Biomedical Applications of Thermosensitive Hydrogels for Controlled/Modulated Piroxicam Delivery

AB  - The objectives of this study are the synthesis of thermosensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate), p(NiPAm-HPMet), hydrogels and the analysis of a drug-delivery system based on piroxicam, as a model drug, and synthesized hydrogels. A high pressure liquid chromatography method has been used in order to determine both qualitative and quantitative amounts of unreacted monomers and crosslinkers from polymerized hydrogels. Swelling kinetics and the order of a swelling process of the hydrogels have been analyzed at 10 and 40 °C. The copolymers’ thermal properties have been monitored by the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) method. DSC termograms have shown that melting occurs in two temperature intervals (142.36–150.72 °C and 153.14–156.49 °C). A matrix system with incorporated piroxicam has been analyzed by using FTIR and SEM methods. Structural analysis has demonstrated that intermolecular non-covalent interactions have been built between side-groups of copolymer and loaded piroxicam. Morphology of p(NiPAm-HPMet) after drug incorporation indicates the piroxicam presence into the copolymer pores. Kinetic parameters of the piroxicam release from hydrogels at 37 °C and pH 7.4 indicate that the fluid transport mechanism corresponds to Fickian diffusion. As a result, formulation of thermosensitive p(NiPAm-HPMet) hydrogels with incorporated piroxicam could be of interest for further testing as a drug carrier for modulated and prolonged release, especially for topical administration.

Temperature-Sensitive Hydrogels as Carriers for Modulated Delivery of Acetaminophen

AB  - The purposes of this study are the polymerization of temperature-sensitive copolymers based on N-isopropyl acrylamide and 10 mol % of 2-hydroxypropylmethacrylate, characterisations of their thermal, morphological and swelling properties, as well as the analysis of potential application in drug-delivery systems. Acetaminophen, the representative of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, was used as a model drug in this study. It is a common pain relief drug, which is also used for fever treatment. However, oral administration comes with certain health risks, mainly the overdose and frequent administration of up to four times a day. The goal of applying temperature-sensitive hydrogel is to enable extended administration once a day, depending on the body temperature. The swelling behavior of the obtained poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide-co-2-hydroxypropylmethacrylate) (p(NIPA/HPMA)) hydrogels and their temperature-sensitivity, kinetics and order of swelling processes at 18 and 38 °C were analyzed. The thermal properties of these hydrogels were observed by the DSC method, and the obtained thermograms showed both melting and glass transitions. The drug delivery system of p(NIPA/HPMA) hydrogels with loaded acetaminophen was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy methods. Structural analysis of FTIR spectra indicates that non-covalent intermolecular interactions of the type of hydrogen bonds were formed among functional groups of acetaminophen and side-chains of p(NIPA/HPMA) hydrogels. The surface structure of p(NIPA/HPMA) hydrogels after drug loading indicates the acetaminophen presence into the pores of the hydrogel network, and their loading efficiency was higher than 92%. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of acetaminophen, determined by the high-pressure liquid chromatography method, showed that about 90–99% of the loaded amount was released from p(NIPA/HPMA) hydrogels within 24 h. Kinetic parameters of the acetaminophen release under simulated gastrointestinal conditions were determined. Based on obtained results, the drug delivery system of temperature-sensitive p(NIPA/HPMA) hydrogels with loaded acetaminophen could be suitable for additional investigation for modulated drug administration, e.g., for extended drug administration.

AB  - In this study, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate) hydrogels were synthesized using free radical initiated copolymerization method. Four hydrogels with different cross-linker concentrations were prepared. Semi-crystalline, cross-linked copolymer networks were confirmed by FTIR, SEM and XRD analysis. Variation of swelling behaviour was monitored gravimetrically and thermo-responsiveness has been noticed. An application of synthesized thermo-responsive hydrogels as carriers for the modulated release of anti-inflammatory model drug was investigated. Moreover, naproxen loading into these hydrogels was also determined using FTIR, SEM and XRD techniques and release was analyzed using HPLC method at simulated physiological conditions. Swelling kinetic and mechanism of water transport, as well as diffusion of naproxen through the hydrogels were analyzed. Thus, the aim of this work was to study various compositions of obtained hydrogels and their possibility of application as a thermo-responsive carrier for prolonged naproxen release in order to evaluate as a potential candidate for drug carrier in future pharmaceutical applications.

AB  - 15 symmetric 1-methyl-2,6-bis[2-(substituted phenyl)ethenyl]pyridinium iodides were synthesized in this work. Their structures were characterized using IR, H-1 and C-13 NMR, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. DFT calculations indicated that s-trans/s-trans conformation prevail in all compounds. The effects of specific and non-specific solvent-solute interactions on the UV-Vis absorption maxima shifts were evaluated using linear solvation-free energy relationships (LSER), i.e., Kamlet-Taft and Catalan models. A linear free energy relationship (LFER) in the form of single substituent parameter equations (SSP) was used to postulate quantitative structure-property relations of substituent effect on NMR data. TD-DFT results showed dependence of electronic transition on the substituent effects. The push-pull character of these compounds was analyzed by differences in C-13 chemical shift of the ethylenic double bond in 2- and 6-positions of cross-conjugated with pyridinum central ring. Also, the quotient of the occupations for the bonding pi and anti-bonding pi* orbitals of this bond was considered. Good correlations of the selected parameter between double bond lengths with pi*/pi and C-13 chemical shift differences of the bridging group proved them to be adequate descriptor of push-pull character. Synthesized compounds were screened for the antioxidant activity, using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical methods, and results demonstrated moderate antioxidant potential.

AB  - The derivatives of isatin (1H-indole-2,3-dione) have already been reported to show a variety of biological activities. However, there have hitherto been no reports on the solvatochromic effects of isatin derivatives, and it could be of interest to study and relate them to their electronic structures, as a part of the characterisation of these compounds. Linear solvation energy relationships (LSER) were used to analyze the influence of the solvent on the shifts of the UV absorption maxima of investigated isatin derivatives, i.e., isatin based Schiff bases, using Kamlet-Taft model. Linear free energy relationships (LFER) were applied to the substituent-induced NMR chemical shifts (SCS) using a single substituent parameter (SSP). The obtained correlations together with theoretical calculations gave insight into the influence of the molecular conformation on the transmission of substituent effects, as well as on solute-solvent interactions. The molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) surface map was plotted over the optimized geometry of the molecules in order to visualize the electron density distribution and explain the origin of the solvent- solute interactions.

AB  - The aim of this work was the preparation of the inclusion complex of naproxen with 2- hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) in order to improve the physical and chemical properties of naproxen. The molecular inclusion complexes of naproxen with HP-β-CD were prepared by using the co-precipitation method in the solid state with the molar ratio of 1:1. The structure of the obtained complex was characterized by using FTIR, 1H NMR, UV-Vis and XRD methods. The testing of naproxen photostability by the UV-Vis method indicated the degradation to aromatic ketone, 2-acetyl-6-methoxynaphthalene. FTIR analysis showed that the degradation has started 15 days after the exposure of naproxen to daylight while the inclusion complex of naproxen:2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin was photostable for a period of 30 days.
AB  - Naproksen, (+)-(S)-2-(6-metoksinaftalen-2-il)propionska kiselina, je derivat 2-arilpropionske kiseline (profena) iz grupe nesteroidnih antiinflamatornih lekova koji u terapijskim dozama smanjuje biosintezu prostaglandina i snižava povišenu telesnu temperaturu. Ovaj slabo rastvoran i fotoosetljiv molekul se transformiše pod uticajem svetlosti dajući farmakološki neaktivne proizvode. Cilj ovog rada je priprema inkluzionog kompleksa naproksena sa 2-hidroksipropil-β-ciklodekstrinom (HP-β-CD) u cilju poboljšanja fizičko-hemijskih svojstava naproksena. Molekulski inkluzioni kompleks naproksena i HP-β-CD pripremljen je metodom koprecipitacije u čvrstom stanju u molskom odnosu 1:1. Za strukturnu karakterizaciju kompleksa, kompleksirajućeg agensa, odgovarajuće fizičke smeše i naproksena, korišćene su metode protonske nuklearne magnetne rezonance (1H-NMR), difrakcije rendgenskih zraka (XRD) i infracrvene spektrofotometrije sa Furijeovom transformacijom (FTIR). FTIR i UV-Vis metode korišćene su za analizu fotoosetljivih grupa naproksena u čistom i kompleksiranom obliku radi ispitivanja uticaja na fotostabilnost naproksena. Difraktogram inkluzionog kompleksa naproksen:2-hidroksipropil- β-ciklodekstrin ne sadrži pikove koji su karakteristični za difraktograme naproksena i HP-β-CD. Ovo ukazuje da je naproksen zaklonjen u šupljine domaćina prilikom molekularne inkapsulacije. Odsustvo karakterističnih pikova naproksena u FTIR spektru kompleksa ukazuje na formiranje supramolekularne strukture po tipu inkluzije. Hemijska pomeranja u 1H-NMR spektru nakon inkluzije naproksena u šupljine HP-β-CD, posebno H3, H6 i H9 protona i vodonika iz CH3 u HP-β-CD takođe ukazuju na formiranje molekulskog inkluzionog kompleksa. Ispitivanje fotostabilnosti naproksena, pomoću UV-Vis metode, ukazuje na degradaciju do aromatičnog ketona, 2-acetil-6-metoksinaftalena. FTIR analiza je pokazala da degradacija naproksena počinje nakon 15 dana izlaganja dnevnoj svetlosti i da je molekularnom inkapsulacijom on zaštićen od fotodegradacije za vremenski period od 30 dana.

The effect of the cross-linker content on the swelling properties of intelligent gels

AB  - This paper presents the procedure for the synthesis of hydrogels based on N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and 2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate (HPMet) using dioxan as a solvent. Hydrogels were obtained by radical polymerization using different contents of ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a cross-linker and benzoyl peroxide as the initiator. In the FTIR spectra of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co- 2-hydroxypropylmethacrylate) (p(NIPAM-HPMet)) xerogel, new absorption bands are present and there are no specific bands characteristic of a monomer NIPAM, which indicates that copolymerization was performed. SEM micrographs show porous surfaces of xerogels. The aim of this work was the investigation of the swelling behavior for all synthesized hydrogels with different cross-linker content at the temperature from 20 to 40°C. The sample of p(NIPAM-HPMet) with the lowest cross-linker content reached the highest swelling degree at 20°C (α=20.23). The degree of swelling decreased with increa-sing the cross-linker content and temperature, so the samples with highest cross-linker content at 40°C reached the swelling degree of 2.05.
AB  - U radu je izvršena sinteza hidrogelova na bazi N-izopropilakrilamida (NIPAM) i 2-hidroksipropil metakrilata (HPMet), primenom dioksana kao rastvarača. Hidro­gelovi su dobijeni radikalskom polimerizacijom uz upotrebu različitog sadržaja etilenglikoldimetakrilata (EDGM) kao umreživača i benzoil peroksida kao inicijatora. U FTIR spektrima kserogelova poli(N-izopropilakrillamid-ko-2-hidrok­sipropil metakrilata) (p(NIPAM-HPMet)) prisutne su nove apsorpcione trake, a nisu prisutne pojedine trake karakteristične za monomere, što ukazuje na izvršenu kopolimerizaciju. SEM mikrografije pokazuju poroznu površinu ksero­gelova. Svojstva pri bubrenju svih sintetisanih hidrogelova praćena su na temperaturama od 20 do 40°C. Najveću sposobnost bubrenja pokazao je uzorak p(NIPAM-HPMet)-a sa najmanjim sadržajem umreživača na 20°C (α = 20,23). Sposobnost bubrenja opada pri povećanju sadržaja umreživača i temperature, tako da uzorci sa najvećim sadržajem umreživača (3 mol% EGDM-a) na 40°C dostižu stepen bubrenja od samo 2,05.

Inclusion complexes of sulfanilamide with beta-cyclodextrin and 2-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin

AB  - Sulfanilamide belongs to the group of drugs that have a bacteriostatic effect on different pathogenic microorganisms. This activity originates from the competitive antagonism with p-aminobenzoic acid, which is an integral part of folic acid. The safe use of sulfanilamide is limited due to poor solubility in the aqueous medium. Therefore, the aim of this paper is the synthesis of sulfanilamide, as well as preparing and structural characterization of its inclusion complexes with cyclodextrins. The crude sulfanilamide was obtained in the synthesis between acetanilide and chlorosulfonic acid according to the standard procedure. The synthesized sulfanilamide was recrystallized from water in order to obtain the satisfactory purity of the substance. Sufanilamide was complexed with beta-cyclodextrin and 2-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin by the co-precipitation method. A molecular encapsulation of sulfanilamide was confirmed by using FTIR, H-1-NMR, XRD and DSC methods. Phase-solubility techniques were used to assess the formation of the inclusion complex between sulfanilamide and cyclodextrins. The photostability of sulfanilamide and its inclusion complexes was estimated by UVB irradiation in a photochemical reactor by applying the UV-Vis method. Based on the UV-Vis analysis, sulfanilamide:2-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin complex was presented as more photostable than sulfanilamide:beta-cyclodextrin complex and sulfanilamide. The obtained results enable the potential use of these inclusion complexes for the preparation of oral formulations due to the enhanced solubility of sulfanilamide.

AB  - The method of the synthesis of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate) hydrogels obtained by radical polymerization is described. Their characterization was carried out by the determination of the quantity of residual monomers and by investigating their structure using FTIR. Three glass transitions were detected by DSC method. The porous surfaces of hydrogels with incorporated ibuprofen were shown in SEM micrographs. The swelling ratio of hydrogels decreased with the temperature increase and the swelling transport mechanism changed from non-Fickian to Fickian. Ibuprofen was incorporated in the hydrogel as a drug carrier and the released quantity depending on the temperature was monitored by HPLC. The hydrogel with the lower cross-linker content had the highest swelling degree (α = 34.72) at 10°C and released the largest amount of ibuprofen (64.21 mg/gxerogel) at 40C.
AB  - Prikazan je metod sinteze hidrogelova poli(N-izopropilakrilamid-ko-2-hidroksi-propilmetakrilata), p(NIPAM-ko-HPMet), sa 5 mol% monomera HPMet-a dobijenih radikalnom polimerizacijom. Karakterizacija sintetisanih hidrogelova je izvedena određivanjem količine rezidualnih monomera i izvršena je njihova strukturna analiza pomoću infracrvene spektroskopije (FTIR), diferencijalne skenirajuće kalorimetrije (DSC) i skenirajuće elektronske mikroskopije (SEM). FTIR spektri sintetisanih hidrogelova p(NIPAM-ko-HPMet)-a sa različitim sadržajem umreživača EGDM-a pokazuju uzajamnu sličnost u strukturi. Površinska struktura liofilizovanih hidrogelova je porozna i uočavaju se čestice uklopljenog ibuprofena. Termička svojstva kserogelova p(NIPAM-ko-HPMet)-a pokazuju tri staklasta prelaza sa endotermnim pikovima slabog intenziteta. Sadržaj rezidualnih monomera dovodi do zaključka da je konverzija monomera tokom sinteze gotovo kompletna. Kine-tika bubrenja hidrogelova pokazuje da se pri povećanju temperature od 20 na 40 °C mehanizam transporta tečnosti menja iz ne-Fikovog (proces bubrenja kontroliše difuzija tečnosti i relaksacija polimernih lanaca) u Fikov (kontrolisan samo difuzijom tečnosti). Mogućnost primene hidrogelova p(NIPAM-ko-HPMet)-a kao nosača lekova ispitivana je u zavisnosti od temperature. Ibuprofen, korišćen kao model lekovita supstanca, uklopljen je u hidrogel i količina oslobođene aktivne supstance određena je HPLC metodom. Utvrđeno je da uzorak hidrogela p(NIPAM-ko-HPMet)-a sa sadržajem umreživača od 1 mol% EGDM-a dostiže najveći stepen bubrenja (α = 34,72) na 10°C i otpušta najveću količinu ibuprofena na 40 °C (64,21 mg/gkserogel). Ispitana svojstva predstavljaju dobru osnovu za potencijalnu primenu hidrogelova kao nosača lekovitih supstanci sa modifikovanim oslobađanjem.

AB  - In the process of refining raw materials and metal production in the metallurgical industry and mining are allocated a number of different secondary materials to be deposited. In the enrichment of the ore by flotation, in addition to metals concentrate, flotation tailings are allocated, which is stored in permanent landfill. When solving the problems of processing of deposited material, landfill rehabilitation and revitalization of the affected land should be accounted more related effects in defining the feasibility of investment projects.
AB  - U procesima prerade sirovina i proizvodnje metala izdvaja se više različitih materijala koji se deponuju. Pri obogaćivanju ruda u flotacijama, pored koncentrata metala, izdvaja se i otpadna flotaciona jalovina koja se skladišti na trajne deponije. Pri rešavanju problematike prerade deponovanih materijala, saniranja deponija i revitalizacije zemljišta trebalo bi obračunati i više pratećih efekata pri definisanju opravdanosti investicionih radova.

AB  - Over the past years, many scientific research studies have been focused on thermo-sensitive hydrogels containing N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) as a monomer. The NIPAM based hydrogels with 20 mol% 2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate (HPMet) were synthesized using ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a cross-linker. The characterization of xerogel and phenacetin using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM)confirm the performed synthesis with satisfactory purity as well as loading of phenacetin into hydrogel. The swelling transport mechanism at simulated physiological conditions (pH 2.20 and 7.40 at 37 °C) is described by the time-independent kinetics. The potential application of synthesized hydrogels for the controlled release of phenacetin as a model drug was investigated at simulated physiological conditions by HPLC method. .
AB  - Brojna naučna istraživanja tokom poslednjih godina usmerena su na hidro- gelove koji sadrže N-izopropilakrilamid (NIPAM) kao monomer. Hidrogelovi na bazi NIPAM-a sa 20 mol% 2-hidroksipropilmetakrilata (HPMet), p(NIPAM-co-HPMet) sintetisani su korišćenjem različitih količina umreživača etilenglikoldimetakrilata (EGDM) i izvršena je njihova karakterizacija. FTIR spektar kserogela ukazuje na izvršenu sintezu iniciranjem pomoću radikala, a FTIR spektar fenacetina potvrđuje da je dobijen proizvod zadovoljavajuće čistoće. FTIR spektar kserogela sa fenacetinom ukazuju na izvršeno uklapanje fenacetina u unutrašnjost gela. SEM mikrografije nabubrelih i liofilizovanih uzoraka hidrogelova pokazuju da je njihova površina porozna, a uzorci sa uklopljenim fenacetinom pokazuju prisustvo fenacetina u porama hidrogela. Rezultati bubrenja pokazuju da termoosetljivi hidrogelovi NA 20 °C ispoljavaju anomaliju u mehanizmu difuzije, bubrenje ne prati Fickov zakon, već je proces bubrenja kontrolisan difuzijom vode i relaksacijom polimernih lanaca. Transportni mehanizam bubrenja na 40 °C može se svrstati u tip III, sa vremenski nezavisnom kinetikom. Slično ponašanje pri bubrenju ovi hidrogelovi pokazuju u simuliranim fiziološkim uslovima (pH 2,20 i 7,40 na 37 °C). Potencijalna primena dobijenih hidrogelova kao nosača lekova sa kontrolisanim oslobađanjem fenacetina, kao model leka, ispitivana je pomoću HPLC metode. Rezultati pokazuju da je u prvih 24 sata otpuštena veća količina fenacetina na 37 °C u rastvoru pH 7,40 (70-90%) u odnosu na količinu otpuštenog fenacetina u rastvoru pH 2,20 (50-65% od apsorbovane količine). Količina otpuštenog fenacetina srazmerno se smanjuje sa povećanjem gustine umreženja gelova. Proces otpuštanja lekovite supstance prati Fikov zakon difuzije za obe pH vrednosti. Dobijeni termoosetljivi hidrogelovi p(NIPAM-co-HPMet) pokazuju dobre mogućnosti za primenu kao 'inteligentni' nosači lekova (npr. fenacetina) sa kontrolisanom oslobađanjem.

AB  - The synthesis of the poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-2-hydroxypropyl-methacrylate) hydrogel along with the analysis of the residual monomers content and influence of monomer and crosslinker molar ratios on the swelling behaviour was investigated. Synthesis of thermosensitive hydrogel based on N-isopropylacrylamide was carried out with the molar ratios of 5, 10, 15 and 20 mol% of monomer 2-hydroxypropyl-methacrylate, in the presence of ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a crosslinker (1, 1.5, 2 and 3 mol%) and 2,2'-azobis(2-methylpropionitrile) as an initiator in acetone. The quantities of residual monomers in the synthesized copolymers were determined by HPLC method, ranging from 0.19 to 0.49% for N-isopropylacrylamide and from 0.13 to 0.63% for 2- -hydroxypropyl-methacrylate, counting the amount of xerogel. The hydrogels swelling ratio depending on time at 20 and 40°C was examined. It was found that the hydrogel with 5 mol% 2-hydroxypropyl-methacrylate and 1 mol% ethylene glycol dimethacrylate had the highest degree of swelling (( = 29.59) at 20°C, and that the hydrogel with 20 mol% 2-hydroxypropyl-methacrylate and 3 mol% ethylene glycol dimethacrylate had the lowest swelling degree ((=2.17) at 40°C.
AB  - Predmet ovog rada je sinteza kopolimernog hidrogela poli(N-izopropilakrilamid-ko-2-hidroksipropilmetakrilata), analiza sadržaja rezidualnih monomera i ispitivanje uticaja molskog odnosa monomera i umreživača na karakteristike bubrenja. Sinteza termoosetljivog hidrogela na bazi N-izopropilakrilamida izvršena je sa molarnim udelom 5, 10, 15 i 20 mol% monomera 2-hidroksipropilmetakrilata, u prisustvu umreživača etilenglikoldimetakrilata (u koncentraciji: 1, 1,5 , 2 i 3 mol%) i inicijatora 2,2'-azobis(2-metilpropionitrila) u acetonu. Sadržaj zaostalih monomera u sintetizovanim kopolimerima analiziran je pomoću HPLC metode. AB  - Hydrogels are three-dimensional cross-linked hydrophilic polymers that swell in water and aqueous solutions without dissolving in them. They are very sensitive to environmental stimulus, which is manifested by a sharp phase transition. This feature is important for their application in the pharmaceutical field, especially for making formulations with controlled release of active ingredients, with the correction of the solubility, degradation and their toxicity reducing. Because of the compatibility with living tissues, hydrogels can be used in different medical purposes (for making contact lenses, stents, balloon catheters, artificial muscles, substitutes for arteries and veins, trachea, oviduct). This work presents methods (chemical and physical) for obtaining hydrogels, their properties and sensitivity to environmental stimuli (temperature, pH, magnetic field), as well as their potential application in medicine and pharmacy.
AB  - Hidrogelovi su umreženi trodimenzionalni hidrofilni polimeri koji bubre u vodi i vodenim rastvorima, a sami se ne rastvaraju u njima. Jako su osetljivi na spoljne stimulanse, što se manifestuje oštrim faznim prelazom. Ova osobina je važna za njihovu primenu u oblasti farmacije, i to pre svega za izradu formulacija sa kontrolisanim oslobađanjem aktivnih principa, uz korigovanje rastvorljivosti, degradacije i smanjenja njihove toksičnosti. Zahvaljujući kompatibilnosti sa živim tkivima, primena hidrogelova je važna i za rešavanje različitih medicinskih potreba (za izradu kontaktnih sočiva, stentova, balon katetera, veštačkih mišića, zamena za arterije i vene, traheja, jajovoda). U radu su detaljno prikazane metode za njihovo dobijanje (hemijske i fizičke), svojstva i osetljivost na spoljne stimulanse (temperatura, pH, magnetno polje), kao i moguće primene u oblasti medicine i farmacije.

Alkali-lead deposits of lead refinery 'Trepča' and their influence on Ibar's waters

AB  - Besides lead as basic metal, flotation lead concentrates contain several accompanied metals, such as: copper, zinc, iron, antimony, silver, gold, bismuth and arsenic. Raw lead and slag are obtained by agglomeration roasting of concentrates and then reduction smelting of agglomerates in blust furnaces. Iron and zinc go from concentrates to the blust furnaces slag and copper, antimony, silver, gold, bismuth and arsenic mostly pass into raw lead which will be refined later. The process of raw lead refining consists of the following steps: - copper is separated from lead by the effect of sulphur and copper drosses are obtained, - antimony and arsenic are separated by the effect of caustic soda and saltpeter and alkali As-Sb drosses are obtained, - silver, gold and bismuth are separated from lead by special treatments in which alkali deposits are not formed. Copper drosses are refined by alkali treatment in reverberatory furnaces and raw lead, Pb-Cu matte and speiss are obtained, as well as waste slag which goes to the deposit. As-Sb drosses are refined in short drum furnaces and raw lead and Pb-Sb alloy are obtained, as well as waste slag which goes to the deposits. Waste alkali-lead slags which deposit in the direct vicinity of Ibar, contain the following components: - small particle of lead and antimony, as well as oxide of these metals, - sodium, arsenic and bismuth oxides, - copper, sodium and lead sulfides. Reverberatory furnaces slags contain: 8-16% Pb, 5-15% Na, 10-15% Cu, and short drum furnaces slags contain: 1-5% Pb, 20-28% Na, 1-5% Sb, 1-4% As. Both these slags are hygroscopic, they decompose gradually, spill and pollute the waters of Ibar through surface waters during rainfall. The solution of the problems of these slags lies in more technological-ecological and investment-developing proceedings and that is necessary in keeping with law regulations. .
AB  - Pored olova kao osnovnog metala, flotacioni koncentrati olova sadrže više pratećih metala od kojih su značajni sledeći: bakar, cink, železo, antimon, srebro, zlato, bizmut i arsen. Aglomeracionim prženjem koncentrata, a zatim redukcionim topljenjem aglomerata u šahtnim pećima, dobija se sirovo olovo i šljaka. Železo i cink iz koncentrata prelaze u šljaku šahtnih peći koja se deponuje, a bakar, antimon, srebro, zlato, bizmut i arsen, uglavnom prelaze u sirovo olovo, koje se zatim rafiniše. Rafinacija sirovog olova vrši se u više tehnoloških operacija, prema sledećem redosledu: - bakar se iz olova uklanja pomoću sumpora pri čemu se dobijaju bakarni šlikeri i prašine, - antimon i arsen se uklanjaju pomoću sode i šalitre pri čemu se dobijaju alkalni As-Sb šlikeri, - srebro, zlato i bizmut se uklanjaju iz olova specifičnim postupcima u kojima se ne izdvajaju alkalne deponije. AB  - The basic characteristics of technological waste waters and industrial waste of agricultural industry, as well as of industry of fruit processing and production of juices, are high values of organic contamination and suspended materials. These waste waters and industrial waste should be processed before a drainage into the natural water resources or dumping on open public land in accordance with waste regulatory acts. The possibility of technological waste waters treatment is presented on example of production of fruit juices 'Fruvita' in Smederevo (Hello juices) based on biological aerobic treatment by biorotor. Also, the possibilities of industrial waste processing are presented.
AB  - Osnovne karakteristike tehnoloških otpadnih voda i otpada prehrambene industrije, kao i industrije prerade voće i proizvodnje sokova, su visok stepen organskog zagađenja i suspendovanih materija. Ove otpadne vode kao i industrijski otpad potrebno je obraditi pre ispuštanja u prirodne vodene resurse ili deponovanja na otvorenom zemljištu, u skladu sa zakonskom regulativom. Mogućnost prerade tehnoloških otpadnih voda prikazana je na primeru fabrike voćnih sokova 'Fruvita' u Smederevu (Hello sokovi) biološkim aerobnim tretmanom pomoću biorotora. Prikazane su i mogućnosti prerade dobijenog industrijskog otpada.

AB  - Lead ores and concentrates always have significant content of silver and copper. During the process of lead bullion refining these two metals are separated and concentrated into the intermediates which have special technological treatments of processing. Copper intermediates always have high content of silver, therefore the value of present silver effects on techno-economic justification of processing certain copper intermediate. The value of commercial silver and copper products significantly effects on financial affairs of lead Refinery and Smeltery.
AB  - Rude i koncentrati olova uvek imaju značajan sadržaj srebra i bakra, a u procesu rafinacije sirovog olova ova dva metala se izdvajaju i koncentrišu u međuprodukte koji imaju specifične tehnološke postupke prerade. Međuprodukti bakra uvek imaju visok sadržaj srebra, pa vrednost prisutnog srebra često diriguje tehno-ekonomsku opravdanost procesa prerade konkretnog međuprodukta bakra. Vrednost komercijalnih proizvoda srebra i bakra bitno utiču na finansijsko poslovanje Topionice i Rafinerije olova.

AB  - Geothermal energy takes important place in application of alternative energy sources. Geothermal energy is promising energy source, ecological safe because it belongs to renewable energy resources. Potential of geothermal waters springs in Jošanica spa and possibility of their use for heating green houses were studied in this work. Jošanica spa is at the foot hills of Kopaonik, near town Raška, and its geothermal waters were known even in Roman ages. Use of these geothermal waters has a great influence on global development of Raška region, especially Jošanica Spa.
AB  - Značajno mesto u korišćenju alternativnih izvora energije zauzima geotermalna energija. Energija termalnih voda je jedna od perspektivnih energetskih sirovina, s ekološkog stanovišta veoma značajna s obzirom da spada u obnovljive izvore energije. U radu je opisan potencijal geotermalnih izvora u Jošaničkoj Banji, kao i mogućnost njihove primene za zagrevanje plastenika. Jošanička Banja se nalazi u podnožju Kopaonika, blizu Raške, a njene geotermalne vode bile su poznate još u rimsko doba. Korišćenje geotermalnih voda je bitan deo budućeg razvoja Raškog regiona, a naročito Jošaničke Banje.

Silver in medieval Serbia

AB  - In Serbia there were several polimetal ores deposits from which silver was exploited during ancient times and middle ages. Large silver production in middle ages, during Nemanjić dynasty, contributed to development and power of Serbia. In that time Novo Brdo was one of the largest European cities. After the arrival of Turks and after many wars, exploitation of mines gradually was decreasing in Serbia, and at the beginning of XVIII century completely stopped.
AB  - U Srbiji ima više nalazišta polimetalnih ruda iz kojih se eksploatisalo srebro u starom i srednjem veku. Visoka proizvodnja srebra u srednjem veku, u doba dinastije Nemanjića, dosta je doprinela razvoju i moći tadašnje Srbije. U to vreme Novo Brdo je bio jedan od većih evropskih gradova. Nakon dolaska Turaka i čestih ratova, eksploatacija rudnika u Srbiji postepeno opada i početkom XVIII veka potpuno prestaje.

The kinetic behavior of catalase immobilized on Amberlite IRA-410

AB  - Beef liver catalase was immobilized on the strongly basic ion-exange resin
Amberlite IRA-410, and used to study the kinetics of the reaction of hydrogen
peroxide decomposition. The process of the immobilization was also followed.
Rate constants for the enzymatic reaction were determined for the initial period
and for the reaction as a whole. Reuse of the immobilized enzyme was also examined.
Rate constants at four temperatures in the range 20—40 °C were determined
and the energy and entropy of activation were calculated from rate data.
