AB - Although the use of municipal solid waste to generate energy can decrease dependency on fossil fuels and consequently reduces greenhouse gases emissions and areas that waste occupies, in many countries municipal solid waste is not recognized as a valuable resource and possible alternative fuel. The aim of this study is to develop a model for the prediction of primary energy production from municipal solid waste in the European countries and then to apply it to the Balkan countries in order to assess their potentials in that field. For this purpose, general regression neural network architecture was applied, and correlation and sensitivity analyses were used for optimisation of the model. The data for 16 countries from the European Union and Norway for the period 2006-2015 was used for the development of the model. The model with the best performance (coefficient of determination R-2 = 0.995 and the mean absolute percentage error MAPE = 7.757%) was applied to the data for the Balkan countries from 2006 to 2015. The obtained results indicate that there is a significant potential for utilization of municipal solid waste for energy production, which should lead to substantial savings of fossil fuels, primarily lignite which is the most common fossil fuel in the Balkans.

AB - In this study, electrospinning combined with sol-gel technique is applied in order to produce magnetic nickel ferrite (Ni-ferrite) nanofibers. The prepared Ni-ferrite gel was mixed with poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) solution which was used as a spinning aid to enable spinnability of the mixture. Structural and morphological characteristics of the asspun ferrite gel/PVP composite web structure and calcinated Ni-ferrite nanofibers were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Phase composition analysis was carried out by Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-Ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and Fe-57 Mossbauer spectroscopy (MS). The obtained results suggest that the pure nanocrystalline NiFe2O4 dense mat to the almost coral-like structure of fibers with diameters ranging from hundreds of nanometers to few micrometers was obtained. The results of MS analysis revealed the existence of a crystallite size distribution within the material as well as the existence of a superparamagnetic fraction with very small crystallite sizes ( lt 13nm). Magnetic behavior of the obtained material at elevated temperatures was also scrutinized using thermomagnetic measurements (TM) up to 800 degrees C.

AB - In this study the novel biosorbent - raw corn silk (CS) was investigated for Cu2+ and Zn2+ removal from aqueous solutions. The physical and chemical properties of CS were determined by SEM - EDX and ATR - FTIR techniques. The SEM micrographs revealed that surface morphology of CS is suitable for metal adsorption, while FTIR analysis confirmed presence of various active groups (O-H, C-O, C-O C, C=C and amide II) which could interact with metal ions. The adsorption experiments were performed in batch system. Experimental data were fitted by pseudo - first order and pseudo - second order kinetic models as well as Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. Biosorption of the both metals follow pseudo second order kinetic model. The best fitting adsorption model is Langmuir model and the maximum biosorption capacities (q(max)) for Cu2+ and Zn2+ at 313 K and pH 5.0 were 15.35 mg g(-1) and 13.98 mg g(-1), respectively. The thermodynamic parameters such as Gibbs free energy change (Delta G), enthalpy change (Delta H) and entropy change (Delta S) were studied at different metal concentration and three temperatures. According to thermodynamic study, the biosorption process for both metals is feasible, endothermic and spontaneous. According to thermodynamic study, the biosorption process for both metals is feasible, endothermic and spontaneous. Ion - exchange is the dominant mechanism in adsorption of Cu2+ and Zn2+ on the CS with a certain degree of complexation. Desorption study was performed in three adsorption/desorption cycles with diluted nitric acid. Results show that after metal adsorption CS can be efficiently recovered and reused for new adsorption process. Obtained results indicated that corn silk could be used as efficient novel biosorbent for Cu2+ and Zn2+ removal from water samples.

AB - Nano-crystalline nickel ferrite has a broad range of applications due to its favourable magnetic properties. Those characteristics can be significantly influenced by the synthesis pathway including methods conducted in the presence of supercritical alcohols. Nano-crystalline NiFe2O4 powders were obtained in the reaction under subcritical and supercritical conditions of ethanol. Both high pressure synthesis routes resulted in powders with smaller primary particles and higher mesoporosity than co-precipitation method. Upon the annealing treatment the average crystallite size increased while material structure remained uniform, resulting in significantly enhanced magnetic properties, such as coercivity and remanence. It was found that synthesis under supercritical conditions provides higher conversion but also material with larger average crystallite size upon annealing. The time and temperature of annealing stage significantly influenced the morphology and magnetic properties of the obtained powders.

AB - Primary goal of the investigation carried out within this doctoral thesis was to assess the possibility to synthesize nano-crystalline powder of nickel-ferrite using novel reaction routes based on cheap and easily available chemical compounds, which are if possible easy to perform. Based on the results of the conducted survey on the synthesis of nano-crystalline metal oxide powders in previously published research results and theory behind the synthesis of nanomaterials two possible paths for further investigation were identified. According to the survey in many precipitation routes and soft mould techniques expensive surfactant compounds based on organic macromolecules are used as capping and dispersion agents. Therefore an assumption was made that for such purpose a natural and easily available polymer such as soluble starch could be used. Also, it was noticed that so far supercritical fluids have not been used as much as they could have be used in the synthesis of metal oxides. Nickel-ferrite has been synthesized either from very rare and expensive organic precursors or from cheap nitrates but under severe reaction conditions. An assumption was made that synthesis of nickel-ferrite could be carried out in somewhat milder reaction conditions from nitrates in solution of primary alcoholin supercritical conditions. On these preliminary hypotheses two new synthesis methods have been defined based on starch micro-emulsion and supercritical ethanol. Validity of starting hypotheses and characteristics of proposed methods were verified and determined in experimental part of the research...

AB - Livestock farming is a significant part of agricultural market in Serbia. However, a descending trend of livestock species has been recorded recently, despite its potential for meat export. Application of new technologies could improve competitiveness of livestock farming. In this paper, energy efficient energy supply technologies and potentials for their application in livestock farms have been analyzed. A methodology for pinpointing profitable energy supply options which also provides significant energy and CO2 savings has been proposed. A case study of a pig farm was used to perform an energy balance and allocation of energy supply costs. Potentials for application of energy supply technologies based on local resources have been estimated in the study. The effects of integration of proposed technologies were also estimated. The suggested methodology was used to analyze the feasibility of proposed energy supply options. Investment in a biogas cogeneration plant showed best profitability. An integrated option which envisages the application of heat pump for heat supply and photovoltaic solar collectors for production of electricity showed best energetic and environmental performance while managing to maintain financial feasibility.
Sagledani su i efekti primene integrisanih tehnoloških rešenja.Upotrebom predložene metodologije, izvršena je analiza finansijske izvodljivosti predloženih opcija snabdevanja energijom. Investicija u biogasno kogeneraciono postrojenje je pokazala najveće parametre profitabilnosti. Integrisano rešenje gde se za snabdevanje toplotom koristi toplotna pumpa, a za proizvodnju električne energije sistem fotonaponskih solarnih prijemnika, je pokazalo najbolje energetske i ekološke efekte i finansijsku rentabilnost.

AB - In this paper, an overview of data collected during monitoring of lead content in atmospheric precipitation on GAW/EMEP (Global Atmosphere Watch/European Monitoring and Evaluation Programme) station "KameniCKI Vis", Serbia from 2000 to 2010 is given. Annual arithmetic mean concentrations, weighted arithmetic mean concentrations, and median of week samples are presented. Obtained data was compared with results of analysis of atmospheric precipitation collected on experimental EMEP station "Zeleno brdo", Serbia and discussed in the scope of European average levels of lead content in precipitation and air. Significant increase of average annual lead content in precipitation was observed in 2003 and 2007. The observed peaks cannot be seen on average European trends, thus leading to the conclusion that the recorded increases are characteristic for the local region. In order to further discuss the nature and direction of possible sources of detected lead pollution, a short analysis of lead emission data was performed. An effort was made to gather data from the countries that lay in directions from which dominant winds blow, as well as for Serbia. For this purpose, total national emissions from LRTAP Convention emission inventory report and EMEP emission inventory were used, as well as data published by relevant national authorities. According to these emission levels, the majority of the surrounding countries couldn't have contributed much to the recorded increases of lead content in precipitation. However, several possible sources were revealed. In all studied countries, emission levels steadily dropped during the analyzed period, whereas only for Serbia a different trend was observed. The presented data leads to the conclusion that the recorded increase of lead content in precipitation in 2003 probably originates from trans-boundary contributions, while increases in 2007 and onwards may come from Serbia's own emissions.
