AB - The investigation was performed on three woven mesh fabrics made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyamide (PA) 6.6 monofilaments, and PA 6.6 with carbon filament (CF). The dielectric properties were examined as functions of frequency at room conditions and as functions of frequency and temperature under the vacuum. It was observed at lower frequency higher changes of dielectric permittivity for the sample with CFs at room conditions. For PET and PA 6.6, dielectric permittivity in the vacuum was steady and little lower; furthermore, dielectric spectra showed the existence of gamma-, beta-, and alpha-relaxations. The dc volume electrical resistivity was investigated in the function of relative humidity at room temperature for PA 6.6 and PA 6.6 with CF. For the sample with the CF, a decrease in the dc electrical resistivity of nine orders of magnitude in the direction with CF was registered as compared to the direction without a conductive filament.

AB - Liquid transport in textile fabrics determines thermal comfort during high physical activity of a person when liquid perspiration is produced and needs to be transferred away from the skin to keep the thermal balance. In this investigation, an attempt was made to get some indications of how the combination of the fabric composition, geometry and dimensional stability, and the moisture content influences liquid transfer properties of plain weft knitted fabrics. Therefore, the knitted fabrics made from pure hydrophilic (hemp fibres), pure hydrophobic (acrylic fibres) and a hydrophilic/hydrophobic (hemp/acrylic) fibre blend underwent a trial wear and care period. The Malden Mills water distribution test was performed for the knitted fabrics with different moisture contents (0-30 %) in order to evaluate the effect on liquid transfer properties. Water transfer ability and water holding capacity of the knitted fabrics were also determined after undergoing the wear trial test. The obtained results were analysed with respect to macro and micro scales of porosity of knitted fabrics. It has been shown that the geometric configuration of the complex porous network in knitted fabrics influenced their liquid transfer properties in the whole moisture content range regardless of the composition. Despite the reconfiguration of the pore system in the knits during the trial period, their liquid transfer properties were still dependent on the pore size and distribution.

AB - Considering specific mechanical, hygienic and protective properties of hemp, as well as its positive
sustainability aspects, the raising role of hemp fibres in the textile sector can be expected. The limited
deformability of hemp fibres, which has a negative influence on the tactile comfort, can be overcome by
blending them with other soft fibres. In this project, an attempt was made to overcome this limitation by
blending them with soft and warm acrylic fibres so as to avoid any chemical treatments with softeners.
The composition of the knitted fabrics was designed at the knitting production stage, offering the
knitwear factories a new possibility for fibre blending. The produced single jersey knitted fabrics were
evaluated in terms of their thermal behaviour in both steady-state and transient conditions. Since this
type of knitted fabrics is prone to dimensional changes and distortion upon repeated laundering, the
undershirts made thereof were subjected to the wear trial test (repeated wear and care cycles) in real life
situations, in order to assess changes in the thermal properties of the knitted fabrics. Observed changes
in the geometry of the knitted fabrics and morphology of the fibres after a period of wear and care of the
undershirts have had positive effects on the thermal properties of the hemp based knits. Hemp/acrylic
knitted fabric has undergone the biggest change in the geometry, but moderate change in thermal
properties comparing to those of the hemp knit. The values of thermal parameters of the hemp/acrylic
knit after repeated wear and care cycles which were in the range of those of the hemp knit before the
wear trial test, confirmed that the hemp-blend proposed by this study would follow the trend of good
hemp thermal behaviour in terms of comfort at the exploitation stage. The presented results offer a
product design strategy to increase the performance, economic and environmental benefits for both the
producers and consumers.

AB - In this investigation, the influence of alkali treatment conditions on the dielectric loss factor of jute
woven fabric was studied. In that purpose, jute fabric has been alkali treated with NaOH solution
(1%, 5% and 17.5% ) at room temperature for different periods of time (5 min and 30 min). The
jute woven fabric is a heterogeneous three-phase (“fiber-moisture-air”) system, which implies the
need for investigation of jute fabric chemical composition, moisture sorption, crystallinity index
and structural parameters. The obtained results showed that with increasing the alkali treatment
severity, the hemicelluloses content decreased for 14.4-43.3%. In addition, the alkali penetration
induced fiber swelling and disrupting of the crystalline regions which result in a decreased
crystallinity index. Hemicelluloses removal together with the decreased crystallinity index
contributed to the higher availability of cellulose hydroxyl groups which in turns increases the
moisture sorption values of alkali treated jute fabrics (for 7.2-21.0%) compared to the untreated
fabric. With increasing the alkali treatment severity, the fabric thickness and fabric weight
increased, while the fabric porosity decreased. All mentioned properties influence the dielectric loss
factor, which is an important fabric parameter related to the ability of the fabric to dissipate electric
energy or to convert the electric energy to heat. On such way, the obtained increase of the dielectric
loss factor after the alkali treatments (for 2.5-9.2 times) can be attributed to the changes in the fabric
structural characteristics and decrease in the content of hemicelluloses and crystallinity index, as
well as the increased ability for moisture sorption.

AB - The aim of this work was to investigate the influence of dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma
treatment during 30 and 60 seconds on the fibrous polymeric materials made of cotton, polyethylene terephthalate and polypropylene by recording the frequency dependence of the dielectric loss tangent. Furthermore, the changes in the sample surface morphology were observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). By comparing the frequency dependence of the dielectric loss tangent, the same trend with increasing the frequency was noticed for both untreated and treated samples, after 0.5 h as well as 2 and 7 days after plasma treatment. The changes in the value of dielectric loss tangent are small, but it can be noticed that the plasma effect on the cotton sample was maintained after 7 days, which is less noticeable for the samples made of polyethylene terephthalate and polypropylene. The SEM analysis of the cotton sample
showed micro cracks on its surface as a result of plasma etching, while the polyethylene terephthalate fibers appeared darker and rough after the plasma treatment. The changes were more obvious on the samples treated 60 seconds compared to samples treated 30 seconds. There are no significant changes in the polypropylene sample surface morphology.

AB - The jute woven fabric was treated with sodium hydroxide at room
temperature for 5, 30 and 45 min in order to obtain jute fabric with different
hemicelluloses content and to study their influence on the dielectric loss tangent. After
the alkali treatments, as the result of the hemicelluloses removal, the moisture sorption
of the jute fabrics increased. The X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the jute fabrics
with lower hemicelluloses content have a lower crystallinity index, which slightly
increased after the intensive hemicelluloses removal. These results are in a good
agreement with the results obtained for dielectric loss tangent measured at 30% and
80% relative air humidity.

abstract = "The jute woven fabric was treated with sodium hydroxide at room
temperature for 5, 30 and 45 min in order to obtain jute fabric with different
hemicelluloses content and to study their influence on the dielectric loss tangent. After
the alkali treatments, as the result of the hemicelluloses removal, the moisture sorption
of the jute fabrics increased.

AB - Woven jute fabric was treated with NaOH solution of different concentrations for 5 min to
obtain jute fabrics with gradually decreased content of hemicelluloses and increased
moisture sorption. With increasing the concentration of NaOH the crystallinity index
decreased; in the case of NaOH concentration ≥ 10 % the conversion from cellulose Iβ to
cellulose II occurred. The obtained decrease of the volume electrical resistivity after the
alkali treatments can be attributed to the changes in hemicelluloses content, crystallinity
index and moisture sorption. Increased conversion from cellulose Iβ to cellulose II leads to
an increase in the volume electrical resistivity of the mercerized jute fabrics.

AB - The jute woven fabric was treated with sodium hydroxide and sodium chlorite under different conditions in order to study the influence of the chemical composition on their sorption and dielectric properties. After the alkali treatments, the hemicelluloses content decreased in the range of 14.4-46.7%, which leads to elementary fiber liberalization and increased moisture sorption of the jute fabrics up to 15.5% and 11.9% at 30% and 80% relative humidity, respectively. The X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the removal of hemicelluloses for 14.4% and 36.6% was followed by a decrease in the crystallinity index for 3.0% and 18.8%, respectively. The additional decrease in hemicelluloses content of 46.7% was accompanied by a slight increase in the crystallinity index for about 14%. These results are in a good agreement with the results obtained for the AC specific electrical conductivity (at 30% and 80% relative humidity). After the oxidative treatments, the lignin content decreased in the range of 37.8%-79.0%, which causes two parallel effects: a slightly increased moisture sorption (up to 7.4% and 4.6% at 30% and 80% relative humidity, respectively) and crystallinity index (from 4.8%-16.6%). The jute fabrics with 37.8% and 63.2% lower lignin content and similar moisture sorption values have the same AC specific electrical conductivities at both relative humidities (30% and 80%) revealing a dominant effect of moisture sorption. The AC specific electrical conductivity of the investigated jute fabrics increases with increasing the frequency as well as relative air humidity, where the highest difference between the values of AC specific electrical conductivity is obtained at the highest frequency (140 kHz).

AB - Compression and strength properties of viscose/polypropylene nonwoven fabrics has been studied. Compression behavior of the nonwoven samples (sample compressibility, sample thickness loss & sample compressive resilience) have been analyzed considering the magnitude of applied pressure, fabric weight, fabric thickness, and the porosity of the samples. Based on the calculated porosity of the samples, pore compression behavior (pore compressibility, porosity loss & pore compressive resilience) are determined. Equations for the determination of pore compressibility, porosity loss, and pore compressive resilience, are established. Tensile strength and elongation as well as bursting strength and ball traverse elongation are also determined. The results show that the sample compression behavior as well as pore compression behavior depend on the magnitude of applied pressure. At the high level of applied pressure, a sample with higher compressibility has the lower sample compressive resilience. Differences in pore compressibility and porosity loss between investigated samples have also been registered, except in pore compressive resilience. Sample with the higher fabric weight, higher thickness, and lower porosity shows the lower sample compressibility, pore compressibility, sample thickness loss, porosity loss, and tensile elongation, but the higher tensile strength, bursting strength, and ball traverse elongation.

AB - Woven jute fabric was treated with sodium hydroxide solution of different concentrations at room temperature, for different periods of time. After that, jute fabrics with gradually decreased content of hemicelluloses were obtained. The changes of the sorption properties (moisture sorption, water retention power and degree of fiber swelling) and dielectric properties (effective relative dielectric permeability, AC specific electrical conductivity and dielectric loss tangent) of alkali treated jute fabrics were investigated. After the alkali treatments, the degree of accessibility of the cell wall components to water vapor increased with increased severity of the alkali treatment. In parallel, the degree of fiber swelling and total water holding capacity of the fabrics were increased. The dielectric properties are very sensitive to fabric structural characteristics, chemical composition and its ability for moisture sorption. Thus, the obtained increase of the effective relative dielectric permeability after the alkali treatments can be attributed to the changes in the structural characteristics and decrease in the content of hemicelluloses, which further contributed to an increased ability for moisture sorption. The changes in the AC specific electrical conductivity can be explained by the fact that the hemicelluloses not only restrict the freedom of the water molecules to take part in the polarization process, they also change the structure in such a way that the mobility of the ions in the electric field is restricted. The values of dielectric loss tangent increased after the alkali treatments due to the increase in the number of polar groups. [GRAPHICS] .

AB - In the last decades the media have highlighted the ozone depletion as major environmental problem resulting in an increase in ultraviolet radiation (UVR) reaching the earth's surface. Besides the beneficial effects of human exposure to UVR, this radiation is capable of causing damage to human population. The healthy lifestyle is becoming widely accepted by the public, and the UV protection provided by clothing becomes the significant subject of interest of the producers and consumers of textile fabrics. Natural cellulose fibres are commonly used in summer clothing due to their excellent comfort properties. However, these fibres have very poor UV protection ability. In this project, the UV protection property of textile fabrics made of natural and regenerated cellulose fibres have been compared and analysed in order to highlight the potential of hemp fibre for the development of more sustainable and healthy functionalized (UV protective) textile products. A group of homogeneous and blended cellulose textile fabrics were manufactured in a knitwear factory, evaluated in terms of the structure, and spectrophotometrically assessed to indicate their UV protection ability. The knitted fabrics merited sun protection ratings of "good" for pure hemp, through "very good" for viscose containing fabrics to "excellent" UV protection category for cotton based fabrics. Relatively high values of the Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of the cellulose. materials resulted from the interaction of fibre type, yarn geometry, fabric properties and common processing techniques. The increased UVR transparency of the pure hemp fabric, which resulted from hemp elasticity limitations, overcame by blending with other softer and more elastic cellulose fibres (cotton, viscose). The engineering approach proposed in this study was confirmed as an effective way to create more sustainable (more sustainable resource, pollution prevention, energy and cost savings) textile products with high level of UV protection at the knitting production stage avoiding the use of any additional mechanical and chemical treatments. These results revealed that the future application of hemp fibres in textile products with high added-value are promising. A co-ordinated effort of different subjects of the agro-and textile-industry production chain need to continue so as to overcome the limitations associated with hemp production and fibres properties.

A co-ordinated effort of different subjects of the agro-and textile-industry production chain need to continue so as to overcome the limitations associated with hemp production and fibres properties.",

AB - The aim of this research was to investigate the possibilities of producing comfort hemp containing textile fabrics by assembling a pure hemp yarn with other-fibre containing yarn. The plain knitted fabrics were produced from two-assembled hemp and three variants of cotton yarns which differed in twist level, all having the same linear density. The transport properties (air permeability, water vapour permeability and thermal resistance) of the hemp-based knitted fabrics were quantitatively analysed. The results obtained demonstrated that the introduction of cotton into hemp-based textiles reduces air and water vapour permeability with the downward trend in thermal resistance. The extent to which the transport properties varied among the hemp/cotton knitted fabrics was dependent on the twist intensity of the cotton yarns. Therefore, the yarn assembling technique is an effective way not only to combine different fibre properties but to take advantage of intrinsic properties of component yarns.

AB - Thermal properties of directionally oriented fibrous materials have been investigated in this research with the purpose of considering the influence of fibre arrangement at mesoscopic level. The range of various distributions of fibres in the fibrous materials was obtained by applying different twist intensity during spinning of cotton fibres. From various twisted cotton yarns the knitted fabrics were produced under controlled conditions, so as to obtain as similar as possible constructions. This made possible to obtain the heterogeneity of the porous fibrous structures coming from the mesoscopic level. Thermal conductivity and heat transfer coefficient of the materials were investigated. The results obtained indicate the arrangement of fibres (or their compactness, orientation and migration), which, in turn, was determined by twist intensity (mesoscopic scale), as the key factor influencing thermal properties. Yarn compactness and fibre migration, determined by lateral forces imposed by the twist inserted in yarn, affected variations in structural parameters of the knitted fabrics, and thus influenced their thermal properties. Fibre orientation manifested itself in surface geometry of the yarn was also proved to have a considerable influence on heat transfer properties.

AB - Textile materials like woven, knitted and nonwoven fabrics are good insulators with very high
electrical resistance. It is known that dielectric properties (effective dielectric permeability, electrical
conductivity, and dielectric loss tangent) and electrical resistivity (volume resistivity and surface
resistivity) of fabric are depending on several factors such as fiber type, fabric structure, moisture
content of the material, air humidity, temperature, etc. The purpose of this investigation is to study the
influence of the different content of viscose and polypropylene as well as the type of web bonding on
the dielectric loss tangent and volume electrical resistivity. Also, the dielectric loss tangent was
analyzed over a range of frequencies from 30 Hz to 140 kHz. Three investigated nonwoven fabrics
were mechanically and thermally bonded, and one of the samples was additionally chemically
bonded. The investigations were realized at 40 % relative air humidity.
Conducted analyses show that at frequencies below 100 Hz all investigated samples have
higher, while at higher frequencies, the investigated samples show lower values of loss tangent.
Namely, gradually decrease of the loss tangent value with the increase in the frequency from 30 Hz to
140 kHz was registered. The highest loss tangent value shows the sample with the highest viscose
fiber content and thus the highest number of polar hydroxyl groups. The smallest loss tangent value
was registered for a sample which was additionally chemically bonded.
Results obtained for the volume electrical resistivity was in accordance with the loss tangent
values. The lowest resistivity value was recorded for sample with the highest viscose fiber content
both in the machine direction as well as in the cross direction (5.27 GΩ∙cm and 5.03 GΩ∙cm,
respectively), while the highest resistivity value was registered for additionally chemically bonded
sample also in both investigated direction (11.84 GΩ∙cm and 12.51 GΩ∙cm, respectively). Some little
differences in volume electrical resistivity in the machine and in cross direction are probably due to
the fiber orientation in the samples and the number of contacts established between the fibers, because
better contact between fibers causes an easier flow of charge.

AB - In order to obtain jute fabrics with high AC specific electrical conductivity, the raw jute
woven fabric was chemically modified. Namely, alkali modification with 17.5% NaOH at
room temperature for 5 and 30 min was performed for progressive removal of
hemicelluloses, while oxidative modification with 0.7% NaClO2 at boiling temperature for
15 and 60 min was used for progressive removal of lignin. The chemical composition of the
chemically modified jute fabrics was determined by successive removal of non-cellulosic
components, after that, the α-cellulose remains as a solid residue. The moisture sorption was
determined according to thermo-gravimetric method. As very important indirect indicator of
the tendency of the fibrous materials to generate static charge, AC specific electrical
conductivity was measured in the frequency region between 30 Hz and 140 kHz at 30%
relative air humidity.
After the alkali modifications, the content of hemicelluloses decreased from 21.76% for
unmodified to 12.34% for alkali modified jute fabric, while after the oxidative modifications,
the content of lignin decreased from 13.48% for unmodified to 4.98% for oxidative modified
jute fabric. The moisture sorption of the alkali modified jute fabrics is about 21.6-26.6%
higher compared to the unmodified jute woven fabric. Oxidative modification of jute fabrics
slightly increased their moisture sorption (3.2-12.5%). Since, the fabric is heterogeneous
three-phase system, it was suggested to refer it as the capacitance of “fiber-moisture-air”
system. In that context, the AC specific electrical conductivity is very sensitive to fabrics
chemical composition and moisture sorption. The lowest AC specific electrical conductivity
was noticed for the untreated jute fabric, which can be related to its highest content of
hemicelluloses and lignin and the lowest moisture sorption. Chemically modified jute fabrics
have higher values of AC specific electrical conductivity compared to unmodified jute fabric.
For example, 36.6% lower content of hemicelluloses (modification with 17.5% NaOH for 5
min) in comparison with unmodified fabric resulted in increased value of AC specific
electrical conductivity from 0.095 µSm
-1
to 0.79 µSm
-1
(at around 140 KHz). Jute fabric with
37.7% lower content of lignin has lower value of AC specific electrical conductivity (0.7
µSm
-1
). The higher AC specific electrical conductivity of alkali modified jute woven fabrics
can be explained by the presence of water in form of moisture, leading to increase the
number of the polar groups, which facilitate the flow of current through the amorphous
regions, as well as the crystallite’s surface regions.
The obtained jute fabrics with higher AC specific electrical conductivity can be successfully
used for protective clothes or textile of specific behavior in environments sensitive to electrical discharges, home textiles (carpet), filters (static charge causes impairment of
filtering properties as well as the fire risk that can be caused by the spark appearance), etc.

abstract = "In order to obtain jute fabrics with high AC specific electrical conductivity, the raw jute
woven fabric was chemically modified.
The obtained jute fabrics with higher AC specific electrical conductivity can be successfully
used for protective clothes or textile of specific behavior in environments sensitive to electrical discharges, home textiles (carpet), filters (static charge causes impairment of
filtering properties as well as the fire risk that can be caused by the spark appearance), etc.",

AB - In this investigation, jute woven fabric has been alkali treated with NaOH solution (1%, 5%, 10% and 17.5%) at room temperature for different periods of time (5 and 30 min). The influence of different treatment conditions on structural properties (yarn linear density, fabric density, fabric thickness and fabric weight) and relative dielectric permeability were studied. Alkali treatment with lower NaOH concentrations (1% and 5%) decreased, but higher NaOH concentrations (10% and 17.5%) increased the yarn linear density. With increasing the concentration of NaOH, fabric density, fabric thickness and fabric weight increased. The duration of the treatment has no significant effect on these properties. More substantial changes in the effective relative dielectric permeability occurs when jute fabrics was treated with 17.5% NaOH. The duration of alkali treatment has more influence on effective relative dielectric permeability than concentration of NaOH, i.e. with increasing the duration of the treatment, effective relative dielectric permeability of investigated woven fabrics increased.
Povećanje koncentracija NaOH dovodi do povećanja gustine, debljine i površinske mase tkanine.

AB - In this work, sorption and dielectric properties of viscose/polypropylene multipurpose nonwoven fabrics were examined. The analysis of sorption behavior showed that the changes of the water absorptive capacity, the height of capillary rise and water retention value are in a function of viscose fiber content, total porosity, the pore size and used web bonding process. It is observed that dielectric properties at frequencies from 30 Hz to 140 kHz, for samples exposed to different relative air humidity and wet samples, are dependent on viscose fiber content, web bonding process, frequency of electric field and bulk free water content. The effective dielectric permeability of wet samples rapidly decreases with an increase in frequency up to 3 kHz while spectra of the AC specific electrical conductivity showed a plateau above 13 kHz. It is also observed that the dielectric properties of wet samples increase by several orders of magnitude compared to dry samples.

AB - In this work, the compression behaviour of clothing woven fabrics, before and after abrasion on the Martindale's device, has been examined. Plain and 3/1 twill weave fabrics from cotton and cotton/polyester fiber blends served as experimental material. Compression behaviour of the investigated fabrics was analyzed taking the compressibility, thickness loss, and compressive resilience into consideration. Obtained results showed that the changes of compression properties are in a function of the structural parameters of tested fabrics, as well as damages caused by abrasion. Besides, the results of compressibility, thickness loss, and compressive resilience enabled establishing the quality of examined fabrics based on values of complex criterion. Calculated value of complex criterion pointed to the conclusion that abrasion causes the reduction of quality of tested fabrics in a small extent. Twill weave fabric made of cotton/polyester fiber blends is characterized by the best quality while cotton plain weave fabric has the worst quality, before as well as after abrasion.

Twill weave fabric made of cotton/polyester fiber blends is characterized by the best quality while cotton plain weave fabric has the worst quality, before as well as after abrasion.",

AB - It is generally accepted that synthetic fibres provide high UV protection capability of textile products, while cellulose fibres have low UV absorption capacity. However, textile materials made of synthetic fibres are not considered to be comfortable for wear in warm weather, whereas cellulose-based textile materials are considered to be much more comfortable to wear, especially in the summer months. For this research, the idea was to produce specially blended knitted fabrics from staple/filament hybrid yarns in order to provide clothing materials with effective UV protection properties, keeping satisfactory comfort properties as well. To obtain hybrid yarns, folding technique was used. The Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF), as a quantitative measure of the effectiveness of the material to protect human skin against UV radiation, was determined for the rib knitted fabrics by in vitro test method according to the European standard. The physical properties of the knitted fabrics related to their UV protection properties: bulk density, porosity and air permeability were also determined. The hybrid yarns, from which the rib knitted fabrics were produced, having always hemp yarn as a staple component, caused the differences in UV protection capability of the rib knitted fabrics through the influence of a filament spun component. The hybrid yarn aggregation within knitted fabrics also influenced their UPF values. Even though the pure hemp knitted fabric was marked as "UPF gt 50" (according to European standard) due to natural pigments and lignin in hemp fibres which act as UV absorbers, most of the hemp/filament hybrid yarn knitted fabrics exhibited even higher UPF. Therefore, the engineering approach proposed in this research was confirmed as an effective way to design clothing materials with optimal UV protection capability and other wear comfort parameters.

AB - The interaction of the tryptophan functionalized Ag nanoparticles and live Candida albicans cells was studied by synchrotron excitation deep-ultraviolet (DUV) fluorescence imaging at the DISCO beamline of Synchrotron SOLEIL. DUV imaging showed that incubation of the fungus with functionalized nanoparticles results in significant increase in the fluorescence signal. The analysis of the images revealed that the interaction of the nanoparticles with (pseudo)hyphae polymorphs of the diploid fungus was less pronounced than in the case of yeast cells or budding spores. The changes in the intensity of the fluorescence signals of the cells after incubation were followed in [327-353 nm] and [370-410 nm] spectral ranges that correspond to the fluorescence of tryptophan in non-polar and polar environment, respectively. As a consequence of the environmental sensitivity of the silver-tryptophan fluorescent nanoprobe, we were able to determine the possible accumulation sites of the nanoparticles. The analysis of the intensity decay kinetics showed that the photobleaching effects were more pronounced in the case of the functionalized nanoparticle treated cells. The results of time-integrated emission in the mentioned spectral ranges suggested that the nanoparticles penetrate the cells, but that the majority of the nanoparticles attach to the cells' surfaces.

AB - Fluorescent nanostructures were prepared by functionalization of gold nanoparticles with riboflavin molecules and used as probes for synchrotron radiation deep ultraviolet (SR-DUV) fluorescence imaging of gluteraldehyde-fixed Candida albicans cells. The nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and optical spectroscopy techniques. The TEM analysis showed that the nanostructures were 6 nm in diameter, while the results of the fluorescence spectroscopies confirmed the photoluminescence of the nanoparticles. The SR-DUV imaging showed that it was possible to distinguish the fluorescence of the nanoparticles from the autofluorescence of the cells, as well as that the local maxima of the signal pertaining to the fluorescence of goldriboflavin nanostructures were mostly positioned on the surfaces of the C. albicans cells of spherical morphology.

AB - Quality of various clothing woven fabrics with respect to their comfort properties, such as electro-physical properties, air permeability, and compression properties has been studied. Fabrics are produced from cotton and cotton/polyester fibre blends in plain, twill, satin and basket weave. Results show that cotton fabrics have lower values of the volume resistivity, air permeability and compressive resilience but higher values of effective relative dielectric permeability and compressibility as compared to fabrics that have been produced from cotton/PES fibre blends. Regression analysis shows a strong linear correlative relationship between the air permeability and the porosity of the woven fabrics with very high coefficient of linear correlation (0.9807). It is also observed that comfort properties are determined by the structure of woven fabrics (raw material composition, type of weave) as well as by the fabrics surface condition. Findings of the studies have been used for estimating the quality of woven fabrics in terms of their comfort properties by the application of ranking method. It is concluded that the group of cotton fabrics exhibits better quality of comfort as compared to the group of cotton/PES blend fabrics.
