AB - The incombustible portion of coal that remains after burning is known as bottom or fly ash, and it has a detrimental influence on the environment. One of the possible alternatives for reducing the amount of ash deposited in landfills might be the production of useful glass–ceramic from vitrified fly ash. Glass–ceramic was synthesized using fly ash from the thermal power plant "Nikola Tesla" and fluxing additives. Sinter crystallization of the parent glass resulted in glass ceramics. The glass was created by melting a combination of coal fly ash (CFA), Na2CO3, and CaCO3 at T = 1500 °C and quenching the melt in the air. Glass powders were sintered at temperatures 850 and 900 °C. The resulting glass–ceramics were characterized microstructurally, physically, and mechanically. The cavitation erosion of samples was evaluated. The cavitation rate was 0.015 mg/min for the sample sintered at 850 °C and 0.0053 mg/min for the sample sintered at 900 °C. The leaching of heavy metals in glass–ceramic samples was determined using Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure. A low concentration of heavy metals in the leaching solution showed that heavy metals were successfully incorporated in the glass matrix and that obtained glass–ceramics are ecologically safe for usage. Both samples exhibit good resistance to cavitation erosion, suggesting their potential as possible replacements for structural ceramics commonly employed components of hydraulic machinery.

AB - In the proposed study, agro-waste biomass oat straw (OS) was considered a potential adsorbent for Cu(II), Zn(II), and Se(IV) removal from aqueous solutions. In order to obtain material with better adsorption abilities, the OS was modified by a deep eutectic solvent (DES). Structural changes caused by the applied modification route were considered by pHpzc, SEM, FTIR, and DSC/TG analysis. These methods discovered that lignocellulosic biomass degradation and material functionalization were achieved by DES treatment. Preliminary adsorption tests showed an over fourfold increase in capacity upon modification. The kinetic parameters implied that adsorption on modified material followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Different isotherm models were applied to experimental data, while the Sips isotherm model best describes the equilibrium of the adsorption process on the tested modified material. According to this isotherm model, the maximum achieved adsorption capacities of Cu(II), Zn(II), and Se(IV) were 48.21, 55.06, and 87.85 mg/g, respectively. The summarized experimental results revealed that the adsorption process of selected cations on modified OS was predominantly caused by chemisorption, while, in addition to chemisorption, electrostatic forces were also responsible for Se(IV) removal. Desorption test showed that the prepared material could be reused for at least 3 cycles, with minimal efficiency loss. Briefly, this study reinforces that DES-modified agro-waste biomass could be used as a promising adsorbent for cations and oxyanions from wastewater.

AB - This study focuses on establishing an efficient two-step technology, which includes: (1) consecutive adsorption-desorption, using cellulose-based membranes, bCells, and (2) photocatalytic degradation of the fungicide thiophanate-methyl (TPM), using synthesized Ag-P25 and Ce-P25 catalysts. The catalysts, obtained by controlled deposition of Ag2O/Ag and CeO2 onto P25 TiO2 carrier (Degussa), were characterized using ATR-FTIR, XRPD, BET, FESEM, HRTEM, HAADF-EDS and UV–DRS techniques. In order to establish a feasible purification technology, preconcentration of TPM was performed by adsorption, achieving 75.5 and 92.9 mg/g of TPM removal using bCell-EpL and bCell–EpL–TA membranes, respectively, followed by efficient desorption (> 95%) that provided acceptable TPM concentration for photodegradation experiments. Under optimal conditions (0.07 g/L of both catalysts), complete degradation of TPM (5 mg/L) occurred within 2 h, compared to 4 h for the base TiO2 P25. Measurements of quantum yield and the results of HPLC-MS analysis, alongside DFT calculation, assisted in understanding the TPM degradation pathways. New degradation products were detected and proposed from HPLC–MS analysis. Embryotoxic assays, performed on zebrafish (Danio rerio), applied to estimate the toxicity evolution of time-dependent generated TPM degradation products, showed low embryotoxic potential. Chemical oxygen demand (26 mg O2/L) confirmed low ecotoxicological pressure of effluent water.

AB - Great waste production alongside limited natural resources represents huge environmental and economic problems worldwide. Sustainable waste management and industrial production can reduce pollution and gain some economic benefits. Eco-friendly thermal insulators such as foam glasses can be produced using secondary raw materials in open-loop recycling. Foam glasses were successfully produced using green bottle glass and sugar beet factory lime (SBFL), CaCO3-rich waste as a novel foaming agent. Glass powder was mixed with different amounts of SBFL, uniaxially pressed at 20 MPa, and sintered at different temperatures. The influence of sintering temperature and the addition of a foaming agent was examined. Obtained samples were mechanically, thermally, and microstructurally characterized. Results showed that samples sintered at 800 °C have the best properties. Obtained foam glasses can be used in a variety of industries where thermal insulation, non-flammability, and non-toxic materials are required.

AB - Electrophoretic deposition (EPD) was employed to fabricate composite coatings aimed for orthopedic implants. Hydroxyapatite (HAP), poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and chitosan (CS) coatings, with or without antibiotic gentamicin (Gent) were deposited in a single-step process from aqueous suspension, using EPD. Polymer/mineral composite coatings were formed with the aim to mimic the natural composition of bone tissue, along with improved coatings antibacterial properties, at the same time serving as a drug carrier, allowing local administration of antibiotic. Structural and morphological characterization of HAP/PVA/CS and HAP/PVA/CS/Gent coatings was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TG/DTG), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) proving carbonate-substituted HAP. The presence of gentamicin contributed to the bactericidal activity of composite HAP/PVA/CS/Gent coating against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Cytotoxicity studies were performed towards human MRC-5 and mice L929 fibroblast cell lines, and both investigated samples (HAP/PVA/CS and HAP/PVA/CS/Gent) expressed good biocompatibility, without causing toxic effect on tested cells. Biomineralization potential was investigated by measuring the alkaline phosphatase activity, demonstrating high potential of HAP/PVA/CS/Gent to induce the growth of new HAP layer. Therefore, the present investigation proposes the production of composite coatings from non-toxic (aqueous) suspensions, consisting of biocompatible and bioactive components, along with antibiotic gentamicin, improving the antibacterial coatings' properties.

Therefore, the present investigation proposes the production of composite coatings from non-toxic (aqueous) suspensions, consisting of biocompatible and bioactive components, along with antibiotic gentamicin, improving the antibacterial coatings' properties.",

AB - Biocomposite hydroxyapatite/poly(vinyl alcohol)/chitosan/gentamicin coatings were fabricated on titanium by an electrophoretic deposition process (EPD) from an aqueous suspension using the constant voltage method. Characterization of the deposited coatings was performed by scanning electron micros-copy with field emission (FE-SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) after immersion in simulated body fluid (SBF) at 37 °C. The concentration of the released gentamicin was determined using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with a mass spectrometer (MS). The release profile confirmed an initial “burst-release effect” with ~ 30 % of the gen-tamicin released in the first 48 h, which could be of assistance in the prevention of biofilm formation. An-tibacterial activity was proven by the agar diffusion method on Staphylococcus aureus TL and Escherich-ia coli ATCC 25922 bacterial strains. Cytotoxicity was tested by the dye exclusion test (DET) on MRC-5 and L929 fibroblast cell lines, with both coatings expressing nontoxicity. The results showed the high ap-plicability potential of a poly(vinyl alcohol)-based biocomposite coating for medical purposes.

AB - Acid mine drainage is a challenging environmental problem caused by mining activities.
Long-term copper ore exploitation and vast amounts of mining waste lead to severe soil
contamination as well as river and groundwater pollution. In this paper, research is focused
on utilizing waste mine waters and off-balance parts of the mine deposit (such as flotation
tailings) and converting their negative characteristics to an environmentally friendly one. In
the authors’ previous work, acid mine water from Robule, which is part of the Bor copper
mining and smelting complex in Serbia, was successfully treated using flotation tailings, and
the resulting solution was suitable for safe discharge. This paper investigates the characteristics
of the solid residue that remained after the treatment of the modified flotation tailings in order
to evaluate the possibility of its safe disposal back into the environment. The solid residue
was subjected to TCLP and EN 12457-4 tests as standard procedures that assess the leaching
characteristics of a material. The solid residue was also exposed to long-term leaching with
melted snow to simulate environmental conditions for one year. This drainage water was
analyzed and compared with the results of the standard leaching procedures. The investigated
treatments lead to improved economic and environmental effects, while the process itself is
adjusted to preserve the environment.

AB - Two medium-carbon microalloyed steels with a predominant acicular ferrite microstructure were investigated in this study in order to determine the initial micro-crack formation mechanism and the role of acicular ferrite structure in cleavage fracture. In order to ensure cleavage fracture, samples were investigated at −196 °C for uniaxial tension and four point bending fracture. Previous investigations have shown that cleavage fracture for steels with a predominant acicular ferrite microstructure has not been initiated by the fracture of coarse TiN particles as in ferrite-pearlite, bainite, or martensitic microalloyed steels. The average maximal thickness of cementite plates measured in this work is 0.798 µm and 0.966 µm, for V and TiV steel, respectively. The corresponding stress values required for their fracture according to Griffith’s equation are 1970 MPa and 1791 MPa, respectively. Estimated values of the effective surface energy for the V steel with an average cementite volume fraction of 3.8% range from 40 Jm−2 to 86 Jm−2, and for the TiV steel with an average cementite volume fraction of 18.3% range from 55 Jm−2 to 82 Jm−2. The fracture of coarse cementite plates was found to not to be responsible for the cleavage fracture initiation in case of both steels.

AB - Titanium alloys have been present for decades as the main components for the production of various orthopedic and dental elements. However, modern times require titanium alloys with a low Young’s modulus, and without the presence of cytotoxic alloying elements. Machine learning was used with aim to analyze biocompatible titanium alloys and predict the composition of Ti alloys with a low Young’s modulus. A database was created using experimental data for alloy composition, Young’s modulus, and mechanical and thermal properties of biocompatible titanium alloys. The Extra Tree Regression model was built to predict the Young’s modulus of titanium alloys. By processing data of 246 alloys, the specific heat was discovered to be the most influential parameter that contributes to the lowering of the Young’s modulus of titanium alloys. Further, the Monte Carlo method was used to predict the composition of future alloys with the desired properties. Simulation results of ten million samples, with predefined conditions for obtaining titanium alloys with a Young’s modulus lower than 70 GPa, show that it is possible to obtain several multicomponent alloys, consisting of five main elements: titanium, zirconium, tin, manganese and niobium.

AB - In this study, luminescence and antibacterial behavior of pure fluorapatite (FAp) and praseodymium-nitrate-carbonate co-doped fluorapatite (PrNCFAp) nanopowders were investigated. Uniform nanopowders were synthesized by precipitation reaction followed by centrifugation and systematically characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM–EDS, TG and PL methods. XRD analysis revealed the formation of hexagonal FAp crystals, and FTIR spectra indicate the presence of nitrate (NO3−) and carbonate (CO32−) species. SEM analyzes confirm agglomerates composed of irregular nanometer-sized spheres. Emission of FAp nanopowder occurred in the violet-blue region of the visible part of the spectrum, with redshift to the blue-green color region when Pr3+, NO3− and CO32− co-doped in the lattice. Analysis of luminescence spectra by MCR-ALS method extract three fluorophores from the PrNCFAp sample and showed simultaneous existents of emission-reabsorption-emission between dopants in FAp lattice. Antibacterial activity against pathogen Staphylococcus aureus was investigated before and after treatment of nanopowders by UVA radiation of 365 nm. Nanopowders irradiated with UVA compared to non-irradiated reduced Staphylococcus aureus by 84.9% for PrNCFAp and 33.3% for FAp in the first 0.5 h of contact, and 76.1% and 42.9% after 24 h of contact. In addition, the obtained luminescent nanomaterials showed a low degree of hemolytic activity and could potentially be candidates for further research in dentistry.

abstract = "In this study, luminescence and antibacterial behavior of pure fluorapatite (FAp) and praseodymium-nitrate-carbonate co-doped fluorapatite (PrNCFAp) nanopowders were investigated. AB - Peach stones, a valuable agro-industrial by-product available in many countries worldwide, comprise a renewable resource, which can be widely applied for multifunctional purposes. Its important advantages such as high-energy value, low ash content, low price and wide abundance, make peach stones an ideal fuel for energy production, but also for new materials synthesis. Although peach stones exhibit adequate combustion properties, allowing their direct use with minimal physical/chemical treatment, they often need further modification in order to improve their thermal properties, where slow pyrolysis is frequently used. This study aims to provide a practical and effective solution to the revalorization of waste biomass originating from the fruit processing industry, through slow pyrolysis in order to convert this waste into carbonaceous material - biochar. The thermo-chemical conversion of raw biomass resulted in a stable material with excellent fuel properties, with higher mass energy density and grinding ability, providing biochar with properties, in energy sense, similar or even better than a coal. Biochar has a higher fixed carbon content and a higher energy potential than biomass itself, and its application as a biofuel might reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, as it reduces the amount of waste landed and increases the share of energy generated from renewable sources.

AB - Nanomaterials based on metal–doped fluorapatite (FAP) have attracted considerable interest as potential next–generation antimicrobial agents. In this study, Cu2+–doped FAP nanocrystals have been successfully synthesized by a neutralization method at room temperature. Their structural, optical, antimicrobial, and hemcompatible properties have been investigated. XRD, FTIR, FESEM, and N2 adsorption–desorption studies indicate the formation of single–phase FAP mesoporous nanopowders, composed of rod–like particles. TEM images confirmed the formation of nanorodes with a length of 60 nm and a width of about 18 nm. Rietveld analysis shows that the Cu2+ ions preferentially substitute Ca2 (6 h) sites in the hexagonal fluorapatite crystal structure. Fluorescence spectroscopy accompanied by MCR–ALS method confirms substitution of Cu2+ ions in FAP crystal lattice with extracting additional d–d band transition at green color from FAP broadband self–activated luminescence in violet–blue color. Antimicrobial studies conducted on Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Micrococcus lysodeikticus showed that FAP nanopowder with the highest Cu2+ content have strong bacteriostatic action on Staphylococcus aureus bacterial strain in mediums containing nutrition matters. In addition, this sample in comparison to pure FAP achieved a high percentage of relative reduction of bacterial population for all three species, being >90% in most cases. Fungistatic action is noticed too, throwgh the slowing down mycelium growth of fungus Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus and Penicillium roqueforti and reduction of sporulation of Aspergillus niger species. Cu2+–doped FAP nanocrystals shows a synergistic antimicrobial effect with Cu2+ and F− ions. Concerning the potential biomedical applications, the hemolysis ratios of the Cu2+–doped FAP samples were below 5%. The obtained results pointed out the possible use of the synthesized nanocrystals as broad–spectrum antimicrobial agents for various biomedical and health care preparations.

AB - In this study, slow pyrolysis was employed for the thermochemical conversion of peach stones (PS), lignocellulosic waste (LCW) from food industry, to prepare biochar (PS-B), a new and efficient sorbent for the removal of toxic dye, brilliant green (BG), from aqueous solution. Detailed characteristics of PS and PS-B were analysed using pH suspension, pHPZC, zeta potential, particle size distribution, thermogravimetric method (TG-DTG), scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM–EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The results revealed that material loss during slow pyrolysis not only altered the chemical structure of the samples, but also induced the volume shrinking phenomenon, resulting in production of a rougher, porous structure with decreased crystallinity. Also, five times less total organic carbon (TOC) release was demonstrated by biochar compared to native material. Comparison of experimental results for BG sorption by PS and PS-B showed that sorption capacity increased after pyrolysis and that sorption kinetic was significantly improved. The BG sorption by both sorbents followed the pseudo-second-order reaction kinetic model, with the intraparticle diffusion model within pores controlling the adsorption rate in PS-B. Isotherm equilibrium modelling revealed that the Sips isotherm provided the best model fit with maximum sorption capacity of 82.53 and 101.11 mg/g for PS and PS-B, respectively. A possible sorption mechanism of BG was achieved through pore filling (porous diffusion), hydrogen bonding, electrostatic attraction and π-π interactions. The results demonstrated that biochar derived from peach stones can be used as a promising green material for removing BG from contaminated waters.

AB - Unappropriated disposing of unused drugs leads to an increase in their concentration in the
environment. Furthermore, wastewater treatment plants are not sufficient to prevent the
transport of drugs. Microplastics (MPs), which are also recognized as important pollutants,
can be divided into primary and secondary. The primary MPs are produced for commercial
purposes, while the secondary MPs are formed by the decomposition of plastic residues.
The hydrophobic nature and large specific surface area of MPs facilitate pollutants
binding. Animals misunderstand MPs for food and consume it, which could have harmful
health impacts because both MPs and adsorbed pollutants are ingested. In this paper, the
adsorption of the selected drugs - azithromycin, carbamazepine, sulfamethoxazole, and
diclofenac on low-density polyethylene (LDPE), polyamide (PA), and poly(ethylene
terephthalate) (PET) microplastics are presented. The experiment showed that drugs bind
best to PA and that azithromycin has the highest binding affinity.
AB - Neadekvatno odlaganje neiskorišcenih lekova dovodi do povecanja njihove koncentracije u
komercijalne svrhe, a sekundarna nastaje razgradnjom plasticnih ostataka. Hidrofobna
prikazana adsorpcija odabranih lekova - azitromicina, karbamazepina, sulfametoksazola i
diklofenaka na sledecim vrstama mikroplastike - polietilenu niske gustine (LDPE),
poliamidu (PA) i poli(etilen tereftalatu) (PET). Eksperiment je pokazao da se lekovi
najbolje vezuju za PA, kao i da azitromicin ima najveci afinitet vezivanja.

abstract = "Unappropriated disposing of unused drugs leads to an increase in their concentration in the
environment.
The experiment showed that drugs bind
best to PA and that azithromycin has the highest binding affinity., Neadekvatno odlaganje neiskorišcenih lekova dovodi do povecanja njihove koncentracije u
komercijalne svrhe, a sekundarna nastaje razgradnjom plasticnih ostataka. Hidrofobna
prikazana adsorpcija odabranih lekova - azitromicina, karbamazepina, sulfametoksazola i
diklofenaka na sledecim vrstama mikroplastike - polietilenu niske gustine (LDPE),
poliamidu (PA) i poli(etilen tereftalatu) (PET). Eksperiment je pokazao da se lekovi
najbolje vezuju za PA, kao i da azitromicin ima najveci afinitet vezivanja.",

AB - The goal of this research is to investigate the effect of SrO and La2O3 addition on the crystallization characteristics and sintering behavior of polyphosphate glasses. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), hot stage microscopy (HSM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) methods were used to investigate the crystallization and sintering behaviors of glasses. The addition of SrO and La2O3 (1 or 5%), at the expense of phosphate mole fraction in polyphosphate bioactive glass, raises the characteristic temperature of glasses, and resistance to crystallization. Furthermore, the temperature of maximal shrinkage increases with the addition of SrO and La2O3. Surface crystallization is the dominant mechanism of crystallization in all samples. All glasses show complex crystallization leading to the formation of several crystalline phases. Sintered phosphate glass–ceramic containing bioactive β-CaP2O6, α-Ca3(PO4)2, and β-Ca3(PO4)2 phases were successfully prepared.

AB - A calcium-pyro-hydrochar (Ca-PHC) can be distinguished as a novel sorbent of Pb2+ and Cd2+ from an aqueous solution. It was obtained using hydrothermal treatment of the spent mushroom substrate (SMS), followed by a CaCl2·5H2O activation and pyrolysis. The characterisation of chars before and after modifications was done by scanning electron microscope (SEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). Batch experiments were performed to examine Ca-PHC’s sorption properties and binding mechanisms to selected metal ions. The maximum sorption capacities of Ca-PHC for Pb2+ and Cd2+ were 297 mg g−1, and 131 mg g−1, respectively. The obtained results demonstrated that the sorption of Pb2+ and Cd2+ by Ca-PHC follows a pseudo-second kinetic model and Freundlich isotherm. The binding of the selected metals onto Ca-PHC was enabled by the ion-exchange mechanism, surface complexation, mineral precipitation and cation–π interaction. Thermodynamic parameters indicate that metal ions binding by Ca-PHC are spontaneous and endothermic. Due to the high adsorption capacities, the obtained Ca-PHC has good potential for application in industrial wastewater treatment. In addition, the demonstrated use of SMS highlights another possibility of applying this specific biomass relevant to sustainable and economical waste management in the growing mushroom industry.

AB - Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) pith was modified with polyethyleneimine (PEI) in order to improve the adsorption properties. Characterization of both dried Sambucus nigra pith (DSNP) and amino modification of elderberry pith with branched PEI (PEI/DSNP) was performed by: Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), optical microscopy, and porosity determination. The amine and ester number, as well as acid value, were determined on DSNP and PEI/DSNP samples using standard volumetric methods. The samples were used as adsorbents for Pb2+ ions from an aqueous solution in a batch system. The obtained results were fitted using suitable equilibrium isotherm and kinetic models. The maximum adsorption capacity for Pb2+ ions on DSNP and aminаted sample, obtained using Langmuir adsorption isotherm at 298 K, are 18.9 and 47.8 mg g-1, respectively. Based on the kinetic studies, the adsorption process follows the pseudo second-order model. Thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption process is endothermic and spontaneous. In general, the overall adsorption process was improved by modifying starting material with branched PEI modifier by introducing large numbers of amino functionalities having high affinity to cations.

AB - This paper examines the effects of structural-textural characteristics of sulfide minerals on their leaching from polymetallic concentrates with sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide solutions. The polymetallic concentrate was obtained by flotation of polymetallic ore from the Rudnik deposit in Serbia. X-ray diffraction (XRD), qualitative and quantitative mineralogical, scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDX), and chemical analyses were used to characterize the polymetallic concentrate and leach residue. The polymetallic concentrate contained chalcopyrite, galena, sphalerite, pyrrhotite, and quartz. The total content of sulfide minerals was 69.5%, and the occurrence of free sulfide mineral grains was about 60.9%. The comprehensive thermodynamic analysis was done by HSC Chemistry® package 9.9.2.3 to determine optimal experimental leaching conditions. Chalcopyrite, sphalerite, and pyrrhotite oxidized during leaching, and dissolution occurred. The oxidized galena remains in the solid residual as insoluble anglesite. Also, elemental sulfur and unleached minerals of copper, zinc, and iron were found in the leach residues. It was found that the structural assembly of sulfide minerals in the leach residue is very favorable and that undissolved sulfide grains are primarily present in free form. Accordingly, there was no reason to reduce the leaching rate with time. The presence of elemental sulfur and anglesite formed in the leaching process and precipitated on the surface of mineral grains was confirmed by XRD, quantitative and qualitative mineralogical analysis, and SEM/EDX.

AB - Acid mine drainage (AMD) is a waste from mining sites, usually acidic, with high concentrations of sulfates and heavy metal ions. This study investigates the AMD neutralization process using fly ash (FA) as an alternative material. Samples of FA from coal-fired power plants in Serbia (“Nikola Tesla” (EF) and “Kostolac” (KOST)) were analyzed and used. The results were compared with the treatment efficiency of commercial neutralization agent (NaOH). The alkaline nature of FA was the basis for use in the treatment process of the extremely acid Lake Robule (pH 2.46), located in the mining areas of eastern Serbia. The optimal S/L ratio for the AMD neutralization process determined for EF was 25 wt.%, and for KOST it was 20 wt.%. The mechanism of the neutralization process was analyzed using the ANC test and PHREEQC program. The element concentrations and pH values in solutions indicated that FA samples could neutralize Lake Robule with more than 99% of Al, Fe, Cu, Zn, and more than 89% of Pb precipitated. Formation of insoluble (oxy)hydroxide forms (Fe3+ and Al3+ ions) creates favorable conditions for co-precipitation of other trace metals (Cu, Zn, Ni, Pb, and Cd) from AMD, which is further enhanced by cation adsorption on FA particles. FA proved to be a more effective neutralization agent than NaOH due to its adsorption effect, while among the FA samples, KOST was more effective due to the aging process through the carbonization reaction. Using FA as an alternative material is a promising and sustainable method for treating AMD, with economic and environmental benefits.

FA proved to be a more effective neutralization agent than NaOH due to its adsorption effect, while among the FA samples, KOST was more effective due to the aging process through the carbonization reaction. Using FA as an alternative material is a promising and sustainable method for treating AMD, with economic and environmental benefits.",

AB - This study investigates the electrochemical stability of the gold complex based on mercaptotriazole at an optimum pH of nine in the electrolyte with a gold concentration of 2.5 g dm−3. The stability of the complex was studied by visual monitoring and electrochemical characterization of electrolytes over a period of 1 year. Electrochemical characterization of the mercaptotriazole gold complex was performed using open circuit potential measurement, cyclic voltammetry, recording the polarization curves, pH, and conductivity of the electrolyte. Electrochemical characteristics and visual appearance of the mercaptotriazole gold complex at a pH ~ 9 were not significantly changed for one year, with no changes in its visual appearance. The results of this study are important for industrial applications in order to replace cyanide electrolytes with a stable organic complex.

AB - The nucleation process of lithium germanium-phosphate glass was studied to determine the temperature range of nucleation and the temperature of the maximum nucleation rate. The differential thermal analysis (DTA), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to reveal the nonisothermal and isothermal process of nucleation, respectively. The crystallization process occurred at a high homogeneous nucleation rate and the spherulitic crystal growth morphology. Nanostructured samples were obtained.

AB - This paper is focused on the preparation procedures, using a talc-based filler, to improve the rheologic properties of the lost foam refractory coatings. Talc, with grain size of 40 .m, was mechanically activated in a vibration mill over the following times: 10, 20 and 30 min. Depending on the time required for the mechanical activation, the change in the filler grain size and shape was analysed along their effects on the talc-filled lost foam coating dispersion ability and stability. In order to characterize the filler, the following methods were used: X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and optic microscopy. The coating composition was tuned by choosing the suitable grain size and shape factor of the activated filler. In addition, different coating components (additives, solvent) were applied to alter the coating generation procedure. It was shown that the application of this type of the lost foam refractory coatings - water-based coatings - have a positive influence on quality of the aluminium alloy castings, which contributes to reducing the cost of cleaning and processing of the castings. Also, alcohol-based refractory coatings with talc-based activated fillers were tested and used to have the castings produced in the sand moulds.

AB - Pyrophyllite is a mineral raw material suitable for the production of a wider range of products and application in various branches of the economy (construction, agriculture, paper industry).
The technology of pyrophyllite rock processing is ecologically clean, and the products obtained by technological processing of pyrophyllite are not carcinogenic. The paper tested pyrophyllite sample sintered at temperaturi 1150 ºC. Initial sample of pyrophyllite were obtained from the Parsović-BiH deposit. The resistance of these refractory sample to the action of cavitation was determined experimentally using the ultrasonic vibration method with a stationary sample according to the ASTM G32 standard. Based on the value of cavitation velocity and analysis of surface damage morphology, the resistance to cavitation of these sample based on pyrophyllite was determined and the possibility of their application in hydrodynamic operating conditions in which cavitation is expected was asessed.
