The resistance of ceramics to thermal shock can be characterized using either a parameter of their resistance to fracture R or the critical temperature difference Delta T-c = Delta T-c (Bi). It is demonstrated that a correlation exists between the values of R and Delta T-c. Experiments were performed on alumina-based ceramic materials (99.8 and 86% Al2O3), glass-bonded mullite, and a borosilicate glass. Three equations were used to describe the dependence of the critical temperature difference on the Blot number. A relationship between the critical temperature difference and the parameter R was considered and the best correlation between the values of R and Delta T-c was established using statistical analysis techniques. It is shown that the correlation can be described satisfactorily in terms of a linear dependence.en
