AB  - Commercial gamma - Al2O3 particles, Al2O3 n, and synthesized Al2O3 doped with iron oxide (Al2O3 Fe) were used as reinforcements to enhance the toughness of an unsaturated polyester resin (UPR). Alumina modification with vinyl, Al2O3 (n, Fe)-VT, and methacryloyl, Al2O3 (n, Fe)-ME functionalities contributed to the increase in the extent of covalent binding at the UPR/filler interface. Tensile tests showed a slight improvement in the toughness of UPR/Al2O3 Fe composite and a significant improvement for the UPR/Al2O3 Fe-VT composite at a 1.0 wt.% particle loading. An enhancement in the micro Vickers hardness for UPR/Al2O3 Fe-VT and improved DMA properties were also evidenced.

AB  - Two types of alumina particles, commercial (c-Al2O3) and iron doped (Fe-Al2O3), were functionalized with 3-(aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane (one-step) and two-step consecutive process, i.e. firstly using 3-(aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane followed by methyl ester of linseed oil (biodiesel) to produce Al(2)O(3)ATPMS-BD reinforcement, respectively. The effect of modifier type and variable amount of alumina particles on the dynamical and mechanical properties of unsaturated polyester resin-based composites was studied. The highest improvement of the tensile strength and micro Vickers hardness, 78.1 and 163%, respectively, was obtained at 1.0 wt% of Fe-Al(2)O(3)APTMS-BD addition. The obtained multifunctional composites can be potentially applied in construction and mining industries.

AB  - Commercial alumina wiskers (Al2O3 w) and synthesized alumina particles via sol-gel technique (Al2O3 m) were used as reinforcement in unsaturated polyester resins (UPR). Composite materials with the addition of 0.1 wt. %, 0.25 wt. %, 0.5 wt. %, 1.0 wt. %. i 2.5 wt. % of alumina based particles were obtained. Structural analysis of used alumina reinforcement and obtained UPR/Al2O3 composites was performed by FTIR spectroscopy. Morphology was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The microhardness test was done using the Vikers method. Obtained results showed an increase of microhardness of UPR/Al2O3 w composites up to 66.4%, while the increase of microhardness of UPR/Al2O3 m composite was up to 52.3% compared to UPR matrix.
AB  - Komercijalni aluminijum oksid u formi viskersa (Al2O3 w) i sintentizovane Al2O3 čestice proizvedene sol-gel tehnikom (Al2O3 m) korišćene su kao ojačanja nezasićenih poliestarskih smola (NZPE). Pri-premljeni su kompozitni materijali sa udelom ojačanja od 0,1 mas. %, 0,25 mas. %, 0,5 mas. %, 1,0 mas. %. i 2,5 mas. %. Strukturna analiza korišćenih ojačanja i dobijenih kompozita NZPE/Al2O3 izvršena je FTIR spektroskopijom. Morfologija korišćenih ojačanja ispitana je pomoću skenirajućeg elektronskog mikroskopa (SEM). Ispitivanje mikrotvrdoće urađeno je Vikersovom metodom. AB  - The adsorption performance of three-dimensionally ordered macroporous (3DOM) gamma-alumina was investigated for enhanced Pb2+, Ni2+ and Cd2+ removal. The synthesis was based on a modified sol-gel method using a colloidal crystal template (CCT) method based on PMMA microspheres. The structure was characterized by means of FTIR spectroscopy and XRD analysis. The three-dimensional structure was examined by scanning electron microscopy, which enabled image analysis that showed significantly low shrinkage (8.77%) after calcination at 800 degrees C. The influential parameters, including contact time and adsorbent dosage, were investigated in a batch adsorption study. The adsorption equilibrium and kinetic data were found to be in agreement with the Freundlich isotherm for Pb2+ removal and the Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm for Ni2+ and Cd2+ removal. The time-dependent adsorption was best described by a pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Weber-Morris model. High adsorption capacities: 95.39, 23.32 and 25.39 mg/g were obtained for Pb2+, Cd2+ and Ni2+ removal at 45 degrees C, respectively. The existence of interconnected macroporous and mesoporous structures of highly ordered gamma-alumina enabled a higher adsorption capacity in comparison with literature data for others alumina-based adsorbents.

AB  - Unsaturated polyester resins (UPe) were synthesized from maleic anhydride and products of glycolysis, obtained by polyethylene terephthalate (PET) depolymerization with dipropylene glycol (DPG) in the presence of tetrabutyl titanate catalyst. Waste PET glycolyzed product and UPes were characterized by FTIR and NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, acid value (AV), hydroxyl value (HV) and iodine value. Nanocomposites, based on unsaturated polyester resins and hexamethyldisilazane modified silica nanoparticles, were prepared with intention to show one of valuable applicative commercialization of UPe resin. In order to determine potential of the possible implementation of developed new technology for UPe production some aspect of techno- economic analysis was analyzed. Economic potential/benefit and process profitability of the presented technology was based on the use of recycled raw input materials, i.e. waste PET, which is one of the most effective ways to save natural resources, protect the environment, and save money. Principles of green economy was incorporated in the results of developed UPe production technology which is related to both environmental protection and profitability achievement with no additional negative impact to environment, i.e. pollution decrease without negative effect of implemented technology.
AB  - Nezasićene poliestarske smole (UPe) su sintetisane iz anhidrida maleinske kiseline i proizvoda glikolize, dobijenih depolimerizacijom poli(etilen tereftalata) (PET-a) sa dipropilen-glikolom (DPG) u prisustvu tetrabutil-titanata kao katalizatora. Proizvod glikolize otpadnog PET-a i UPe smole su okarakterisani pomoću FTIR i NMR spektroskopije, elementalne analize, kiselinskog (AV), hidroksilnog (HV) i jodnog broja. Nanokompoziti, bazirani na nezasićenim poliestarskim smolama i nanočesticama silicijum-dioksida modifikovanim heksametildisilazanom, pripremljene su sa namerom da se prikaže jedna od značajnih komercijalnih primena UPe smola. U cilju određivanja mogućnosti mogućih implementacija razvijenih novih tehnologija proizvodnje UPe smola, urađena je neki tehno-ekonomska analiza. Ekonomska korist i profitabilnost procesa prikazane tehnologije su zasnovani na primeni reciklaže sirovog materijala, otpadnog PET-a, što predstavlja jedan od najefektivnijih načina da se očuvaju prirodni resursi, zaštiti životna sredina i uštedi novac. Principi zelene ekonomije su ugrađeni u razvijenoj tehnologiji proizvodnje UPe smola, što se odnosi i na zaštitu životne sredine i dostizanje profitabilnosti bez dodatnih negativnih uticaja na životnu sredinu, odnosno na smanjenje zagađenja bez negativnog uticaja na implementiranu tehnologiju.

Nanocomposites, based on unsaturated polyester resins and hexamethyldisilazane modified silica nanoparticles, were prepared with intention to show one of valuable applicative commercialization of UPe resin. In order to determine potential of the possible implementation of developed new technology for UPe production some aspect of techno- economic analysis was analyzed. Economic potential/benefit and process profitability of the presented technology was based on the use of recycled raw input materials, i.e. waste PET, which is one of the most effective ways to save natural resources, protect the environment, and save money. Principles of green economy was incorporated in the results of developed UPe production technology which is related to both environmental protection and profitability achievement with no additional negative impact to environment, i.e. pollution decrease without negative effect of implemented technology., Nezasićene poliestarske smole (UPe) su sintetisane iz anhidrida maleinske kiseline i proizvoda glikolize, dobijenih depolimerizacijom poli(etilen tereftalata) (PET-a) sa dipropilen-glikolom (DPG) u prisustvu tetrabutil-titanata kao katalizatora. Proizvod glikolize otpadnog PET-a i UPe smole su okarakterisani pomoću FTIR i NMR spektroskopije, elementalne analize, kiselinskog (AV), hidroksilnog (HV) i jodnog broja. Nanokompoziti, bazirani na nezasićenim poliestarskim smolama i nanočesticama silicijum-dioksida modifikovanim heksametildisilazanom, pripremljene su sa namerom da se prikaže jedna od značajnih komercijalnih primena UPe smola. U cilju određivanja mogućnosti mogućih implementacija razvijenih novih tehnologija proizvodnje UPe smola, urađena je neki tehno-ekonomska analiza. Ekonomska korist i profitabilnost procesa prikazane tehnologije su zasnovani na primeni reciklaže sirovog materijala, otpadnog PET-a, što predstavlja jedan od najefektivnijih načina da se očuvaju prirodni resursi, zaštiti životna sredina i uštedi novac. Principi zelene ekonomije su ugrađeni u razvijenoj tehnologiji proizvodnje UPe smola, što se odnosi i na zaštitu životne sredine i dostizanje profitabilnosti bez dodatnih negativnih uticaja na životnu sredinu, odnosno na smanjenje zagađenja bez negativnog uticaja na implementiranu tehnologiju.",
