AB - An optimal laboratory two-step procedure was developed for sodium/potassium O-alkyl carbonodithioate (sodium/potassium alkyl xanthates) production in the form of aqueous solutions. Sodium isopropyl xanthate (Na-iPrX), as the most effective salt in a real ore flotation process, was also produced at an industrial level and introduced as a collector for copper ores. In order to reduce toxicity of the flotation process and improve sustainability by minimising environmental impacts, collector efficiency and selectivity in the flotation process were studied in relation to possible synergism of xanthates combined with the derived biomass and biodegradable green reagents levulinic acid, 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furanacrylic acid (HMFA), and condensation product of hydroxymethylfurfural and levulinic acid. Optimal content of 30% of HMFA in the collector pointed to the possibility of substitution of commercial xanthate collector without significantly affecting its efficiency/selectivity. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations provided insights into the interaction mechanism of Na-iPrX and HMFA with cooper. The benefits of the presented method highlight production simplicity, mild reaction conditions, high purity and yield of products, no by-products, and technological applicability on an industrial scale.

AB - The silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were successfully synthesized by a facile solid-state chemical method. Ag NPs were obtained by a mechanochemical reaction between silver nitrate and sodium citrate, with the constant stirring and heating of reactants. The size and morphology characterization of NPs powder was performed by scanning electron microscopy. The obtained NPs were spherical with a 36 nm average particle size diameter. UV-Vis spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and zeta potential measurements were used in order to characterize the surface plasmon band position in colloid dispersion and the NPs charges. Obtained NPs were utilized as a catalyst in the process of methylene blue (MB) reduction in the presence of sodium-borohydride. Kinetic measurements of uncatalyzed and catalyzed reduction were carried out using the stopped-flow technique, keeping the concentration of reactant constant. Mechanism of MB reduction in the presence of catalyst Ag NPs is elucidated as a consecutive two first-order reactions. The results of these studies support the hypothesis that NPs participated in electron transfer.

AB - The research described in this paper is directed towards the development and application of simultaneous potentiometric stripping analysis for the determination of heavy metals (lead, cadmium and zinc) in the soil of the northern part of the territory of Kosovo and Metohija. The experiments were carried out: I) the module solution (prepared from standard solutions of metal working and deionized water), II) in the soil samples. The selected two types of land: agricultural (location next to the road in the vicinity of industrial areas) and non-agricultural (parks and playgrounds). To that end are analyzed, compared and separated optimum parameters: The working electrode is formed by depositing layer of mercury on glassy carbon with a constant stream of -49.90 µA, pH 1.6 and time deposit with a 240 s from a solution of mercury(II) nitrate. The extracting of metals from solution was performed at pH 2.1 and the potential of -1.400 V. Soil samples are after the drying, homogenisation and sifting translated in solution by dissolving with concentrated nitric and hydrochloric acid. The results of this study revealed are deviations for: lead -4.58%, cadmium -1.91% and zinc -1.89%. Was found that landfills mining Kombinat Trepca have a significant influence on the quality of the soil. Was found that mining landfills of Trepca have a significant influence on the quality of the soil. The highest content of investigated metals were found in soils in the immediate proximity passive and active mining landfills. Content of investigated elements, on almost all measuring places along the road, have had values above the maximum allowable.
