AB  - We report on thin film deposition by matrix-assisted pulsed laser evaporation of simple hydroxyapatite (HA) or silver (Ag) doped HA combined with the natural biopolymer organosolv lignin (Lig) (Ag:HA-Lig). Solid cryogenic target of aqueous dispersions of Ag:HA-Lig composite and its counterpart without silver (HA-Lig) were prepared for evaporation using a KrF* excimer laser source. The expulsed material was assembled onto TiO2/Ti substrata or silicon wafers and subjected to physical-chemical investigations. Smooth, uniform films adherent to substratum were observed. The chemical analyses confirmed the presence of the HA components, but also evidenced traces of Ag and Lig. Deposited HA was Ca deficient, which is indicative of a film with increased solubility. Recorded X-ray Diffraction patterns were characteristic for amorphous films. Lig presence in thin films was undoubtedly proved by both X-ray Photoelectron and Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy analyses. The microbiological evaluation showed that the newly assembled surfaces exhibited an inhibitory activity both on the initial steps of biofilm forming, and on mature bacterial and fungal biofilm development. The intensity of the antibiofilm activity was positively influenced by the presence of the Lig and/or Ag, in the case of Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida famata biofilms. The obtained surfaces exhibited a low cytotoxicity toward human mesenchymal stem cells, being therefore promising candidates for fabricating implantable biomaterials with increased biocompatibility and resistance to microbial colonization and further biofilm development.

Electrophoretic deposition and thermal treatment of boehmite coatings on titanium

AB  - An aqueous boehmite sol was prepared by the peptization of Al(OH)3. The electrophoretic deposition of boehmite coatings on titanium from the aqueous sol was performed at a constant voltage (from 1.0 to 10 V) and for a constant deposition time (from 10 to 30 min). Increasing the applied voltage and deposition time increased the mass of the boehmite coating. It was shown that boehmite coatings of maximum thickness, low porosity and good adhesion can be formed at lower deposition voltages and longer deposition times. The boehmite powder, obtained by drying the prepared aqueous sol, and the boehmite coatings were thermally treated at 1000 °C and 1300 °C with a holding period of 1 h at the maximum temperature. X-Ray diffraction analysis of the thermally treated samples confirmed the existence of -Al2O3 and Al2O3 phases, respectively, while scanning electron microscopy revealed the graininess of the structure of the -Al2O3 coatings treated at 1300 °C, indicating a significantly lower sintering temperature of the boehmite coating obtained by electrophoretic deposition.
AB  - Vodeni sol bemita je pripremljen peptizacijom Al(OH) 3 . Elektroforetsko taloženje prevlaka bemita iz vodenog sola vršeno je pri konstantnom naponu 1,0 do 10 V) i za konstantna vremena taloženja (10 do 30 min). Povećanje napona i produžavanje vremena taloženja dovodi do porasta mase prevlake. Pokazano je da se prevlake najveće debljine, male poroznosti i dobre adhezije mogu formirati na nižim naponima i pri dužim vremenima taloženja. Rezultati analize difrakcije X-zraka i skenirajuće elektronske mikroskopije su potvrdili da su sinterovanjem praha bemita i prevlake bemita na temperaturama od 1000 °C i 1300 °C dobijeni  -alumijum-oksid i  -aluminijum- oksid, respektivno. To ukazuje na značajno sniženje temperature sinterovanja praha bemita i homogene prevlake bemita dobijene elektroforetskim taloženjem iz sola.

Electrochemical characterization of LiCoO2

AB  - The electrochemical characteristics of LiCoO2 as a positive electrode for lithium-ion batteries, have been investigated. The LiCoO2 were sintetized from Li2CO3 and Co203 by thermal treatment at 1273 K for 24 h in the air. All the electrochemical measurements were performed in 1 mol dm-3 LiClO4 solutions in propylene carbonate. By using the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy at the open circuit potential, the exchange current for different states of charges for Li1-xCoO2 (0,6 lt 1-x lt 0,9), with the values of ~190 do 40mA, have been determined. From the analysis of potentiostatic pulses, the diffusion coefficient of lithium for different states of charges (0.65 lt 1-x lt 0.9), with an average values of (1,7±2)x10-10 cm2s-1 have been determined. .
AB  - U radu su ispitivane elektrohemijske karakteristike LiCoO2 kao pozitivne elektrode litijum-jon akumulatora. LiCoO2 je sintetizovan polazeći od LiCO3 i Co203 termičkim tretmanom na 1273 K u toku 24 sata u atmosferi vazduha. Sva elektrohemijska ispitivanja su obavljena u rastvoru 1 mol dm-3 LiClO4 u propilen-karbonatu. Korišćenjem metode elektrohemijske impedansne spektroskopije u okolini potencijala otvorenog kola, određena je zavisnost gustine struje izmene od stepena napunjenosti Li1-xCoO2 (0,6 lt 1-x lt 0,9), sa vrednošću ~190 do 40mA.
