AB - In this work new green corrosion inhibitors based on the synthesized cerium-cysteine complex on AA7049 aluminum alloy were analyzed and compared to the mixture of CeCl3 and cysteine in 0.1 M NaCl. The complex structures were confirmed by FTIR, NMR and Elemental Analysis. It was shown that cerium was present in two oxidation states, CeIII and CeIV, when the mixture was analyzed, while there was only a CeIV oxidation state in the cerium-cysteine complex. The mechanisms of inhibitory action of the joint effect of CeCl3 and cysteine vs. their complex were proposed and analyzed in more detail.

AB - The influence of different types of conversion phosphate coatings on the corrosion stability of top powder polyester coating on steel was investigated. The morphology of phosphate coatings was investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), composition by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and surface coverage by voltametric anodic dissolution (VAD) technique. The corrosion stability of polyester coating on steel pretreated by phosphate coatings was investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). It was shown that small crystal nuclei of iron-phosphate coating have sporadically emerged on the steel substrate while zinc-phosphate coating had more compact structure with better surface coverage. After prolonged exposure, there was a significant decrease in Rp values for polyester/zinc-phosphate protective system, as a result of the disbondment of polyester coating, while Rp values for polyester coating on steel pretreated with iron-phosphate coating remained almost unchanged, pointing to a greater stability of this protective system.

AB - The paper describes structural changes in the welded joints, leading to the emergence of intergranular corrosion (IGC) during exploitation. The occurrence of intergranular corrosion in welded joints of austenitic, ferritic and duplex stainless steels and in welded joints of aluminium alloys and nickel alloys is analysed. Special attention was paid to austenitic stainless steels, due to their wide application in practice. In addition to sensitization in the weld heat-affected zone (HAZ), which results in degradation of the welded joint (“weld decay”), also considered is the sensitization that occurs close to the weld metal in the stabilized steel, which leads to a “knife line attack”. Considerable attention is devoted to describing the various procedures in order to prevent the sensitization of the welded joints.

AB - This paper analyzed the conditions for the occurrence of cor-
rosion processes on historically important weapons and military
equipment made of steel during the period in outdoor environment.
A considerable attention has been given to the characteristics of
the most important corrosion products formed on the steel surface.
The formation of akaganite, -FeOOH is a sign of active corrosion
under a layer of corrosion products. The conditions that cause the
formation and regeneration of hydrochloric and sulphuric acid du-
ring the exposure to the elements were analyzed. The most often
applied methods of diagnostics and procedures of removing active
corrosion anions (desalination) were described as well. The NaOH
solution of certain pH values still has the most important applica-
tion for the desalination process. The procedures for cleaning the
surface before the application of protective coatings and the appli-
cation of chemicals that transform rust into stable compounds we-
re discussed. As protective coatings, different types of organic co-
atings plated on well-prepared steel surfaces were used and so-
metimes special types of waxes as well. This paper presents the
results of the tests of corrosion products taken from the exhibits of
weapons and military equipment from the Military Museum in Bel-
grade.

AB - The variation of factors such as the amount of alloying elements in solid solution, thermal and
thermo-mechanical treatments changes the corrosion tendency in the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy. The measurements of
electrical conductivity enabled the estimation of the structural state of the alloy, i.e. the type and the degree of
precipitation. The corrosion behaviour was examined through three electrochemical methods(Ecorr., polarization
measurements, EIS).The measurement of corrosion potentials (Ecorr.) gave information about the distribution of
the alloying elements between the solid solution and the precipitation phases. The polarization measurements
have shown a more positive value of pitting potential (Epit.) and a greater resistance to corrosionfor the two-step
aged alloy. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) has also shown that the two-step aged alloy has
better corrosion propertiescompared to the one-step aged alloy. The fracture mechanics (FM) method wasused for
SCC testing and hasshown that the alloy after two-step precipitation hardening is significantly more resistant to
SCC. The obtained results enable a greaterinsight into the effects of both heat treatment and alloying elements,
primarily copper, on the corrosion resistance of the alloy.

precipitation.
The fracture mechanics (FM) method wasused for
SCC testing and hasshown that the alloy after two-step precipitation hardening is significantly more resistant to
SCC. The obtained results enable a greaterinsight into the effects of both heat treatment and alloying elements,
primarily copper, on the corrosion resistance of the alloy.",

AB - Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) was tested in a high strength 7000 series aluminium alloy applied for
weapons and military equipment. The effect of one step- and two-step precipitation hardening (aging) on SCC was
investigated. The slow strain rate test (SSRT) and the fracture mechanics (FM) method were used for SCC testing. The
measurements of electrical resistivity allowed evaluating an aging degree in the tested alloy. Both testing methods have
shown that the alloy after two-step precipitation hardening is significantly more resistant to SCC. The critical stress
intensity factor for SCC, KISCC is significantly higher, and the crack growth rate on the plateau, vpl is more than one
order of magnitude lower for the alloy in this state. Processes that take place at the crack tip are proposed and the
effect of copper was analyzed. The effect of the testing solution (NaCl) temperature on the vpl was determined. Two
values of the apparent activation energy, Ea, were obtained; one value (46.6 kJ mol-1) refers to higher temperatures,
while the other (70.4 kJ mol-1) refers to lower test temperatures. These values of Ea correspond to the different
processes that control the vpl, at higher and lower temperatures.

Serbia. In the corrosion products of the artefact, the dominant phases were goethite (α-
FeO(OH)) and magnetite (Fe3O4) whose presence explains a good preservation of the base
metal, iron, over the centuries and the artefact stability after excavation. Besides goethite and
magnetite, the corrosion products were identified to contain, to a lesser extent, less stable
lepidocrocite (γ-FeO(OH)) and the phases that come from the rocks and soil from the
surrounding environment (plagioclase). The phases containing chloride ions were not detected
in the corrosion products (akaganéite, β-Fe8O8(OH)8Cl1.35), which indirectly indicates that the
content of chloride ions was not significant in the underground exploitation conditions. The
lack of chloride ions also contributed to the corrosion stability of the artefact during the period
after excavation.

AB - A degree of preservation of iron artefacts depends on the type of underground environment and the type of
corrosion products formed on their surface. This paper analyses the conditions of an archaeological artefact made of iron,
which was found to originate from the Roman period. The iron corrosion products, goethite, lepidocrocite and magnetite
(determined by the X-ray diffraction method) have been noticed in the corrosion products of the artefact. The ion
chromatography analysis has revealed chloride and sulphate anions, pointing to the necessity of having artefacts treated in
adequate solutions immediately after their excavation. It has been found that the EDTA solution is very efficient in the
process of desalination of the artefact. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of the corrosion product types
and the effects of applying the EDTA solution, otherwise not commonly used for desalination of iron objects. This method
was applied here due to the complex structures of the found archaeological artefacts and the presence of copper alloys
besides iron. The aim of this paper is to determine the type of influence corrosion products have on an artefact and to
determine the effect of desalination treatment.

This paper presents the
results of the tests of corrosion products taken from the exhibits of
weapons and military equipment from the Military Museum in Bel-
grade.

formation and regeneration of hydrochloric and sulphuric acid du-
ring the exposure to the elements were analyzed.
This paper presents the
results of the tests of corrosion products taken from the exhibits of
weapons and military equipment from the Military Museum in Bel-
grade.",

AB - One artefact of the archaeological cultural heritage from Roman period (IV century) that was
found near Šabac in Serbia, was analysed. In corrosion products of the artefact (knife),
dominant phases were goethite (α-FeOOH) and magnetite (Fe3O4). Presence of these types
of corrosion products explains a good preservation of the base metal (iron) over the centuries
and stability after excavation. Also, the less stable lepidocrocite (γ-FeOOH) and the phases
that come from rocks and land surrounding environment (like SiO2) were identified in the
corrosion products. Phases containing chloride ions (i.e. akaganéite) have not been detected
in the corrosion products. This indirectly indicates that the amount chloride ions were rather
low in underground exploitation conditions.

AB - As-received floating-head heat exchanger bolts were broken (BB) and deposite-coated. The aim was to estimate
a cause of their failure. The new bolts of the same material were used as a reference material (reference bolt –
RB). After visual and radiographic examination, their chemical composition, structure and room-temperature
mechanical properties were determined and compared. Comparison was made with the values set by standard,
as well. Afterwards, fractography was performed on fractured surfaces of tensile specimens and originally
(during exploitation) BBs to try to get an impression about bolts failure mechanism. Qualitative analysis of
deposite was employed in order to confirm was there any possible influence of surroundings during their failure
in terms of corrosion-assisted cracking. Chemical composition of RB and BB materials was analyzed by use of
spectrophotometry and structure properties with light optical microscope (LOM). Fractured surfaces of tensile
specimens and of BBs, as well as deposite chemistry, were analyzed by use of Scanning Electron Microscopy
with Energy Dispersive System (SEM-EDS). BBs had an approximately three times higher sulphur content and
lesser manganese content, lower ductility and higher strength values comparing to those of the RBs. Generally,
fracture surfaces of both, RB and BB tensile specimens have a similar rosette-like macro-appearance. The only
difference is that the radial marks in the case of the RBs are rougher. The surface has a more fibrous area and
shear lip presence. Fracture mode can be characterized as dimple rupture and micromechanism as microvoid
coalescence. In the case of BB tensile specimens, the mixed presence of dimples and cleavage facets was
noticed. The macrofractography of originally broken surfaces shows a rough and complex topography of
fracture surfaces indicating on a possibility that bolts failure has been a result of complex loading conditions.
Presence of sulphur- and chlorine-containing particles on the fracture surfaces of BBs and in deposite reveals a
possibility that failure was environmentally-assisted.

AB - Sensitization degree of the austenitic stainless steel welded joints was investigated by
electrochemical methods: the double loop electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation (DL EPR) in H2SO4 +
KSCN solution and by of the corrosion potentials measurement of the steel in the solution drop of HNO3 +
FeCl3 6H2O + HCl. The welded joints, by an X-ray radiographic method on possible presence of the weld
defects, were tested. Grain size of the base metal and the welded joints, by applying an optical microscopy
were determined. The existence of compatibility between the results for different electrochemical methods is
shown. Heat affected zone (HAZ) of the austenitic stainless steel welded joints has shown significant degree
of sensitization. The corrosion potentials measurement method is simple, nondestructive method, that gives
qualitative informations about degree of the sensitizations of the stainless steel. The double loop
electrochemical potentiokinetic method gives quantitative evidence about susceptibility of the stainless steel
to intergranular corrosion. This method can be applied with some adaptation in field environments.

AB - The ageing behavior of an Al-4.6Mg-0.54Cu (in wt.%) alloy was studied after: (i) solution
treatment for 1h at 530°C, and (ii) annealing at 280°C for 3h. Both groups of the heat treated
specimens underwent further thermo-mechanical processing: 5% pre-deformation in tension +
artificial ageing at various temperatures: 140°, 160° and 180°C for 30 min. Effect of the thermomechanical
processing on the microstructure and mechanical properties was investigated by tensile
testing and electrical resistivity measurements.
Solutionizing at 530°C resulted in higher resistivity level indicating that the most of solute
atoms are retained in the solid solution. This provides great potential for precipitation hardening in
a wide range of ageing temperatures. On the other hand, it appears that most of the main alloying
elements precipitated during the annealing at 280°C thus diminishing the ageing potential. After
further thermo-mechanical processing, the specimens annealed at 280°C showed significantly lower
strength level than once solutionized at 530°C.
