12 h, and 550 degrees C/6 h. The microstructural characterization by optical, scanning, and transmission electron microscopy coupled with EDS analysis, macroanalysis of chemical composition by ICP-AES as well tensile tests at room and 500 degrees C, and Charpy impact test were employed to evaluate the different homogenization regimes. It was found that the choice of homogenization temperature had no significant effect on the level of loss of low-melting point elements. The optimal homogenization regime appeared to be 550 degrees C/ 6 h as it led to almost complete beta-AlFeSi -> alpha-AlFe(Mn)Si transformation and beta-Mg2Si dissolution resulting in improved mechanical properties. The presence of the liquid phase did not lead to catastrophic failure due to the liquid metal embrittlement of the aluminum matrix, but the wetting of Fe,Mn - bearing constituents by molten Pb led to decohesion of the constituents. The morphological change to globular alpha-AlFe(Mn)Si decreased the surface area and interconnectivity of the microconstituents, which improved the hot ductility. During cooling after homogenization at T > 500 degrees C, the Q-phase precipitated, pointing up the potential quench sensitivity of the alloy. However, precipitation of the Q-phase laths in dispersoid-free zones reduced strain localization and improved room temperature ductility and impact toughness.

AB - Purpose: Immature teeth are characterized by short roots, thin root canal walls, and open apices, which makes them prone to fracture. The aim was to investigate whether fiber-post placement had an influence on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated immature teeth. Materials and Methods: To simulate immature teeth, the apical third of 20 intact mandibular premolars was resected. After the access cavity was prepared, root canals and apices were enlarged. A 4-mm apical barrier was placed using calcium-silicate based material (Biodentine, Septodont). The teeth were then randomly assigned to two groups (n = 10). Root canals in group 1 were sealed using Acroseal (Septodont, France) and gutta-percha, followed by composite resin for the coronal restoration (Evetric, Ivoclar Vivadent). In group 2, fiber posts (FRC Postec Plus, Ivoclar Vivadent) were luted using self-adhesive composite cement (SpeedCEM Plus, Ivoclar Vivadent), followed by the same coronal restoration. The teeth were then subjected to fatigue and static load testing. Results: The average loads (+/- SD) that led to tooth fracture were: 401.40 +/- 296.83 N in group 1 and 636.20 +/- 204.95 N in group 2. Unfavorable fractures were noted in 9 specimens from group 1 and in 7 specimens in group 2. No statistically significant difference in fracture resistance or fracture mode was found between the groups. Conclusion: Fiber-post placement had no significant influence on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated immature teeth.

AB - The propensity of an alloy toward an abnormal grain growth (AGG) severely limits the annealing temperature range, capability for hot forming, and deteriorates mechanical properties. In this work, the results of a study of the effect of thermo-mechanical processing (TMP) of Al-Mg alloy AA5182 on the AGG are reported. TMP included cold rolling with a reduction range of 40-85 % followed by isochronal annealing (1 h) in a temperature range of 350-520 degrees C or isothermal treatment at 480 degrees C for different periods of time. The microstructure was characterized using optical microscopy in polarized light and an FEG SEM. The results showed that an increase in the degree of reduction lowers the annealing temperature for the onset of the AGG, while an increase in the annealing temperature increases the extent of the AGG for a given cold reduction. The abnormal grains tended to form in the region close to the surface of the plates, and with extended annealing bands. develope parallel to the surfaces in the rolling direction. However, no appreciable grain growth occurred in the plate center. The AGG and grain-boundary mobility showed a strong anisotropy with a much faster lateral growth than the motion of the growth front normal to the plate surface. Such anisotropy was attributed to the rod-like shape and alignment of Al6Mn dispersoids through Zener pinning.

AB - The occurrence of abnormal grain growth (AGG) in AA5182 alloy during annealing imposes severe restrictions on processing parameters and deteriorates mechanical properties. In this work, we investigated the effect of chemical composition on the appearance of abnormal grain growth by varying Mg and Mn content in the range of composition limits for standard AA5182 alloy, 4.0-5.0% Mg, and 0.2-0.5% Mn, respectively. Thermo-mechanical processing of alloys included cold rolling with reductions ranging from 40 to 85%, followed by annealing in the temperature range from 350 to 520 degrees C. The results showed that the rise in alloying elements content drives the onset of abnormal grain growth toward higher temperatures. The increase in the cold rolling reduction degree promotes abnormal grain growth and lowers its onset temperature. Abnormal grain growth and grain boundary mobility showed strong anisotropy related to rod-like shape and alignment of Al6Mn(Fe) dispersoids through Zener pinning.

AB - The subject of this study has been an investigation of the homogenization temperature
effect on the microstructure of Al-Mg-Si alloy containing low-melting point Pb and Bi
elements. The results of the characterization show that homogenization at temperatures
lower than 500 °C requires extraordinary long in order to initiate ß-AlFeSi -> α-AlFe(Mn)Si
transformation, necessary for good extrdability of the alloy ransformation, necessary for
good extrudability of the alloy. In addition, precipitation of ß-Mg2Si phase takes place,
decreasing the alloy's aging potential during the further processing. High-temperature
homogenization not only results in complete ß-AlFeSi -> α-AlFe(Mn)Si transformation and
dissolution of ß-Mg2Si phase but expected Pb and Bi escape to the specimen surface does
not occur.
AB - Predmet ovog rada je bilo ispitivanje i karakterizacija uslova homogenizacionog žarenja na
mikrostruktu Al-Mg-Si legure legirane nisko-topivim metalima Pb i Bi.
presovanje. Dodatno, dolazi do izdvajanja ß-Mg2Si faze, čime se smanjuje sposobnost legure
za starenje u daljoj preradi. Visoko-temperaturna homogenizacija ne samo da rezultuje u
potpunoj ß-AlFeSi -> α-AlFe(Mn)Si transformaciji i rastvaranju ß-Mg2Si faze, već i ne dolazi

presovanje. Dodatno, dolazi do izdvajanja ß-Mg2Si faze, čime se smanjuje sposobnost legure
za starenje u daljoj preradi. Visoko-temperaturna homogenizacija ne samo da rezultuje u
potpunoj ß-AlFeSi -> α-AlFe(Mn)Si transformaciji i rastvaranju ß-Mg2Si faze, već i ne dolazi

spektroskopijom elektrohemijske impedancije (EIS) i polarizacionim merenjima.
AB - The influence of the degree of deformation and applied processing route on the corrosion
stability of AA5083 alloy sheets processed by conventional rolling (CR) and accumulative roll
bonding (ARB) has been studied. The corrosion stability was evaluated by standard
electrochemical methods, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and
potentiodynamic measurements. It was found that the corrosion current density (jcorr) is
smaller for at least one order of magnitude for ARB multilayer samples. Higher degree of
plastic deformation induced better corrosion stability, for both CR monolayer and ARB
multilayer samples. Results showed that the overall impedance value of ARB samples was
more than doubled compared to the CR samples as a result of the multilayered structure
and the presence of oxidation film between the layers. Significantly larger semicircles in
Nyquist plots for ARB samples indicate increase of corrosion stability, with increasing the
number of ARB cycles. Experimental results showed that applied processing route and the
degree of deformation have a major impact on the corrosion stability of the AA5083 alloy.

AB - Influence of accumulative roll bonding (ARB) and conventional cold rolling (CR) on the mechanical and corrosion properties of AA5083 alloy sheets has been studied. Tensile tests showed significant increase in strength and a decrease in elongation after each ARB deformation and cold rolling reductions. Results of nitric acid mass loss test (NAMLT) revealed that cold rolled and ARB processed specimens were resistant toward intergranular corrosion (IGC) in as-deformed state. However, after 7 days of sensitization at 100 and 150 degrees C, cold rolled material became IGC sensitive, while ARB specimens stayed IGC resistant. IGC susceptibility can be correlated with different morphology and distribution of -phase (Mg2Al3) precipitated during sensitization. It was found that extensive shear banding contributed a favorable distribution of -phase precipitates in the structure of IGC resistant ARB processed specimens. In case of IGC susceptible conventionally cold rolled specimens, large amount of -phase precipitated preferentially along the elongated grain boundaries. Electrochemical parameters were in a good correlation with the results of NAML tests, which in turn, confirmed the superiority of ARB multilayered structure over conventional cold rolled structure in terms of IGC susceptibility and corrosion stability.

AB - The influence of alloying on the mechanical properties of AA5083 type Al-Mg
alloy sheets produced by accumulative roll bonding (ARB) process was studied.
Two investigated Al-Mg alloys: commercial AA5083 alloy with 4.2% Mg, and modified AA5083 alloy with 5.1% Mg and addition of 0.5% Zn, were supplied by ImpolSeval Aluminium Mill (Sevojno, Serbia) as hot rolled thick plates. Hot rolled plates
were further laboratory cold rolled up to 1 mm in thickness, and ARB processed at
room temperature with ~ 50% reduction per each ARB cycle. It was possible to
conduct up to maximum 6 ARB cycles for a commercial AA5083 alloy and 4 ARB
cycles for modified AA5083 alloy.
Hardness and tensile properties of ARB processed multilayered sheets were
significantly improved with Mg and Zn addition. In the initial annealed state, before
ARB processing, yield strength of the modified AA5083 alloy was only 15-20 MPa
higher than for a commercial AA5083 alloy. However, flow stress level and tensile
strength became higher for nearly 100 MPa after each ARB cycle for the modified
AA5083 alloy in comparison with standard AA5083 alloy. The elongation decrease
value was high after the first ARB cycle, while after subsequent passes it stayed
almost constant, and slightly improved with Mg and Zn addition. Resistivity level
was also affected by chemical composition of the tested alloys. Higher resistivity
level obtained for the modified AA5083 alloy was attributed to higher Mg content
and addition of Zn.
Despite the fact that addition of Mg and Zn limited the possibility of joining
through ARB processing, mechanical properties of the modified AA5083 alloy were
superior over a commercial AA5083 alloy.

AB - High-strength Al-Mg alloys have a propensity toward hot fracture and failure by alligatoring during hot rolling. In this study the effect of homogenization conditions on the susceptibility of an Al-5.1Mg-0.7Mn alloy toward alligatoring was investigated. It was found that the plates homogenized in a temperature range of 460-520 degrees C were prone toward alligatoring, but once homogenized at 550 degrees C they were not prone toward it any longer. The characterization of the fracture showed a predominance of the intergranular ductile fracture, but the type of the constitutive particles filling the voids changed with the homogenization regime. Grain decohesion and grain-boundary embrittlement show that certain thermal treatments resulted in a microstructure that promoted slip localization.

AB - Influence of annealing temperature on beta-(Al3Mg2) phase precipitation and corrosion properties of sensitised Al-6.8wt% Mg alloy is investigated. Sensitisation of specimens annealed at 320 degrees C results in IGC and SCC susceptibility. Microstructural characterization shows fine precipitation of Mg-rich phase forming nearly continuous film at grain boundaries, despite small precipitated fraction (0.5%), and grain boundary faceting. Sensitised specimens annealed at 265 degrees C are IGC susceptible, but SCC resistant. Precipitation at grain boundaries is discrete, although the precipitated fraction is greater (3%) than in specimens annealed at 320 degrees C. Potentiodynamic measurements show that of all measured parameters, charge density is in the strongest correlation with the NAMLT and SSRT results.

AB - Microstructural changes of DC-cast 5xxx series AI-Mg-Mn alloy modified with Zn addition occurring during the homogenization treatments were studied through the thickness of a rolling ingot. The homogenization treatments included: low temperature annealing at 430 degrees C for 12h and high temperature homogenization at 550 degrees C for 16h. Microstructure evolution was followed by electrical resistivity measurements, optical microscopy, SEM and TEM characterization and microanalysis. During the homogenization, decomposition of the supersaturated solid solution, present in the as-cast state, occurred. Distribution of the precipitates was dictated by segregations and could be related to the partition coefficients of alloying elements. It was found that during the high temperature homogenization not only dissolution processes occurred, but also precipitation of new phases.

AB - In this study the influence of the microstructure of Al-5.1Mg-0.7Mn alloy on the propensity towards an alligatoring failure was evaluated. The morphology of the constituent particles appears to be the key factor, with dissolution and fragmentation of fibrous Mg-Si-Sr and transformation of the Al-6(Fe,Mn) into more compact shapes taking place at homogenization temperatures above 520 degrees C, contributing to improved ductility and diminished propensity towards alligatoring. Homogenization at temperatures below 500 degrees C gave rise to a non-uniform precipitation of the dispersoids. Such a microstructure favored localized slip that induced stress concentration at the grain boundaries and triggered grain boundary embrittlement.

AB - Intergranular corrosion (IGC) susceptibility of an AA5083 Al-Mg alloy sheets,
highly deformed by accumulative roll-bonding (ARB), was investigated. It was
shown that ARB processed specimens were resistant to IGC as the mass loss was
<15 mg/cm2. The degree of plastic strain during ARB processing did not affect IGC
susceptibility and a value of corrosion potential. After sensitization treatment at
150°C, ARB processed specimens stayed resistant to IGC, in spite of β-phase
precipitation along grain boundaries and within the structure. A high degree of
deformation achieved by ARB processing, and a large amount of β-phase
precipitated during the sensitization, did not cause an increase in IGC susceptibility
due to favorable morphology and a distribution of β-phase in the structure.
