AB - Hexavalent chromium, Cr(VI), is one of the most notorious pollutants with
health and environmental impacts due to carcinogenic, teratogenic, and mutagenic
effects on the human organism.1 Therefore, treating wastewater containing Cr(VI)
before discharge into the aquatic system is extremely necessary. In this study, the
nonlinear regression method was used to determine the kinetic and isotherm
parameters for Cr(VI) sorption from aqueous solution on hexamethylene diaminemodified 177btain177177ous copolymer based on glycidyl methacrylate (PGEHMD).2 The Avrami kinetic model provides the best correlation of the experimental
data with R
2 = 0.994 and χ
2 = 0.004, while the Freundlich isotherm model best
described the Cr(VI) sorption onto PGE-HMD copolymer indicating a heterogenous
sorption process.

AB - Vanadium and its compounds have multiple applications in industry, such as in alloys to increase strength and as a catalyst. Vanadium(V) is the dominant form in the aquatic environment and also, it is the most hazardous product which can cause an environmental problem due to its high solubility and toxicity. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible use of a novel magnetic polymer/bentonite composite prepared by suspension copolymerization of glycidy. methacrylate (GMA) and ethylene alyco. dimethacrylate (EGDMA) and functionalize with ethylene diamine and hexamethylene diamine (MB-PSME-ED and MB-PGME-HD), for V(V) sorption from

aqueous solution. The influence of contact time on V(V) sorption onto MB-PGME-ED and MB-PGME-HD was investigated. All sorption experiments were performed in batch static conditions, at pH 7.6 and room temperature (298 K). Maximum sorption capacities, Qmax, were 2.47 mg/g and 1.94 mg/g for MB-PGME-ED and MB-PGME-HD, respectively. Surface-reaction (pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order and Elovich) and particle diffusion based (intra-particle diffusion, liquid film diffusivity model, Bangham, Boyd and McKay's) kinetic models were used for analysis of V(V) sorption kinetic data. Both sorbents obeyed the pseudo-second order kinetic model, with evident influence of pore diffusion. Desorption experiments of V(V) loaded MB-PGME-ED and MB-PGME HD performed with 0.1 M NaOH and 0.1 M HNO3 showed that NaCH is a better stripping agent for V(V) ion within both samples.

AB - This work was focused on the synthesis of polyurethane networks (PUNs) based on polycaprolactone (PCL) as soft segment (SS) and Boltorn (R) aliphatic hyperbranched polyester of the second pseudo generation and 4,4 '-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) as the parts of the hard segments (HS), by a two-step solution polymerization. In order to find the best ratio between HS and SS to achieve good thermal and mechanical properties, suitable hydrophobicity and morphology of the PUNs, various experimental analyses were conducted. The obtained results revealed that features of the PUNs highly depend on the PCL content. The increase in the PCL content leads to the increase in thermal stability, hydrophobicity and appearance of the microphase separation, but on the other side, it also leads to the decrease in storage modulus in the rubbery plateau, crosslinking density and glass transition temperatures of PUNs. This work shows that features of PUNs can be easily adjusted for a specific application by careful selection of the SS and HS ratio.

AB - A series of environmentally friendly polyurethane (PU) networks based on polycaprolactone as soft segment (SS) and Boltorn (R) aliphatic hyperbranched polyester of the second pseudo generation as crosslinking agent was prepared by a two-step polymerization in solution. The chemical structure of the PU networks was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, while XRD analysis revealed that these samples are amorphous. Swelling measurements, water absorption study, dynamic mechanical analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, mechanical tests and scanning electron microscope revealed that, swelling behavior, hydrophobicity, thermal and mechanical features and morphology of PU networks show clear dependence on polycaprolactone content. The increase of the SS content induced appearance of the microphase separated morphology, increase of thermal stability, elongation at break, hydrophobicity and swelling ability in tetrahydrofuran and toluene, but at the same time it is responsible for the decrease of crosslinking density, glass transition temperatures, rigidity, tensile strength and Young's modulus of PU networks. Scanning electron microscope images of the fracture surfaces of PU networks show that their surface is rough, irregular, with flake-like structure, where size of flakes increases with increasing SS content. These results indicate that by choosing adequate SS content, PU coatings with diverse features based on polycaprolactone and Boltorn (R) aliphatic hyperbranched polyester can be designed for appropriate and desired application.

dimethacrylate) [mPGME-deta] at 298 K and pH=4.0 were investigated. It
was shown that Mo(VI) and Re(VII) sorption obeys the pseudo-second-order
model with evident influence of pore diffusion. The maximum sorption
capacity of 60 mg/g for Mo(VI) and 47 mg/g for Re(VII) were observed.
Thermodynamic studies implied an endothermic and spontaneous process in
nature.",

AB - Macroporous copolymers of poly[(glycidyl methacrylate)-co-(ethylene glycol dimethacrylate)] (PGME) with various crosslinker (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) concentrations and porosity parameters and additionally functionalized with hexamethylene diamine (PGME-HD) were tested as potential Cr(VI) oxyanion sorbents from aqueous solutions. Kinetics of Cr(VI) sorption was investigated in the temperature range 298-343 K and the results were fitted to chemical reaction and particle diffusion models. The Cr(VI) sorption obeys the pseudo-second-order model with definite influence of pore diffusion. A temperature rise promotes chromium removal, with a maximum experimental uptake capacity of 4.21 mmol g(-1) at 343 K for the sample with the highest amino group concentration. Equilibrium data were analysed with Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin adsorption isotherm models. Thermodynamic parameters, i.e. Gibbs free energy (G(0)), enthalpy (H-0) and entropy change (S-0) and activation energy of sorption (E-a), were calculated. The Cr(VI) adsorption onto PGME-HD was found to be spontaneous and endothermic, with increased randomness in the system. Desorption experiments show that chromium anion sorption was reversible and the PGME-HD sample GMA 60 HD was easily regenerated with 0.1 mol L-1 NaOH up to 90% recovery in the fourth sorption/desorption cycle. In the fifth cycle, a substantial sorption loss of 37% was observed.

AB - In this study, the synthesis, structure and physical properties of two series of thermoplastic polyurethanes based on hydroxypropyl-terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane) (HP-PDMS) or hydroxyethoxypropyl-terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane) (EO-PDMS) as soft segments, and 4,4'-methylenediphenyl diisocyanate and 1,4-butanediol as hard segments were investigated. The polyurethanes were synthesized by two-step polyaddition in solution. The effects of the type and content of PDMS segments on the structure, thermal and surface properties of copolymers were studied by H-1-, C-13-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopies (heteronuclear multiple bond correlation (HMBC) and rotating-frame nuclear Overhauser effect (ROESY)), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and water contact angle and water absorption measurements. Thermal properties investigated by DSC indicated that the presence of soft PDMS segments lowers the glass transition and melting temperatures of the hard phase as well as the degree of crystallinity. SEM analysis of the copolymers with a lower soft segment content confirmed the presence of spherulite superstructures, which arise from the crystallization of the hard segments. When compared with polyurethanes prepared from HP-PDMS, the copolymers synthesized from EO-PDMS with the same content of the soft segments had a higher degree of crystallinity, better thermal stability and a less hydrophobic surface. The obtained results showed that the synthesized polyurethanes had good thermal and surface properties, which could be further modified by changing the type or content of the soft segments.
