AB - Most of the serious weldment failures lead to catastrophic consequences in terms of damage of other equipment, loss of production, and risks to workers' health and safety. Hence, there is motivation to find margin between safety and disaster. This necessitates guaranteeing the integrity of a welded structure even if a crack is present. Therefore, influence of the material inhomogeneity and residual stresses on deformation and fracture behavior needs to be described precisely. Fracture mechanics parameters J - integral and CTOD have attracted great interest in recent years. Two three point bending specimens of base metal (BM) and weld metal (WM) were tested according to standard BS EN ISO 15653. Than, a two dimensional finite element analysis was performed in Ansys Workbench software to calculate J-integral, and compare with experimental results. The aim of this work is to explore the possibility of using the test results in the reliable prediction of weldment fracture.

AB - In present paper, based on the results of the experimental study of the behaviour of the samples made of a HSLA steel, in the form of round smooth specimens (RSS) under LCF conditions (with controlled and completely reversible strain Δε/2 = const, Rε = εmin/εmax = −1, according to ISO 12106: 2003 (E)) and square specimens (SqS) under conditions of HCF conditions (with controlled one-way variable load on tension with σmin = const, according to ISO 12110-1:2013), a computational stress analysis was performed using the FE method and the behaviour of this steel in the fatigue behaviour simulation (LCF and HCF) in SolidWorks programme was shown. On the basis of the performed analysis of the results of the stress-strain state and the determination of the life using the life isolines for a particular load cycle involving the entire RSS ligament, i.e. SqS for a particular load in a wide range of LCF and HCF loads and comparison with the results of experimental tests, a figure i.e. graphical presentation was given and conclusions were drawn that justify the efforts for numerical assessment of the life cycle of the loaded machine parts.

AB - In order to prevent the premature failure of steam pipeline produced of molybdenum-vanadium steel, the experimental tests were performed to measure fracture toughness and to determine the mechanical behaviour of cracked pipes. A finite element method was used to calculate the fracture behaviour of the pressurized pipeline made of 14MoV6-3 steel based on the J-integral computation. The J-R curves were experimentally obtained by the elastic unloading compliance method for the single edge notched bend specimens and compared with those obtained using finite element method. A two dimensional finite element analysis was performed in Ansys Workbench software to determine the stress distribution and calculate J-integral values for the selected specimen geometry. Special attention was paid to the influence of applied boundary conditions on the accuracy of J-integral values, as well as to the influence of mesh density. It is shown that numerically obtained J-values significantly depend on the number of nodes used to apply displacements. However, if recommendations proposed in this paper are implemented, the accuracy of calculated values is satisfactory and successful failure analysis can be carried out. This approach can be useful in engineering applications where time saving and costs reducing are required.

AB - Numerous structural components made of high strength low-alloyed steels are often exposed to low-cycle fatigue loading during their exploitation life. In order to study the fatigue behavior of one grade of structural steels produced in Yugoslavia during the eighties of the last century, a push-pull constant amplitude strain-controlled fatigue tests were conducted at room temperatures. This paper analyses behavior of two different materials, parent steel (PM) and its coarse-grained (CG) simulated heat-affected zone (SHAZ) exposed to the action of low-cycle fatigue (LCF) loading performed in the range from 1 to 10(4) cycles. LCF tests were conducted at strain ratio R = -1 at strain amplitude range from 0.3% to 0.8%. The materials' Coffin-Manson parameters appearing in the strain-life and cyclic stress-strain curves were calculated. Fracture surface analysis of both materials was done. The results showed that plasticity under dynamic load conditions is satisfactory for both materials which give them good resistance to crack initiation and propagation.

AB - This paper presents a method for estimating the residual-strength of welded pressure vessel made of HSLA steel which contains a surface axial crack. In order to analyze the behavior of the structure, a set of specimens were extracted from the welded plates using the same welding procedure as used for welding of the vessel. Before the fatigue precracking, the notches were positioned in parent material, heat-affected zone and weld metal of standard bend specimens. The J-integral resistance curve method for residual strength prediction comprises the following steps: 1. Obtaining of root J(R) resistance curves for the pressure vessel material using convenient specimens; 2. Obtaining root J crack driving force curves for the investigated structure for different crack sizes and different levels of applied stresses by applying the appropriate model of plasticity (Dugdale model); 3. Determination of the instability point as the tangency point between the crack driving force curve and the resistance curve. J-resistance curve of welded joint constituents were determined at -40 degrees C using a single specimen compliance procedure.

AB - The purpose of this work is to present analytical and numerical determination of equivalent stress and deformation of open section thin-walled U and Z cantilever beams loaded with torsion. This work can be divided into two parts. In the first part of this paper, equivalent stress and deformation are obtained by analytical calculation for encastered model over the whole cross section. In the second part, the finite element method is applied for four different encastered models and the obtained results are compared with the analytical calculation.

AB - Steel grade 14MoV6-3 is a low-carbon microalloyed steel with addition of chromium and molybdenum. This grade is designed mainly for power industry applications, withstanding operating at elevated temperatures. In this paper, mechanical properties of steel grade 14MoV6-3 and methodology of calculation of critical values of the J-integral are presented. The level of damage is determined by analyzing the virgin material of the same grade. The focus of presented investigation is on the experimental J integral determination, where critical values of the J-integral (J(IC)) are compared with the values obtained by using the finite element methods (FEM). FEM model was defined on the basis of experimental conditions and obtained numerical values should confirm our experimental results.

AB - Presented is the effect of plasma hardfacing (or just hardfacing) and carbides presence on the occurrence of cracks and microcracks in the welded layer. The reasons behind this phenomenon are analysed and explained. In addition, the plasma welding technology with all the necessary data such as welding parameters is shown for the case of undamaged tooth of a machine used for the milling of marble. The welded layer with a significant amount of tungsten-carbide is applied onto new, undamaged tooth in order to improve the characteristics of the surface layer of the base material by increasing its hardness which leads to increasing of wear resistance and impact toughness. After welding, the tooth is cut using electrical discharge machining (EDM) for examining the applied surface layer in different locations throughout the welded joint. Macro and microstructural analysis aided in determining the characteristics of the surface layer. The nature and causes of cracks and microcracks are analysed in order to provide a better solution to avoid crack occurrence, as well as in determining their potential effect on the integrity of the tooth as a whole.

AB - Experimental research on the behaviour of high-strength low-alloy steel ( HSLA)exposed to low-cycle fatigue (LCF) with controlled and fully reversible strain (Delta epsilon/2 = const, R epsilon =epsilon(min)/epsilon(max) = -1) has been analysed. LCF tests are performed on a series of smooth bar shaped specimens, 11 x 11 x 95 mm, parent metal (PM), welded joint (WJ) and simulated heat affected zone (SHAZ) of steel Nionikral 70 (NN-70) with semi-amplitude of controlled strain, Delta epsilon/2 = 0.40- 0.80. The results of the experimental investigation have given us important information on the understanding of fatigue behaviour of steel NN-70 and its welded joints. In this work the results of static and dynamic-, that is monotonous and fatigue behaviour of the material, are compared, which is a practical contribution to the assessment of the behaviour of PM and WJ of steel NN-70 exposed to effects of low cycle fatigue, i.e. monotonous and fatigue behaviour of the material.

AB - While refurbishing fossil fuel power plants, it is of great importance for safety precaution to replace the aged components which exceeded their designed service life with new ones. The most important parameter for thick-walled components is thickness value and the most important procedure is its reduction. Reduction of wall-thickness is achieved by changing the material of thick-walled components. In present paper some examples of wall-thickness reduction are shown in case of substituting a ferritic/martensitic micro-alloyed steel P91 for P22.

AB - In present paper, the experimental research of the behaviour of high-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA) exposed to low-cycle fatigue (LCF) with controlled and fully reversible strain (Delta epsilon/2 = const, R epsilon = epsilon(min)/epsilon(max) = -1) has been analysed. Low-cycle fatigue tests were performed on a series of smooth specimens made of steel Nionikral 70 (NN-70), with semi-amplitude of controlled strain, Delta epsilon/2=0.35, 0.45, 0.50, 0.60, 0.70 and 0.80. Characterization and description of the low-cycle elastoplastic behaviour of the material by construction of characteristic curves of low-cycle fatigue are made using the characteristic hysteresis, load-strain force for each level of controlled strain, selected from the areas of stabilization. For the selection of stabilized hysteresis and processing of the results of low-cycle fatigue tests the recommendations of the ISO 12106:2003 (E) and ASTM E 606-04 standards were used, which in this work means to compare the two results. For each strain level characteristic stabilized hysteresis were selected, determined in accordance with recommendations of the ISO 12106:2003 (E) and ASTM E 606-04 standards, from which the data necessary for further processing of the results and finally for the construction of characteristic curves of low cycle fatigue were read. Constructed curves are compared, and the effect of selection of the recommendations from the standards on characterization of the behaviour of steel NN-70 estimated. The results of experimental investigation have given us important information on the understanding of fatigue behaviour of steel NN-70. In this work the results of static and dynamic, that is monotonous and fatigue behaviour of the material, were compared, which is a practical contribution to the assessment of the behaviour of steel NN-70 exposed to the effects of low-cycle fatigue, i.e. monotonous and fatigue behaviour of the material.

In this work the results of static and dynamic, that is monotonous and fatigue behaviour of the material, were compared, which is a practical contribution to the assessment of the behaviour of steel NN-70 exposed to the effects of low-cycle fatigue, i.e. monotonous and fatigue behaviour of the material.",

AB - The subject of the paper is the temperature distribution in the thin metallic ferromagnetic plate influenced by moving linear high frequency induction heater. As a result of high frequency electromagnetic field, conducting currents appear in the part of the plate. Distribution of the eddy-current power across the plate thickness is obtained by use of complex analysis. The influences of the heater frequency, magnetic field intensity and plate thickness on the heat power density were discussed. By treating this power as a moving heat source, differential equations governing distribution of the temperature field are formulated. Temperature across the plate thickness is assumed to be in linear form. Differential equations are analytically solved by using integral-transform technique, Fourier finite-sine and finite-cosine transform and Laplace transform. The influence of the heater velocity to the plate temperature is presented on numerical examples based on theoretically obtained results.

AB - This paper contains the results of experimental analysis of fatigue endurance of used steel teeth regenerated by hard facing. The cylindrical spur gears were tested and compared with the newly made ones, oiler being regenerated by hard facing with subsequent cementation and quenching. The fatigue testing wider variable amplitude loading was used to determine the duration of operational life through measurement of wear. The obtained results demonstrated the impact of hard facing methods on gear endurance in operation. In the test on regenerated gears it was discovered that initial pits appeared almost simultaneously for different facing materials and a bit earlier than in tests on newly made ones, despite their considerably higher pitting rate. Apart from that, the tested operational lives of regenerated and newly-made gears were approximately equal and much longer than predicted.

AB - The subject of this paper is the microstructural and mechanical characterisation of regions of the heat-affected zone (HAZ) in steels containing 9-12% Cr that are used for operation at elevated temperatures. Tests were performed on regions in the HAZ, which was created by physical simulation using a thermal welding simulator. Half of the simulated samples (SSs) were tested at room temperature (RT) and at an operating temperature (OT) of 600 degrees C immediately after simulation/welding, while the rest of the simulated samples were tested at RT and at the OT after heat treatment following the welding, i.e., post-weld heat treatment (PWHT). In addition to the results from mechanical testing, the results from microstructural analysis using light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are also presented. The manner in which PWHT contributes to the creep resistance of the HAZ in P91 steel is demonstrated.

AB - Differences in total factor productivity of privatised and newly-founded private companies in Serbia are empirically estimated in this paper. On the panel data from a sample of 900 firms in three regions - Vojvodina, Central Serbia and Belgrade, it is found that majority foreign owned companies, as well as export-oriented and newly-founded businesses which did not undergo the process of ownership transformation recorded higher productivity than the average productivity in these regions. Regional inequality in companies' performance elasticity to foreign capital, exports and market concentration is also empirically proved.

AB - At the end of the 19th century, Serbia was among the first European countries to start electrification. A very bad economic situation, caused by centuries-old slavery and lack of capital, did not prevent the Serbs to start introducing electricity into settlements and a few industrial plants. They had the idea of introducing electricity implemented before many other more developed countries of Europe and the world. A great merit for this belongs to the Serbian scientist and inventor Nikola Tesla, as well as to his good friend Djordje M. Stanojević, the professor and rector of Belgrade University. The first electric power plant in Serbia, which produced direct electric current by coal combustion, was put into operation in Belgrade, the Serbian capital, in 1893, twelve years after Edison’s first such plant in the world. Also, the first hydroelectric power plant with three-phase alternating electric current in Serbia began operating in 1900, four years after the first power plant of its kind in the world (Niagara Falls, 1896). This hydropower plant, the first in the Balkans and one of the first in Europe, is described in this paper.
