AB - Since additive technologies in dentistry are gradually replacing metal casting technology, it is necessary to evaluate new dental constructions intended for the development of removable partial denture frameworks. The aim of this research was to evaluate the microstructure and mechanical properties of 3D-printed, laser-melted and -sintered Co–Cr alloys, and perform a comparative study with Co–Cr castings for the same dental purposes. The experiments were divided into two groups. The first group consisted of samples produced by conventional casting of the Co–Cr alloy. The second group consisted of 3D-printed, laser-melted and -sintered specimens produced from a Co–Cr alloy powder divided into three subgroups, depending on the technological parameters chosen for manufacturing (angle, location and heat treatment). Examination of the microstructure was carried out by classical metallographic sample preparation, using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis. A structural phase analysis was also performed by XRD. The mechanical properties were determined using a standard tensile test. The microstructure observation showed a dendritic character in the case of castings, while in the case of 3D-printed, laser-melted and -sintered Co–Cr alloys, the microstructure was typical for additive technologies. The XRD phase analysis confirmed the presence of Co–Cr phases (ε and γ). The results of the tensile test showed remarkably higher yield and tensile strength values and slightly lower elongation of the 3D-printed, laser-melted and -sintered samples than those produced by conventional casting.

AB - The subject of this study is the quantitative adhesion of a UV-curing composite film based on Bis-GMA (Bisphenol A glycidylmethacrylate) / TEGDMA (triethylene glycol dimethacrylate) as a matrix and particles doped with ferrous oxide on a metal substrate. Two different metal substrates: silver and gold-spattered brass with nickel intermediate coating were used in adhesion evaluating. Adhesion was measured using micro-identation and it was compared with the measured wetting angle of composites to the substrate. It has been shown that the substrates, although with similar mechanical properties that are reflected in very close hardness values, differ by achieved adhesive bonding with the polymer UV-cured polymer film. The addition of ceramic particles in the polymer matrix increased the adhesion of the composite film to both substrates, but the adhesion trend was dependent on the substrate type.

AB - The objective of this study is to investigate quantitative assessment of the adhesion behavior of composite films onto a metallic surface. The composite films had UV cured Bis-GMA (Bisphenol A glycidylmethacrylate)/TEGDMA (triethylene glycol dimethacrylate) as matrix and ferrous oxide doped alumina (Al2O3 Fe) particles with two surface modifications, (3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane) (MEMO) and the vinyltris(2-methoxyethoxy) silane (VTMOEO), as reinforcement. Composites were made with 0.5, 1.5 and 3 wt% of alumina particles. Adhesion was evaluated using the micro hardness testing method. The contact angle was measured and compared to the adhesive parameter from micro hardness measurements. The form of the indent on the surface of the composite film was analyzed in order to correlate the indent morphology to the adhesion quality.

AB - Composites with the addition of alumina nanofillers show improvement in mechanical properties.Poly(methyl methacrylate), PMMA, was used as a matrix and two different types of nanofillers having extremely different shapes were added into the matrix to form the composites. The reinforcements were based on alumina nanoparticles having either a spherical shape or whiskers with a length to diameter ratio of 100. The influence of the size and shape of the alumina fillers and the loading on the mechanical properties of the prepared composite were studied using nanoindentation measurements and dynamic mechanical analysis. It was observed that both alumina whiskers and spherical alumina nanoparticles added in the PMMA matrix improved the mechanical properties of the composites, but the improvement was significantly higher with reinforcement by alumina whiskers. The concentration of the reinforcing spherical alumina nanoparticles and alumina whiskers in the PMMA matrix varied up to 5 wt. %. The best performance was obtained by the addition of 3 wt. % of alumina whiskers in the PMMA matrix in terms of the mechanical properties of the obtained composite.

AB - In this study, spherical particles of hydroxyapatite (HA) and alpha-tricalcium phosphate (alpha-Ca-3(PO4)(2): alpha-TCP) doped with different amounts of silicon were used for the preparation of scaffolds. The scaffolds were obtained by a replica foam method using particles of narrow size distribution pre-annealed at 1150 degrees C with different alpha-TCP and HA contents in order to investigate the effect of composition on their morphological and mechanical properties. Morphology, size, and distribution of the particles were characterized using scanning electron microscopy and particle size analyzer. The obtained alpha-TCP-HA scaffolds had compressive strengths up to 5.7 MPa with a uniform and interconnected porous structure. X-ray diffraction analysis used to determine the crystal structure of the scaffolds confirmed that the alpha-TCP-HA content could be controlled by the amount of silicon ions.

AB - This study examined the possible correlation between the degree of conversion (DC) and the amount of substances eluted from three commercial cured resin-based cements. The DC of the various resin-based cements was measured by Raman spectroscopy, while the quantity of unreacted monomers released from the cement matrix (triethylene glycol dimethacrylate, TEGDMA, urethane dimethacrylate, UDMA, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, HEMA and bisphenol A) was determined by high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC). The obtained results, after multiple statistical evaluation (one way ANOVA, LSD post hoc test), showed no significant differences in the DC values between the resin cements. On the contrary, the results of the HPLC analysis depicted statistically significant differences between the three materials with respect to the amount of leached monomers. In addition, no correlation between the DC and the amount of eluted substances from the tested cured composite cements was found.

Stepen konverzije kompozitnih cemenata određen je metodom Raman spektroskopije, dok je količina neizreagovalih i oslobođenih monomera iz cementnog matriksa detektovana pomoću HPLC metode. Rezultati dobijeni nakon višestruke statističke evaluacije (one way ANOVA, LSD past hoc test) ne pokazuju značajne razlike u stepenu konverzije različitih preparata kompozitnih cemenata. Nasuprot tome, rezultati HPLC analize beleže značajne razlike u količini i vrsti monomernih supstanci otpuštenih iz kompozitnih cemenata. Takođe, statistička analiza u okviru ove studije nije pokazala korelaciju stepena konverzije ispitivanih kompozitnih dentalnih cemenata i količine oslobođenih supstanci iz ovih materijala.

abstract = "This study examined the possible correlation between the degree of conversion (DC) and the amount of substances eluted from three commercial cured resin-based cements. In addition, no correlation between the DC and the amount of eluted substances from the tested cured composite cements was found., Rad istražuje moguću korelaciju stepena konverzije (DC) i količine oslobođenih monomernih supstanci iz tri komercijalna preparata kompozitnih dentalnih cemenata. AB - The aim of this work is the investigation of alpha-tricalcium-phosphate (alpha-TCP) formation from calcium-deficient hydroxyapatite (CDHAP), synthesized by hydrothermal method from CaCl2, EDTA, NaH2PO4 center dot 2H(2)O and urea as precursors at 160 degrees C. Further, the influence of Ca/P ratios in the starting solution on alpha-TCP formation and the settings of obtained cements in simulated body fluid (SBF) were investigated. According to the results of X-ray, FTIR and SEM analyses, it is shown that CDHAP is transformed to beta-TCP at 800 degrees C, and to alpha-TCP at 1200 degrees C. Almost complete transformation of CDHAP into alpha-TCP occur after heating at 1500 degrees C in the case when Ca/P ratio in starting solution was 1,42. Cement powder mixed with the cement liquid (2.5 wt.% solution of Na2HPO4) completely hydrolyzes after 7 days in SBF, forming only CDHAP phase.
