| sr |
dc.description.abstract | Artificial sweeteners are substances that are widely used in food products, medicines and oral care products. However, the latest research has shown that, as a result of wastewater effluents and untreated wastewater discharges, traces of these compounds can be found in natural waters. Due to their ecotoxicity and potentially harmful health effects, artificial sweeteners are regarded as new emerging pollutants. Furthermore, due to environmental persistence and incomplete removal in wastewater treatment plants, some of them, such as acesulfame and sucralose, can be used as indicators of municipal wastewater pollution. In this paper, mass spectra of individual standard solutions of artificial sweeteners acesulfame K, saccharin, cyclamate and aspartame were analyzed. Mass spectra of the analytes were obtained using linear ion trap as a mass spectrometer, and electrospray ionization was used as an ionization technique. The most intensive ions in the MS spectrum were further fragmented, with the optimization of collision energy to obtain the most intensive and stable fragment ions. Also, the influence of mobile phase composition and addition of the additives on the intensity of the selected ions was tested. Based on results of MSn analysis, specific fragmentation reactions for quantitative determination and confirmation of analyte's presence were selected. | |
