AB - Polyphenols present in different plant cell organelles increase the resistance of plants to various types of environmental stresses. We investigated the possibility of increasing the content of bioactive compounds in the seed of yellow soybean variety Laura. The soybean was treated during vegetation with five products based on plant extracts, on the assumption of enrichment of plants with various nutrients. Soybean flour extracts were screened spectrophotometrically for total phenolic content and antioxidant activity. The antioxidant activity was evaluated using three methods. The content of phenolic acids was determined by HPLC, and the raw protein content was estimated by the Kjeldahl method. Depending on the treatment, variations in the quantity of individual phenolic acids with up to 90% higher concentration as compared to the control were observed. Controlled usage of certain plant extracts can increase the concentration of the target group of bioactive compounds in the samples. The synergistic effect of proteins and phenolic compounds on the antioxidant activity of extracts was detected. The results of this study are not only important from the aspect of plant resistance to various types of stress, but also when considering soybean as a functional food.

AB - Composites are materials that reach many users and therefore, it is necessary to correlate the properties of every component on the behaviour of the material. Alumina is used as reinforcement with the aim of improving hardness. It was proven that the hardness depends on the crystal structure of the reinforcement. As the hardness is related to cavitation resistance, the influence of different reinforcements on the composite cavitation resistance was studied. Alumina and iron(III) oxide doped alumina particles were prepared by the sol-gel technique, starting from soluble salts of both elements. The gels were calcined at three different temperatures: 700, 800 and 900 degrees C. Poly(methyl methacrylate), PMMA, was used as the polymer matrix reinforced with alumina particles. The reinforcement content of all the samples was 3 wt %. Cavitation erosion of the samples was measured using a standard ultrasonic vibratory setup with a stationary sample. The cavitation resistance of the samples was studied using the classical mass loss method and the surface defects resulting from cavitation were analyzed. The morphologies of the defects after 1 h of cavitation erosion were examined by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The images were characterized using the image analysis procedure. The results showed that the alumina crystal structure resulting at different calcination temperatures influences the defect morphology, cavitation resistance and the hardness of the composites.

AB - In this paper, the influence of parameters of laser processing (drilling, cutting, welding and laser shock peening) on microstructure of superalloy Nimonic 263 are investigated. Drilling and welding process are carried out on the Nd: YAG laser model LS-HTS Mobile P160. When drilling the holes, the parameters of pulse frequency (5 Hz, 7 Hz and 9 Hz) and the pulses duration (1.8 ms to 3.6 ms) are varied. The microstructure is investigated and geometrical and metallurgical characteristics of the holes are determined.Cutting is carried out on the laser BISTRONIC, (2000), BISTAR 3015. The parameters that were varied are as follows: the average laser power, laser velocity, the pressure of the assisting gas and the focus position. Based on the geometrical characteristics of the cuts and surface morphology the optimal parameters are discussed and defined. The laser welded joints of Nimonic 263, in addition to microscopic examination and surface profilometry, were subjected to the destructive testing. During the laser shock peening, the samples were exposed to laser light at a wavelength of 1064 nm and 532 nm, with the number of accumulated pulses 50, 100 and 200. The operating laser was Nd: YAG EKSPLO, SL212P model. Structural analysis of Nimonic 263 was carried out using light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and EDS analysis. Microhardness measurements were carried out using the Vickers method under load of 9,81N. Profilometry was performed on a contactless profilometer Zygo Newview 7100.
AB - U ovom radu, proučavan je uticaj parametara određenih procesa laserske tehnike obrade materijala superlegure Nimonic 263 - bušenje, rezanje, zavarivanje i mehanička obrada laserom.

AB - The aim of this study was to examine the influence of cavitation erosion on the morphology of defects formed on the surfaces of alumina-based materials. The alumina-based samples were exposed to cavitation erosion for 42 min. The damages that occurred were monitored at predefined time intervals by measuring the mass loss and observing the sample surfaces. Digital images of surfaces were processed using an image analysis software package to define morphological characteristics of the damages occurred. The calculated morphological parameters were subjected to analysis by pattern recognition techniques to correlate the appearance of particular morphological characteristics with the behavior of the material during cavitation erosion. The newly established method in describing cavitation erosion which uses pattern recognition approach for treatments of morphological parameters calculated for damages by image analysis tools gave the results efficient for material characterization as the traditional one.

AB - This paper presents the optimized technological process for obtaining stable calcium carbonate dispersion (CaCO3) in accordance to the standard prescribed in the paper industry. The reason for using CaCO3 in paper production is their low price when compared to the cellulose fibers and its ability to improve the properties of the final product. However, CaCO3 is alkaline filler that has relatively poor chemical stability that may affect the characteristics of the paper. For this reasons it is necessary to optimize the technology for obtaining a stable dispersion of CaCO3 with particles diameter in range 1 mm lt Dsr lt 2 mm, a pH of 9.7 and a viscosity of η lt 300 mPas. Diglycerintereftalate (DGTP) (dispersant - D1) and diethylene glycolterephthalate (DEGTP) (dispenser - D2) were synthesized from the waste poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) in addition to commercial - sodium tripolyphosphate (Na-TPP-D3) used in the grinding process. The pH stabilization was established with the addition of glycine/NaOH buffer, which allowed obtaining the dispersion with standard values of particle size, pH, viscosity and stability.

abstract = "This paper presents the optimized technological process for obtaining stable calcium carbonate dispersion (CaCO3) in accordance to the standard prescribed in the paper industry. The pH stabilization was established with the addition of glycine/NaOH buffer, which allowed obtaining the dispersion with standard values of particle size, pH, viscosity and stability., U radu je opisana optimizacija tehnološkog procesa dobijanja stabilne disperzije kalcijum-karbonata (CaCO3) po standardima koje propisuje papirna industrija. AB - In the present study, an aluminum alloy A356 composite with addition of 5 wt% fly ash was synthesized and subjected to the cavitation erosion resistance test in order to find out if this material can be used in conditions where the cavitation erosion resistance is expected. Obtained results were compared with that of as-cast aluminum A356 alloy, confirming that composite possessed better cavitation erosion resistance than original alloy and that fly ash can be used as an effective reinforcement in metal matrix composites production. Scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy was used for microstructural analysis. Phase identification of fly ash was carried out using X-ray diffraction analysis. Several methods for monitoring the cavitation erosion resistance of A356 alloy and corresponding composite were applied, such as: mass loss (Delta m), volume loss (Delta V), level of surface degradatiom (P/Po) and pit depth.

AB - Synthesis of an unconventional resin based on 4-vinylpyridine (4-VP) and its Cu(II) sorption behavior were studied. Three samples of macroporous crosslinked poly(4-vinylpyridine-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) (P4VPE) with different porosity parameters were prepared by suspension copolymerization by varying the n-heptane amount in the inert component. The samples were characterized by mercury porosimetry, elemental analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The sorption of P4VPE for Cu(II) ions, determined under non-competitive conditions, was relatively rapid, i.e., the maximum capacity was reached within 30 min. The maximum experimental sorption capacity for the sample with the highest values of pore diameter and specific pore volume (sample 3, Q(eq) = 89 mg g(-1)) was 17.5 times higher than for the sample with the lowest values of pore diameter and specific pore volume (sample 1, Q(eq) = 5.1 mg g(-1)). Since the values for pyridine content in all P4VPE samples were almost the same, it was concluded that the porosity parameters have predominant influence on Cu(II) sorption rates on P4VPE. The sorption behavior and the rate-controlling mechanisms were analyzed using six kinetic models (pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, Elovich, intraparticle diffusion, Bangham and Boyd models). XPS study clarified the nature of the formed P4VPE-Cu(II) species.

AB - The surface defects on alumina-based refractory arising from thermal shock were studied using image analysis and statistical tools. Alumina-based refractory specimens were prepared by adding a different amount of fibers into their original composition and compacted on different pressures. Obtained specimens were subjected to thermal shock, and induced surface defects were characterized by their morphological parameters determined using the image analysis procedure. The influence of preparation conditions on the surface defects morphology was studied using principle component analysis. It was shown that morphological parameters of defects vary corresponding to the composition and preparation conditions of ceramic material.

AB - Background: Portable energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (pEDXRF) spectrometry analysis was applied for the characterisation of archaeological ceramic findings from three Neolithic sites in Serbia. Two dimension reduction techniques, principal component analysis (PCA) and scattering matrices-based dimension reduction were used to examine the possible classification of those findings, and to extract the most discriminant features. Results: A decision-making procedure is proposed, whose goal is to classify unknown ceramic findings based on their elemental compositions derived by pEDXRF spectrometry. As a major part of decision-making procedure, the possibilities of two dimension reduction methods were tested. Scattering matrices-based dimension reduction was found to be the more efficient method for the purpose. Linear classifiers designed based on the desired output allowed for 7 of 8 unknown samples from the test set to be correctly classified. Conclusions: Based on the results, the conclusion is that despite the constraints typical of the applied analytical technique, the elemental composition can be considered as viable information in provenience studies. With a fully-developed procedure, ceramic artefacts can be classified based on their elemental composition and well-known provenance.

AB - dThe possibility of sorption of technetium-99 in the form of pertechnetate anion (TcO(4)(-)) and the sorption kinetics for removing TcO(4)(-) from aqueous solution by chelating polymers based on glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) were investigated. Two samples of macroporous crosslinked poly(glycidyl methacrylate-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) (PGME), with different amount of the crosslinker (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, EGDMA), were synthesized by suspension copolymerization and functionalized with diethylene triamine (deta). We propose that nonspecific sorption of pertechnetate anion via electrostatic interactions takes place at the protonated amino groups of macroporous crosslinked copolymer. The results of batch experiments per-formed at pH 1-14 showed fast sorption kinetics for removing TcO(4)(-) by amino-functionalized PGME-deta in a wide range of pH, that is, from 1.0 to 9.0. Almost complete removal of TcO(4)(-) (91-98%) was reached within 180 min in the stated pH range (1.0-9.0), with the sorption half-times of under 25 min. The partitioning coefficients of linear adsorption isotherms, with 180-min equilibrium time, reach the high values of 2130 mL g(-1) and 1698 mL g(-1) for the two samples of synthesized PGME-deta.
