AB - In this work, the direct and indirect removal of Acid Blue 25 (AB25) from water by using cold atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) has been demonstrated. APPJ with a pin electrode type configuration operating with argon as a working gas was used as a plasma source for treatments. In this configuration, argon plasma was formed in the contact with surrounding air over the liquid surface. The plasma was driven by using a high voltage radio frequency (RF) power supply. The system was characterized by the measurement of electrical characteristics and by employing optical emission spectroscopy (OES). The electrical characterization gave information about the voltages and currents, i.e., working points of the discharge, as well as power deposition to the sample. OES recorded the emission spectra and confirmed several existing reactive species in the gas phase of the plasma system. During the direct treatment, AB25-containing solution was directly exposed to APPJ. The direct treatment was performed by modifying various experimental parameters, such as initial AB25 concentrations, treatment times, and input powers. In the indirect treatment, AB25 was treated by using plasma activated water (PAW). The characterization of PAW was performed and various plasma-induced long-lived species, such as nitrate (NO3−), nitrite (NO2−) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) have been quantified using colorimetric techniques. Besides, blank experiments have been conducted with main constituents in PAW, where AB25 was treated individually by NO3−, NO2−, and H2O2 and with a mixture of these three species. As expected, with the direct treatment almost complete removal of AB25 was achieved. The measurements also provided an insight into the kinetics of the degradation of AB25. In the indirect treatment, PAW removed a significant amount of AB25 within 17 days. In the blank experiments, H2O2 containing solutions created a favourable influence on removal of AB25 from liquid.

AB - The study aims to evaluate the effects of non-thermal atmospheric plasma (NTAP) treatments on dentin wetting and surface free energy (SFE) and compare the effects of NTAP treatment, etch-and-rinse, and self-etch protocols for application of universal adhesives. Materials and methods: Mid-coronal dentin of intact third molars was used to measure contact angles of distilled water, ethylene-glycol, and diiodomethane and calculate SFE following different NTAP preset treatments (feeding gas consisting of pure He, He + 1% O 2 , He + 1.5% O 2 ), power input (1 or 3 W), and tip-to-surface distance (2, 4, or 8 mm). Contact angles of reference liquids and SFE of dentin following He + 1.5% O 2 at 3-W and 4-mm treatment was compared to phosphoric acid etching. Contact angles of Single Bond Universal (SBU; 3M ESPE) and Clearfil Universal Bond (CUB; Kuraray Noritake) were measured following NTAP, etch-and-rinse, and self-etch protocols. Results: NTAP significantly reduced contact angles of reference liquids and increased dentin SFE compared to untreated dentin (p < 0.05). O 2 intensified the effect of He NTAP (p < 0.05). NTAP and phosphoric acid increased dentin polarity and Lewis base surface characteristics. Phosphoric acid increased contact angles of adhesives compared to the self-etch protocol (p < 0.05). NTAP resulted in lower adhesive contact angles than phosphoric acid, the difference being statistically significant for CUB (p [removed] 0.05). Conclusions: He NTAP with and without O 2 increased dentin wetting and SFE, surpassing the effect of phosphoric acid and lowering adhesive contact angles. NTAP produced no apparent micro-morphological changes on dentin surface comparable to acid etching. Clinical significance: NTAP treatment of dentin prior to adhesive application increases dentin wetting and surface free energy facilitating better adhesive distribution on dentin surface compared to phosphoric acid etching and similar to the “self-etch” application protocol.

AB - This study was aimed to examine the possibility of using RF plasma at low pressure for the surface activation of polyester fabrics in order to improve the binding efficiency of colloidal TiO2 nanoparticles. Colloidal TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized without stabilizers by acid hydrolysis method. Air and argon were used as plasma gases. Polyester fabrics modified by RF plasma and TiO2 nanoparticles exhibited excellent antibacterial efficiency against E. coli which was preserved after five washing cycles. The presence of TiO2 nanoparticles contributed to a significant increase in UV protection factor (UPF) of fabrics. These values correspond to UPF rating of 50+, which designates the maximum UV protection. Additionally, irradiated polyester fabrics loaded with TiO2 nanoparticles demonstrated satisfactory self-cleaning efficiency.

AB - The aim of this study was to highlight the potential of recycled wool-based nonwoven material for removal of crude, motor, diesel, base and vegetable oil from water. Sorption capacities of the sorbent differently treated (low-temperature plasma, biopolymer chitosan and hydrogen peroxide), oil retention, buoyancy in static and dynamic conditions as well as sorbent reusability determined. The results indicated that wool even as a recycled material showed high sorption capacity for different oils. Oil retention for untreated sorbent is excellent even after 5 minutes when the equlibrium is achieved. Untreated and CHT treated sorbent showed good buoyancy unlike LTP and H2O2 treated sorbents. Sorbent exhibited good reusability since even after five sorption cycles in oil medium without water, the decrease in sorption capacity did not exceed the 50% of initial value.

abstract = "U ovom radu korišćen je sorbent na bazi vune sekundarnog porekla u cilju uklanjanja sirove nafte, dizel goriva, motornog, baznog i biljnog ulja (adsorbata) iz vode. Sorbent se može višekratno upotrebiti jer i posle 5 ciklusa sorpcije zadržava sorpcioni kapacitet veći od 50% vrednosti sorpcionog kapaciteta posle prvog ciklusa sorpcije., The aim of this study was to highlight the potential of recycled wool-based nonwoven material for removal of crude, motor, diesel, base and vegetable oil from water. AB - The objective of this study was to highlight the possibility of treating the cotton
fabrics with fluorocarbon plasmas in order to obtain water and soil repellent material. A
treatment of cotton fabrics was carried out using the low-pressure RF inductively coupled
C6F6 and C6F14 plasmas. The influence of plasma parameters (power, time, flow) on fabric
wettability and whiteness were considered. The fiber surface morphology changes were
assessed by AFM analysis. The application C6F6 plasma insignificantly affected the
wettability of cotton fabric whereas C6F14 plasma treatment led to a considerable increase
in fabric hydrophobicity. Both plasmas brought about decrease in whiteness degree of
cotton fabrics.

AB - Low-temperature plasma treatment of hemp fabric causes an increase of dyeing rate, final dye exhaustion and Kubelka-Munk values of dyed samples. The positive effect of plasma treatment is more prominent in case of dyeing with C.I. Acid Blue 113 than with C.I. Direct Red 81. These changes could be explained by plasma etching and oxidation effect on the fibre surface. Untreated and plasma treated samples show similar and low colour fastness values, which were considered satisfactory taking into account that cold dyeing procedure was carried out.
