AB - This study addresses the influence of heat treatment and alumina coating on the corrosion of EN 1.4713 steel in 0.1 mol dm(-3) sulfuric acid. The corrosion characteristics of three different samples are examined using the open circuit potential measurements, Tafel extrapolation, linear polarization resistance, weight-loss method, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results showed that the application of the weight-loss method yielded similar values to the electrochemical method in the first 24 h. A decrease in corrosion rate, in a similar manner, was observed for all three samples. The largest deacceleration was obtained for the alumina/titania-coated sample. It was obtained that the heat treatment significantly increased the corrosion resistance, but only in the first 24 h. The alumina/titania coating decreases the corrosion rate by approximately 30 times at the beginning of the corrosion exposure and by nearly 300 times after 240 h. This coating could have a significant influence on construction design, which uses ferritic stainless steel as the material.

AB - In this paper the multistage membrane pertraction (simultaneous extraction and reextraction) of phenol with linear monoalkyl cyclohexane (IMACH) as a carrier and sodium hydroxide solution as a strip, in laboratory scaled pertractors with polysulphone hollow-fiber membranes, was investigated. Two types of pertractors were used, one being "fiber-in-fiber" type, and the other "fiber-by-fiber" type, both with parallel countercurrent flow of three independent liquid streams (feed, extragent and strip). The best results were obtained with feed and strip flow rates low and equal, while the organic flow rate was four times higher. Efficiency is higher for lower phenol concentration in feed, and higher alkalinity of stripping solution. It was shown that the pertraction of phenol with IMACH as an organic carrier is an extraction step-limited process. For that reason the "fiber-by-fiber" type of pertractor offers better constructive possibilities, since it enables combining larger number of fibers for extraction step with a corresponding smaller number of fibers for the Stripping step, which is not possible in the case of the "fiber-in-fiber" type of pertractor.

AB - In this study, the membrane extraction of phenol-4-aminoantipyrine complex with the series of aliphatic alcohols was investigated by monitoring the efficiency of the process. A commercial polysulphone hollow-fiber membrane module was used in all experiments. The effects of feed and extragent stream flow rates, the ratio of feed to extragent volumes, feed concentrations of phenol and 4-aminoantipyrine and ionic strength of the feed on the efficiency of the preconcentration process were investigated. It has been shown that the efficiency of the studied process increases with decreasing the solubility of alcohols in water, but decreases with increasing their viscosity. In the investigated series of alcohols 1-hexanol showed the highest efficiency.
