AB - The function of immune complexes in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is related to their composition and size. Using dynamic light scattering (DLS), we investigated the link between the RA circulating immune complex (CIC) particles’ size and the CIC immunoglobulin level. In this study, 30 RA patients and 30 healthy individuals were included. IgA, IgG, and IgM were found in all analyzed CICs, but more IgA and IgG were found in RA than in control CICs. In both control and RA CICs, DLS detected 50 particles that differed in size and clustered around two size groups: with a 7.5–164 nm radius and with a 342–1718 nm radius. An increased level of IgA in RA CICs, compared to control ones, was associated with more than 50% of CIC particles. In RA, compared to the control, a higher number of CICs with 28.2 nm, 531 nm, 712 nm, and 1718 nm particles and a lower number of CICs with 78.8 nm particles were detected. This particle distribution pattern did not reflect the changes in the CIC immunoglobulin level. Thus, RA elevated CIC IgA was linked with all these particles (except the 1718 nm particle), the IgM increase was linked with 43.8 nm and 712 nm particles, and the IgG increase was linked with the 712 nm particle only. This study provides the very first data on the association between CIC particles’ size, CIC immunoglobulin level, and RA. It opens the possibility that the size of CICs determined by DLS can be used as a criterion in RA diagnosis or monitoring after a large-scale study confirmation.

AB - U ovom radu je ispitana akutna toksičnost rastvora baznih boja C.I. Basic Yellow 28 i C.I. Basic
Basic Red 46. Posle tri sata sorpcije na netkanom
materijalu obrađenom vodonik peroksidom, toksičnost rastvora boje C.I. Basic Yellow 28 se
neznatno smanjila, dok je rastvor boje C.I. Basic Red 46 postao netoksičan.
AB - The aim of this study was to determine the acute toxicity of basic dyes C.I. Basic Yellow 28 and
C.I. Basic Red 46 solutions before and after the sorption on recycled wool-based nonwoven
material, which was treated by hydrogen peroxide. The acute toxicity of dyes was evaluated using
a ToxAlert® 100 biological test, which is based on inhibition of the bioluminescence of bacteria
Vibrio fischeri. The percent of inhibition (%I) before and after the sorption, 50% effective
concentration (EC50) and toxicity units (TU) were determined. The percent of inhibition, EC50 and
TU values showed that C.I. Basic Yellow 28 was considerably more toxic than C.I. Basic Red 46.
After 3 h of sorption onto the hydrogen peroxide treated material, the toxicity of C.I. Basic Yellow
28 solution slightly decreased, whereas C.I. Basic Red 46 solution became nontoxic.

AB - U ovom radu je ispitana mogućnost primene netkanog materijala na bazi vune kao sekundarne
sirovine za uklanjanje baznih boja C.I. Basic Yellow 28 i C.I. Basic Red 46 iz vode. U cilju
Povećanje početne koncentracije boje i pH pozitivno utiču
na sorpciju baznih boja na materijalu.
AB - The aim of this study was to investigate the potential use of recycled wool-based nonwoven
material for removal of basic dyes C.I. Basic Yellow 28 and C.I. Basic Red 46 from water. To
improve the sorption properties, the material was treated with biopolymer chitosan and hydrogen
peroxide. The sorption kinetics and the influence of initial dye concentration and pH on the
sorption capacity of the material were studied.
The results indicated that recycled wool-based nonwoven material can be used as an efficient
sorbent for removal of investigated basic dyes. Hydrogen peroxide treatment considerably
improved the sorption properties of the material for both dyes. The chitosan treated material
showed similar sorption behaviour to that of the untreated material. The increase of initial dye
concentration and pH positively affected the sorption of basic dyes.

AB - In this study, antimicrobial efficiency and its laundering durability on cotton and polyester fabrics loaded with colloidal Ag nanoparticles was evaluated. The influence of the presence of Ag nanoparticles on the color change of dyed fabrics and the influence of dyeing on antimicrobial efficiency of Ag loaded fabrics was determined. Despite the low content of Ag nanoparticles detected in the cotton and polyester fabrics, the extraordinary antibacterial and antifungal efficiency was obtained. Ag loaded cotton fabrics exhibited significantly better laundering durability compared to polyester fabrics. In both cases, the color of dyed fabrics was affected by the Ag loading.

AB - The aim of this study was to investigate the potential utilities of recycled wool-based nonwoven material for removal of different kinds of oil from water. Sorption capacities of the material in water, oil retention, sorbent reusability and buoyancy in static and dynamic conditions were determined. It was found that wool even as a recycled material efficiently adsorbs oil (crude oil, diesel fuel, base oil SN150, motor oil GLX SAE 15W-40, vegetable oil) showing excellent buoyancy after 24 h. Sorbent also exhibited good reusability since even after five sorption cycles in oil medium without water, the decrease in sorption capacity did not exceed the 50% of initial value.
