AB - This study presents an analysis of films which consist of two layers; one layer is PVDF as the matrix, along with fillers BaTiO3 (BT), and the second is one bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) filled with Fe3O4. The mass fraction of BT in PVDF was 5%, and the samples were differentiated based on the duration of the mechanical activation of BT. This innovative PVDF laminate polymer with environmentally friendly fillers aligns with the concept of circular usage, resulting in a reduction in plastic content and potential improvement of the piezoelectric properties of the entire composite. This work presents new, multifunctional “green” packaging materials that potentially could be a good alternative to specific popular materials used for this purpose. The synthesis of the films was carried out using the hot press method. Tensile tests, water vapor permeability examination, and structural analyses using SEM-EDS and FTIR have been conducted. The sample PVDF/BT20/BNC/Fe3O4 exhibited the best barrier properties (impermeability to water vapor), while the highest tensile strength and toughness were exhibited by the PVDF/BT5/BNC/Fe3O4 sample.

AB - The hybrid multifunctional magnetic organic/inorganic composite materials, with addition of optimal filler type and quantities are attractive due to wide range of potential application, from various pressure sensors, through smart packaging, to tissue engineering and medicine. The structural, morphological and magnetic properties of polyvinylidene fluoride/nanocellulose/magnetite@BaTiO3 hybrid films were investigated. The presented study revealed significant impact of nanocellulose (NC) content on formation of the polymorphs of PVDF, responsible for ferro-, piezo- and pyroelectric properties. The structural characterization, XRD and Raman measurements confirmed enhancement of the β and γ phases when the loading of NC higher then 4 wt% in multi-component hybrid films. The saturation magnetization value gradually raises with increasing amount of NC and reaches its maximum value of 41.2 emu/g at content of 4 wt% NC. Further, addition of NC decreases saturation magnetization value regardless of constant amount of magnetite, indicating optimal content of NC substrate for co-precipitation of Fe3O4 onto NC matrix.

AB - Poly(vinylidenefluoride)–ZnO (PVDF–ZnO) nanocomposites with mechanically activated ZnO nanoparticle fillers were investigated using thermal and mechanical analysis and AFM and PFM. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) investigated the effect of ZnO nanoparticles on the crystallinity of the polymer, under controlled heating and cooling. Atomic force (AFM) microscopy was used to record the surfaces of the samples. Nanocomposite surface roughness shows the presence of the different phases inside of the matrix, where rough samples contain a higher proportion of the β phase. PFM was performed to investigate the piezoresponse of the composites. Nanoidentation showed that the mechanical activation of the filler (ZnO) increases the Young modulus with the activation time. Molecular simulations in periodic systems (PVDF–ZnO spherical nanocluster and nanocylinder composite) were used to investigate the influence of particle size and shape on the Young modulus of different phases of PVDF.

AB - This study aimed to characterize mixtures of goat milk proteins and Agaricus blazei Murrill (ABM) extracts (aqueous, AE and polysaccharides, PE). The mixtures showed stable particles with ζ-potential more negative than −41.1 mV. The addition of AMB extracts to goat milk did not result in a significant particle size change, whereas their addition to heated goat milk significantly increased mean particle diameter (from 194 nm to 225 nm). Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) showed that ABM extracts provoked changes in the secondary structure of goat milk proteins and interactions between polysaccharides and milk proteins predominantly via hydrogen and/or glycoside bonds and hydrophobic interactions. The milk protein profiles revealed proteolytic activity in mixtures with AE resulting in the formation of five new polypeptides. The different microstructures of mixtures with AE and PE were found by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). A schematic representation of possible milk proteins-ABM extracts interactions has been given.

AB - The impact of the type and amounts of nanofiller on the features of the glycidyl methacrylate-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (GMA-co-EGDMA)/organomodified montmorillonite (OMt) nanocomposites that were prepared by in situ radical suspension polymerization, was examined. Cloisite 30B and Cloisite 25A were used in this study as nanofillers, in amounts of 2 and 10 wt.%. The structure, morphology, thermal stability and porosity of the initial GMA-co-EGDMA copolymer and their nanocomposites were examined by ATR-FTIR analysis, wide angle X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and mercury porosimetry. It has been established that both clay nanofillers were successfully incorporated into the structure of the initial copolymer, simultaneously on their surface and also on cross-sectional area. Prepared samples with 2 wt.% have predominantly exfoliated, while samples with 10 wt.% have some tactoids-aggregates structure of the OMt layers. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed that after ~ 30 % of degradation, all nanocomposites become more thermal stable than the initial copolymer. The obtained results indicate that porosity parameters can be easily modified with the addition of clay nanofillers and thus prepared nanocomposites adjusted to specific purposes. © 2022 Authors. AB - Pure Ti films deposited by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering on FTO glass were anodized to fabricate TiO2 nanotubes (NTs) arrays. The TiO2 NTs/FTO samples were sintered at 450, 550 and 630°C, in ambient air. The thermal treatment did not influence the crystal phase composition, preserving in all cases the anatase single phase. As expected, the crystalline anatase quality improved with the annealing temperature. Nevertheless, slight differences in nanotubular morphology, such as the appearance of grains inside the walls, were observed in the case of the sample sintered at 630°C. Chemical analysis by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy of annealed samples revealed the presence of Sn inside TiO2 NTs, due to diffusion of Sn from the substrate to TiO2. For the substrate was used FTO glass whose top layer consists of SnO2 doped with F. Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry and Time-of-Flight Elastic Recoil Detection Analysis were carried out to study the elemental depth profile of the films. It was found that the temperature of sintering controls the Sn diffusion inside TiO2 film. Sn atoms diffuse towards the TiO2 NTs surface for the samples annealed at 450 and 550°C. The diffusion is however hindered in the case of the heat treatment at 630°C. Besides, the Ti diffusion into the SnO2 underlayer was observed, together with the formation of TiO2/SnO2 interfaces. One then expected but not a great difference in absorption between samples, since all contained anatase phase, as confirmed by Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy. A higher amount of Sn was however detected for the sample annealed at 550°C, which accounts for a slight red absorption shift. The importance of controlling the annealing parameters of the anodized TiO2/FTO structures was highlighted through the formation of TiO2-SnO2 interfaces and the Sn insertion from FTO, which can play an essential role in increasing the photoperformances of TiO2 NTs/FTO based structures of photovoltaic cells.

AB - Crude polysaccharide extracts derived from Agaricus bisporus (A), A. brasiliensis (B), and Phellinus linteus (P) were used for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs, labeled AAgNP, BAgNP, PAgNP, respectively) UV and FT-IR spectra, size distribution, and zeta potential of the respective particles were recorded, and TEM and SEM-EDS characterization was done. UV-Vis spectroscopy showed maximum absorbance at 415 mu for A, at 400 nm for P, and at 420 nm for B. SEM-EDS analysis showed BAgNP to consist of almost 90% of silver, while silver content in AAgNP and PAgNP was much lower, 46.5 and 52.3%, respectively. Individual extracts as well as the Ag-NPs were tested against a panel of clinically isolated and ATCC derived pathogens. In almost all cases minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was significantly lower than those of antibiotics, suggesting up to 100 times more effectivity. BAgNP, PAgNP, and AAgNP appeared very active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 (MIC: 0.19, 0.19, 0.97 mu g/mL, respectively). The same nanoparticles were also very effective toward Candida albicans ATCC 10231 (MIC: 0.39, 0.78, 0.97 mu g/mL, respectively). Our study indicates that the bactericidal effect of PAgNP, AAgNP, BAgNP on E. coli 25922 ATCC (MBC: 1.56, 0.97, 6.25 mu g/mL, respectively) is significantly more pronounced than that of amoxicillin. A pure solution of colloidal silver nanoparticles showed significantly weaker microbiostatic/microbiocidal potential than all tested mushroom extracts' AgNPs, as well as amoxicillin. Silver nanoparticles made with extracts of A, B, and P seem welcome as an addition to the inventory of antimicrobial compounds used in clinical medicine against bacterial and yeast infection.

AB - Industrial/technological growth is directly connected with environmental pollution, but its influence can be minimized through pollution abatement approaches such as the treatment of industrial wastewater. In this study, novel porous amine-functionalized silicate minerals, specifically, cordierite was investigated for the removal of toxic heavy metals from industrial wastewaters. Cordierite supports were synthesized by mixing MgO, Al2O3, and SiO2 powders in 2:2:5 molar ratios, and mechanically activated via ball milling in ethanol for 10, 40, or 80 min. Pellets were sintered by heating in air at 20 degrees C min(-1) to 1,350 degrees C, for 2 h. Porous supports were produced by coarsely crushing the sintered pellets and mixing the crushed and sieved cordierite powder with 20 wt.% of a pore-forming agent, either nanocellulose or yeast. The resulting pellets were sintered by heating at 5 degrees C min(-1) to 700 degrees C in air. The synthetic cordierite support was modified by treatment in poly-ethylenimine. Activated supports were then tested for the removal of Ni2+ and Cd2+ ions. The phase composition of the cordierite supports was analyzed by the X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. Analysis of adsorption isotherms, kinetics, and thermodynamic parameters indicated that adsorption was a spontaneous, endothermic process with a maximum adsorption capacity of 36 mg g(-1) for Cd2+ and 43 mg g(-1) for Ni2+. This work has shed light on the mechanism of heavy metal removal from the aquatic medium using the novel hybrid functionalized cordierite-based ceramic.

AB - Magnetic and non-magnetic macroporous crosslinked copolymers of glycidyl methacrylate and trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate were prepared by suspension copolymerization and functionalized with diethylenetriamine. The samples were characterized by mercury porosimetry, scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis (FTIR-ATR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and SQUID magnetometry. The FTIR-ATR analysis of synthesized magnetic nanocomposites confirmed the presence of magnetite and successful aminofunctionalization. Non-functionalized and amino-functionalized nanocomposites exhibited superparamagnetic behavior at 300 K, with a saturation magnetization of 5.0 emu/g and 2.9 emu/g, respectively. TEM analysis of the magnetic nanocomposite has shown that magnetic nanoparticles were homogeneously dispersed in the polymer matrix. It was demonstrated that incorporation of magnetic nanoparticles enhanced the thermal stability of the magnetic nanocomposite in comparison to the initial non-magnetic macroporous copolymer.

AB - Magnesium aluminate, MgAl2O4 and other alumina-based spinels are ceramics with high hardness, high melting point and mechanical strenght. Spinels can also be used as dielectrics in microwave applications. The goal of this study was to examine the effects of mechanical activation and sintering temperatures on physico-chemical properties of spinel. MgAl2O4 was produced by solid state reaction between MgO and alpha-Al2O3. The starting powders were mixed by ball milling to homogenize without significant particle size reduction. Mechanical activation of mixed powders was performed in a high-energy planetary ball mill in air for 1 h. Powders were compacted at 300 MPa. Heat treatments were performed in air, at temperatures ranging from 1200 to 1600 degrees C with 2 h dwell time, to determine the amount of spinel formation as a function of temperature. Phase composition and microstructure of initial powders and heated samples were determined by means of X-ray diffraction, particle size analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The influences of milling and consolidation parameters were studied by electrical measurements and mechanical characterization. The main conclusion of this study was that mechanical activation for 60 min initiated a mechano-chemical reaction, resulted in spinel formation at much lower temperatures than within non-activated powders, and indicated that final sintering stage started at much lower temperatures for activated powders. Changes in microstructure parameters, as a consequence of mechanical treatment and subsequent heating of investigated powder mixtures, strongly affect electrical and mechanical properties of the final ceramics.

AB - New agar-based composite films with increasing Cu-carbonate and Cu-phosphate mineral phase content were prepared by in situ mineralization and solvent casting method. SEM and optical analysis revealed that Cu-carbonate phase had better compatibility with agar matrix than Cu-phosphate phase. Incorporation of both mineral phases improved mechanical and water vapor barrier properties of the obtained mineralized films, in concentration dependent manner. When 5 mM of carbonate precursor was incorporated into agar matrix, mechanical resistance was enchanced for 44% and water vapor barrier property for 40%. The release of Cu (II) was higher in acidic conditions for both mineralized composites and remained in the range of specific release limits for this metal. In addition, both mineralized composite films exhibited distinctive antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative (Escherichia coli) and Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria. Overall, the Cu-carbonate and Cu-phosphate mineralized agar films showed potential to be used for food packaging materials, agriculture or medical purposes.

AB - In the present study the commercial multifunctional fatty acid polyamidoamine (PAA) was for the first time simultaneously applied as a curing agent and clay modifier for epoxy/clay nanocomposites (NC) based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A. The montmorillonite (Cloisite (R) Na+) was modified with different quantities of partially and fully protonated polyamidoamine. The NCs with 0.5 wt% novel organoclay were prepared by solution intercalation method. The major aims of this paper are investigations of the effects of the composition of PAA modified clays on structure, mechanical, barrier properties and corrosion stability on steel substrates of NCs were studied. The thermogravimetric, flame photometry and X-ray diffraction analyses confirmed the efficient modification of clay surface with polyamidoamine, predominantly located within layers. The NCs exhibited an intercalated/exfoliated morphology and the presence of free amino groups and increased content of modifier facilitated dispersion of clay particles within the polymer matrix, as shown by electron microscopy techniques (SEM, TEM). Under an optimized loading of PAA (molar quantity of total amino groups per clay cation exchange capacity of 1.75), the layers in stacks were separated by 5.0 nm and high number of individual layers was present in NC. Clay modified by PAA with free amino groups showed increased storage modulus in the rubbery state, glass transition temperature of NCs, while dumping factor was decreased. The tensile test confirmed that introduction of flexible modifier on the epoxy/clay interface lead to increase in the ultimate tensile strenght and elongation at break by 31% and toughness up to 83%. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and permeability tests proved the pronounced barrier effect of clay particles against corrosive species and water vapor when high dispersion degree of clay in NC was achieved.

AB - Single phase MgAl2O4 was made from a one-to-one molar ratio of MgO and Al2O3 powders mixed using ball-milling. Mixtures of MgO and Al2O3 were subsequently treated in planetary ball mill for 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes in air. The aim of this study was to examine phase composition, microstructure, and densification behavior of sintered specimens. After sintering in dilatometer at 1500 degrees C, the powder was converted to single phase MgAl2O4. The results show that mechanical activation improved the densification behavior of MgAl2O4 sintered specimens, and it reduced the onset temperature for sintering by approx. 100 degrees C. Based on dilatometer data, powders were subsequently densified at 1450 degrees C by hot pressing. Almost all specimens exhibited full density, while sample activated for 30 minutes showed the fastest densification rate.

AB - Agar-based composites with different Zn-carbonate mineral phase content were prepared by in situ mineralization and the solvent casting method. The mineral phase within the composite films was identified as hydrozincite, Zn-5(CO3)(2)(OH)(6). The presence of the mineral phase improved, both mechanical and water vapor permeability properties of the obtained composite films, in a concentration-dependent manner. The release of zinc ions from composite films is in accepted levels (up to 2.5%), and sufficient to provide complete inhibition growth of S. Aureus. The results of this study suggest that agar/Zn-carbonate composites could be potentially used as affordable, eco-friendly and functional materials with tunable properties for food packaging, agriculture or biomedical application. In situ procedure offers possibilities for tailoring the physical-chemical properties of composite films, by varying the Zn-mineral phase load.

AB - Aim: The aim was to choose the optimal encapsulation system and to incorporate encapsulates loaded with essential oil into the ice cream as a model food product. Methods: Ca-alginate beads were produced by electrostatic extrusion process. Gelatine/alginate coacervates were processed with coacervation. Carnauba wax microparticles were produced using melt dispersion process. Morphological properties, chemical, and thermal stabilities of encapsulates were tested by SEM, FTIR spectral, and thermogravimetric analysis. Results: Alginate provided sufficient emulsion stability over 1 h. Ca-alginate showed higher encapsulation efficiency (EE) (98.4 +/- 4.3%) compared to carnauba wax (94.2 +/- 7.8%) and gelatine/alginate coacervates (13.2 +/- 1.2%). The presence of essential oil in all three types of encapsulates confirmed with FTIR. The encapsulation process ensured controlled release and thermal stability of the oil. Conclusions: Ca-alginate matrix as the most suitable for peppermint essential oil encapsulation. The sensory analysis showed that ice cream incorporating encapsulates is a promising system for the consumption of health beneficial peppermint essential oil.

AB - A facile synthesis was employed for three polyhedral oligo silsequioxanes (POSS), obtaining incompletely condensed structures with fern-like and cubic morphologies. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (H-1 NMR) indicated the successful synthesis of the proposed POSS structures. The hydroxyl groups affected the manner and type of POSS morphology, as seen under a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and a transmission electron microscope (TEM). Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) showed the availability of surface hydroxyl groups that contributed to the formation of a higher amount of char residue, as found from TGA analysis. The highest decomposition temperature (281 degrees C) and the least char residue were found for a cross-linkable POSS, obtained by esterification of the hydroxyl groups with methacryloyl chloride.

AB - Different semiconductors have been studied as photoanode material for solar cells. Among them, TiO2 has been shown to be the best material due to its chemical stability and good charge transport capability. It is usually deposited onto FTO glass (F-SnO2), and then heated at high temperature in order to obtain inter-crystalline electric contact for improving electron conductivity. The focus of this research was chemical analysis of the TiO2 nanotubes (NTs) obtained by anodization of titanium film on FTO glass using NH4F in ethylene glycol electrolyte. There are only few studies suggesting that the electrolyte is a source of N dopant in TiO2, but also Sn diffusion from FTO support was reported. This study aims to show the chemical distribution of elements of interest along the nanotubes depth. For that purpose the time-of-flight elastic recoil detection analysis (ToF-ERDA) and Rutherford backscattering (RBS) methods were used as complementary techniques for chemical analysis of both light, such is N, and heavy elements, such is Sn. The TiO2 NTs films were annealed at different temperatures (450– 630 °C) and the impact of the heating temperature on the chemical distribution was followed.

AB - Comparative adsorption study related to benefits of parent media size, i.e. microfibrillated cellulose (MC) versus nanocellulose (NC) support, for the preparation of magnetite (MG) based high performance adsorbent for arsenic removal was conducted. Precipitation of MG on amino terminal branched organic structure, L, either linked by maleic acid residue on NC surface (NC-MA/L) or linked by oxalyl bridge on MC surface (MC-O/L) produced NC-MA/L-MG and MC-O/L-MG adsorbents, respectively. Precipitation of nanosized MG on amino functionalized NC-MA/L and MC-O/L, performed according to optimized procedure, contributed to improved textural properties and adsorptive/kinetic performances of novel adsorbents. Adsorption capacity of arsenate, As(V), was in favor of NC-MA/L-MG (85.3 versus 18.5 mg g(-1)) while MC-O/L-MG exhibited faster kinetics (0.541 versus 0.189 g mg(-1) min(-1)). Lower capacity of arsenite, As(III), removal, 68.3 mg g(-1) for NC-MA/L-MG and 17.8 mg g(-1) for MC-O/L-MG, were obtained. Calculated activation energies, 13.28 and 10.87 kJ mol(-1) for NC-MA/L-MG and MC-O/L-MG with respect to As(V), respectively, suggest, in accordance with results of Weber-Morris fitting, that internal mass transfer controls adsorption process. Model free adsorption kinetics confirmed beneficial uses of MC-O/L-MG due to low activation energy dependence on the extent of adsorption.

AB - Iron oxide, in the form of magnetite (MG)-functionalized porous wollastonite (WL), was used as an adsorbent for heavy metal ions (cadmium and nickel) and oxyanions (chromate and phosphate) removal from water. The porous WL was synthesized from calcium carbonate and siloxane by controlled sintering process using low molecular weight submicrosized poly(methyl methacrylate) as a pore-forming agent. The precipitation of MG nanoparticles was carried out directly by a polyol-medium solvothermal method or via branched amino/carboxylic acid cross-linker by solvent/nonsolvent method producing WL/MG and WL--APS/MG adsorbents, respectively. The structure/properties of MG functionalized WL was confirmed by applying FTIR, Raman, XRD, Mossbauer, and SEM analysis. Higher adsorption capacities of 73.126, 66.144, 64.168, and 63.456mgg(-1) for WL--APS/MG in relation to WL/MG of 55.450, 52.019, 48.132, and 47.382mgg(-1) for Cd2+, Ni2+, phosphate, and chromate, respectively, were obtained using nonlinear Langmuir model fitting. Adsorption phenomena were analyzed using monolayer statistical physics model for single adsorption with one energy. Kinetic study showed exceptionally higher pseudo-second-order rate constants for WL--APS/MG, e.g., 1.17-13.4 times, with respect to WL/MG indicating importance of both WL surface modification and controllable precipitation of MG on WL--APS.

AB - Corundum (alpha-alumina) is a suiTab. material for usage in various industry fields owing to its chemical stability, electrical and mechanical features. It is known that properties of ceramics could be modified by addition of different oxides, as well as by changing the consolidation parameters. In this respect, alumina was doped with 1 wt.% of Cr2O3, Mn2O3 and NiO, followed by 1 hour of mechanical activation in a high-energy planetary ball mill. A sensitive dilatometer was used for sintering of powder mixtures up to 1400 degrees C and recording the obtained dilatation. The final density varied between cca. 1.9 and 3.3 g/cm(3). Microstructural changes were detected by SEM measurements. Changes in electrical permittivity and loss tangent were associated with the preparation conditions (types of additives, duration of mechanical activation). For a given mixture, the sintering increases the relative permittivity and decreases losses, exhibiting the optimal values of 8.32 and 0.027, respectively, for the sample activated 60 minutes and sintered, with the addition of MnO2. Mechanical measurements indicate significant differences in strength with the addition of different transition metal oxides. Samples with Mn and Ni, activated and sintered, with strength of 121 and 86 MPa, respectively, have a significantly higher tensile strength than the other tested samples, due to their more compact microstructures.

AB - The major aims of this paper are the investigation of the effects of the mixing procedure and the montmorillonite (Mt) surface modification on the structure (optical microscopy, XRD, TEM, SEM), rheological, mechanical properties (DMA, tensile test) and corrosion stability (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) of clay mineral/epoxy nanocomposite (CPN). Two series of CPN samples were prepared based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) and polyamidoamine curing agent with three organophilic Mt and sodium-montmorillonite (1 wt%). Mt were mixed with DGEBA solution in the powder (direct mixing) and in the form of dispersions, preswollen in a commercial coating thinner (solution intercalation). The commercial Mt (Cloisite 30B) modified by quaternary alkylammonium ions bearing hydroxyl groups and especially Mt functionalized by primary (HDA(+)-Mt) alkylammonium ions, at loadings close to cation exchange capacity (CRC), were significantly swollen by thinner and further uniformly dispersed into CPN. Meanwhile, low gel volumes in thinner were found for more hydrophobic Mt (Cloisite 15A). The compatibility of Mt with solvents was well described by solubility and Flory-Huggins interaction parameters. In contrast to the direct incorporation of Mt powders in CPN, swelling enhanced intercalation of epoxy matrix into Mt, and for HDA(+)-Mt based CPN interlayer spacing reached 4.4 nm. The usage of HDA(+)-Mt organoclay and solution intercalation procedure provided the highest enhancement in rheological parameters (G', G", of Mt/epoxy dispersions and glassy storage modulus, Young's modulus and barrier properties of cured CPN.

AB - This study has explored the possibility to reuse the waste, spent coffee material for the cellulase enzyme immobilization. By the coffee surface modification with different activating agents, it was attempted to develop the convenient method for creation of a capable porous carrier for this purpose. Among the most common activating agents, glutaraldehyde, chlorine dioxide and hydrogen peroxide provided the most acceptable choice for the coffee surface modification. The changes that occurred on the coffee surface due to agents' treatment exposure were recorded by using of the FTIR spectra and SEM micrographs. The highest immobilization yield (55%) and immobilization efficiency (45%) were attained during 30 min of the treatment time, by employing of 30% chlorine dioxide aqueous solution within 6 mL/g activator/carrier ratio. The kinetic process was found to be predicted by the pseudo-second-order model. The cellulase immobilization onto the coffee surface provides an excellent base for increasing the enzyme availability to the substrate and enhancing the enzyme productivity, by offering the new perspectives to the industrial sector.
