AB - The objective of this work was to investigate the stability of the gold complex based on
mercaptotriazole in slightly acid media, at pH=4. The gold complex complex was studied by the visual monitoring and electrochemical characterization of electrolytes in the period of three months.
Electrochemical characterization was performed by the open circuit potential measurement, cycling
voltammetry method and recording the polarization curves, with pH of the electrolyte measurement
before and after each electrochemical experiment. These tests, performed at pH=4 and optimal
concentration of gold in the electrolyte of 2.5 g/dm3, for a period three months, did not show any visual or other essential changes of investigated electrolyte characteristics.

AB - Stability of the gold complex based on mercaptotriazole in two acid electrolytes with different pH values and in a neutral medium was investigated in this work. Investigation was performed by visual monitoring and electrochemical characterization of the electrolytes in a period of one year or until first visible signs of complex decomposition. Electrochemical characterization of the gold complex based on mercaptotriazole was performed by open circuit potential measurement, cycling voltammetry method and by recording the polarization curves. The pH values of the electrolytes were measured before and after each electrochemical experiment. These tests were performed at different starting pH values: 2, 4 and 7 at optimal concentration of gold in the electrolyte of 2.5 g/dm(3). For electrolytes with pH values of four and seven, the first visible signs of the complex decomposition appeared tree months after synthesis. Electrolyte with pH value of two was visually stable for a period of one year.

AB - The aim of this work was to investigate the effects of current density, temperature, pH and concentration of ethyl-hexilsulfonate additive on the microhardness of electrochemically deposited gold decorative coatings obtained from a conventional cyanide electrolyte and gold complex based on mercaptotriazole. Mechanically and chemically prepared brass samples were first nickeled from acidic electrolyte. Nickel was a substrate deposit, and then decorative gold coatings were deposited from two types of electrolytes at different current densities and temperatures. Decorative gold coatings were deposited from auri-mercaptotrizole at different pH values and from electrolyte with and without the ethylhexilsulfonate additive. The microhardness of the gold coating was measured using the Knoop method. The highest values of microhardness were obtained at a current density of 1 A dm(-2) at room temperature for both electrolytes. The microhardness of the gold coatings from cyanide electrolytes was HK = 740 MPa, and the coatings obtained from auri-mercaptotriazole HK = 660 MPa. This difference is not relevant for decorative purposes. The highest values of microhardness, HK = 660 MPa, were obtained at pH = 9 from the gold complex based on mercaptotriazole without the additive.

AB - The objective of this study was characterization of anodic film obtained when Ag43Cu37Zn20 alloy was treated electrochemically in 3.5% wt. NaCI under potentiostatic conditions. At the potential of +0.25 V a complex multilayer film is formed. XRD shows that it consists of CuCI and zinc hydroxichlorides with a small amount of Cu2O, probably formed in the film pores. The anodic film is a mixture of Cu2O, CuCI, Zn-5(OH)(8)center dot H2O and beta-Zn(OH)Cl. Phases of the alloy, Ag and Cu rich, show different anodic behavior. It was assumed that all phonon lines in the obtained Raman spectra were of the Lorentzian type, which is one of the common type of lines for this kind of analysis. Phases of Ag, CuCI, fl-Zn(OH)CI, Cu2O and Zn-5(OH)(8)(Cl)(2)center dot H2O were all registered by XRD.

AB - In this work, the possibilities of a mass spectrometry approach towards the characterizations of the electrolyte for decorative gold plating based on mercaptotriazole were studied. All mass spectra were obtained using laser desorption ionization (LDI) method on a commercial matrix assisted laser desorption ionization – time of flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometer. The LDI MS spectra of chloroauric acid gave evidence of the presence of a variety of monomeric and polymeric complexes. LDI MS spectra of the electrolyte obtained from chloroauric acid, glycine and mercaptotriazole revealed existence of the ion at m/z 472 which indicated that the complex [Au(NH2CH2COOH)(C2H2N3S)2]- has been formed.

AB - We investigated the effects of natural seawater on the corrosion of an Ag43Cu37Zn20 alloy. The alloy was a commercial brazing filler alloy of composition (BS1845:1984 Ag5) and belongs to the class of Cd-free silver brazing alloys. The Ag-Cu-Zn system is corrosion resistant in chloride solutions has not been widely examined. In this study, the corrosion behavior of the alloy has been investigated using the open circuit potential measurements, Tafel plots and anodic potentiodynamic curves. By comparing different samples of marine water indicates that salinity is the primary influence on corrosion behavior near the open circuit potential. At higher anodic potentials, the impact of mineral composition becomes significant.

AB - The aim of this work was A comparative characterization of electrochemically deposited gold decorative coatings obtained from the fresh synthesized electrolyte, then the electrolyte aged for a year and coatings obtained from the electrolyte by dissolving crystals of gold-mercaptotriazole. The external appearance of coatings, thickness, surface roughness, the Knoop microhardness and electron micros- copy (SEM with EDS) have showed that the coatings obtained from all three electrolytes are bright and with a good adhesion. The smallest roughness was measured for the coating obtained from fresh electrolyte and the greatest for the coating obtained from electrolyte obtained by dissolving crystals. In terms of hardness, there are no significant differences.

AB - The goal of this paper was to study the influence of organic gold complex based on mercaptotriazole on photoresist layers used in manufacturing of printed circuit boards (PCBs). Investigations were performed by immersion the previously prepared boards in electrolytes with different pH values (pH=2, 4, 7, 9 and 12) at gold concentration of 2.5 g/dm3 and in gold complexes with different gold concentrations (1.5; 2.0; 2.5; 3.0 and 3.5 g/dm(3)) at pH value of pH=9. Investigations showed that photoresist layers on boards are the most resistant at optimal operating conditions, pH=9 and concentration of gold of 2.5 g/dm(3).

AB - The aim of this work was to investigate the effect of temperature on the thickness, surface roughness, visual appearance and morphology of electrochemically deposited gold decorative coatings obtained from conventional cyanide electrolyte (AUROCIN DPB) and electrolyte based on mercaptotriazole (Au-MT). Heating of cyanide electrolyte does not significantly affect the thickness (b) of gold coatings (at 20 degrees C b = 0.08 mu m, at 30 degrees C b = 0.07 mu m and at 40 degrees C b = 0.08 mu m) and, for this reason, the decorative coating processes were carried out at room temperature. Temperature increase has a positive effect on thickness of decorative gold coatings obtained from electrolyte based on mercaptotriazole, but this effect is very small, so the heating of electrolyte is not recommended for this type of electrolyte (at 20 degrees C b = 0.08 mu m, at 40 degrees C b = 0.12 mu m and at 60 degrees C b = 0.13 mu m). The best coating roughness profiles are obtained at a temperature of 20 degrees C for both types of electrolyte. The morphology of gold deposits, obtained from both electrolytes, was studied using scanning electron microscopy.
