AB - Most serious weldment failures have catastrophic consequences in terms of damage to other equipment, loss of production, and risks to worker health and safety. For the above reasons, there is a tendency to find the line between safety and disaster, and this requires a guarantee of the integrity of the welded structure even if a crack is present. The structural and mechanical heterogeneity of a welded joint affects its resistance to cracking in both the elastic and plastic regions. Therefore, it is important to define the test method and the position of the fatigue crack. The behavior of an elasto-plastic material, during stable crack growth can be described by the J-Δa diagram. As the crack propagates, a point on the curve is defined, which represents the critical value of the J-integral. The aim of this experiment is to determine JIC value and the procedure is reflected in the determination of the R-curve, i.e., the J‒Δa curve, which consists of the value of the J-integral for uniform crack increments Δa. In this paper, precracked SEN(B) specimens with the fatigue crack positioned in the weld metal (WM) were tested according to standard ASTM E1820 at room temperature (RT), -20 0C and -30 0C.

AB - The influence of temperature on the fatigue crack growth parameter, was analyzed by testing chromium-molybdenum steel of the new generation additionally alloyed with vanadium, designed for high temperatures application. The paper presents a comparison of the fatigue threshold value ΔKth and the fatigue crack growth rate da/dN of the specimens taken from the pipe made of virgin steel, tested at room (RT) and operating (HT) temperatures of 540 ◦C. The influence of the location of the notch and crack initiation, as well as the test temperature, have a decisive effect on the fatigue threshold values ΔKth of the chromium-molybdenum alloyed steel of the new generation additionally alloyed with vanadium for high temperatures application.

AB - Fracture mechanics, as a scientific discipline dealing with the study of cracks in welded structures, has defined parameters and introduced new test methods in order to better determine the tendency to crack growth, critical conditions for rapid fracture development, material resistance to rapid crack propagation and better definition of other parameters for assessing the behaviour of the material and the safety of the structure in the presence of cracks. In this paper, the focus is on determination of the parameter of elastic-plastic mechanics of J-integral, more precisely, on examination of the critical value of J-integral (JIc) of the welded joint of HSLA steel. The position of the tip of the fatigue crack and the properties of the region where fracture propagation occurs are main indicators of influence of the heterogeneity of the NN-70 welded structure and mechanical properties. Resistance to cracking in the welded joint shows that the heterogeneity has a major impact on the resistance to crack initiation and propagation, in elastic as well as in the plastic region.

AB - Due to its superior strength at high temperatures P/T91 steel is often applied in the chemical, petrochemical and fossil-fired power generation industries. The high strength is achieved by a suitable martensitic microstructure after appropriate heat treatment procedure. Welding is the most important process of joining the components in such plants, and the heat-affected zone is often the weakest part of these structures. Having in mind that the welded joint is the weakest area, it is necessary to know its properties and assess the level of its degradation. It was found that the life-limiting factor in case of P/T91 steel welded structures are the cracks located in the heat affected zones, more precisely in its intercritical region. In present paper the results of the fracture toughness measurement carried out on simulated P91 steel ICHAZ specimens produced using a weld simulator has been presented. The tests were done on two types of simulated specimens, those subjected to the subsequent PWHT and with those left untreated (without PWHT), at room temperature and 600 degrees C. For the J-integral estimation pin-loaded SEN(T) specimens were tested in plane stress conditions using the unloading compliance method of deriving a single specimen resistance curve and the eta-method.

AB - The behavior of steel in low-cycle fatigue (LCF) is tested experimentally, in accordance with ISO 12106:2017 (E) and/or ASTM E 606-04. For this purpose, smooth specimens which are exposed to low-cycle fatigue at several levels of regulated strains and/or loads at room, elevated or reduced temperatures are used. Stress–strain response at LCF has the shape of an ideal hysteresis loop. The strain range Δε corresponds to overall loop width, while the stress range Δσ corresponds to its overall height. The paper presents a method for determining the intersection of the idealized hysteresis loop and the positive part of the strain axis in order to determine the values of elastic, Δεe/2, and plastic, Δεp/2, components of the strain amplitude to characterize the behavior of steel under low cyclic fatigue. The values of elastic and plastic components of the strain amplitude are needed to determine the characteristic curves of low-cycle fatigue, which describe the behavior of steel under the loading of low-cycle fatigue.

The aim of testing the quality of the material of the components exposed to low cycle fatigue (LCF) in many industries: Nuclear, aerospace, mechanical, civil engineering and shipbuilding. In order to ensure the reliability and consistency of the results from different laboratories, it is necessary to collect all test data using test and data processing methodologies that are in accordance with a number of key points of ISO 12106: 2017 and/or ASTM E 606-04 standards. This paper defines a new data processing methodology after the LCF testing of steel.

AB - Steel grade 14MoV6 3 is used for manufacturing of boilers and steam pipelines designed for steam temperatures up to 560 °C. This paper presents the numerical simulation of a CT-specimen, using the finite element method. The analysis was performed using Ansys Workbench R21, and represents the initial stage of extensive research involving the behaviour of 14MoV6 3 steel. The goal was to simulate the real experimental conditions, including boundary conditions and loads, which were defined in accordance with relevant standards, and to obtain representative results. The temperature dependent mechanical properties needed for the simulation of plastic behaviour of such specimens under tensile loads were obtained from the experimental data and the literature.

AB - This paper is devoted to the ductile-brittle transition behavior of high strength low alloyed structural steel NIOMOL 490K. This steel grade is designed for welded pressure vessels exposed to dynamic loads, operating at temperatures below zero, and that is why it must have acceptable toughness. Due to its importance for the safety assessment of pressure vessels, a characterization of this steel with Charpy V-notch test in range of temperature between-60 0C and +60 0C was undertaken. Ductile-to-brittle transition temperature curves were generated in the present study by using instrumented Charpy pendulum impact test on V-notch specimens. Notches were located in the parent material, heat-affected zone and weld metal. The nil-ductility temperature and tensile properties in temperature range from -60 0C to +60 0C are presented in this paper. We used different test temperatures to better understand ductile-to brittle transition response than just use either Charpy energy or other related ductility criteria.

AB - The most important characteristics for service safety of welded joints are those describing crack initiation and growth caused by variable loading. Crack initiation and growth caused by variable loading is the subject of numerous investigations. This paper shows the determination of parameters of the fatigue crack for constituents of welded joints produced of high strength low alloyed steel. The crack growth law of Paris establishes the relation between the applied variable load quantity or the corresponding stress intensity factor range and crack growth per cycle. Results have shown that the position of the notch and crack initiation affect the values of the stress intensity range of fatigue threshold Delta Kth and parameters in the Paris' equation.

AB - Broken test tubes for low-cycle fatigue testing of Nionicral 70 (NN-70) parent material (PM) steel and simulated heat-affected zones (SHAZ) were used to produce samples for cavitation resistance testing. Ultrasonic vibrational cavitation method (stationary sample method) was applied for testing in laboratory conditions. The test conditions and procedure, sample preparation and interpretation of results are defined by ASTM G32. The surfaces of the NN-70 PM and SHAZ steel samples were exposed to cavitation and damage monitoring over time. Measuring the weight loss of samples on the analytical balance after a certain time allowed us to determine the cavitation velocity as a measure of the material's resistance to the effect of cavitation. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was applied to monitor variations in surface morphology with changing test time. On the basis of the results of the cavitation resistance test, the morphologies of the surface damage for different exposure times of the cavitation of PM and SHAZ steel NN-70 samples were analyzed, as well as the mechanisms that led to the damage of the sample surfaces.

AB - Brittle damages have been examined widely since welding became common practice when it comes to carrying out robust structures. Welded structure of the ship hull has to be continuous. Brittle damages that occur on hull structures have always been examined thoroughly. Cracks are most commonly initiated at locations where stress concentrators exist. These concentrators can originate due to flaws that occur during the design phase or due to mistakes that occur during the assembly of the structure. When it comes to failures and damages that occur at ship structures, it has been noticed that damages due to brittleness practically always happen at low temperatures. Impact test analysis is significant due to the fact that it replicates the ductile to brittle transition of steel in practically identical range of temperatures for all ship structures. Impact of ductile-brittle transition temperature is an important factor especially because there have been many ship failures and damages in history. In ship structures made of welded joints of high strength low-alloy (HSLA) steels with their segments (parent metal, weld metal and heat-affected- zone), the toughness test determines the tendency of steel to brittle fracture, respectively the tendency to increase brittleness during exploitation. Parameters obtained by testing the properties of plasticity are the fundamental for the composition of ship structures with the aim of realize strengths under tested load. The test results of high strength low-alloy steel toughness assessment at different test temperatures show that temperature significantly affects the impact toughness of steels and their alloys.

AB - The cycle loading of a material results in the modification of its properties and so in this paper is presented the behaviour of the fatigue life using low-cycle fatigue parameters. By applying the Coffin-Manson equation in fatigue loading of the tested specimens, the crack initiation has been computed. The stabilized hysteresis loop is a characteristic of all hystereses and it is used to determine all of the parameters for the low cycle fatigue (LCF) assessment. abstract = "The cycle loading of a material results in the modification of its properties and so in this paper is presented the behaviour of the fatigue life using low-cycle fatigue parameters. By applying the Coffin-Manson equation in fatigue loading of the tested specimens, the crack initiation has been computed. The stabilized hysteresis loop is a characteristic of all hystereses and it is used to determine all of the parameters for the low cycle fatigue (LCF) assessment. The experimental results have given us important information on the understanding of fatigue behaviour of high strength low-alloyed steel (HSLA) and its welded joints.",

AB - Most of the serious weldment failures lead to catastrophic consequences in terms of damage of other equipment, loss of production, and risks to workers' health and safety. Hence, there is motivation to find margin between safety and disaster. This necessitates guaranteeing the integrity of a welded structure even if a crack is present. Therefore, influence of the material inhomogeneity and residual stresses on deformation and fracture behavior needs to be described precisely. Fracture mechanics parameters J - integral and CTOD have attracted great interest in recent years. Two three point bending specimens of base metal (BM) and weld metal (WM) were tested according to standard BS EN ISO 15653. Than, a two dimensional finite element analysis was performed in Ansys Workbench software to calculate J-integral, and compare with experimental results. The aim of this work is to explore the possibility of using the test results in the reliable prediction of weldment fracture.

AB - In present paper, based on the results of the experimental study of the behaviour of the samples made of a HSLA steel, in the form of round smooth specimens (RSS) under LCF conditions (with controlled and completely reversible strain Δε/2 = const, Rε = εmin/εmax = −1, according to ISO 12106: 2003 (E)) and square specimens (SqS) under conditions of HCF conditions (with controlled one-way variable load on tension with σmin = const, according to ISO 12110-1:2013), a computational stress analysis was performed using the FE method and the behaviour of this steel in the fatigue behaviour simulation (LCF and HCF) in SolidWorks programme was shown. On the basis of the performed analysis of the results of the stress-strain state and the determination of the life using the life isolines for a particular load cycle involving the entire RSS ligament, i.e. SqS for a particular load in a wide range of LCF and HCF loads and comparison with the results of experimental tests, a figure i.e. graphical presentation was given and conclusions were drawn that justify the efforts for numerical assessment of the life cycle of the loaded machine parts.

AB - In order to prevent the premature failure of steam pipeline produced of molybdenum-vanadium steel, the experimental tests were performed to measure fracture toughness and to determine the mechanical behaviour of cracked pipes. A finite element method was used to calculate the fracture behaviour of the pressurized pipeline made of 14MoV6-3 steel based on the J-integral computation. The J-R curves were experimentally obtained by the elastic unloading compliance method for the single edge notched bend specimens and compared with those obtained using finite element method. A two dimensional finite element analysis was performed in Ansys Workbench software to determine the stress distribution and calculate J-integral values for the selected specimen geometry. Special attention was paid to the influence of applied boundary conditions on the accuracy of J-integral values, as well as to the influence of mesh density. It is shown that numerically obtained J-values significantly depend on the number of nodes used to apply displacements. However, if recommendations proposed in this paper are implemented, the accuracy of calculated values is satisfactory and successful failure analysis can be carried out. This approach can be useful in engineering applications where time saving and costs reducing are required.

AB - Steel grade 14MoV6-3 is a low-carbon microalloyed steel with addition of chromium and molybdenum. This grade is designed mainly for power industry applications, withstanding operating at elevated temperatures. In this paper, mechanical properties of steel grade 14MoV6-3 and methodology of calculation of critical values of the J-integral are presented. The level of damage is determined by analyzing the virgin material of the same grade. The focus of presented investigation is on the experimental J integral determination, where critical values of the J-integral (J(IC)) are compared with the values obtained by using the finite element methods (FEM). FEM model was defined on the basis of experimental conditions and obtained numerical values should confirm our experimental results.

AB - Experimental research on the behaviour of high-strength low-alloy steel ( HSLA)exposed to low-cycle fatigue (LCF) with controlled and fully reversible strain (Delta epsilon/2 = const, R epsilon =epsilon(min)/epsilon(max) = -1) has been analysed. LCF tests are performed on a series of smooth bar shaped specimens, 11 x 11 x 95 mm, parent metal (PM), welded joint (WJ) and simulated heat affected zone (SHAZ) of steel Nionikral 70 (NN-70) with semi-amplitude of controlled strain, Delta epsilon/2 = 0.40- 0.80. The results of the experimental investigation have given us important information on the understanding of fatigue behaviour of steel NN-70 and its welded joints. In this work the results of static and dynamic-, that is monotonous and fatigue behaviour of the material, are compared, which is a practical contribution to the assessment of the behaviour of PM and WJ of steel NN-70 exposed to effects of low cycle fatigue, i.e. monotonous and fatigue behaviour of the material.

AB - In the present paper, after calculation using the Finite Element Method (FEM), stress distribution on the model of a part of the pressure-tank mantle without welded joints (WJ), with transversal WJ, longitudinal WJ and cross point location of WJ is analyzed. Also, FEM calculation and comparative analysis of the effects of WJ on the stress distribution have been conducted using the tank for liquid carbon dioxide as an example, on which, in addition to the mantle sheet-metal and bottom with necessary openings and elements such as saddles with supports and hangers, transversal and longitudinal butt WJ, have been modelled.

AB - In present paper, the experimental research of the behaviour of high-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA) exposed to low-cycle fatigue (LCF) with controlled and fully reversible strain (Delta epsilon/2 = const, R epsilon = epsilon(min)/epsilon(max) = -1) has been analysed. Low-cycle fatigue tests were performed on a series of smooth specimens made of steel Nionikral 70 (NN-70), with semi-amplitude of controlled strain, Delta epsilon/2=0.35, 0.45, 0.50, 0.60, 0.70 and 0.80. Characterization and description of the low-cycle elastoplastic behaviour of the material by construction of characteristic curves of low-cycle fatigue are made using the characteristic hysteresis, load-strain force for each level of controlled strain, selected from the areas of stabilization. For the selection of stabilized hysteresis and processing of the results of low-cycle fatigue tests the recommendations of the ISO 12106:2003 (E) and ASTM E 606-04 standards were used, which in this work means to compare the two results. For each strain level characteristic stabilized hysteresis were selected, determined in accordance with recommendations of the ISO 12106:2003 (E) and ASTM E 606-04 standards, from which the data necessary for further processing of the results and finally for the construction of characteristic curves of low cycle fatigue were read. Constructed curves are compared, and the effect of selection of the recommendations from the standards on characterization of the behaviour of steel NN-70 estimated. The results of experimental investigation have given us important information on the understanding of fatigue behaviour of steel NN-70. In this work the results of static and dynamic, that is monotonous and fatigue behaviour of the material, were compared, which is a practical contribution to the assessment of the behaviour of steel NN-70 exposed to the effects of low-cycle fatigue, i.e. monotonous and fatigue behaviour of the material.

AB - Residual pyrolysis oil (RPO) produced as a by-product of naphtha steam pyrolysis was hydrogenated (160-280°C; 60 bar; trickle-bed reactor with Co-Mo/y-AlgOs) with the aim of suppressing the polymerization of the unsaturated compounds present in the oil (styrene, (-methylstyrene, 4-, 5- and 6- methyl-indene and others) which give a highly aromatic resin. The influence of temperature on the rate of hydrogenation was investigated at a constant liquid space velocity (LHSV) of 1 h-1 and hydrogen/oil ratio of 600 Nm3/m3, while the influence of liquid space velocity (1-3h-1) was analyzed at 200°C and 60 bar at the same hydrogen/oil ratio. GC and GC-MS analysis of the hydrogenated oil were carried out on the hydrogenated sample, as well as viscosity measurements, which showed that no polymerization occurred in the case of stabilized (hydrogenated) oil. The optimal hydrogenation temperature and LHSV values were 220°C and 1h-1 respectively. The result of the longterm hydrogenation test was used to study the kinetics of the catalyst deactivation process by determining the rate constants in the case of indene, 4-methyl-indene and 5- and 6-methyl-indene hydrogenation. Using the obtained rate constants, the conversion of the above compounds was mathematically simulated showing satisfactory agreement with the experimentally obtained values.
Relativna stabilnost viskoziteta hidrogenovanog pirolitičkog ulja ukazuje u kojoj meri je ulje stabilizovano i sprečene neželjene reakcije polimerizacije nezasićenih aromatskih jedinjenja.
