AB - Nanostructured nickel-cobalt-molybdenum alloy powders were electrodeposited from an ammonium sulfate bath. The powders mostly consist of an amorphous phase and a very small amount of nanocrystals with an mean size of less than 3 nm. An increase in deposition current density increases the amorphous phase percentage, the density of chaotically distributed dislocations and internal microstrains in the powders, while decreasing the mean nanocrystal size. The temperature range over which the structural relaxation of the powders deposited at higher current densities occurs is shifted towards lower temperatures. A change in relative magnetic permeability during structural relaxation is higher in powders deposited at higher current densities. Powder crystallization takes place at temperatures above 700 degrees C. The formation of the stable crystal structure causes a decrease in relative magnetic permeability.

AB - The effect of niobium and vanadium additions (0.5 mass% and 2 mass%) on the as-cast microstructure and properties of hypoeutectic white cast iron containing 19 mass% Cr and 2.9 mass% C, has been examined. NbC carbides present in the structure of tested Fe-Cr-CNb alloys, due to their characteristic morphology, show higher wear resistance and toughness than M7C3 carbides. Increasing amount of this type of carbides, caused by the increase of niobium in the alloy, contributes to the improvement of wear resistance and dynamic fracture toughness. The alloy containing 2% Nb gives the best compromise between wear resistance and fracture toughness. This alloy shows about 23% greater dynamic fracture toughness and about 25% greater abrasion wear resistance than the basic Fe-Cr-C alloy. Besides, the secondary carbides which precipitate in the matrix regions of the tested Fe-Cr-C-V white irons also influence the abrasion behaviour and fracture toughness. The alloy containing 0.5% V has approximately the same fracture toughness but lower wear resistance than alloy with 2% Nb.

AB - Magnetic thin films based on iron group elements (Fe, Co, Ni) are currently used in computer's hard disk drives and in MEMS, whereas electrodeposition is a suitable method to obtain these materials. The powders of metals and alloys were obtained by electrochemical deposition at constant current density using alkaline ammonium electrolyte which consist one, two or three different elements Co, Ni and Mo. Ni and Co are deposited anomalously. The Mo element cannot be obtained electrochemically from the aqueous solutions. Electrochemical deposition of this metal is induced by codeposited iron-group metals, Ni and Co, for instance. This study investigates the influence of electrochemical parameters on composition and properties of obtained powders. Based on the obtained experimental results, it could be concluded that the particle size of deposited powders and chemical composition are influenced by the chemical composition of the electrolyte, with changing the concentration ratio of ions of metallic salts as well as current density imposed. As a consequence, the changes in magnetic properties are obvious. The structure and morphology of powders were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). For demonstration of mechanism of powder deposition Image ProPlus software for SEM microphotograph analysis was used. The values of individual objects as well as formed clusters of powders were measured by this technique. The chemical composition of the powders was determinate using Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. XRD results suggested that obtained powders were of amorphous structure.

AB - This paper addresses on investigation the possibility of electrolytic treatment the sulphur acidic waste solution, obtained in the conventional electrolytic copper refining process. Beside the high copper concentration, the high concentration of other metals, in this case nickel, is the main characteristic of these waste solutions. Due to this fact, the copper bearing anodes with non-standard nickel, lead, tin and antimony content were specially prepared for the refining process. Nickel content of all anodes was approximately 7.5 mass%, and the content of lead, tin and antimony was varied. The preliminary results, obtained using the standard electrochemical techniques, have indicated that the copper bearing anodes could be used under the same conditions as well as in the conventional copper refining process. The measurements in constant galvanostatic pulse have pointed out that the all chemical elements from copper bearing anodes were dissolved and only copper was deposited onto the cathode. It was also pointed out that Ni concentration in the base working electrolyte (sulphur acidic waste solution), after 72 h of process, increased to 102 mass% at T-1 = 63 +/- 2 degrees C and up to 122 mass% at T-1 = 73 +/- 2 degrees C, while arsenic concentration decreased to a minimum value.

AB - Cordierite ceramic material, due to its properties such as low thermal expansion coefficient, low dielectric constant and high specific resistivity, could be used as an insulating material in high-frequency electronics. as well as a substrate for integrated circuits and electronic modules. In this paper, cordierite (2MgO center dot 2A1(2)O(3)center dot 5SiO(2)) was synthesized by the non-hydrolytic sol-gel process combined with solvothermal treatment starting from aluminium chloride, TEOS and magnesium chloride dissolved in absolute ethanol. Crystallization of mu-cordierite from gel occurred at temperatures between 900 and 1000 degrees C and a higher calcination temperature resulted in the transformation of mu-cordierite to alpha-cordierite. Cordierite material obtained by sintering of powder in the temperature range from 1400 to 1450 degrees C showed values of the dielectric constants from 7.93 to 3.78 and values of dielectric loss tangents from 0.049 to 0.001.
