INFLUENCE OF PILLING ON THE STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS OF FLAX PLAIN WEFT-KNITTED FABRICS

AB  - In this study, the structural characteristics of plain weft-knitted fabrics both before and after pilling were analyzed, and evaluated their tendency to develop surface fuzz and pilling. Five knitted fabrics made from flax yarn, each with different structural features as the number of wales, courses, mass per unit area, and thickness, were examined. To induce pilling, a Martindale device with two different abrasives: the investigated knitted fabric and a wool woven fabric, was used. The obtained results revealed that the grade of pilling decreased as the number of rubs increased, and that using the investigated knitted fabric as an abrasive resulted in lower grades of pilling. Regardless the pilling was caused by the investigated knitted fabric or the wool woven fabric, a reduction in all examined structural characteristics of the knitted fabrics after pilling, was observed.
AB  - U radu su ispitivane strukturne karakteristike desno-levih kuliranih pletenina, pre i posle pilinga. Takođe, procenjena je i sklonost pletenina ka promeni maljavosti i sklonost ka pilingu. Ispitivanja su obuhvatila pet pletenina proizvedenih od istog lanenog prediva, ali različitih strukturnih karakteristika (broj nizova, broj redova, površinska masa i debljina). Pilling je generisan na Martindale-ovom uređaju upotrebom dva različita abraziva (ispitivana pletenina i vunena tkanina). Dobijeni rezultati su pokazali smanjenje ocene pilinga sa povećanjem broja pokreta abraziva; te ocene su niže u slučaju kada je ispitivana pletenina korišćena u svojstvu abraziva. Piling je doveo do smanjenja svih ispitivanih strukturnih karakteristika pletenina, kako nakon pilinga izazvanog ispitivanom pleteninom tako i nakon pilinga izazvanog vunenom tkaninom.

AB  - U radu su ispitivane strukturne karakteristike, kompresiona i prekidna svojstva pletenina pre i posle pranja. Ispitivanja su obuhvatila tri desno-leve kulirane pletenine sirovinskog sastava pamuk, vuna i organska vuna. Od strukturnih karakteristika pletenina određivani su gustina po vertikali i horizontali, površinska gustina pletenina, dužina pređe u petlji, površinska masa pletenina i njihove debljine. Od kompresionih svojstava ispitivani su kompresibilnost, gubitak debljine i elastični oporavak, a od prekidnih svojstava sila probijanja i hod kugle pri probijanju. Dobijeni rezultati su pokazali da površinska gustina pletenine i sirovinski sastav utiču na kompresiona svojstva, sirovinski sastav na prekidna svojstva, a pranje na strukturne karakteristike, kompresiona i prekidna svojstva pletenina. Kod sve tri ispitivane pletenine, posle pranja, registrovan je porast gustine po vertikali i horizontali, a time i površinske gustine pletenina, površinske mase pletenina i njihovih debljina, kompresibilnosti, gubitka debljine i hoda kugle pri probijanju, ali smanjenje elastičnog oporavka i sile probijanja. Pranje je dovelo do skupljanja pletenina, smanjenja dužine pređe u petlji kod pletenina od pamuka i organske vune, ali do povećanja dužine pređe u petlji kod vunene pletenine.
AB  - The structural characteristics, compression, and strength properties of knitted fabrics, before and after washing, were investigated in this paper. The experimental material consisted of three plain weft-knitted fabrics produced of cotton, wool, and organic wool. The structural characteristics of the knitted fabrics were analyzed by measuring the number of courses and wales per centimeter, stitch density, yarn loop length, weight, and thickness. The compression properties were determined by measuring compressibility, thickness loss, and compressive resilience. The strength properties were investigated by measuring the bursting strength and ball traverse elongation. The results showed that stitch density and raw material composition affect compression properties, raw material composition affects strength properties, and washing affects structural characteristics, compression, and strength properties of knitted fabrics. After washing, all knitted fabrics increased in the number of courses and wales per centimeter, stitch density, weight, thickness, compressibility, thickness loss, and ball traverse elongation, and decreased in compressive resilience and bursting strength. Additionally, shrinkage of the knitted fabrics was observed after washing. Also, cotton and organic wool fabrics decreased in yarn loop length, while wool knitted fabric increased in yarn loop length after washing.

Influence of pilling on the quality of flax single jersey knitted fabrics

AB  - In this work, the quality of four plain single jersey weft-knitted fabrics (produced from the same flax yarn) having different structural characteristics (stitch density, weight, and thickness) before and after pilling, was examined. The quality of knitted fabrics was evaluated in terms of their compression (compressibility, thickness loss, and compressive resilience), comfort (air permeability and water retention), and strength (bursting strength and ball traverse elongation) properties. The obtained results revealed that the fabric with the lowest structural characteristic values has the highest compressibility, thickness loss, and air permeability, while the least compressive resilience, water retention, bursting strength, and ball traverse elongation, both before and after pilling. Pilling causes a decrease of compressibility, thickness loss, air permeability, water retention (for three lightweight fabrics), bursting strength, and ball traverse elongation but an increase in compressive resilience and water retention (for the most compact fabric). All studied knitted fabrics have excellent quality before pilling and excellent to good quality after pilling. A pilling leads to a decrease in the quality of all fabrics, especially of those with the least compact structure. Sample with moderate compactness possesses the best overall quality.

AB  - This work aimed to investigate the quality of three plain single jersey weft-knitted fabrics produced from the same flax yarn but with different structural characteristics. The quality of knitted fabrics was evaluated in terms of their electro-physical and compression properties. DC volume electrical resistivity and dielectric properties (effective relative dielectric permeability and AC specific electrical conductivity) were examined in the scope of this investigation. Compressibility and compressive resilience were selected to determine the influence of compression properties on the quality of the knitted fabrics. The current study showed that the sample with the highest stitch density, weight, thickness, moisture content, and the lowest porosity, has the lowest DC volume electrical resistivity and compressibility, but the highest effective relative dielectric permeability, AC specific electrical conductivity, and compressive resilience. Based on the application of the ranking method, the best quality sfowed the knitted fabric with the most compact structure and the highest moisture content; the worst quality was manifested by the knitted fabric with the least compact structure and the lowest moisture content.
AB  - Cilj ovog rada je bio da se ispita kvalitet tri desno-leve potkine pletenine izrađene od istog lanenog prediva, ali različitih strukturnih karakteristika. Kvalitet pletenina je ocenjivan u pogledu njihovih elektrofizičkih i kompresionih svojstava. U okviru ovog istraživanja ispitivana su specifična zapreminska električna otpornost i dielektrična svojstva (efektivna relativna dielektrična propustljivost i specifična električna provodljivost). Kompresibilnost i elastični oporavak su odabrani da bi se utvrdio uticaj kompresionih svojstava na kvalitet pletenina. Sprovedeno ispitivanje je pokazalo da uzorak sa najvećom gustinom petlji, površinskom masom, debljinom, sadržajem vlage i najmanjom poroznošću ima najmanju specifičnu zapreminsku električnu otpornost i kompresibilnost, ali najveću efektivnu relativnu dielektričnu propustljivost, specifičnu električnu provodljivost i elastični oporavak. Na osnovu metode rangiranja ustanovljeno je da najbolji kvalitet ima pletenina najkompaktnije strukture sa najvećim sadržajem vlage; najlošiji kvalitet ispoljava pletenina najmanje kompaktne strukture sa najmanjim sadržajem vlage.

Kompresibilnost i elastični oporavak su odabrani da bi se utvrdio uticaj kompresionih svojstava na kvalitet pletenina. Sprovedeno ispitivanje je pokazalo da uzorak sa najvećom gustinom petlji, površinskom masom, debljinom, sadržajem vlage i najmanjom poroznošću ima najmanju specifičnu zapreminsku električnu otpornost i kompresibilnost, ali najveću efektivnu relativnu dielektričnu propustljivost, specifičnu električnu provodljivost i elastični oporavak. Na osnovu metode rangiranja ustanovljeno je da najbolji kvalitet ima pletenina najkompaktnije strukture sa najvećim sadržajem vlage; najlošiji kvalitet ispoljava pletenina najmanje kompaktne strukture sa najmanjim sadržajem vlage.",

AB  - The aim of this work was to investigate the volume electrical resistivity of three plain single jersey weft-knitted fabrics produced from the same flax yarn but with different structural characteristics. The influence of structural characteristics of knitted fabrics (number of courses, mass per unit area, and thickness), atmospheric conditions (relative air humidity and temperature), as well as pilling caused by abrading knitted fabrics with the same knitted fabric, on the volume electrical resistivity of knitted fabrics, were examined in the scope of this investigation. The study showed that the increase in structural characteristics leads to a decrease in the volume resistivity of knitted fabrics. A decrease in air humidity causes an increase in the volume resistivity of investigated knitted fabrics. An increase in temperature causes a decrease in volume resistivity in all examined knitted fabrics. Furthermore, a decrease in the volume resistivity for all knitted fabrics after pilling was registered.

AB  - In this work, the volume electrical resistivity and dielectric loss tangent of viscose/polypropylene multipurpose nonwoven fabrics were examined. According to the obtained results, the changes in the volume electrical resistivity depend on the applied chemical bonding agent, viscose fiber content, moisture content, fabric thickness, fabric weight, and relative air humidity. Based on the volume electrical resistivity hysteresis, the portion of sorbed moisture retained in the material after desorption, as well as the portion of moisture removed from the material during desorption, were determined. Furthermore, the dielectric loss tangent measured at the frequency range between 30 Hz and 140 kHz, for the samples exposed to different relative air humidity (40 % and 80 %) and wet samples, is dependent on the chemical bonding agent, viscose fiber content, moisture content, as well as frequency of the external electric field. The dielectric loss tangent measured at 80 % relative air humidity showed a peak at about 100 Hz, while for the wet samples, the peak was observed in the frequency range between 30 and 140 kHz. In a wet state, the dielectric loss tangent is primarily influenced by the water molecules present in the sample.

AB  - U radu je ispitivan uticaj termičkog fiksiranja tkane međupostave na kvalitet tkanina ocenjen sa aspekta njihove specifi čne zapreminske električne otpornosti. Ispitivanja su obuhvatila tkanine od pamuka, lana, viskoze, poliestra i mešavine pamuk/poliestar izrađene u platno prepletaju i tkaninu dobijenu od mešavine pamučnih i poliestarskih vlakana u keper 3/1S prepletaju. U svojstvu međupostave, korišćena je pamučna tkanina sa tačkasto nanetim termoplastičnim vezivnim sredstvom. Dobijeni rezultati su pokazali da na specifičnu zapreminsku električnu otpornost tkanina utiče njihov sirovinski sastav, prepletaj, vrsta upotrebljenog prediva, gustina tkanina koja je posebno izražena kod međupostave, proces termičkog fiksiranja međupostave kao i vlažnost vazduha u kome se nalazi tekstilni materijal. Termičko fiksiranje međupostave u velikoj meri smanjuje specifičnu zapreminsku električnu otpornost poliestarske tkanine (499 puta u pravcu osnove i 860 u pravcu potke), a povećava otpornost ostalih tkanina u rasponu od 1,3 puta kod viskozne i tkanine dobijene od mešavine pamučnih i poliestarskih vlakana u platno prepletaju do 3,9 puta kod tkanine keper prepletaja. Na osnovu sprovedenog ispitivanja može se zaključiti da se kvalitet ispitivanih tkanina, ocenjen na osnovu njihovih električnih otpornosti, značajno poboljšava u slučaju poliestarske tkanine, odnosno pogoršava kod preostalih tkanina posle termičkog fiksiranja međupostave.
AB  - In this paper, the influence of thermal fixation of woven interlining on the quality of woven fabrics, evaluated from the aspect of their dc volume electrical resistivity, was investigated. The plain weave fabrics made from cotton, flax, viscose, polyester, and cotton/polyester blends and 3/1S twill weave fabric obtained from cotton and polyester fibers blend were investigated. A cotton fabric with a point-applied thermoplastic binder was used as an interlining. The obtained results showed that the dc volume electrical resistivity of fabrics is influenced by their chemical composition, type of weave, type of yarn, fabric density which is especially pronounced in the interlining, the process of thermal fixation of the interlining, and ambient air humidity. The thermal fixation of the woven interlining greatly reduces the dc volume electrical resistivity of polyester fabric (499 times in the warp direction and 860 times in the weft direction), and increases the resistivity of other fabrics in the range of 1.3 times for viscose fabric and fabric obtained from cotton and polyester fibers blend in plain weave to 3.9 times for twill weave fabric. Based on the conducted investigation, it can be concluded that the quality of the tested fabrics evaluated from the aspect of their electrical resistivities, was significantly improved in the case of polyester fabric i.e worsens in the other investigated fabrics after thermal fixation of the woven interlining.

AB  - U radu su ispitivani parametri komfora odevnih tkanina pre i posle termičkog fiksiranja međupostave. Kao eksperimentalni materijal korišćene su dve tkanine dobijene od mešavine pamučnih i poliestarskih vlakana izrađene u keper 3/1S prepletaju, kao i pamučna tkana međupostava sa tačkasto nanetim termoplastičnim vezivnim sredstvom. Od parametara komfora određivani su propustljivost vazduha i specifična zapreminska električna otpornost. Dobijeni rezultati su pokazali da je propustljivost vazduha u funkciji poroznosti ispitivanih uzoraka, njihove debljine i termičkog fiksiranja međupostave, dok je specifična zapreminska električna otpornost u funkciji strukturnih karakteristika tkanina, termičkog fiksiranja međupostave i relativne vlažnosti vazduha. Registrovano je da termičko fiksiranje međupostave dovodi do smanjenja propustljivosti vazduha i porasta vrednosti specifične zapreminske električne otpornosti ispitivanih tkanina.
AB  - In this paper, comfort parameters of clothing woven fabrics, before and after thermal fixation of interlining, were investigated. Two woven fabrics obtained from cotton and polyester fiber blends made in twill 3/1S weave, as well as cotton fusible woven dot fuse coat interlining, were used as experimental material. Air permeability and dc volume electrical resistivity were investigated as comfort parameters. The obtained results showed that the air permeability is in a function of porosity of the tested samples, their thickness and thermal fixation of interlining, while the dc volume electrical resistivity is in a function of the structural characteristics of woven fabrics, thermal fixation of interlining as well as relative air humidity. It is observed that the thermal fixation of interlining leads to a reduction in air permeability and an increase in the value of dc volume electrical resistivity of the tested woven fabrics.

Kao eksperimentalni materijal korišćene su dve tkanine dobijene od mešavine pamučnih i poliestarskih vlakana izrađene u keper 3/1S prepletaju, kao i pamučna tkana međupostava sa tačkasto nanetim termoplastičnim vezivnim sredstvom. Od parametara komfora određivani su propustljivost vazduha i specifična zapreminska električna otpornost. Dobijeni rezultati su pokazali da je propustljivost vazduha u funkciji poroznosti ispitivanih uzoraka, njihove debljine i termičkog fiksiranja međupostave, dok je specifična zapreminska električna otpornost u funkciji strukturnih karakteristika tkanina, termičkog fiksiranja međupostave i relativne vlažnosti vazduha. Registrovano je da termičko fiksiranje međupostave dovodi do smanjenja propustljivosti vazduha i porasta vrednosti specifične zapreminske električne otpornosti ispitivanih tkanina., In this paper, comfort parameters of clothing woven fabrics, before and after thermal fixation of interlining, were investigated. Two woven fabrics obtained from cotton and polyester fiber blends made in twill 3/1S weave, as well as cotton fusible woven dot fuse coat interlining, were used as experimental material. Air permeability and dc volume electrical resistivity were investigated as comfort parameters. The obtained results showed that the air permeability is in a function of porosity of the tested samples, their thickness and thermal fixation of interlining, while the dc volume electrical resistivity is in a function of the structural characteristics of woven fabrics, thermal fixation of interlining as well as relative air humidity. It is observed that the thermal fixation of interlining leads to a reduction in air permeability and an increase in the value of dc volume electrical resistivity of the tested woven fabrics.",

Kvalitet sunđerastih krpa ocenjen na osnovu prekidnih svojstava

AB  - U radu su ispitivana prekidna svojstva dve grupe sunđerastih krpa dostupnih na tržištu Republike Srbije. Jednu grupu su činile sunđeraste krpe dobijene od mešavine viskoze i pamuka (uzorci 1-3), dok je druga grupa obuhvatala krpe ojačane poliestarskom mrežom (uzorci 4 i 5). Od prekidnih svojstava su određivani prekidna sila, prekidno izduženje, sila probijanja i hod kugle pri probijanju. Ispitivanja su realizovana na uzorcima neposredno nakon njihovog vađenja iz komercijalnog pakovanja (mokri uzorci), i sušenja na vazduhu (T=30 °C, φ=40%) u trajanju od dva dana (suvi uzorci). Dobijeni rezultati su pokazali da su ispitivana prekidna svojstva u funkciji sirovinskog sastava krpa i vlažnosti ispitivanih uzoraka, dok su prekidna sila i prekidno izduženje takođe i u funkciji pravca ispitivanja (uzdužni ili poprečni). Rezultati ocene kvaliteta ispitivanih krpa, dobijeni na osnovu kompleksnog koefi cijenta kvaliteta, pokazali su da samo uzorak 3 poseduje dobar kvalitet, dok ostala četiri uzorka imaju odličan kvalitet kako u mokrom, tako i u suvom stanju.
AB  - In this paper, the strength properties of the two groups of sponge cloths available on the market of the Republic of Serbia were investigated. One group of sponge cloths was made of viscose - cotton fiber blend (Samples 1 to 3), while the other group was reinforced with a polyester net (Samples 4 and 5). Strength properties of investigated cloths were determined based on tensile strength, tensile elongation, bursting strength and ball traverse elongation. Investigations were carried out on samples immediately after their removal from commercial packaging (wet samples) and drying on the air (T=30 °C, φ=40%) in the duration of two days (dry samples). The obtained results showed that examined strength properties are in a function of the raw material composition of the sponge cloth and moisture content in the investigated samples, while the tensile strength and tensile elongation are also in a function of the direction of the investigation (machine direction or cross direction). The results of the quality assessment of the investigated sponge cloths, obtained based on the complex criterion of quality, showed that only the sample 3 has good quality, while the other four samples have excellent quality, both in wet and dry condition.

AB  - Compression and strength properties of viscose/polypropylene nonwoven fabrics has been studied. Compression behavior of the nonwoven samples (sample compressibility, sample thickness loss & sample compressive resilience) have been analyzed considering the magnitude of applied pressure, fabric weight, fabric thickness, and the porosity of the samples. Based on the calculated porosity of the samples, pore compression behavior (pore compressibility, porosity loss & pore compressive resilience) are determined. Equations for the determination of pore compressibility, porosity loss, and pore compressive resilience, are established. Tensile strength and elongation as well as bursting strength and ball traverse elongation are also determined. The results show that the sample compression behavior as well as pore compression behavior depend on the magnitude of applied pressure. At the high level of applied pressure, a sample with higher compressibility has the lower sample compressive resilience. Differences in pore compressibility and porosity loss between investigated samples have also been registered, except in pore compressive resilience. Sample with the higher fabric weight, higher thickness, and lower porosity shows the lower sample compressibility, pore compressibility, sample thickness loss, porosity loss, and tensile elongation, but the higher tensile strength, bursting strength, and ball traverse elongation.

AB  - U radu je ukazano na značaj poznavanja elektrofizičkih svojstava tekstilnih materijala. Dat je pregled metoda za određivanje električne otpornosti tekstilnih materijala, sa akcentom na metode razvijene na Katedri za tekstilno inženjerstvo Tehnološko-metalurškog fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu. Istaknut je značaj određivanja električne otpornosti vlakana i pređa u smislu pružanja informacija o sklonosti tekstilnih materijala ka generisanju statičkog naelektrisanja u procesu proizvodnje, a tkanina, pletenina i netkanih tekstilnih 
materijala sa aspekta karakterisanja gotovih tekstilnih proizvoda u pogledu stvaranja statičkog naelektrisanja i njegovog uticaja na upotrebna svojstva gotovih proizvoda. U radu je dat i prikaz metoda za kontrolu i sniženje statičkog naelektrisanja na tekstilnom materijalu.
AB  - In this work, the importance of knowing the electrophysical properties of textile materials was pointed out. A review of the methods for determining the electrical resistance of textile materials is given, with emphasis on methods developed at the Department of Textile Engineering of the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, University of Belgrade. Determining the electrical resistance of fibers and yarns plays a role in providing information on the tendency of textile materials to generate static electricity in the production process. Determining the electrical resistance of woven, knitted and nonwoven fabrics allows us to predict whether these textile products would generate static electricity, and the impact it would have on the usability of finished 
products. This work also presents a review of methods for controlling and decreasing static electricity in textile materials.

AB  - Textile materials like woven, knitted and nonwoven fabrics are good insulators with very high
electrical resistance. It is known that dielectric properties (effective dielectric permeability, electrical
conductivity, and dielectric loss tangent) and electrical resistivity (volume resistivity and surface
resistivity) of fabric are depending on several factors such as fiber type, fabric structure, moisture
content of the material, air humidity, temperature, etc. The purpose of this investigation is to study the
influence of the different content of viscose and polypropylene as well as the type of web bonding on
the dielectric loss tangent and volume electrical resistivity. Also, the dielectric loss tangent was
analyzed over a range of frequencies from 30 Hz to 140 kHz. Three investigated nonwoven fabrics
were mechanically and thermally bonded, and one of the samples was additionally chemically
bonded. The investigations were realized at 40 % relative air humidity.
Conducted analyses show that at frequencies below 100 Hz all investigated samples have
higher, while at higher frequencies, the investigated samples show lower values of loss tangent.
Namely, gradually decrease of the loss tangent value with the increase in the frequency from 30 Hz to
140 kHz was registered. The highest loss tangent value shows the sample with the highest viscose
fiber content and thus the highest number of polar hydroxyl groups. The smallest loss tangent value
was registered for a sample which was additionally chemically bonded.
Results obtained for the volume electrical resistivity was in accordance with the loss tangent
values. The lowest resistivity value was recorded for sample with the highest viscose fiber content
both in the machine direction as well as in the cross direction (5.27 GΩ∙cm and 5.03 GΩ∙cm,
respectively), while the highest resistivity value was registered for additionally chemically bonded
sample also in both investigated direction (11.84 GΩ∙cm and 12.51 GΩ∙cm, respectively). Some little
differences in volume electrical resistivity in the machine and in cross direction are probably due to
the fiber orientation in the samples and the number of contacts established between the fibers, because
better contact between fibers causes an easier flow of charge.

AB  - In this work, an experimental study on compression properties of two E-glass 3D woven fabrics, known as integrally woven sandwich fabrics, has been presented. Compression properties of 2D face fabrics and the core, as structural parts of integrally woven sandwich fabric, have also been investigated. Compression behavior of the samples (compressibility, compression work, and compressive resilience) was analyzed from the aspect of the weave design of face fabrics and the core structure (shape and density of the pile yarns). Results of the investigation showed that 8 shaped core structure, the greater surface density of the pile yarns, and the less compact structure of face fabrics ensure better compression properties of 3D fabrics. Specific weave design of face fabrics and the structure of the core significantly influence the behavior of 3D fabrics during successive increases, followed by a gradual decrease of pressure. During the loading of 3D woven structures, three regions of curves can clearly be seen compared to two regions which are registered at 2D face fabrics. Concerning 3D woven fabrics, the first region represents compression of the core, the second region is prolonged core compression and the third region refers to the simultaneous compression of pile yarns in the core and face fabrics. The density of pile yarns plays an important role in the region 1. In region 2, both the shape and density of the pile yarns are significant. Influence of the weave of face fabrics on compression behavior of 3D fabric can be noticed to a lesser extent in the region 2 and, especially in the region 3, where highly packed yarns assemblies are created.

AB  - U radu su ispitivana kompresiona svojstva odevnih tkanina pre i posle termičkog fiksiranja tkane međupostave. Kao eksperimentalni materijal korišćene su tkanine sirovinskog sastava pamuk/poliestar izrađene u keper 3/1S prepletaju. Od kompresionih svojstva određivani su kompresibilnost, gubitak debljine i elastični oporavak. Dobijeni rezultati su pokazali da su ispitivana kompresiona svojstva u funkciji strukturnih karakteristika tkanina, kao i uticaja termičkog fiksiranja međupostave. Registrovano je da fiksiranje međupostave dovodi do porasta kompresibilnosti i gubitka debljine, ali i do smanjenja elastičnog oporavka tkanine.

Woven fabrics of cotton/polyester fiber blends made in twill 3/1 weave were used as experimental material. Compression properties of investigated fabrics were determined based on compressibility, thickness loss, and compressive resilience. Obtained results showed that examined compression properties are in a function of structural characteristics of woven fabrics as well as thermal fixation of the interlining. It is noted that the fixation of the interlining leads to an increase in compressibility and thickness loss, but to a decrease in the compressive resilience of the fabric.

AB  - In this work, the compression behaviour of clothing woven fabrics, before and after abrasion on the Martindale's device, has been examined. Plain and 3/1 twill weave fabrics from cotton and cotton/polyester fiber blends served as experimental material. Compression behaviour of the investigated fabrics was analyzed taking the compressibility, thickness loss, and compressive resilience into consideration. Obtained results showed that the changes of compression properties are in a function of the structural parameters of tested fabrics, as well as damages caused by abrasion. Besides, the results of compressibility, thickness loss, and compressive resilience enabled establishing the quality of examined fabrics based on values of complex criterion. Calculated value of complex criterion pointed to the conclusion that abrasion causes the reduction of quality of tested fabrics in a small extent. Twill weave fabric made of cotton/polyester fiber blends is characterized by the best quality while cotton plain weave fabric has the worst quality, before as well as after abrasion.

Quality of clothing fabrics in terms of their comfort properties

AB  - Quality of various clothing woven fabrics with respect to their comfort properties, such as electro-physical properties, air permeability, and compression properties has been studied. Fabrics are produced from cotton and cotton/polyester fibre blends in plain, twill, satin and basket weave. Results show that cotton fabrics have lower values of the volume resistivity, air permeability and compressive resilience but higher values of effective relative dielectric permeability and compressibility as compared to fabrics that have been produced from cotton/PES fibre blends. Regression analysis shows a strong linear correlative relationship between the air permeability and the porosity of the woven fabrics with very high coefficient of linear correlation (0.9807). It is also observed that comfort properties are determined by the structure of woven fabrics (raw material composition, type of weave) as well as by the fabrics surface condition. Findings of the studies have been used for estimating the quality of woven fabrics in terms of their comfort properties by the application of ranking method. It is concluded that the group of cotton fabrics exhibits better quality of comfort as compared to the group of cotton/PES blend fabrics.

Regression analysis shows a strong linear correlative relationship between the air permeability and the porosity of the woven fabrics with very high coefficient of linear correlation (0.9807). It is also observed that comfort properties are determined by the structure of woven fabrics (raw material composition, type of weave) as well as by the fabrics surface condition. Findings of the studies have been used for estimating the quality of woven fabrics in terms of their comfort properties by the application of ranking method. It is concluded that the group of cotton fabrics exhibits better quality of comfort as compared to the group of cotton/PES blend fabrics.",

AB  - The subject of this paper is the behaviour of the biomedical fibrous materials in the form of transdermal sistem for wound dressing, consisting of a nonwoven textile base which contains polypropylene (PP) / viscose, a polymer carrier and an antimicrobial active substances. The polymer carrier of the antimicrobial active substance is the polysaccharide D-glucosamine (chitosan), and the active antimicrobial substance is gentamicin sulphate, sodium fusidate, as well as autochthone essential oils (Abies Sibirica) and (Rosmarinus Officinalis) nature antimicrobial preparations. Bioactivity of obtained antimicrobial fibrous materials was tested in vitro on different groups of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria: Staphilococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Especially good results regarding the observed bacteria are shown biomedical fibrous material with gentamicin sulfate. This antimicrobial material could be the ideal dressing for protection of the wound from external contaminations.
AB  - U ovom radu je proučeno ponašanje biomedicinskog vlaknastog materijala, u obliku transdermalnog sistema, koji se sastoji od netkane tekstilne podloge sirovinskog sastava polipropilen viskoza, polimer nosača i antimikrobne aktivne supstance. Polimer nosač antimikrobne aktivne supstance je polisaharid D-glukozamin (hitozan), a aktivne supstance gentamicinsulfat, natrijumfusidat i autohtona esencijalna ulja sibirske jele (Abies Sibirica) i ruzmarina (Rosmarinus Officinalis), prirodna antimikrobna sredstva. Bioaktivnost dobijenih antimikrobnih vlaknastih materijala testirana je in vitro. na različite vrste gram-pozitivnih i gram-negativnih mikroorganizama: Staphilococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Visoku efikasnost pokazao je biomedicinski vlaknasti materijal koji sadrži gentamicinsulfat. Ovi antimikrobni materijali mogu biti idealni flasteri za zaštitu rana od spoljašnje kontaminacije.

Antimicrobial oxidized hemp fibers with incorporated silver particles

AB  - In this study, antimicrobial silver-loaded hemp fibers were prepared by selective TEMPO-mediated oxidation, i.e., oxidation with sodium hypochlorite, catalytic amount of sodium bromide and the 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpipe-ridine-1-oxy radical (TEMPO), followed by silver sorption from aqueous silver nitrate solution. The most suitable experimental conditions for the selective TEMPO-mediated oxidation were determined by changing the oxidation conditions, i.e., the concentration of sodium hypochlorite and the duration of oxidation. The obtained results showed that the maximum sorption capacity of 0.703 mmol of silver per gram of modified hemp fibers was obtained for the sample oxidized with 9.67 mmol NaClO per gram of fibers for 4 h. SEM Microphotographs of the modified hemp fibers with incorporated silver showed uniformly distributed silver particles on the surface of fibers, with isometric shapes and sizes from 10 to 100 nm, despite the fact that silver was sorbed from an ionic solution. The antibacterial activity of the TEMPO-oxidized hemp fibers with silver particles was confirmed in vitro against two strains: Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923) and Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922), and the antifungal activity against Candida albicans (ATCC 24433). The best antimicrobial activity of silver-loaded TEMPO-oxidized hemp fibers was showed against strain S. aureus.
AB  - Cilj ovog rada je dobijanje antimikrobnih vlakana konoplje sa sorbovanim srebrom. Modifikovanje vlakana konoplje u cilju povećanja sorpcionih svojstava, a time i što boljeg sorbovanja srebra, postignuto je selektivnom TEMPO-oksidacijom, tj. oksidacijom pomoću katalizatora 2,2,6,6-tetrametilpiperidin-1-oksi radikala (TEMPO) u sistemu natrijum-hipohlorit/natrijum-bromid, dok je srebro sorbovano iz rastvora srebro-nitrata. Promenom parametara oksidacije, tj. koncentracije natrijum-hipohlorita i vremena oksidacije, određeni su najpogodniji uslovi izvođenja TEMPO-oksidacije. Dobijeni rezultati pokazali su da je maksimalni sorpcioni kapacitet (0,703 mmol srebra po gramu vlakna) modifikovanih vlakana konoplje dobijen kod uzorka koji je oksidisan pomoću 9,67 mmol NaClO po gramu celuloze, tokom 4 sata. SEM mikrofotografije modifikovanih vlakana konopolje sa sorbovanim srebrom pokazale su, na površini vlakana, ravnomernu distribuciju čestica srebra izometričnog oblika i nano veličine (od 10 do 100 nm), uprkos činjenici da je srebro sorbovano iz jonskog rastvora. Komparativno ispitivanje otpornosti tkanina prema abraziji

AB  - U ovom radu ispitivana je otpornost tkanina prema abraziji upotrebom Martindale-ovog uređaja. Otpornost tkanina prema abraziji ocenjena je primenom standardizovane Martindale-ove metode koja podrazumeva, sa jedne strane, određivanje oštećenja epruvete preko broja abrazionih pokreta koji dovode do prekida dve odvojene pređe u ispitivanoj epruveti, a sa druge strane, određivanje procenta gubitka mase epruvete. Standardizovana Martindale-ova metoda je dopunjena određivanjem smanjenja debljine ispitivanih tkanina tokom abrazije. Sve promene na materijalu su praćene sa aspekta sirovinskog sastava tkanina, vrste prepletaja, broja abrazionih pokreta i intenziteta primenjenog opterećenja. Ispitivanja su pokazala saglasnost rezultata dobijenih primenom sva tri pokazatelja pri određivanju abrazione otpornosti tkanina.
AB  - In this paper the abrasion resistance of woven fabrics using the Martindale's device was investigated. The abrasion resistance of the woven fabrics was evaluated using standardized Martindale's method which means the number of rubs when two separated threads at specimen were completely broken, as well as the loss of the specimen mass. Martindale's standardized method was supplemented by the determination of the loss of thickness of investigated woven fabrics during abrasion. All changes of woven materials are monitored from the aspect of material composition, type of weave, the number of rubbing cycles and intensity of the applied specimen loading. Tests have shown the accordance of the results obtained by applying of all three indicators during investigation of woven fabrics abrasion resistance.

AB  - Non-woven textile materials have been increasingly used for a variety of applications in industry and daily life. This imposes a need for the investigation of electrical properties in different conditions of their usage. In the scope of this investigation, electrical conductivity and dielectric properties such as relative dielectric permeability and dielectric loss tangent of various polyester non-woven textile materials were determined. Experimental values of frequency were in the limits of 80 kHz to 2 MHz at relative environmental humidity of 30%. In addition, aimed at discovering the behaviour of investigated material from the aspect of electrical conductivity in various conditions of environmental humidity, the electrical conductance was measured both at 30% and 80% of relative environmental humidity in the electric periodic field at the frequency of 1 MHz All measurements were realised at the temperature of 30 degrees C. Obtained results showed that with the increase of frequency of electric periodic field electrical conductivity of tested samples increases, while the values of dielectric properties decrease. Furthermore, it was found that the increase of relative environmental humidity provokes the increase of electrical conductivity of tested non-woven samples

AB  - The aim of this work was to investigate the antimicrobial activity of knitted fabric intended for medical purposes as well as the influence of antimicrobial treatment on the compression work, volume resistivity, water sorption. and water retention of the examined material. Polyamide/elastane plain jersey knitted fabric was treated with a polymer matrix of chitosan gel in which either gentamicin sulfate or autochthonous essential oil of Picea abies was incorporated as an active substance. The treated fabrics showed a wide range of antimicrobial activity on microorganisms (Staphilococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella and Candida albicans ) and therefore may have various medical applications. However, antimicrobial treatment changed the mechanical and physical-hygienic properties of the knitted fabric. The antimicrobial coatings decreased the total, elastic and irreversible compression work, water sorption, and volume resistivity, and increased the water retention of the fabrics. Antimicrobial treatment with chitosan and gentamicin sulfate produced a knitted fabric with good antimicrobial properties. However, if good mechanical and physical-hygienic properties are required, antimicrobial treatment with chitosan and essential oil of Picea abies has the advantage over treatment with gentamicin sulfate.

AB  - This article presents part of an extensive study of the deformity mechanism of weaves, which dealing with the influence of various parameters of fabric behavior under action of different mechanical loads. Investigation of the strength and mechanism of relaxation, depending of the structural geometry of woven constructions enables the planning based on its resistance and behavior in the course of utilization. .
AB  - Ovaj rad je jedan od segmenata opsežnih istraživanja deformacionih mehanizama tkanina, koji proučava uticaj različitih parametara na ponašanje materijala pod dejstvom različitih mehaničkih sila. Istraživanje jačine i mehanizma relaksacije u zavisnosti od strukturalne geometrije, pruža mogućnost planiranja konstrukcije tkanine sa aspekta njene otpornosti i ponašanja pri upotrebi. Kao parametar koji kvantitativno predstavlja vrstu konstrukcije izabran je stepen povezanosti prepletaja koji predstavlja unutrašnje odnose karakterističnih polja pri različitim načinima ukrštanja osnove i potke. Rezultati merenja jačine, izduženja i relaksacije sa odgovarajućim komponentama deformacije u korelaciji sa stepenom povezanosti prepletaja daju opšti trend ponašanja različitih tipova konstrukcije. Na osnovu ustanovljenog trenda i mehaničkih modela kao reprezenta ponašanja tkanina pri upotrebi, moguće je skratiti i pojednostaviti postupak planiranja i povećati njegovu pouzdanost. .

AB  - The bending ability of cotton, wool and viscose woven fabrics under the action of their own weight has been examined using the direct indicators by cantilever method, and indirect indicators by disc method. The results obtained by the usage of direct and indirect indicators are found to be sensitive to raw material as well as constructional characteristics of woven fabrics. Values of direct as well as indirect indicators can be used for establishing the complex estimation of fabrics bending ability.
