The subject of this work is the study of nanostructured sodium niobate obtained by a controlled crystallisation of glass. The glass samples of the composition within the system NaNbO3-SiO2-Al2O3 were prepared by melting and then crystallised by a heat treatment method at previously determined temperatures and times. Transparent, nanostructured glass ceramic, based on NaNbO3 crystals, was obtained. Infrared absorption spectroscopy analysis of the prepared glass samples shows that the sodium ions are situated in a glass network nearer to SiO4-tetrahedra than NbO6-octahedra. XRD analysis of the crystallised glass samples shows that phase separation precedes the nucleation of NaNbO3 in glass matrix.en
