AB - This work presents the perspective of applying the laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI MS) for characterization the anode film of the Ag60Cu26Zn14, Ag58.5Cu31.5Pd10, and Ag63Cu27In10 alloys (at high concentrations of chloride ions in solutions). The reference LDI mass spectra of anode films of pure Ag and Cu have been used for the identification of product corrosion. Knowing the clusters detected in the reference spectra lead to the facilitating identification of the LDI mass spectrum of the sample and reduces the analysis time. The LDI MS analysis of these alloys revealed that the predominant corrosion product are AgCl (from AgnCln+1−/+, n = 1–3), and CuCl (from “superhalogen” CumCln− clusters, m = 1–2, n = 2–6); it also revealed Cu2(OH)3Cl (from Cu2(OH)(H2O)2+) and Cu2O (from Cu(H2O)+, Cu2O doped with chlorine). These results are in accordance with the X-ray diffraction and Raman analysis. The LDI MS spectra of alloys contain the additional peaks formed due to the mutual influences of different metals in the alloys (AgCuCl3− (AgCl-CuCl2−), AgCu2Cl4− (AgCl-CuCl-CuCl2−), and Ag2CuCl4− (AgCl-AgCl-CuCl−), which is consistent with the identified corrosion products. It should be noted that the LDI MS suggest the presence of CuCl2, which can be interpreted as the corrosion products retained in the porous films of alloys, and not detected by the other methods due to a small amount. The future theoretical and experimental studies of metal clusters, significant for metallurgy, can contribute that the LDI MS is becoming a powerful analytical tool for characterization the metal surfaces.

AB - The presented paper investigates the influence of zinc addition on corrosion characteristics of different sterling silver alloy systems. Open circuit potential measurements, linear polarization resistance method, and potentiodynamic polarization tests were employed to determine the corrosion characteristics of the alloys. The materials were tested in an Artificial Sweat, 0.9% NaCl, and 0.01M Na2S solutions. Based on the presented results, it could be concluded that zinc has the most significant direct impact. The benefits of zinc addition are especially noticeable in aluminum-containing alloy systems, but only up to 3.7 % of Zn. The best results are achieved for alloy AgCu1.9Zn3.7Al1.6Si0.3.

AB - Copper from sulfate baths without and with added inorganic pigment particles based on strontium aluminate doped with europium and dysprosium (SrAl2O4: Eu2+, Dy3+) was electrodeposited on a brass cathode by a galvanostatic regime. Morphological, structural, and roughness analysis of the pigment particles, the pure (pigment-free) Cu coating, and the Cu coatings with incorporated pigment particles were performed using SEM, XRD, and AFM techniques, respectively. Hardness and creep resistance were considered for the examination of the mechanical properties of the Cu coatings, applying Chicot–Lesage (for hardness) and Sargent–Ashby (for creep resistance) mathematical models. The wettability of the Cu coatings was examined by the static sessile drop method by a measurement of the water contact angle. The incorporation of pigment particles in the Cu deposits did not significantly affect the morphology or texture of the coatings, while the roughness of the deposits rose with the rise in pigment particle concentrations. The hardness of the Cu coatings also increased with the increasing concentration of pigments and was greater than that obtained for the pigment-free Cu coating. The presence of the pigments caused a change in the wettability of the Cu coatings from hydrophilic (for the pigment-free Cu coating) to hydrophobic (for Cu coatings with incorporated particles) surface areas.

AB - Multicomponent oxide with pyrochlore structure (A2B2O7), containing 7 different A-site cations and 3 B-site cations in equiatomic amounts, was synthesized. Powders with nominal composition (La1/7Sm1/7Nd1/7Pr1/7Y1/7Gd1/7Yb1/7)2(Sn1/3Hf1/3Zr1/3)2O7 were fabricated through a reaction of metal nitrates (A-site) and metal chlorides (B-site) with sodium hydroxide during the solid state displacement reaction. Room temperature synthesis initially resulted in the obtainment of amorphous powders, which crystallized after subsequent calcination to form single crystalline compounds. Crystalline high-entropy ceramic powders formation took place at temperatures as low as 750 °C. During calcination, defective fluorite (F-A2B2O7) and crystal pyrochlore (Py-A2B2O7) structures coexist. A large number of cations induce the obtainment of stable high-entropy pyrochlores. Results showed that sintering at 1650 °C lead to pure crystalline single-phase pyrochlore formation. High-density ceramic, free of additives, was obtained after powders were compacted and subjected to pressureless sintering at 1650 °C. Multicomponent pyrochlore structure was investigated using the theoretical and experimental multi-methodological approach.

AB - Palladium alloys with low nickel content are commonly used as catalyst-trap for platinum or
platinum-rhodium catalysts in the process of production of nitric acid. Pure palladium and,
consequently, alloys with a high concentration of Pd are highly resistant in many corrosion
environments across the full pH range, from 0 to 14 and beyond, in the presence of different anions.
Mineral acids do not affect palladium, especially at lower concentrations; they can be dissolved
just in the mix of them. However, nickel in the alloy can be selectively dissolved in single mineral
acid with the use of an oxidation agent or anodic polarization, which is the more controllable
process. The aim of the work is the research of dealloying of PdNi5 in 0.5M sulfuric acid under
anodic polarization conditions. This study used open circuit potential, linear polarization
resistance, and chronoamperometry as electrochemical methods. Scanning electronic microscopy
with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and inductively coupled plasma mass
spectrometry (ICP-MS) were used as structural and analytical techniques for the study of PdNi5
alloy dealloying in 0.5M sulfuric acid at three different anodic potentials.

platinum-rhodium catalysts in the process of production of nitric acid.
Scanning electronic microscopy
with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and inductively coupled plasma mass
spectrometry (ICP-MS) were used as structural and analytical techniques for the study of PdNi5

of tensile strength from the influential input parameters, aimed at developing non-toxic alloys that
could completely respond to the requirements in traffic networks electrification by replacing the
currently used Cu-Cd alloy system. The use of Cu-Cd alloys system is always resulting in many

AB - Although the same quality of various metals from the recycling process is considered for granted, obtaining aluminum of high purity and aluminum alloys with identical properties as from production from pure raw materials is a very challenging process, especially if the sources for recycling are numerous materials that contain different impurities. In this study, recycled alloys were produced by melting of aluminum scrap with the addition of the required components. This paper aims to compare two commercial Al alloys with their analogs from the recycling process. Both of the alloys belong to the aluminum series 6000, with designations 6060 and 6082. The results of comparing corrosion and physical characteristics are presented in this study. Physical characterization was performed by measuring the alloys' hardness and electrical conductivity. The electrochemical investigation used several corrosion methods, OCP (open circuit potential), measuring polarization curves in apparent Tafel region with extrapolation of results, and LRP (linear polarization resistance). The corrosion environment was acidulated 0.5M Na2SO4 with pH=2.5. The received results have confirmed insignificant differences between the properties of the commercial and alloys produced by the recycling. Recycled alloys have achieved almost identical mechanical properties and even slightly better corrosion characteristics, which was the consequence of the lower concentration of impurities in recycled alloys or higher concentration of microalloying components.

AB - Binary palladium alloys with nickel are known to have catalytic activity and are also used as catalyst-trap in the synthesis of nitric acid. High Pd alloys are corrosive resistant in many solutions, including highly alkaline and highly acidic. Although generally not prone to corrosion in low concentrations of mineral acids due to the high content of palladium in it, this alloy is still prone to the dealloying effect under specific conditions. The dealloying process was researched under anodic polarization in 1.0M nitric acid solution. Scanning electronic microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) and electrochemical methods were used to study the susceptibility of PdNi5 alloy to dealloying.

AB - This study investigates the electrochemical stability of the gold complex based on mercaptotriazole at an optimum pH of nine in the electrolyte with a gold concentration of 2.5 g dm−3. The stability of the complex was studied by visual monitoring and electrochemical characterization of electrolytes over a period of 1 year. Electrochemical characterization of the mercaptotriazole gold complex was performed using open circuit potential measurement, cyclic voltammetry, recording the polarization curves, pH, and conductivity of the electrolyte. Electrochemical characteristics and visual appearance of the mercaptotriazole gold complex at a pH ~ 9 were not significantly changed for one year, with no changes in its visual appearance. The results of this study are important for industrial applications in order to replace cyanide electrolytes with a stable organic complex.

AB - Recycling specific e-waste from renewable energy provides an opportunity to integrate it with a pyrometallurgical production process of various types of non-ferrous alloys. One type of alloy is used for brazing of different types of materials like copper and stainless steel and they are often used for solar collector installations. Other obtained alloys belong to the new type of tarnish-resistant silver alloys that can be used in electronics and various renewable applications. All recycled metals from the process are used for the later ingot metallurgy and could be further processed to obtain these alloys' wire, sheet metal, or other suitable shapes (rods, strips). This study presents the recycling process with the technology parameters and material flowsheets. Special attention in the paper is given to the structure of selected alloys. Optical microscopy, SEM with EDS, and the XRD method were used to characterize the microstructure of the alloys.

AB - This paper presents original software, developed for the needs of mathematical modeling of complex processes using the simplex method. The software was developed in the Delphi programming language for the Windows environment. The idea was to use the developed software to determine the efficiency of the simplex method in choosing the optimal mode of heat treatment of PdNi5 alloy, and simplex triangle can visually monitor the legality of the behavior of the test process depending on the influential parameters.

AB - Current trends such as digitalization, digital transformation, Industry 4.0 and the like, which are characteristic of modern society as a whole, have imposed the world of data as an imperative of all spheres of human activity. In a very short period of time, all previously assumed barriers in the current amount of data in circulation at the global level, which is currently measured in tens of zettabytes with a tendency to continuously increase in the years to come, have been exceeded. Even if we reduce the level of observation to a single instance, there is almost no case in which we cannot identify any increase in the amount of data. In proportion to the increase in the amount of data, the required energy that needs to be provided at different levels for any action taken on this data has increased, whether it is the creation of this data, its storage, some processing, replication or some other adequate type of action. It is estimated that already few percents of the entire world production of electricity go to the segment of providing the necessary conditions for the performance of some of the work on data. Accordingly, many large data centers are partially or completely switching to systems based on the use of renewable energy sources. Although this transfer has brought a number of advantages, there is still the problem of data expansion in a long-term plan that new energy solutions need to follow. The paper will show how a more rational data handling at different levels of use can create a far more favorable energy environment at the global level and how this environment can contribute to the sustainability of currently applied solutions for renewable energy in different segments of use and work with data in a modern environment.

AB - Recycling of the waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) is necessary from both an economic and an
environmental point of view. Large amounts of waste contain significant amounts of valuable metals
used as the secondary source. The PCBs can be viewed as a complicated mineral raw material on which
mineral processing procedures can be applied. This work presents the mineral processing procedures
used in the certain stages of recycling waste printed circuit boards.

AB - This work is aimed to characterize the gold complexes using the electron spray ionization (ESI), and atmospheric solids analysis probe (ASAP), tandem quadrupole mass spectrometer (TQD). It is demonstrated here that the use of the ASAP is more suitable than the ESI for a rapid analysis of the gold coatings in the solid and liquid state. The mass spectra indicate that mercaptotriazole and glycine can coordinate with the gold ion and to build complexes such as [Au-2MT-Gly] and [Au-2MT-2Gly].

AB - A cost-effective and simple hydrometallurgy procedure for recycling the diamond core drilling crowns by nitric acid leaching, followed by the sodium hydroxide leaching, has been developed. The effect of temperature, nitric acid/sodium hydroxide concentration, leaching time and stirring rate were studied. For the acid leaching process the optimal values for parameters were 60 degrees C, 1.0 M HNO3, 2.5 h, and 800 rpm. It has been noted that the key factors in the alkaline leaching process were temperature and NaOH concentration. For the alkaline leaching, the optimal parameters were 100 degrees C, 40% concentration of NaOH solution, and leaching time of 4 h. Identification and characterisation of products in all technological processes were performed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), and laser desorption ionisation mass spectrometry (LDI-MS). The analysis of solutions in all phases was performed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). The use of LDI-MS as a new approach to identify the products after phases in the recycling process was an important part of the study, and the results were consistent with the XRD analysis. The total tungsten recovery was over 95.6%, with a high purity of the obtained tungsten trioxide.

AB - The importance of recycling the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), in recent years, has been taken into increasing concern and consideration not only by the government, but also by their hazardous material contents. Electronic waste can be defined as a mixture of various metals, particularly copper, aluminum and steel, with various types of plastics and ceramics. Recycling of electronic waste is an important subject not only from the point of waste treatment, but also from the recovery aspect of valuable materials. Pyrometallurgical processing has been a traditional technology for recovery of the precious metals from waste electronic equipment. In the past two decades, the most active research area on recovery of metals from electronic scraps is recovering the precious metals using the hydrometallurgical techniques. Compared with the pyrometallurgical processing, the hydrometallurgical method is more exact, more predictable and more easily controlled. In the last decade, the recovery of metals by biotechnology has been one of the most promising technologies. Biometallurgy has the potential for a major technology breakthrough for the materials and minerals industry due to a great interest shown by the major international companies for this new technology. Understanding the biochemical processes, involved in treatments of metals, has been the subject to growing investigations for the last 20 years. At present, the research and development are in progress for a number of metals such as copper, nickel, cobalt, zinc, gold and silver. However, the activity of leaching bacteria is applied for recovery of gold and silver only to remove the interfering metal sulfides from ore bearing the precious metals prior to the cyanidation treatment. Recent research trend is to use the combined methods for optimal results.

AB - The study presents the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay results on human erythroleukemia K562 cell line to compare the toxicity of electrolytes based on the mercaptotriazole gold complex (Au-MT) and gold potassium cyanide. Solutions immediately after mixing and after three months at different concentrations were compared, with a prolonged aging period, to a year, for the electrolytes at pH = 9. Lower toxicity of new organic gold complex at pH = 4, 7, and 12 than of alkaline cyanide electrolyte, but higher at pH = 2, was determined. The solution of the Au-MT at pH = 9 had comparable, but lower cell toxicity in the whole investigated period.

AB - This study addresses the influence of heat treatment and alumina coating on the corrosion of EN 1.4713 steel in 0.1 mol dm(-3) sulfuric acid. The corrosion characteristics of three different samples are examined using the open circuit potential measurements, Tafel extrapolation, linear polarization resistance, weight-loss method, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results showed that the application of the weight-loss method yielded similar values to the electrochemical method in the first 24 h. A decrease in corrosion rate, in a similar manner, was observed for all three samples. The largest deacceleration was obtained for the alumina/titania-coated sample. It was obtained that the heat treatment significantly increased the corrosion resistance, but only in the first 24 h. The alumina/titania coating decreases the corrosion rate by approximately 30 times at the beginning of the corrosion exposure and by nearly 300 times after 240 h. This coating could have a significant influence on construction design, which uses ferritic stainless steel as the material.

AB - Silver nitrate in the solution was reduced in the presence of the dispersants by ascorbic acid, and silver particles were generated. The main goal was to examine the influence of different dispersants. The purpose was to improve the production process of the micro-sized silver powder for thick film silver pastes for applications in the photovoltaic sector and the printed electronics. Relatively high concentrations of the reagents were used to achieve a high yield of silver particles. It was a strict request for highly economic production. This paper shows the possibilities for future large-scale synthesis and potential industrial production. The particles were analyzed by the X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and laser diffraction particle size analyzer.

Relatively high concentrations of the reagents were used to achieve a high yield of silver particles. It was a strict request for highly economic production. This paper shows the possibilities for future large-scale synthesis and potential industrial production. The particles were analyzed by the X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and laser diffraction particle size analyzer.",

AB - Corrosion products formed on the surface of two silver brazing alloys after the potentiostatic polarization in 3.5% sodium chloride solution were characterized by the standard methods such as, the X-ray diffraction, microRaman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectroscopy. This paper presents the results of a laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI MS) analysis as a new approach to the characterization of corrosion products. The potential of the anodic polarization was 0.5 V versus saturated calomel electrode, and the process duration was 300 s. The corrosion layers on both investigated alloys were similar in composition with cuprous chloride and silver chloride as the main components and had strong indications of cuprous oxide formation. The major difference between these two layers was the existence of zinc hydroxychioride as the corrosion product of Ag-Cu-Zn alloy. Palladium compounds were not found in the case of Ag-Cu-Pd alloy. The results of different methods have shown a good consistency. Complementarity between the used methods was useful in the interpretation of the results for each used method. This study has demonstrated that LDI MS can be used as an efficient additional method together with the traditional ones.

AB - The results of experimental studies of the effect of the plasma sprayed alumina coating on the improved corrosion resistance of the heat-resistant ferritic
stainless steel (W.Nr. 1.4713, EN X10CrAlSi7) in the sulfuric acid are presented in
this research. In this investigation, the plasma spray process was employed on the
substrate of ferritic stainless steel with deposition of Al2O3 ceramic coatings with Ni5%Al as a bond layer. Two different coating thicknesses of 0.3 mm and 0.5 mm
were tested. The investigation was performed by electrochemical characterization
and weight loss method. Electrochemical characterization of corrosion behavior of
steel with and without ceramic coating was performed by: the open circuit potential
measurement (OCP), the linear polarization resistance (LRP) method, and the
Tafel extrapolation method. All electrochemical measurements were performed in
the sulfuric acid with a concentration of 0.25 mol/dm3
(pH  1.00). Weight loss
method was performed with a duration of 240 h in the 38 wt.% sulfuric acid. Corrosion current densities obtained by electrochemical methods with the coatings were
between 3 and 4 % of the values of the samples without coatings. Nearly the same
results were obtained with the weight loss method. In both cases, these values are
similar to the porosity of the coatings.

AB - The aim of this study was a characterization of the crystals of gold complexes based on mercaptotrazole, obtained from solutions with different pH values (2, 4, 7, and 9), using the methods of infrared (IR) and Raman spectroscopy. Both methods provided very useful information on the investigated systems and signalized existence of the Au-S bond in the complexes obtained at pH = 2 and 9. Recorded spectra clearly illustrated the changes that occur in the systems as a consequence of pH change. At the same time, the results also showed that the pyrrole nitrogen atoms stay protonated at pH = 9, which is not in favor of the assumption evolved from the previous UV-vis analysis of possible additional coordination between Au and possible deprotonated nitrogen atoms at this particular pH.
