Analytical model for the determination of bending properties of glass-epoxy composites

Abstract

Mechanical properties of composite materials are conditioned by their structure and depend from the characteristic of structural components. In this paper the analytical model has been shown with which the bending properties can be determined on the basis of known mechanical properties of tension and pressure. Getting these characteristics in connection is justified having in mind the mechanic of fracture during bending where fracture happens on the outer layer which is subjected to bending while break ends on the layer subjected to pressure. In the paper are given the values of tension, pressure and bending properties got while doing certain mechanical test. By comparison of numeric results of bending properties got on the basis of model with the experimentally got results their satisfactory matching was seen. According to that it is shown that this model can be used for some future research to determine bending properties without experiments.

Mehanička svojstva kompozitnih materijala su uslovljena njihovom strukturom i zavise od svojstava strukturnih komponenata. U ovom radu prikazan je analitički model kojim se na osnovu poznatih zateznih i pritisnih mehaničkih svojstava mogu odrediti savojna svojstva. Dovođenje u vezu ovih svojstava je opravdano imajući u vidu mehaniku loma pri savijanju gde do loma uzorka dolazi sa strane spoljnjeg sloja koji je opterećen na zatezanje dok se lom završava na sloju opterećenom na pritisak. U radu su date i vrednosti zateznih, pritisnih i savojnih svojstava dobijene izvođenjem odgovarajućih eksperimentalnih mehaničkih ispitivanja. Poređenjem numeričkih rezultata savojnih svojstava dobijenih na osnovu modela sa eksperimentalno dobijenim rezultatima uočena je njihova zadovoljavajuća usaglašenost. Samim tim pokazano je da se ovaj model može koristiti u nekim budućim istraživanjima za određivanje savojnih svojstava bez izvođenja ispitivanja.
