AB - A characterization of glassy carbon (GC) electrodes modified by controlled potential electrolysis of 4-azulen-1-yl-2,6-bis(2-thienyl)pyridine (L) in acetonitrile solutions containing tetra-n-butylammonium perchlorate is presented. The electrochemical properties of bare and modified GC electrodes were investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in acetate buffer solutions. EIS data were fitted using the Zview fitting program and the appropriate equivalent electrical circuit. Small variations in the electrochemical properties of the interface during the steps of preparation of the modified electrodes with polyL films were observed. The EIS parameters of the polyL film have no regular variation with the increase in film thickness, most probably due to significant effect of polyL films porosity.

AB - Electrochemical characteristics, composition and surface morphology of vinyltriethoxysilane (VTES) coatings on aluminum were investigated. The silane coatings were deposited chemically, by immersion in 2 and 5% VTES, and then cured at 100 degrees C during 10 or 30 min. Surface morphology of VTES films was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, while the composition was investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The corrosion stability of silane coatings was determined by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in 0.03% NaCl. The results obtained were compared with the standardized analysis in the salt spray chamber. The percentage of the corroded area was determined by optical microscopy coupled with image analysis. The influence of VTES concentration and curing time on the corrosion stability of silane films on aluminum was shown. The highest corrosion stability was obtained for silane films deposited from 5% VTES solution with 30 min curing, while the lowest stability was determined for silane films deposited from 2% VTES solution with 10 min curing. Surface analysis suggests that the coatings with the highest corrosion stability are related to the intensive siloxane bonding (Si-O-Si), which is favored by deposition from more concentrated VTES solution.

AB - The corrosion protection of vinyltriethoxysilane (VTES) films on aluminium during exposure to 3% NaCl was investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potential-time measurements and optical microscopy coupled with image analysis. Composition and thickness of films were analyzed using Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) combined with depth profiling. It was shown that films deposited from 5% solution were significantly thicker and exhibited lower porosity and better corrosion stability, as compared to films deposited from 2 vol.% solution. VTES films deposited from 5 vol.% solutions and cured for 30 min exhibited better protection properties than other investigated films.

AB - The electrochemical characteristics, adhesion and morphology of methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MAPT) films on aluminium were investigated during exposure to 3 wt.% NaCl. The MAPT films were deposited on aluminium surface from 2 to 5 vol.% methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane solutions, with the aim to investigate the influence of deposition parameters (silane solution concentration and curing time) on electrochemical characteristics, adhesion and morphology of MAPT films on aluminium. Using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potential-time measurements, adhesion measurements and optical microscopy coupled with image analysis, it was shown that films deposited from 5 vol.% solution exhibited better corrosion stability and adhesion, as well as lower porosity comparing to 2 vol.% solution and improved the corrosion protection of aluminium substrate, while the curing time had no influence on these characteristics.
