AB  - The anticholinergic drug, solifenacin, is frequently used for the treatment of the urological tract for urinary incontinence, and urinary frequency. The development of reliable and effective solifenacin electrochemical sensors is of great importance for the pharmaceutical industry and clinical practice. In this work, the electrochemical behavior of solifenacin succinate (SOL) was studied using three different working electrodes: gold (Au), glassy carbon (GCE) and boron-doped diamond electrode (BDDE). The cyclic voltammetric (CV) measurements performed in 0.05 M NaHCO3 indicated that the SOL oxidation process is irreversible and diffusion-controlled at all investigated working electrodes. Afterwards, the testing of SOL electrochemical stability and the possibility of its electrochemical degradation was performed at the Au electrode by the cycling of the potential during 3 h and continuously to 6 h. It was shown that the SOL was electrochemically transformed into another electroactive species and its degradation was excluded. For electroanalytical application, the anodically pretreated BDDE (+2.0 V; 30 s) was selected. Various experimental parameters were optimized, including the pH of the aqueous Britton-Robinson (B-R) buffer as a supporting electrolyte (from pH 2.0 to 11.98) and the most intensive peak of the target analyte was at pH 11.0, so this pH value was chosen as the optimum for further measurements. Based on the correlation of the SOL peak intensity and different concentrations, the developed differential pulse voltammetric (DPV) method was characterized by a linear concentration range from 0.041 to 2.50 µM, with a correlation coefficient of 0.999, and a relative standard deviation of 0.3 %. Taking into account the sensitivity of the developed DPV method towards the electrochemical oxidation of SOL, a very low detection limit of 0.012 µM in the model system was achieved. The BDDE showed adequate selectivity for SOL in the presence of the investigated interferents. The obtained results indicate that the BDDE with an optimized DPV method could be applied for the trace-level electroanalytical determination of SOL in human urine sample with excellent recovery and reproducibility.

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes as lipase carriers for organic synthesis: current trends and recent update

AB  - Lipase-catalyzed organic reactions have been widely practiced in the past three decades. Especially interesting are insoluble/immobilized forms due to providing a possibility of facile use and recyclability, thus reducing process costs, and making the procedure more environmentally friendly. Carbon-based supports have been extensively exploited for this purpose, because of neutral and biodegradable nature and thermal and chemical stability. Their high specific surface area, characteristic surface morphology and lower mass transfer resistances play a vital role in the performance of the attached enzyme. This review paper presents an overview of the main aspects of lipase immobilized on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). Moreover, different immobilization strategies to achieve a biocatalyst with improved performances are discussed. Furthermore, as lipases are considered to have high commercial worth for synthesis of valuable organic molecules, the second part of the paper is dedicated to the overview of the most important industrial sectors in which these nanobiocatalysts have been used. In specific, applications in biodiesel production, flavour ester synthesis and racemization are summarized.
AB  - Lipaze su poslednjih decenija široko rasprostanjeni katalizatoriu raznovrsnim organskim reakcijama. Posebno su interesantne u imobilisanom/nerastvornom obliku jer je na ovaj način olakšana njihova upotreba uz mogućnost recikliranja i ponovne upotrebe čime se smanjuju troškovi samog procesa i postupak je ekološki prihvatljiviji. Kao nosači za vezivanje nanomaterijali na bazi ugljenika, posebno ugljenične nanocevi, su našli primenu zbog svojih izuzetnih fizičkih, mehaničkih i hemijskih svojstava. Njihova velika specifična površina, karakteristična površinska morfologija i smanjen otpor prenosu mase igraju vitalnu ulogu u performansama vezanog enzima. Ovaj pregledni rad predstavlja prikaz glavnih aspekata lipaze imobilisane na višeslojne ugljenične nanocevi i različitih strategija imobilizacije za dobijanje biokatalizatora sa poboljšanim svojstvima. Takođe, kako su lipaze enzimi od velikog komercijalnog značaja za organsku sintezu i primenu u biotehnologiji, drugi deo rada posvećen je pregledu najvažnijih industrijskih sektora u kojima su ovi nanobiokatalizatori našli primenu. AB  - Liposome-encapsulated folic acid is incorporated into the films made from sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) (2 mas%) and a mixture of CMC and solagum (9:1 w/w) using the film-forming cast solution method. Histidine is used to increase solubility for folic acid in liposomes (1–5 mg mL−1), and propylene glycol is used as a film plasticizer (2.6 mas%). The obtained films (50–60 µm tick) containing 3.12–20.19 mg of folic acid per gram of film are envisaged to be used as patches for transdermal delivery of folic acid. Therefore, some physical, mechanical, release and structural attributes of the films are scrutinized. Folic acid gives yellow color to the films and contributes to stronger chemical bonds which result in improved strength of the film. Liposomes prolong the release of folic acid from films to 24 h without adverse effects on mechanical properties of the films, but degrade homogeneity of the films, which can be ascribed to its agglomeration within the film matrix as revealed by atomic force microscopy. According to the release at pH 5.5, the film formulation based on a blend of CMC and solagum containing 3 mg mL−1 liposome-encapsulated folic acid is recommended. Practical Application: Folic acid is effective in reducing oxidative stress levels in the skin and neutralizing the harmful free radicals and is also essential for various metabolic reactions in the body. However, the limited solubility of folic acid linked with its poor absorption in an organism, low storage stability, short half-life upon oral consumption, specific food preferences of some people, extensive liver metabolism, and pregnancy-induced vomiting point to a large potential in transdermal usage of folic acid. This has motivated us to design new multicomponent polymer-lipid systems as an alternative solution to overcome some of these drawbacks. The results obtained for these multicomponent films pointed to their potential for prolonged release of folic acid to 24 h, which can also be useful for scientists interested in encapsulating similar poorly soluble compounds in CMC patches. The finding can be also valuable information for pharmaceutical manufacturers and scientists worldwide.

AB  - Azo boje ce poslednjih decenija primenjuju u različitim oblastima zbog izuzetnih svojstava. Njihova primena je u velikoj meri povezana sa fenomenom azo- hidrazon tautomerije. Naime, određivanje strukturnog oblika azo boja je značajno kako sa teorijskog stanovišta, tako i iz tehničke perspektive jer azo i hidrazon tautomeri poseduju različita fizička i hemijska svojstva.
U ovom radu, sintetisana je azo boja (5-(2-hlorfenilazo)-3-cijano-1-etil-6- hidrokci-4-metil-2-piridon) i okarakterisana elementalnom analizom, NMR i ATR-FTIR spektroskopijom i rendgenskom strukturnom analizom (slika). Solvatohromna svojstva boje ispitana su UV-Vis spektroskopijom u različitim rastvaračima kako bi se utvrdio dominantan strukturni oblik boje. Kristalna struktura je pokazala da boja kristališe u obliku hidrzon tautomera. Stabilizacija kristalnog pakovanja ostvarena je posredstvom različitih nekovalentnih interakcija kao što cu C–H···O/N, π-π, slobodan elektronski par-π i Cl···O.

AB  - Tremendous progress in the application of azo dyes in various fields has been achieved over the past few decades due to their intriguing properties. Their application is closely related to the phenomenon of azo-hydrazone tautomerism. Determination of the structural isomer of the azo dyes is not only important from the theoretical standpoint but also from the technical perspective since azo and hydrazone tautomers have distinctive physical and chemical properties.
In this work, azo pyridone dye (5-(2-chlorophenylazo)-3-cyano-1-ethyl-6-hydroxy-4- methyl-2-pyridone) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, NMR and ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray analysis (Figure). Solvatochromic properties of the dye have been investigated using UV-Vis spectroscopy in solvents of
different polarity in order to determine the dominant form in solvents.
The crystal structure of the dye shows that the dye crystallizes in the hydrazone form. The stabilization of the crystal packing is achieved by weak non- covalent interactions: C–H···O/N, π-π, lone pair-π and Cl O.

AB  - Reakcija azo kuplovanja omogućava laku sintezu niza molekula sa različitim svojstvima, što čini azo boje najrasprostranjenijim kolorantima. Pored primene azo boja u tekstilnoj industriji, primenjuju se i kod proizvoda naprednih tehnologija. Takođe, poznata su i po svojoj izvanrednoj biološkoj aktivnosti. Prisustvo jezgra piridina značajno poboljšava obojenje i postojanost boja. Supramolekulskim pristupom objašnjavaju se intra- i inter-molekulske interakcije, što omogućava bolje razumevanje interakcija između boja i tekstilnog vlakna [1].
U ovom radu dobijen je 5'-(2-(2,6-dihlorfenil)hidrazon)-4'-metil-2',6'-diokso- 1',2',5',6'-tetrahidro-[1,3'-bipiridin]-1-ium-hlorid (slika). Struktura jedinjenja potvrđena je NMR, ATR-FTIR, UV-Vis spektroskopijama i rendgenskom strukturnom analizom. Supramolekulsko umrežavanje postignuto je vodoničnim vezama, π-interakcijama, interakcijama atoma hlora vezanih za fenilno jezgro kao i interakcijama Cl–-jona koji se nalazi u kristalnoj rešetki. Ovim interakcijama objašnjena je i sposobnost vezivanja boje za tekstilno vlakno. Kristalografski podaci: C34H26Cl6N8O4,
Mr = 823,33, P–1, a = 7,3784(15), b = 10,394(2),
c = 13,254(3) Å, α = 103,29(3), β = 105,71(3), γ = 106,11(3) °,  V = 887,5(4) Å3,  Z = 1, F(000) = 420,	ρx = 1,541 g cm–3,
µ(MoKα) = 0,537 mm–1. Utačnjavanje sa F2 (236 parametara) dalo je R1 = 0,0561 i S = 1,063 za 3247 primećenih refleksija sa I ≥ 2σ(I).
AB  - The reaction of azo coupling easily provides access to a wide range of different molecules with numerous material properties, therefore making azo dyes most widely used colorants. Their use is not limited only on textile dyeing as it expands on usage in advanced technology products. On the other hand, these compounds are known for their remarkable biologial activities. Inclusion of a pyridine ring into the molecular architecture leads to a better color properties. Supramolecular organization of azo dyes provides details on the molecular conformation, including intra- and inter-molecular interactions in the solid state. This information assists towards understanding of molecular properties as well as dye–fibre interactions [1].
In this work azo coupling reaction was employed to obtain 5'-(2-(2,6- dichlorophenyl)hydrazono)-4'-methyl-2',6'-dioxo-1',2',5',6'-tetrahydro-[1,3'-bipyridin]-1- ium chloride (Figure). The molecular structure was confirmed by 1H, 13C NMR, ATR- FTIR,	UV-Vis	spectroscopies	and	by single-crystal X-Ray diffraction. Various hydrogen bonds, π-stacking interactions and interactions involving chlorine substituents, as well as the chloride ion are responsible for supramolecular organization. Furthermore these interactions were used to explain dye- fiber afinities. Crystal data: C34H26Cl6N8O4, Mr = 823.33,
P–1,	a = 7.3784(15),	b = 10.394(2),

AB  - Two azo dye ligands, bearing different substituents (chlorine atom or methoxy group) in the para-position of the phenyl ring, were employed for the synthesis of two Cu(II) chelates. Full structural affirmation of complexes was assessed. X-ray diffraction measurements revealed that the coordination geometry for Cu atoms in both complexes is square-pyramidal with a ligand:metal ratio of 2:1 where dyes behave as monobasic bidentate ligands. Thermogravimetric analyses of the complexes and their starting dyes were performed to study their thermal stabilities and decomposition behavior confirming the thermal stability of both dyes and complexes. Antioxidative activity of the complexes has been assigned and compared with their parent ligands revealing that the presence of the electron–donor, methoxy group, in the phenyl ring, in both dye and complex, is responsible for the activity (IC50 values of 1.54 for the dye and 1.30 mM for the complex). It should be stated that the complexation of the methoxy-substituted dye leads to enhanced antioxidative activity concurrent to a standard antioxidant molecule of ascorbic acid, making this molecule a promising antioxidant agent. Docking study with vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 and Aurora kinase A proteins indicate that complexes exhibit higher binding affinities to proteins than the starting ligand dyes. The most promising structure exhibiting the best docking potential toward both proteins is the complex-bearing methoxy group. The presented results represent a promising start for further investigations of these compounds as potential therapeutic candidates for the treatment of various types of cancer.

AB  - Predmetnim pronalaskom postignuta je inkapsulacija slabo vodorastvorne aktivne supstance heterocikličnog azo jedinjenja sa antikancerogenim svojstvima u hidrofilni hidrogel na bazi poli(metakrilne kiseline) modifikovanog amfifilnim kazeinom, ciljana dostava inkapsuliranog azo derivata i njegovo kontrolisano i produženo otpuštanje (i do 72h) bez naglog inicijalnog oslobadanja iz hidrofilnog hidrogela. Takođe, predmetnim pronalaskom su dobijeni nosači koji bi imali potencijalnu primenu u tretmanu hronične mijeloidne leukemije (HML), čijom bi se primenom smanjio broj potrebnih terapeutskih doza i redukovali neželjeni efekti (kao što je povraćanje i iritacija gastrointestinalnog trakta) koji se najčešće javljaju kod primene lekova za terapiju HML.

AB  - Agro-industrial waste has gained special attention as an abundatly available natural carbon source, which can be used for value-added products such as generating power, biofuel, biogas and biofertilizers production. Further application of agro-industrial waste may be as a substrate for solid state fermentation for production of antibiotics, enzymes, and phytochemicals. Isolation of enzymes from waste material as crude extracts contributes to the concept of sustainability and lowers their cost significantly. The enzyme of interest in this study was peroxidase isolated from soybean hull. Furthermore, the crude peroxidase from soybean hull was crosslinked by oxidized pectin onto the inner walls of PTFE microtubular reactor. The influence of the crosslinker concentration on the enzyme activity and crosslinking efficiency was evaluated, together with the effect of the reagents flow rate on the enzyme activity and crosslinking efficiency. Two different microtubular diameters were examined for the crude peroxidase crosslinking: 0.5 and 0.8 mm. After the immobilization, the possibility of anthraquinone dye removal by crosslinked peroxidase in the microtubular reactor was examined. The reusability of the immobilized enzyme was also evaluated in this study.
AB  - Poljoprivredni otpad predstavlja lako dostupan prirodni izvor ugljenika, koji se može koristiti za dobijanje proizvoda sa dodatom vrednošću. Poljoprivredni otpad se može koristiti kao sirovina za proizvodnju električne energije, biogorivo, biogas i proizvodnju biođubriva. Dalja primena poljoprivrednog otpada može biti kao supstrat za fermentaciju u čvrstom stanju (eng. solid state fermentation), za proizvodnju antibiotika, enzima i fitohemikalija. Izolovanje enzima iz otpadnog materijala kao sirovi ekstrakt doprinosi konceptu održivosti i značajno smanjuje cenu enzima. Enzim od interesa u ovom radu je peroksidaza izolovana iz sojinih ljuspica. Sirova peroksidaza iz sojinih ljuspica umrežena je oksidovanim pektinom na unutrašnje zidove PTFE cevnog mikroreaktor, i ispitivan je uticaj koncentracije umreživača na aktivnost enzima i efikasnost umrežavanja, kao i uticaj protoka reagensa na aktivnost enzima i efikasnost umrežavanja. Nakon toga, vršeno je ispitivanje uticaja prečnika cevnog mikroreaktora na efikasnost umrežavanja i aktivnost peroksidaze: 0,5 i 0,8 mm. Nakon imobilizacije ispitana je mogućnost uklanjanja antrahinonske boje umreženom peroksidazom u cevnom mikroreaktoru. U ovom radu je takođe je ispitivana mogućnost ponovne upotrebe imobilisanog enzima.

AB  - Wastewater from textile industry contains considerable amount of dissolved dye that can trigger environmental issues if is not treated properly. Numerous methods have been developed to degrade recalcitrant pollutants safely and utterly. Among them, enzymatic treatment of wastewater is gaining attention due to the enzyme’s specificity, easier manipulation, and generation of less toxic by-products. Still, the cost of enzymatic systems is the main limitation keeping the biocatalysts at lab-scale. Alternative solution for reducing the cost of enzymatic reaction systems is the use of microfluidic systems, which contribute to better mixing, process intensification and cleaner production. In this study, implementation of horseradish peroxidase for removal of the textile dye Acid Violet 109 is performed in a microfluidic reactor. The microreactor consists of three plunger pump units, two mixers and PTFE tube. The process parameters: residence time, dye, hydrogen peroxide, enzyme activity, the reactors’ diameter and length were optimized. Under the optimal process conditions: 30 mg/L dye concentration, 0.8 U/mL horseradish peroxidase activity, 0.1 mM hydrogen peroxide, 0.25 mm reactor's diameter, 97,3 % removal was achieved at residence time of 6 min. The results from this study show that enzymatic microfluidic reactors are a convenient technology for dye removal.

AB  - The presented research focused on the metallization of polyester, cotton, and polyamide 6.6 fabrics using the silver conductive complex to allow electric conductivity through the fabric's surface and enhance the fabric's mechanical properties. The method used for the metallization of studied fabrics does not require the use of expensive toxic chemicals or electricity, making the process more economically acceptable. The signal attenuation was measured in frequency ranges of 1–4 and 5–12 GHz. After five cycles of metallization, the polyester fabric has higher EMI effectiveness, in a lower range was 45.44 and 57.25 dB. X-ray powder diffractometry (XRD) and infrared spectroscopy with Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry (FT-IR) characterize the modified tissues. Scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersion spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) was used to determine layers' morphology and elemental composition. Also, the water and air permeability of modified textiles was determined.

AB  - Pet novih jedinjenja na bazi stilbazolijum-soli, D-π-A strukture, sintetizovano je i detaljno
okarakterisano. Solvatohromizam sintetizovanih jedinjenja ispitan je korišćenjem četiri
rastvarača različite prirode pomoću UV-Vis spektroskopije. Takođe, ispitan je uticaj
različitih elektron-donorskih grupa na solvatohromna svojstva molekula. Zahvaljujući
prirodi kvaternarnog atoma azota, piridinijumov prsten u ovim jedinjenjima ispoljava jak
elektron-akceptorski karakter, promovišući intramolekulski transfer naelektrisanja.
Zahvaljujući ovom svojstvu, jedinjenja na bazi stilbazolijum-soli su primenu našla u
brojnim granama industrije i nauke.
AB  - Five novel dyes derived from stilbazolium salts, bearing D-π-A structure, were synthesized and completely characterized. The solvatochromism of the synthesized dyes was investigated using four different solvents by means of UV-Vis spectroscopy. Also, the influence of different electron-donor groups on the solvatochromic properties of dyes was examined. Due to the nature of the quaternary nitrogen atom, the pyridinium ring in these compounds exhibits a strong electron-accepting character, promoting intramolecular charge transfer. This property has enabled compounds derived from stilbazolium salts to find applications in numerous branches of industry and science.

AB  - Aryl azo pyridone dyes belong to a very important class of organic compounds. World annual
production of synthetic dyes is over 60 % based on the azo derivatives. They are mostly used as
coloring agents for textiles, paper, leather, rubber, polymer, and many other materials. With the
development of high technology, these structures also found their application as components of
lasers and nonlinear optical systems, LCD (liquid crystal display) screens, and thermal printers.
Lately, increasing attention has been directed to the biological activity of azo compounds. It has
been proven that they have anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, and antituberculosis activity, while certain derivatives are used for therapeutic purposes. Aryl azo dyes
are widely used due to their excellent physicochemical properties (primarily high value of the
molar extinction coefficient and great resistance to light and wet processing) and the fact that
can be obtained in a simple method of diazotization and coupling. In this paper, three new dyes
of 6-hydroxy-5-(hydroxy substituted phenylazo)-4-methyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-
carbonitriles were synthesized by a diazo coupling reaction starting from aminophenols (2-, 3-
and 4-substituted) and 6-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carbonitrile as coupling
components. The obtained dyes were characterized by melting point, IR, NMR, and UV-Vis
spectroscopy. Given the fact that the structure of the molecule and interactions obtained with the
surrounding medium can affect its activity, the possibility of azo hydrazo tautomerism has been
studied, as the influence of the position of the substituent present (orto-, meta- and para
position). In addition, the effect of the solvent used was determined by applying a solvatochromic
model using the LSER method (linear solvation energy relationship). Obtaining information
about the inter- and intramolecular relationships that newly synthesized compounds can achieve
may be of great importance for all further investigations and their potential application as
biologically active compounds.

AB  - Predmetni pronalazak se odnosi na postupak biodegradacije antrahinonske boje Acid Violet 109 peroksidazom, izolovanom iz poljoprivrednog otpada u kontinualnom mikroreaktorskom sistemu. Postupak se sastoji od ekstrakcije enzima i biodegradacije boje u mikroreaktoru. Koncentracija boje treba da bude do 450 mg/L, enzimski ekstrakt aktivnosti 1 U/mL i vodonik-peroksid koncentracije do 1 mM, da bi se postigao najveći stepen biodegradacije. Na ovaj način dobija se visoko efikasan postupak biodegradacije antrahinonskih boja (~97 %) koji je održiv, ekološki i ekonomski opravdan.
AB  - The present invention relates to a method for anthraquinone dye Acid Violet 109 biodegradation using peroxidase, isolated from agro-industrial waste in continuous microreactor system. The method consists of enzyme extraction and dye biodegradation in microreactor. Dye concentration should be up to 450 mg/L, enzyme extract with the activity of 1 U/mL and hydrogen peroxide concentration up to 1 mM, in order to achieve the highest level of biodegradation. In this way highly efficient method for anthraquinone dyes biodegradation is obtained (~97 %) which is sustainable, ecologically and economically justified.

abstract = "Predmetni pronalazak se odnosi na postupak biodegradacije antrahinonske boje Acid Violet 109 peroksidazom, izolovanom iz poljoprivrednog otpada u kontinualnom mikroreaktorskom sistemu. Postupak se sastoji od ekstrakcije enzima i biodegradacije boje u mikroreaktoru. Koncentracija boje treba da bude do 450 mg/L, enzimski ekstrakt aktivnosti 1 U/mL i vodonik-peroksid koncentracije do 1 mM, da bi se postigao najveći stepen biodegradacije. Na ovaj način dobija se visoko efikasan postupak biodegradacije antrahinonskih boja (~97 %) koji je održiv, ekološki i ekonomski opravdan., The present invention relates to a method for anthraquinone dye Acid Violet 109 biodegradation using peroxidase, isolated from agro-industrial waste in continuous microreactor system. The method consists of enzyme extraction and dye biodegradation in microreactor. Dye concentration should be up to 450 mg/L, enzyme extract with the activity of 1 U/mL and hydrogen peroxide concentration up to 1 mM, in order to achieve the highest level of biodegradation. In this way highly efficient method for anthraquinone dyes biodegradation is obtained (~97 %) which is sustainable, ecologically and economically justified.",

AB  - Various strategies have been developed for the removal of synthetic dyes from the
wastewater of the textile industry due to their stability as well as their negative effect on the
environment. Enzymatic wastewater treatments as environmentally safe processes have many
benefits. An enzyme suitable for use in the treatment of wastewater from the textile industry
is horseradish peroxidase (HRP) because it can degrade different types of dyes. Immobilized
enzymes have many advantages over free enzymes in solution such as higher stability and the
opportunity to be removed easily from the reaction mixtures. Consequently, immobilized
enzymes can be used more than once. Many different materials are used as a carrier for
enzyme immobilization, so if residual material is used as a carrier, waste valorization will be
achieved. In this study immobilized commercial HRP was used for decolorization of
anthraquinone dye Acid green 40 (AG 40). Waste material – potato peels were used as a
carrier for the immobilization of HRP. Potato peels were oxidized with sodium periodate to
introduce aldehyde groups that can react with the primary amino groups of the enzyme to
form Schiff bases, resulting in covalently immobilized HRP. The success of the oxidation
was verified by the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH) test, and subsequently, the oxidized
potato peels were characterized by SEM and FTIR. After oxidation, the influence of the mass
of the immobilization carrier on enzyme activity and immobilization efficiency was
investigated. The optimal conditions of pH, hydrogen peroxide concentration, concentration
of AG 40, and enzyme activity were determined for decolorization of AG 40 with
immobilized HRP. Adsorption of AG 40 on the carrier was also determined. In addition, the
operational stability of the enzyme was determined. The results obtained show that oxidized
potato peels are a promising material that can be used as a carrier for the immobilization of
HRP.

AB  - Aryl azo dyes are widely used due to their excellent physicochemical properties (primarily high value of the molar extinction coefficient and great resistance to light and wet processing) and the fact that can be obtained in a simple method of diazotization and coupling. In this paper, three new dyes of 5-(hydroxy substituted phenylazo)-3-cyano-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-pyridone were synthesized by a diazo coupling reaction. The obtained dyes were characterized by melting point, IR, NMR, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Given the fact that the structure of the molecule and interactions obtained with the surrounding medium can affect its activity, the possibility of azo hydrazo tautomerism has been studied, as the influence of the position of the substituent present (orto-, meta- and para position). In addition, the effect of the solvent used was determined by applying a solvatochromic model using the LSER method (linear solvation energy relationship). Obtaining information about the inter- and intramolecular relationships that newly synthesized compounds can achieve may be of great importance for all further investigations and their potential application as biologically active compounds.
AB  - Aril azo boje imaju široku primenu zbog svojih odličnih fizičko-hemijskih svojstava (prvenstveno visoke vrednosti molarnog ekstinkcionog koeficijenta i velike otpornosti na svetlost i vlagu) i činjenice da se mogu dobiti jednostavnom metodom diazotizacije i kuplovanja. U ovom radu susintetisane tri boje 5-(hidroksi supstituisane fenilazo)-3-cijano-6-hidroksi-4-metil-2-piridona reakcijom diazo kuplovanja. Dobijene boje su okarakterisane tačkom topljenja, IR, NMR i UV-Vis spektroskopijom. S obzirom na to da struktura molekula i ostvarene interakcije sa okolnim medijumom mogu uticati na aktivnost ispitivanih jedinjenja, proučavan je solvatohromizam i moguććnost azo-hidrazon tautomerije, kao i uticaj položaja prisutnog supstituenta (orto-, meta- i para pozicija ) u strukturi ispitivanih jedinjenja. Pored toga, kvantitatifikovan je efekat korišććenih rastvarača primenom dva solvatohromna modela koristeći LSER metodu (linear solvation energy relationship). Dobijanje informacija o inter- i intra-molekulskim interakcijama koje sintetizovana jedinjenja mogu da ostvare su od velike važnosti za sva dalja istraživanja i njihovu potencijalnu primenu kao biološki aktivnih jedinjenja.

AB  - Five novel D-π-A structured pyridinium based compounds, bearing different electron-donating units were synthesized, minutely characterized, and their solvatochromic and electronic properties were investigated. Subsequently, these compounds were added to a liquid electrolyte in order to enhance the photovoltaic performance of the N719-sensitized solar cell. It was demonstrated that the utilization of all compounds improved the conversion efficiency, compared to the reference solar cell comprised of plain liquid electrolyte. The photovoltaic performance of the fabricated DSSC depended of the electron-donating moiety of the synthesized compound. The highest photovoltaic conversion efficiency of 4.11% was obtained for DSSC with the compound bearing the 4-(N,N-dimethylamino)phenyl group.

AB  - The anticholinergic drug, solifenacin (SOL), is frequently used for the treatments in urological
tract for urinary incontinence, and urinary frequency [1]. As an electroactive molecule, SOL can
be an appropriate target analyte for voltammetric measurements. Boron doped diamond
electrode (BDDE) was selected as a working electrode because of its unique electrochemical
properties and emphasis on anodic measurements [2]. Prior to the voltammetric measurements
of SOL, BDDE was electrochemically activated in the supporting electrolyte by anodic
pretreatment (+2.0 V; 30 s) to achieve an oxygen terminated surface [3]. The voltammetric
behavior of SOL was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry
(DPV) in a model system. Based on the CV measurements it is proved that the certain electrooxidation process is diffusion controlled. Various experimental parameters were optimized
including the pH of the aqueous Britton-Robinson (B-R) buffer as a supporting electrolyte (from
pH 2.0 to 11.98) in the potential range from -0.3 V to 1.6 V vs saturated calomel electrode.
Depending on the pH value of the B-R buffer one oxidation peak of SOL was obtained at maxima
of peak potential around 1.1 V. The most intensive peak of the target analyte was at pH 11.0 which
was chosen as an optimal pH value for further measurements. Based on the correlation of SOL
peak intensity and different concentrations, the developed DPV method was characterized by a
linear concentration range from 0.015 to 0.907 µg mL-1, coefficient correlation of 0.999, and
relative standard deviation of 0.33%. Taking into account the sensitivity of the developed DPV
method towards the electrochemical oxidation of SOL, a very low detection limit of 0.005 µg mL-1
in the model system is achieved. The BDDE showed adequate selectivity for SOL in the presence
of investigated interferents. The obtained results indicate that BDDE with an optimized DPV
method could be applied for the trace-level electroanalytical determination of SOL in real samples.

AB  - Wide commercial application of azo pyridone dyes rests on the cost-effectiveness of their preparation and almost innumerable possibilities for the synthesis by combining various diazo and coupling pyridone components that enable tuning of targeted properties. The great significance of these dyes in the last few decades is due to their outstanding properties, such as vivid colors and good color fastness properties. Azo pyridone dyes are also applicable in different coloration related processes such as inkjet printing and liquid crystal displays. On the other hand, they are recognized as valuable compounds in biological studies, as they possess antioxidant, antimicrobial and antiproliferative properties. In this work, three novel 6-hydroxy-4-methyl-1-pyridinium-2-pyridone based dyes bearing three bioactive heterocyclic rings in their structures are synthesized, wherein thiazole based anilines (2-aminothiazole, 2-aminobenzothiazole, 6-methoxy-2-aminobenzothiazole) are used as diazo components. The compounds are characterized by melting points, NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. The solvatochromic properties are investigated in solvents of different properties. Furthermore, the antioxidant capacities of the compounds are evaluated by ABTS (2,2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) assay, while antimicrobial activity is determined by broth microdilution method against five bacterial strains (S. aureus, E. faecalis, B. subtilis, E. coli and K. pneumoniae) and one fungal strain (C. albicans).
AB  - Široka komercijalna upotreba piridonskih azo boja zasniva se na njihovoj relativno jeftinoj i jednostavnoj pripremi, kao i činjenici da se veliki broj kuplujućih i diazo komponenti mogu međusobno kombinovati kako bi se dobile boje odgovarajućih svojstava. Veliki značaj ovih boja poslednjih nekoliko decenija, ogleda se u njihovim istaknutim svojstvima kao što su živopisna obojenja i dobra postojanost. Ove boje, takođe, nalaze primenu u ink-džet štampi i LCD ekranima. Sa druge strane, ove boje predstavljaju značajna jedinjenja u biološkim studijama, jer poseduju antioksidativnu, antimikrobnu i antiproliferativnu aktivnost. U ovom radu, sintetisane su tri boje koje u svojoj strukturi obuhvataju tri bioakativna heterociklična jezgra, pri čemu je kao kuplujuća komponenta korišćen 6-hidroksi-4-metil-1-piridinijum-2-piridon, a kao diazo komponente anilini na bazi tiazola (2-aminotiazol, 2-aminobenzotiazol i 6-metoksi-2-aminobenzotiazol). Jedinjenja su okarakterisana temperaturom topljenja, NMR i FTIR spektroskopijama. Solvatohromna svojstva su ispitana u rastvaračima različitih svojstava. AB  - Azo boje predstavljaju veoma značajnu grupu jedinjenja budući da više od 50% sintetičkih boja pripada upravo ovim strukturama. Zahvaljujući jednostavnoj i ekonomičnoj sintezi, kao i velikoj otpornosti prema svetlosti i pranju lako su pronašle primenu u raznim granama industrije. Pored uobičajene upotrebe u tekstilnoj, kozmetičkoj i prehrambenoj industriji, azo boje se koriste i za izradu solarnih ćelija, LCD ekrana, fotografskih, itd. Neka jedinjenja iz ove grupe su pokazala i dobru biološku aktivnost, a po najnovijim istraživanjima mogu se primeniti u lečenju tumora. U ovom radu je ispitan uticaj rastvarača na apsorpcione spektre odabranih arilazo piridonskih boja radi dobijanja informacija o solvatohromnim osobinama koje mogu imati veliki uticaj na potencijalnu biološku aktivnost. Spektri sedam derivata 5-(disupstituisanih fenilazo)-3-cijano-6-hidroksi-4-metil-2-piridona snimljeni su u deset rastvarača različitih svojstava u opsegu talasnih dužina 300-600 nm. Kvantitativna analiza interakcija između odabranih azo boja i okolnog medijuma je urađena primenom odgovarajućeg solvatohromnog modela metodom višestruke linerane korelacije solvatohromnih energija (LSER metoda).
AB  - Azo dyes represent a very important group of compounds since
more than 50% of synthetic dyes belong to these structures. Because of their
economic synthesis, as well as great light and washing resistance, they have
easily found applications in industry. In addition to the use in textile, cosmetic, and food industries, azo dyes are also used for making solar cells, LCD
screens, photographic systems, etc. Some derivatives have shown good biological activity, and they can be used in the treatment of tumors. In this paper, the
influence of solvents on the absorption spectra of selected aryl azo pyridone
dyes was investigated to obtain information on solvatochromic properties that
can have a great influence on potential biological activity. Spectra of seven
5-(disubstituted phenyl azo)-3-cyano-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-pyridones were
recorded in ten solvents of different properties in the wavelength range 300-
600 nm. Quantitative analysis of interactions between selected azo dyes and
the surrounding medium was performed using the corresponding solvatochromic model by the method of multiple linear correlations of solvatochromic
energies.
