dc.description.abstract | Materials were five alumina based commercial refractories with different contents of ( Al2O3 + TiO2) from 28 % to 78 %. Thermal and mechanical properties of the chosen materials, were measured using standard laboratory procedures. Thermal shock resistance of the samples was measured using water quench test ( JUS. B. D.8. 319.) as experimental method. Thermal shock behavior of the samples was predicted using modified resistance parameters. Those parameters were calculated with 4 heat transfer conditions included. The heat transfer coefficient under conditions of free convection for a circular cylinder held in stationary position was calculated for water bath from equation given by Holman. Calculated modified resistance parameters were correlated with the results of the water quench test, Results of the linear regression analysis showed that modified resistance parameters were in good correlation with the experimental results (water quench test). Obtained results suggest that prediction of thermal shock behavior could be obtained using material properties and heat transfer conditions. | en |
